"Let's get this bullshit over with, I've got a 16-year-old waiting for me."

by Anonymousreply 2January 30, 2022 4:40 PM

Team R2.

by Anonymousreply 3January 30, 2022 4:46 PM

I remember laughing my ass off with a group of friends at an Oscars watch party when Spacey sashayed out on stage wearing this monstrosity.

It just screamed FAG when he was so desperate to be closeted at the time.

I remember my pal saying all he was missing was a top hat, monocle and an elongated cigarette holder.

by Anonymousreply 4January 30, 2022 5:00 PM

I'm a pretty girl, Momma!

by Anonymousreply 5January 30, 2022 5:02 PM

I wonder how many people he pretended to flash that night.

[quote] Kevin Spacey at the 1997 Oscars What was she thinking?

He clearly wasn’t

by Anonymousreply 7January 30, 2022 5:38 PM

Juliette Binoche looks lovely.

by Anonymousreply 8January 30, 2022 5:40 PM

In those days he was just then becoming a star after years of struggling--plus he was kind of handsome, but aging. So he was incredibly desperate for attention and fame in those days--he knew his window was closing down if he didn't go for it.

That explains the closetedness (he wanted leading roles and was afraid being out would foreclose those opportunities), and his ridiculousness in pushing the Bobby Darin project, which he was just too old to do by the time he had he clout to do it.

by Anonymousreply 9January 30, 2022 6:18 PM

He and Juliette both look like Batman villains.

by Anonymousreply 10January 30, 2022 7:21 PM

"Afterparty at Ms. Singer's!"

by Anonymousreply 11January 30, 2022 7:32 PM

He was thinking, “how to I force 15 year olds into anally penetrating me? 🤔”

by Anonymousreply 12January 30, 2022 8:23 PM

[quote]What was she thinking?

Jesus Christ you are retarded.

by Anonymousreply 13January 30, 2022 8:43 PM

What was he thinking here? What was he thinking when he won the Best Actor award (undeserved) and during his acceptance speech declared his love for a woman Diane? The camera panned to her face and she looked shell shocked.

by Anonymousreply 14January 30, 2022 8:48 PM

Is that Diane in R1 photo?

She looks shell shocked and extremely uncomfortable.

by Anonymousreply 15January 30, 2022 9:19 PM

Spacey clearly chose her for her boyish figure.

by Anonymousreply 16January 30, 2022 9:20 PM

Yes, the woman in the photo with Spacey at R1 is the infamous Diane. His lady love. Snort!

by Anonymousreply 17January 30, 2022 9:58 PM

He told Bacall beforehand he was looking forward to reading out her name. Look how that turned out. As for his outfit, last years winner is never supposed to overshadow the new winner, but Juliette made sure that would’nt happen, even though she didn’t think she’d end up on stage.

by Anonymousreply 18January 30, 2022 10:36 PM

My God, he is gay from space in OP's picture. How did everyone not see it at the time?

by Anonymousreply 19January 30, 2022 11:08 PM

I think she's tremendous.

by Anonymousreply 20January 30, 2022 11:10 PM

[quote] How did everyone not see it at the time?

Because 1990s fraus. Gay men certainly knew he was a big 'ol homo.

by Anonymousreply 21January 30, 2022 11:13 PM

"There's something wrong with Aunt Diane's date!"

by Anonymousreply 22January 31, 2022 12:46 AM

To be fair, that was the look that year. A couple of other actors had on similar long dress coats. Nineties fashion did get weird at times.

by Anonymousreply 23January 31, 2022 1:30 AM

Why is Binoche dressed like Esmeralda?

by Anonymousreply 24January 31, 2022 1:59 AM

Binoche looked as ridiculous as Spacey. They didn't know how to dress, either of them.

by Anonymousreply 25January 31, 2022 2:04 AM

It's not just the coat. It's the face that screams "Do I smell Snickerdoodles?!?"

by Anonymousreply 26January 31, 2022 1:39 PM

Binoche claimed that she didn't expect to win, but that dress only makes sense in close shots of her holding her Oscar.

Did anyone on Joan Rivers' fashion squad trash him that year?

by Anonymousreply 28January 31, 2022 3:50 PM

I remember the prior year, when he won, Rivers kept referring to him as "the Good Humor man" cause of his white jacket.

by Anonymousreply 29January 31, 2022 4:11 PM

LA Confidential came out later this year (1997). My gaydar was pinging hard on him in that movie. Probably b/c his character was supposed to be a 1950s cop (butch). It was a struggle for KS.

So ugly.

by Anonymousreply 31January 31, 2022 5:43 PM

R25 - FFS, that's what the looks were in the Nineties. Of course we view it different in today's lens. Fashion took many more risks back then.

by Anonymousreply 32January 31, 2022 11:37 PM

R32 the 90s had loads of tacky looks.

by Anonymousreply 33February 1, 2022 12:31 AM

That picture looks like closeted me in 1997 wearing my new Opera Trenchcoat from International Male with my supportive bestie at prom 🤣

by Anonymousreply 34February 1, 2022 8:03 AM

I have never found Ms Kevin Spacey to be a good actor. He comes off as a sketch comedian doing campy impressions.

by Anonymousreply 35February 1, 2022 8:21 AM

I thought by then the 'Esquire' feature had been published which openly quoted people assuming he was gay. It was notable because it broke usual showbiz protocols, and caused a fuss. No wonder Diane was confused.
