The CW Orders Pilot for Jensen Ackles’ SUPERNATURAL Prequel

Death in Supernatural was a fluid occurrence. In a series where angels, demons, and ghosts frequently appeared, no one was ever really gone. And that also applies to the series itself. Back in June 2021, Deadline reported a Supernatural prequel series called The Winchesters was in development with a script commitment at The CW. Fast-forward to February 2022 and The CW has formally ordered a pilot. Jensen Ackles and Danneel Ackles are aboard as executive producers (through their company Chaos Machine Productions) along with Robbie Thompson. Ackles will reprise his role of Dean Winchester… just in narrator form.

The Winchesters will focus on Dean and Sam’s parents, John and Mary. As Supernatural revealed, Mary Winchester (maiden name Mary Campbell) came from a family of hunters. Mary’s parents brought her into the lifestyle—a life from which Mary tried to escape to have a normal life with John. She retired from hunting, married John, and had Sam and Dean. Her apple pie life didn’t last; the demon Azazel killed her, sparking John’s entry into hunting and raising Sam and Dean in the life Mary never wanted.

Dean Winchester will narrate The Winchesters and tell the story of how John and Mary met and risked it all to save the world. Aww. Ackles told Deadline, “After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over. Because like we say in the show, ‘nothing ever really ends, does it?’ When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey.”

Given that Supernatural ran for 15 seasons on The CW, it’s no surprise that the network is game for more Winchester material. They tried out backdoor pilots for spinoffs at a couple of points, but the ideas didn’t work out. Here, though, they have tried and true material with the Winchesters. We’ve even seen young John and Mary Winchester (played by Matt Cohen and Amy Gumenick, respectively) in Supernatural. Whatever weirdness Sam and Dean dealt with in the drama, it always came back to family. This is a fitting subject for a prequel.

But if you’re wondering: where does Sam Winchester fit into this? Well, he apparently doesn’t. After news about the Supernatural prequel broke on Thursday evening, Jared Padalecki shared his shocked reaction on Twitter. He apparently didn’t know anything about the show and also apparently lost Jensen Ackles’ phone number?

Padalecki tweeted that he felt gutted. And hey, after working so closely with Ackles on the show for over 15 years, we get it. Let’s hope they make up, just like Sam and Dean always did in the series.

In a further update on Friday, it seems the duo talked are back on positive terms again.

But while Padalecki isn’t part of the Supernatural spinoff, he is busy at work with a spinoff of his own. The Walker star is executive producing Walker: Independence, a prequel for The CW set in the 1800s following Abby Walker, Bostonian who winds up in Texas as her journey out West hits a few tragic snags.

Should The CW like The Winchesters pilot, it’ll be the first Supernatural spinoff to make it to air.

Trailer is out. Here come the haters!

Sometimes when I'm channel surfing, I'll stop on Supernatural. I think Ackles is one of the most attractive men alive, and, while the show IS cheesy, it doesn't change the attraction.

I admit, it's a pathology.

by Anonymousreply 2May 20, 2022 1:49 AM

I didn't know that John and Mary had already been cast.

When does the show premiere on the CW??

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 3October 1, 2022 7:54 PM

This Tuesday, I believe.

Plus the new Walker prequel series looks really interesting, too. Lots of eye candy.

by Anonymousreply 4October 1, 2022 7:57 PM

Seriously, R4???

Damn, that was fast.

I think Jensen just pitched the idea earlier this year, and now it's already making its premiere.

Wow!

I'm going to check my cable guide.

by Anonymousreply 5October 1, 2022 7:58 PM

The 15 seasons of Supernatural wasn't enough?

by Anonymousreply 6October 1, 2022 7:59 PM

That’s what the network is counting on, R6.

Apparently Dean makes appearances, maybe bookends each episode?

People are saying they will screw with cannon but eh, when you have angels and demons (and God) anything is possible.

I’ll watch for sure.

by Anonymousreply 7October 1, 2022 8:03 PM

Will the fangirls watch without the wincest or will it be made to appeal to the reich wing?

by Anonymousreply 8October 1, 2022 8:59 PM

Maybe they’ll come up with another pair of boys we can ship.

One of those hunters looks to be pretty fabulous already.

by Anonymousreply 9October 1, 2022 9:06 PM

I'm so excited, I can spit!

by Anonymousreply 10October 1, 2022 9:08 PM

Jensen is finally getting somewhere.

He's also making an appearance in that ABC show coming up soon.

I forget what it's called.

The one with Reba McIntyre.

by Anonymousreply 11October 1, 2022 9:09 PM

It’s been back for two weeks now, R11.

Big Sky. There is a lot going on in terms of storylines .

He looks good. His character has a daughter. Looks to be a Latina girl. They haven’t shown the ex-wife yet.

by Anonymousreply 12October 1, 2022 9:15 PM

R4 I checked my cable guide.

There's nothing about the Supernatural prequel listed for all of this week.

However, the Walker (with Jared Padalecki) Season 3 premiere is this Thursday, followed by the "Walker, Origins" premiere right after that.

I can't believe that Walker is already up to season three!

by Anonymousreply 13October 2, 2022 4:37 AM

Apologies, R13, the show premiers on the 11th, so, next, next Tuesday.

by Anonymousreply 14October 2, 2022 4:40 AM

Yeah, 3 years already.

Jared said in his Instagram that his kids gave him lice 😲😳😳

Which, gross. You’d think private school kids would be above that sort of thing, but I guess not. 🤷🏻‍♀️

by Anonymousreply 15October 2, 2022 4:44 AM

OMG R15!

Good thing he cut his hair.

Less hair to wash.

by Anonymousreply 16October 2, 2022 4:53 AM

They could have cast much better looking actors for the leads. That's going to be a strike against the show and bring it down.

by Anonymousreply 17October 2, 2022 4:54 AM

Supernatural Prequel, R17?

I agree. I don't find either of them attractive.

Here's a photo of the Walker: Independence cast, with Jared.

Pretty diverse for the Wild West.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 18October 2, 2022 4:58 AM

r18, actually, the diversity in the photo looks believable, unlike 99% of Hollywood's forced diversity. Black, Indian, Asian and Hispanic would all make sense.

by Anonymousreply 19October 2, 2022 5:05 AM

CW Upfronts photo for Walker: Independence.

Jared is in a lot of photos for the show. Is he an Executive Producer?

by Anonymousreply 20October 2, 2022 5:09 AM

I just realized that Matt Barr is now in this Walker spinoff.

No wonder they killed him off on the original show.

He's playing Hoyt's great-great-grandfather, or something.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 21October 2, 2022 5:13 AM

Whoops.

Forgot to link the photo for R20.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 22October 2, 2022 5:14 AM

Yes, Jared is EP.

I heard they film in Santa Fe. Good for NM.

They get all those Hollywood revenue dollars.

I still don’t see any Latinos, unless you count the the guy that looks Native American. 🤔

by Anonymousreply 23October 2, 2022 5:50 AM

Matt Cohen and Amy Gumenick were way more attractive but I guess they now look to old for a prequel so far in the past.

by Anonymousreply 24October 2, 2022 5:52 AM

Totally agree with you, R24.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 25October 2, 2022 6:37 AM

I think that Matt and Amy still look young enough.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 26October 2, 2022 6:39 AM

Is Jensen going to be a regular on "Big Sky," or is he just a guest actor?

by Anonymousreply 27October 2, 2022 3:45 PM

He has an “And” credit but don’t know what that means.

I think a regular.

by Anonymousreply 28October 2, 2022 5:45 PM

Jensen is kind of all over the place.

Supernatural prequel, Big Sky, The Boys, Rust, etc.

Which one is his regular gig?

by Anonymousreply 29October 2, 2022 8:15 PM

Probably Big Sky, acting-wise.

He’s only EP on the prequel.

Didn’t someone say he wouldn’t be a regular for The Boys? He’s only doing a few episodes next year, I believe.

by Anonymousreply 30October 2, 2022 9:35 PM

I'm looking to Walker and Walker:Independence premiering this Thursday.

Jared is finally getting his Executive Producer credit (that he never got for Supernatural), and I think he's really good at it.

by Anonymousreply 31October 3, 2022 3:27 PM

Yes, I’m looking forward to the Independence show.

I get the feeling it will be more popular than the Winchester prequel.

I hope so, at any rate.

by Anonymousreply 32October 3, 2022 8:15 PM

He may have gone off the rails, but Jensen's got one of the sexiest voices, even if is elocution is a bit wonky.

by Anonymousreply 33October 3, 2022 8:38 PM

[quote] He may have gone off the rails, but Jensen's got one of the sexiest voices

That fake Batman voice?

Oh, please.

It's an affectation.

Jensen's real voice is much higher.

I guess he thought he sounded too girly, so he forcefully changed his voice to a lower octave.

Jensen's Soldier Boy was cream your jeans stuff.

The Machismo, the dirty talk and the shade had me a touch of the vapours!

by Anonymousreply 35October 4, 2022 4:05 AM

Dirty talk, R35???

Please provide examples.

From what I hear, Jensen refused to do scenes that were too raunchy.

Because he's a hard core right-wing fundie Republican.

by Anonymousreply 36October 5, 2022 1:50 AM

Jenshen Acklesh' Shupernatural, shtarring Sham and Dean Wincheshter.

by Anonymousreply 37October 5, 2022 1:54 AM

You're right, R14.

I just checked the online cable guide and here's the summary for the show:

[quote] The Winchesters Pilot Season 1, Episode 1 • Premiere

[quote] When John returns home from fighting in Vietnam, a mysterious encounter sparks a new mission to trace his father's past; John crosses paths with demon hunter Mary, who is also searching for answers after the disappearance of her own father.

I'm so excited!

by Anonymousreply 38October 5, 2022 4:54 AM

Walker Independence premieres tonight on the CW.

by Anonymousreply 39October 6, 2022 7:21 PM

Yes!

Can’t wait.

by Anonymousreply 40October 6, 2022 7:31 PM

How are they going to do a prequel when he’s twenty years older than when the original series started?

by Anonymousreply 41October 6, 2022 11:40 PM

Who, R41??

by Anonymousreply 42October 7, 2022 12:40 AM

Are you talking about John Winchester, R41?

by Anonymousreply 43October 7, 2022 2:11 AM

Yes Ackles’s character.

by Anonymousreply 44October 7, 2022 2:21 AM

Been watching some old SPN and realised Jared has indeed had a hair transplant of some kind. Likely a fue procedure. His fringe line has been altered and filled in. It's very apparent when you look at pics of him now and before.

He should of had the procedure and followed what is or was his natural front peak and filled it in. They're changed it and made it more obvious by creating a new one which was not natural to him.

I doubt it's a wig s he has the money to do it properly-although not here..

by Anonymousreply 45October 7, 2022 8:18 AM

I predict lots of Christianity, white supremacy, and homophobia. Maybe Donald Trump will do a few cameo appearances since Danneel adores him.

by Anonymousreply 46October 7, 2022 8:25 AM

Jensen is narrating the new show with his marvelous deep and sexy voice.

by Anonymousreply 47October 7, 2022 1:10 PM

You are full of shit, R46.

Where has she said that? They endorsed some guy running for Railroad Commissioner and he is a Dem.

by Anonymousreply 48October 7, 2022 6:02 PM

Jensen Ackles is NOT a Democrat.

He's right-wing religious fundamentalist, anti-gay, Duck Dynasty loving Texan.

Do not for one second try to pretend that he is not any of those things.

by Anonymousreply 49October 7, 2022 6:46 PM

Prove it, asshole R49

by Anonymousreply 50October 8, 2022 12:36 AM

Should have gone with a gay storyline, this shit is nauseating and out of touch. BORING. Ackles give it up and retire.

by Anonymousreply 51October 8, 2022 12:44 AM

To what show are you referring?

We haven’t seen the prequel yet.

Independence is one episode in. We don’t know what’s going to happen yet.

The hotel owner is Mark Sheppard!! Maybe he’ll be a fancy man.

There was a character in the trailer who was being fabulous.

Let’s wait to watch on Tuesday.

by Anonymousreply 52October 8, 2022 1:10 AM

by Anonymousreply 53October 8, 2022 3:50 AM

I must say I was surprised that they didn't John black and Mary Hispanic like every other reboot/ origin story on CW.

I am sure there will be calls for it to be cancelled when it airs for this grave oversight.

And when Mary is with child, will she name 'them' Deanna'.

by Anonymousreply 54October 8, 2022 8:55 AM

What are Castiel's pronouns?

by Anonymousreply 55October 8, 2022 3:10 PM

Who cares, R55.

Speaking of that attention whore, I’m seeing tweets that are intimating that that asshole will make appearances on this show.

If that’s the case, I’ll stop watching. I refuse to see anything he is on.

by Anonymousreply 56October 8, 2022 7:06 PM

I think it time for People magazine to name Jensen as Sexiest Man Alive and bring credibility back to the title.

by Anonymousreply 57October 9, 2022 1:47 AM

R57 = Jensen’s mom.

by Anonymousreply 58October 9, 2022 5:45 PM

OMG!!!

Tom Welling is going to appear in the Supernatural prequel. 😳😳😳😳😳😳🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

Holy shit! He’s gonna play very young Samuel Campbell, Deans grandpa.

Damn, well, have to tune in now 😬😬

by Anonymousreply 59October 9, 2022 9:32 PM

Jared, Jensen & now Tom!

Datalounge heads will explode with this new worship trinity.

Three successful and adored straight white guys is just too much for a lot of Datalounge coloured fem queens.

The bile will commence pretty soon when we have the new Winchesters threads that get paywalled every five minutes because the unhinged can't deal with it.

by Anonymousreply 60October 10, 2022 4:20 AM

Premieres Tuesday!

And you can just shut it, R60.

I want to imagine Jensen, Jared, and Tom in a threesome!

by Anonymousreply 61October 10, 2022 5:56 AM

I'm so excited for this show, I could just SPIT!

by Anonymousreply 62October 11, 2022 12:53 AM

Tom likely has the biggest cock of the three.

by Anonymousreply 63October 11, 2022 4:04 AM

My goodness but that Welling is statuesque. He towered above Jensen and he is 6’1.

Might be the same height as Jared but Tom has a bigger physique than chicken legs Jared.

by Anonymousreply 64October 11, 2022 5:48 AM

How was it?

Did anyone catch the premiere?

by Anonymousreply 65October 12, 2022 2:10 PM

Yes! It was pretty fun.

Lots of trying to recall things from the original show to see how they used it here, but in a way, these people would have done it or said it first!

It’s kind of trippy that way. I keep looking for those Easter eggs.

The new people are good. That Carlos fellow seems fun. He’s fabulous!

by Anonymousreply 66October 12, 2022 4:30 PM

It looked so cheap. One of the monsters was obviously a man in a costume. The other was never even shown—just hinted at. I’m hoping things pick up after the pilot. On the other hand, Drake Rodger (what a name) is hot.

And yes—Jensen was in it. As narrator and at the end on camera.7

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 67October 12, 2022 4:55 PM

So I guess a character can't just be gay any more. It's ok since the pilot played him up as basically straight.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 68October 12, 2022 5:23 PM

Well, I thought he was gay.

Only until later that he mentioned he went out with some girls, including Mary.

Have to watch it again. Too much exposition .

by Anonymousreply 69October 12, 2022 8:12 PM

R69 He mentioned having a crush on Mary but also being in an on again off again relationship with another girl.

by Anonymousreply 70October 12, 2022 8:41 PM

The character seems out of place for 1969.

by Anonymousreply 71October 12, 2022 9:03 PM

Thanks, R70 😀

Wasn’t the year 1972?

by Anonymousreply 72October 12, 2022 9:16 PM

Yes—1972. But still . .

by Anonymousreply 73October 12, 2022 10:56 PM

The pilot proved a ratings smash!

by Anonymousreply 74October 12, 2022 11:18 PM

[quote] R69 He mentioned having a crush on Mary but also being in an on again off again relationship with another girl.

MARY!

by Anonymousreply 75October 12, 2022 11:43 PM

Yeah, it did good, ratings-wise for the CW anyway.

The premier episode of Walker did a smidge better, though. 😏😬

by Anonymousreply 76October 13, 2022 4:51 AM

So now Grandpa Winchester will appear in the prequel show!

Gil McKinney will reprise his role on the new show.

Plus Dean said that he was still picking the music, which means they won’t be stuck with lousy pre-1972 music.

by Anonymousreply 77October 14, 2022 2:44 AM

by Anonymousreply 83October 14, 2022 5:06 AM

Will they encounter Mrs Butters?

by Anonymousreply 84October 14, 2022 6:30 AM

I just caught the premiere.

As a hard core Supernatural fan, I'm sad to say that I HATED it.

First off, they changed John and Mary's history. Right off the bat.

In the original series, when Dean is sent back in time for the first time, John is an innocent young man back from the war. He has no clue that Mary is a hunter from a hunter family. And this is AFTER they had been dating for a while.

In fact, John is about to propose to Mary, and he STILL doesn't know she's a hunter.

So why are they starting off this series with them just meeting, and Mary telling John that she's a hunter?

Anyone who watches Supernatural, knows that's not the correct timeline!!!

Second, I don't like the actress who plays Mary. AT ALL.

She's not right for the part. They are trying to make her some badass hunter like Sam and Dean, but that's not who she is. In the time two times that we've seen Mary (in the 1970's), the actress who played Mary (Amy Gumenick) is very soft and sweet. Endearingly sweet, in fact.

This young actress they have in the Winchester series is cold and not very charismatic. And she has no chemistry with the guy who plays John Winchester.

I hate that young females nowdays always have to be like men. They always have to be "kickass" and hard, to give the impression of strength.

I feel that there's a strength in softness. You can be passive and sweet, yet still be strong. Many women are like that. Female characters don't always have to be a "badass bitch" to be "strong."

I think that both Amy Gumenick and Samantha Smith (original Mary Winchester) are both soft spoken, yet strong. They both portrayed a softer side of Mary Winchester, yet both had strength when it was called for. But not in the way that this new actress is portraying it. This actress is just too fucking bossy. And that's NOT the Mary Winchester I know from the 15 seasons of Supernatural.

The guy who plays John just seems like a sidekick to Mary, which just adds to the frustration of this first episode.

Sam and Dean were partners. "The Winchesters" Mary and John are not partners. They made her the boss, and that too is not the way they were portrayed in Supernatural. In the original show, they were an old-fashioned husband and wife couple from the 1970's, trying to raise a family.

This new John and Mary are too 2022. Not 1972. And I hate that.

I'm shocked that the people involved in this show have strayed so much from the lore and the original characters.

You have McG as producer, Robbie Thompson as EP and writer, and Jensen and Danneel as EP's.

All of these people are very familiar with all 15 seasons of the original Supernatural, so it just bums me out that this new show doesn't have any of the feel of the old Supernatural.

I'm not loving it so far.

by Anonymousreply 85October 14, 2022 2:52 PM

They did it on purpose. There’s some mystery involved, but they say the story will eventually be consistent with established canon.

by Anonymousreply 86October 14, 2022 2:55 PM

Sorry R86, but you don't fuck with Supernatural.

The fans are too die-hard, and they are also WAY too familiar with the characters and canon.

You piss them off, and you lose them.

Supernatural was a good show because it was very consistent throughout the entire series.

This new show is changing personalities and timelines.

Don't think for one second that fans won't notice.

by Anonymousreply 87October 14, 2022 3:02 PM

Jensen and Danneel are really fucking this up.

Jared is a much better Executive Producer.

by Anonymousreply 88October 14, 2022 7:29 PM

Jensen needs to fix this.

FAST.

by Anonymousreply 89October 14, 2022 10:02 PM

It’s a god-damned tv show, just calm the fuck down.

Once they’re done telling the story you know that some angel or another is gonna wipe their memories and they will forget everything they ever did on this show.

Amy is/was beautiful. But wasn’t young enough anymore for this role.

John and Mary are not a couple yet, so they can act however they want.

It will NEVER have the feel of the original show considering, NONE of the original actors have any part of it.

The fans are smart enough to know that this show is not trying to be the show we love.

I’m only watching to support Jensen, even though he acted like an ass as far as Jared goes.

by Anonymousreply 90October 14, 2022 10:40 PM

Jared NEEDS to step in a right this mess!

You can only think John is gonna have some convoluted memory wipe at some stage and forget these made up new beginnings.

This Mary seems more akin to a snarky character you'd find in Arrow than SPN.

Dean at the end was jarring. You just think...where is SAM!?

by Anonymousreply 91October 15, 2022 1:39 AM

I'll tell you what this Supernatural prequel is lacking: fun, light heartedness, and humor.

And it's no wonder, considering that Jensen Ackles is the Executive Producer, because he lacks fun, light heartedness and humor.

This new show needs a shot of Richard Speight, Jr.

Not only is he intimately familiar with Supernatural, but he brings a lot of fun to the episodes he directs.

Jensen just isn't a lot of fun, and it shows.

by Anonymousreply 92October 15, 2022 10:02 PM

[quote] The Winchesters: 12 Supernatural Characters Who Should Visit Spinoff

The Winchesters already features three characters familiar to Supernatural fans — Mary, John and Dean — so what’s 12 more?

On the heels of the news that Gil McKinney will reprise his role as Henry Winchester on The CW’s prequel spinoff (airing Tuesdays at 8/7c), we here at TVLine put on our thinking caps and came up with some other characters from the mothership series that we’d love to see on the offshoot.

Many a supernatural and celestial being has close ties to the story of John and Mary Winchester’s past, and thanks to the magic of time travel and the fact that several of these characters are ageless wonders (or evils), it’s not out of the realm of possibility that folks like Dean and Sam’s angel pal Castiel or the demon Azazel could visit the show. We even came up with a couple of Supernatural vets who could possibly be responsible for The Winchesters‘ different recollection of how John and Mary met, and how he learned about the world of demons and hunting.

Plus, there’s a few fan-favorite human hunters who were around in 1972, when the spinoff is set, and thus could appear in young incarnations.

Note: Since it’s already been announced that Henry Winchester and Samuel Campbell (played by Tom Welling) are set to appear, we didn’t include other obvious immediate family members like Deanna Campbell among our selections.

The show needs to find a way to bring in young Bobby Singer. It may not make sense timeline-wise but the show already changed a lot

by Anonymousreply 94October 17, 2022 3:22 AM

Easy to do time travel eps to bring old characters from the future.

by Anonymousreply 95October 17, 2022 5:09 AM

The only ones who would have any business appearing would be Azazel and Rufus and Bobby.

Maybe Rowena and Crowley. No one else.

by Anonymousreply 96October 18, 2022 1:39 AM

[quote] The only ones who would have any business appearing would be Azazel and Rufus and Bobby.

[quote] Maybe Rowena and Crowley. No one else.

Why not Castiel?

He was assigned the job of pulling Dean out of hell, which means that he has been eyeing the Winchester family from the beginning, and he (along with Uriel) are both involved with their story.

But of course, the Castiel haters gotta keep hating.

by Anonymousreply 97October 18, 2022 2:12 AM

His vessel isn’t even born yet during the timeline.

by Anonymousreply 98October 18, 2022 2:25 AM

No more Rufus or Bobby.

I've had enough of them.

I'd like to see a young Jodi Mills or Ellen Harvelle.

Maybe re-hash what John Winchester did to get Ellen's husband killed.

by Anonymousreply 99October 18, 2022 2:26 AM

Were Rufus and Bobby lovers?

They're both uber-gay.

It was not shown tonight on FIOS because of dispute between the CW’s owner and Verizon. I will watch it tomorrow on CW’s App.

by Anonymousreply 101October 19, 2022 5:11 AM

How was episode two?

by Anonymousreply 102October 19, 2022 7:34 PM

R102 It was an OK monster of the week episode and had some decent character development but still not as good as the main show

Kripke must have input on this show.

It's his sense of humor, snarkiness, quirkiness, and pop culture knowledge that made Supernatural so unique.

Jensen has none of that. All he has is drive and ambition to become more famous.

That usually doesn't equate to a good show.

TVLine did mention that Verizon and MediaStar, or whoever they are, were bickering and many major cities had lost the CW channel altogether.

So the ratings are going to reflect that.

Sorry to say I fell asleep during EP 2. ☺️

I was watching the opening credits (before I fell asleep) and there are many many exec producers. Some of them were also exec producers on the mothership. Robbie Thompson, even McG is back too. It should be a better show than this. Hopefully the storyline picks up because right now it’s not very exciting. They need more Carlos.

The Indian lady actually looked like some sort of south American native with her “hippie” outfit 😛

Is there a new episode tonight?

by Anonymousreply 106October 26, 2022 12:26 AM

Yes, there is

by Anonymousreply 107October 26, 2022 1:23 AM

Is anyone watching this show?

by Anonymousreply 108November 2, 2022 2:07 AM

Some people are.

It should be better than it is. I guess because maybe I feel that we’ve seen all this before but it isn’t as exciting this go-round.

I do love the Carlos character.

For some reason John is looking a lot more like Supernaturals John Winchester, aka Jeff Dean Morgan. In certain poses or with certain expressions he looks so much like him.

I’ll stick around to see Grandpa Campbell, (the hottie Tom Welling) then I’ll figure out if I’ll keep watching.

Will now only be 13 episodes for the season. No back order for a full 22 ep one.

Seems new owners of CW are not committed to any of the shows currently running.

Could end up dying in a ditch after just one short season unless they find a new buyer.

New CW is committed to cheap reality type shows. They seem to want to junk all expensive scripted shows.

by Anonymousreply 110November 2, 2022 3:38 AM

Wow, that's bad news R110.

But honestly, I'm not really liking this new show.

It has none of the feel of the original Supernatural that I love.

by Anonymousreply 111November 2, 2022 3:44 AM

Drake had a nice shirtless scene at the start.

by Anonymousreply 112November 2, 2022 4:52 AM

Was early Supernatural so cheap with the special effects?

by Anonymousreply 113November 2, 2022 4:53 AM

I didn't think so, R113.

I actually think the Supernatural FX were pretty good, especially for 2005.

by Anonymousreply 114November 2, 2022 5:15 AM

R112 He also had a scene at the end with a wet shirt sitting in the tub

I just started watching the show and I'm on episode two. Can't say I'm enjoying it too much. Guy playing John is spot on (and obviously super hot, Jensen probably picked him) and the girl playing Mary is ok enough. I watched Supernatural on-off over the years but don't remember too much about what was told about the parents which is why I don't mind little retconning.

However I do have a problem with the writing. They formed the team with the three others way too quickly. It would've been better if they'd just had John and Mary alone for some time before bringing in others this majorly.

[quote] I do love the Carlos character.

My main problem with the show is Carlos. It's like the producers learned from all the Supernatural gay shipping and created this creature that's bi/gay/queer/trans/lesbian/black/latin/clown. It doesn't help that the actor seems to think he's in a sitcom, although obviously he can only do that much with the material he's given. That said all other actors can sell their lines, however silly they might be, but not him. It's drag queen level overacting he's giving, and it's quite embarrassing.

Another main issue is the show's poor quality. Terrible writing, poorly written characters and a CW teen show feel drag the show down which is a shame since otherwise production values are mainly high enough.

Supernatural always drew a fine line between comedic moments and dead-serious story lines.

He’s there for comic relief, which is fine. He looks fabulous and has a fantastic attitude towards that horrifying world they live in.

by Anonymousreply 117November 22, 2022 1:02 AM

R117, yes, Carlos is there for comedy but it's all done so terribly badly that it doesn't work. I don't hate the actor, he's ok at times but he's just not skilled enough to pull off all the things thrown at him.

by Anonymousreply 118November 22, 2022 5:47 AM

Finally Carlos getting some

by Anonymousreply 119November 23, 2022 4:41 AM

Damn, I missed it!

I have it dvr’ed

Too busy right now

by Anonymousreply 120November 23, 2022 8:07 PM

I miss my Sammy.

He's the main reason I watched Supernatural.

by Anonymousreply 121November 23, 2022 11:18 PM

Has "The Winchesters" been cancelled yet?

I heard that the show was "on the bubble" with the CW execs.

by Anonymousreply 122November 24, 2022 4:08 AM

Too early to tell
