I don't think that age difference is a big deal. Especially if those photos were up-to-date and accurate. If you saw them together the age difference wouldn't seem drastic or a problem.

by Anonymousreply 7January 30, 2022 5:56 AM

The 32-year-old guy looked ancient for his age, with more than a hint of meth face. No one would have seen them and immediately thought there was a major age difference.

The article doesn’t explicitly say how the Sydney couple died. I’d assume gunshots, but only Americans shoot each other. But it was guns, right?

And imagine having to hear two people fight and best each other up all the time? That’s awful. I’m assuming drugs.

by Anonymousreply 34January 30, 2022 10:20 AM

I'm in Sydney. It would be very unusual for a gun to be involved in a crime like this. Domestic violence murders here do not usually involve guns, and ordinary people do not own guns.

Guns are usually only used by hardcore criminals. If someone is shot dead in Sydney (which is very rare by US standards) it's almost always rival drugs gangs killing each other.

There are other groups in Sydney who are to their necks in vice and very wealthy from it, but they're never seen, they're never caught, they're never jailed and they certainly aren't shot dead in the street. Shooting and killing and being in the news are the traits of low IQ idiots.

Having just poked around on Facebook it seems these two may have been in some ways marginalised/vulnerable. In Sydney, boarding houses are very cheap, have a seedy reputation and tend to be for people who are in a difficult position, usually men. There's a publicly viewable Facebook post where the older guy is asking people to help him find the other guy, who apparently had a history of going missing.

by Anonymousreply 60January 30, 2022 11:40 PM

[quote]Having just poked around on Facebook it seems these two may have been in some ways marginalised/vulnerable.

Dataloungers are so despicable. Stalking these guys online, just like that crazy person who was messaging supposed family members of that terrible snow shoveling murder. Pestering them, harassing them, and they weren’t related yet the Datalounger wouldn’t let up. Still harassed them.

by Anonymousreply 61January 30, 2022 11:48 PM

Gay men in a boarding house?

Death by low standards.

by Anonymousreply 62January 30, 2022 11:55 PM

How can you "stalk" someone who is dead, by looking at their publicly available Facebook posts? No one is messaging any living relatives in this case and nor would I ever.

by Anonymousreply 63January 30, 2022 11:56 PM

R54 This incident occurred south of the city but Tim Draxl lives in the Gay Eastern Suburbs.

He's cashed up now after appearing in that TV car advertisement.

(it might be for a Mitsubishi Triton, perhaps. All cars lookalike to me.

by Anonymousreply 64January 31, 2022 2:52 AM

[quote] Having just poked around on Facebook

I did too. The older one had no less than three Facebook accounts — presumably having lost his password/email address. Sad story for both. Clearly on meth like so many of their friends ( New Years Resolution: Getting clean!) Posts about starting afresh. etc I was so fascinated I even checked put the address on Google Maps: 265 Cleveland St, Newtown, Sydney. An Edwardian shop (vacant) with rundown suicide-inducing apartments at the back. Here’s the crazy bit. If you google the apartments, they’ve all sold recently for sums like $770,000. Sydney prices!

by Anonymousreply 69January 31, 2022 8:47 AM

We’re they friends with Billy and Gage Santoro?

by Anonymousreply 70January 31, 2022 8:58 AM

Fun fact: Meth came to Sydney for the first time, in a big way, with the Gay Games. All those West Coast queens brought their best with them. And haven't the results been spectacular?

RIP.

by Anonymousreply 75January 31, 2022 7:29 PM

[quote]About 3.30pm on Monday, a 41-year-old man was arrested at a unit on Cleveland Street and taken to Mascot police station where he was charged with two counts of murder.

[quote]Police will allege in court the men were known to each other and lived in the same boarding house.

[quote]A number of items were seized from the premises for forensic examination.

[quote]The 41-year-old man was refused police bail and is due to face Central Local Court on Tuesday.

Gay couple. I’m sure they were called “queer” as they were brutally murdered, though.

by Anonymousreply 120February 5, 2022 3:23 AM

Not really. Queer isn't a common street-level slur in Australia. These days it's the lovely US import, "faggot". That word overtook the local slur, "poofter" in the 80s/90s. You never hear the latter anymore. Queer is more of an academic/activist word that's used to erase gay male experience and lump it in with basically straight people with blue hair and mild kinks, and middleclass white women who are mildly bisexual.

by Anonymousreply 121February 5, 2022 3:28 AM

by Anonymousreply 126February 5, 2022 7:37 AM

Sydney City Council attempted to have an ordinary Mardi Gras street party (like Berlin's Love Parade) about 20 something years ago.

It was held down on a Saturday night down behind the Overseas Passenger Terminal. And it was a fizzier.

So they held back, realised that bureaucratic public servants aren't equipped to be party-merchants and then starting subsidising the Gay Mardi Gras and let the unpaid gays do ALL THE WORK voluntarily.

She personally had to go to preferences but in fairness she was still way out ahead of all other candidates.

I'm just glad that the only person I was prepared to vote for, Yvonne Weldon, got on a seat on the council.
