Crazy high prices for jukebox musicals, which are basically Vegas Style cover and concerts.
Is Broadway just a Tourist Trap?

Yes OP. God, did you just come to Earth?

It’s all done slickly, but Bway is bullshit entertainment

I hate the shrill style of singing that has taken over Broadway.

I wonder how a DLer enjoyed 'The Music Man' after I warned him off of it. I hope I was wrong and he had a groovy evening.

All the Broadway theaters should be torn down and they should put up office towers and condo buildings. They did it to the great movie houses.

Nowadays Bway is focused on the tourist dollar. That’s why there’s an emphasis on jukebox musicals, movie-to-stage adaptations, and getting at least B-grade movie stars.
Tourists will pay whatever to go see Broadway so the producers are just using them.
Moulin Rouge, for example, was absolute shit wrapped up in a beautiful package. No depth, no point.

isn't Broadway, or pretty close to B'way, where Giuliani cleaned up the nudie shows?

Yeah you'd think Andrew Lloyd Weber would have been the nadir of Broadway productions but the shit they churn out now is 100x worse. But at least it employs people.

At first glance I thought it read "Tourist Trap comes to Broadway."
I definitely would have bought tickets for a Broadway musical based on the 1979 horror film.

Just like movies - lowest common denominator because everything is so overpriced. A vicious circle - they need to pay a “name” to draw a crowd willing to pay $150/ticket. They need name recognition - in actors and show name to draw the suckers willing to pay $150 for the NYC theater experience.

Pre COVID in 2019 I saw an excellent revival of Harold Pinter's Betrayal and in 2015 I saw the play The Humans which won 5 Tony's including Best Play but between them it was slim pickings and Hamilton was over-hyped, overrated and overpriced and within half an hour I was bored.

Please don’t give the money-grubbing producers any ideas!
