If not, do you feel your home is secure?
Do you keep a gun in your home?
by Anonymous | reply 64 | February 7, 2022 6:51 PM |
More so than if there were a gun in it.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 4, 2022 3:41 AM |
If I lived in a house rather than a secure condo I would have a gun - maybe more. And giant German Shepherds.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 4, 2022 3:46 AM |
But of course, Mon Chéri. But not a gun..guns. I am a serious collector.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 4, 2022 3:47 AM |
No, but I have a gnu, which is pretty close.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 4, 2022 3:59 AM |
I don't have a gun because I have mental health issues that periodically get more intense and I don't think that people who have MHI's should be allowed to have guns. I do have the most psychotic dog around though and feel very safe.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 4, 2022 4:01 AM |
Also, my psycho dog doesn't have a gun for the same reasons. I suspect that I make him feel as safe as he makes me feel though.

They are not a work of art.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 4, 2022 4:12 AM |
I don’t. I’m not necessarily opposed to it but I would have no idea where or how to even get a gun or how much they cost. If my neighborhood had a crime problem I might be more inclined to find out.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 4, 2022 4:18 AM |
I have 3 guns in my house.
1. Glock 9mm. Personal protection.
2. Benelli M2 shotgun. Duck hunting, but if I had to shoot someone who broke into my house during the night, Id prefer this over the Glock if it were handy.
3. LWRC AR-15. Feral hog control. I only have it with me when I'm out in the fields where I know the hogs are, other than that this one stays in the gun safe.
Yes, I hunt and shoot hogs. They don't go to waste. I always eat what a kill, and if I have more than one hog, I pay to have the meat processed, and donate it to the needy.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 4, 2022 4:18 AM |
How much does it cost to have meat processed?
And do they also cook it?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 4, 2022 4:19 AM |
R12 It costs around $200-$375 depending on how big it is. They dont cook the meat, they just portion it up into cuts you would find at a store, freeze them, and contact local organizations that distribute it. A lot of hogs here in Texas get donated that way. They are considered invasive and they even have a bounty on them. Last time I went, it was $5 a tail.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 4, 2022 4:24 AM |
As I am aging I find My Glock too heavy. My Beretta 9 is better.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 4, 2022 4:28 AM |
R11, thank you for the info! I was curious about how you also found people to give it to, but it's nice to hear that they have a system in place.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 4, 2022 4:30 AM |
Here in the Hudson Valley the Food Banks which carry fresh food take deer & other donated game. There is also a Religious community that will take it as well. They do cook it & use it at their soup kitchens.

No, but I keep a baseball bat next to the bed and a small hand grenade in the top drawer of the nightstand. They literally never knew what hit them.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 4, 2022 4:39 AM |
No guns in my condo. I have a security system and live three miles from a police station.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 4, 2022 4:43 AM |
Yes, a Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 4, 2022 4:52 AM |
I think in light of things it is a great idea. I have a full carry permit & can carry concealed, not in NYC.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 4, 2022 5:07 AM |
Not to worry, I keep a grenade-launcher.

by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 4, 2022 5:13 AM |
Why be victimized? I won't tolerate it anymore. I refuse to be considered prey by some jerk. If more gay men had guns, & people knew we were armed , maybe they would think twice before they tried to kill us , so often. I have the red laser light on my Beretta 9. I think someone looking down & seeing that red dot on their chest might make them think twice. If not, well there is always a leg shot.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 4, 2022 5:22 AM |
I’d have to get a permit and I couldn’t carry it. AR-15s are banned, so what’s the point? Like I’m going to THINK about who I shoot, and aim and everything? When I want to shoot, I’m going to want a SPRAY of bullets

by Anonymous | reply 32 | February 4, 2022 5:51 AM |
R21, oh my. I may have to rethink not having one in my secure condo. That looks like a must-have. Does it also work as a cigarette lighter?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 4, 2022 6:01 AM |
No, I am in a highrise condo. Lobby door is locked and you need a keyfob to open it, or have the doorman let you in. Once in the lobby, the elevator will not take you anywhere unless you have a keyfob. The keyfob only allows me to take the elevator to my own floor or the garage or lobby. There are cameras in the driveway, outside the lobby door, inside the lobby, inside the elevator, and in the hallway outside the elevator. The front desk is staffed 24/7. Nobody has ever shown up at my door unannounced.

by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 4, 2022 6:31 AM |

Two semiautomatic handguns – a 9mm and a .45
Only once have I pointed it at a person, who had climbed over a wall into my back yard. I was reading in my study and saw him reflected in a mirror looking into my window. I calmly got up, walked down the hall, retrieved the 9mm from a cabinet in the hall, and went out back through the garage. He put his hands up and we waited for the police. It turned out that he had burgled in the neighborhood the previous night. The cops arrested him.

We had a rifle in our house growing up.
One night my father nearly shot a classmate of mine who came over to tell me about how he'd just lost his virginity.
What a bummer if he'd lost more than his virginity that night.
We also had a machete that was used for yard work and kitchen duty.
We weren't soft like you kids today. If you wanted coconut water, you'd better have a fucking machete to make sure it was fresh.
That canned stuff is crap.

A Glock is like Tupperware.
An HK-VP9 is like fine china
by Anonymous | reply 40 | February 4, 2022 6:56 AM |
God, I don't even lock my door most of the time, and I live alone. Do most of you live in Compton? I do have a nifty heavy duty magnet attached to the side of the refrigerator where I keep a collection of cleavers for food preparation (maybe 5 really big and sharp ones) , and that would have to suffice if someone invaded my home. Out and about I'm much more scared of all the crazy people carrying guns and don't see how carrying one myself would help the situation. Rule number one - don't provoke and don't escalate. Always scope out an escape route if running for your life should become necessary.

With my big dick, I don't need another gun in the house.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 6, 2022 4:51 AM |
No guns, but things to strike an intruder placed behind doors or in strategic corners. Not a fan of guns in the house.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 6, 2022 4:58 AM |
Is that a GUN in your pocket or are you just HAPPY to see me?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 6, 2022 5:02 AM |
I am always thinking about how long it would take me to get to the kitchen knives.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | February 6, 2022 5:02 AM |
My ex was a fireman and was into guns and shooting. I don't care for guns, but I also have nothing against them. He did take me shooting a few times and I really liked it!
Anyway, years into our relationship, my sister and my nephews were staying at my place (I had my own place that I kept even though I lived with my partner) while their place was getting something worked on.
My nephew, around 10 at the time, was looking for something in the closet and pulled out a fucking pistol! Freaking him my sister, and me (once I found out) out.
Seems my ex had brought a gun up there at some point, years earlier, and had forgotten about it.
Shit like that is why I won't have a gun in my house. Too easy to fuck up and at too great a possible cost.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 6, 2022 5:27 AM |
[R47], if your ex was gun crazy, he wouldn't have left a gun in a closet. Are you saying he left a loaded gun WITHOUT the safety on in that closet? If that's true, I'm glad he's your ex.
A friend's nephew in Alaska pulled a gun on his younger brother and killed him. He was young, under the age of 10, and didn't think the gun was loaded. His fucking father left it around their house. In Alaska people possess guns. But this was tragic.

[quote] No guns, but things to strike an intruder placed behind doors or in strategic corners.
The problem with that type of weapon is you have to get close to use it and then the chances of it being taken away from you and used on you is pretty high.
Even worse with knives. They'll take it and stab you to death. This is a real problem for women and not so tough men.
Guns are the answer if you are interested in defending yourself. If you don't like handguns, then get a rifle or shotgun and learn how to use it. Better chance of hitting someone.

[quote] With my big dick, I don't need another gun in the house.
Exactly, just take that big gun and shoot them in the face with your load. That will knock them out cold.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | February 6, 2022 7:34 AM |
R48, oh there was a safety on! He was crazy into safety.
We stayed at my place (it was in another part of our city) and he brought the gun over at one point. He just forgot it was there. It was probably in that closet for like six years before my nephew stumbled upon it.
And my nephews didn't ever stay there normally. It was a confluence of weird circumstances, really.
But that's why I don't like guns. They make every thing more complicated.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | February 6, 2022 9:33 AM |
Yes -- a .380 Ruger LCP by my recliner and a .25 Beretta by the bed.
But then again, I'm an old lesbian.

I inherited 2 pistols from my parents. A 357 magnum from my father and a small 38 from my mother. I keep the little one locked up in the safe in my main residence in a high rise condo and the 357 I keep in a safe in a summer house I own. I'm not particularly worried about being a crime victim in my condo, but the summer house is very isolated and there have been thefts reported in the general area. Thank goodness I've never even had to pull the gun out of the safe. I hope any bad people are paying at least some attention to the security service sign at the end of the driveway that also says the property is under 24 hour video surveillance. and figure it's not worth it.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | February 6, 2022 10:17 AM |
Just out of curiosity, R56, how do you get to the gun if there is a break-in during the night? Is the safe in your bedroom and do you sleep with your door locked?
What about if you come home and interrupt a burglary?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | February 6, 2022 9:49 PM |
Yes, i have a gun and will use it if i had to but i hope i never have to.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | February 6, 2022 10:11 PM |
I do not. I’m into gun control.
I have a security system on my home plus 2 dogs that bark (loudly) whenever a leaf blows outside. I also keep my rape whistle on my night stand.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | February 6, 2022 10:23 PM |
R57 the second someone comes onto the property, either in a vehicle or on foot, I get an alert on my cell phone. If it's after dark and I've armed the system the security lights on all 4 corners of the house light the place up like a Christmas tree. If someone actually gets to the house before I become aware (if I'm asleep) they'll have a tough time getting in. The outside doors are double dead bolted and all the windows are security windows. I'll have the gun out of the safe and ready to go long before anyone could actually get inside. If I press the panic button on the security system the siren can be heard for a long distance.
I feel relatively safe. Plus I've got 3 guard kitties who are hyper sensitive to any movement outside. They wake me up all the time if they see a strange animal walking on the property even in pitch black darkness.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | February 6, 2022 10:25 PM |
Thanks, R60. You sound secure.
What happens if someone tries to break in when you are mowing the lawn during the day? I suggest you mow while strapped.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | February 7, 2022 4:26 AM |
If I'm just working on the front lawn I don't bother to lock up. But when I work in the back I lock up. I didn't use to, but once a couple years ago I was working in the back yard and as I drove the lawn mower around to the front to dump the bags at the street there was a man and 2 women knocking on my front door. Turned out they were Jehovah's Witnesses. Innocent, but it made me decide to be more pro active. I don't trust those religious nuts.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | February 7, 2022 11:23 AM |
If I lived in a house in my neighborhood, I might consider it. But I live in a second floor condo, and someone would have to get through the front security gate, the entry door to my building, and then my security doors. I am not worried at all.
I have thought about getting one to have on me when I’m out and about in town, but I doubt I will. Even though I grew up around guns—we lived in the country and dad was a hunter—they still make me nervous.
