The article doesn’t explicitly say how the Sydney couple died. I’d assume gunshots, but only Americans shoot each other. But it was guns, right?
And imagine having to hear two people fight and best each other up all the time? That’s awful. I’m assuming drugs.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 30, 2022 10:20 AM |
I'm in Sydney. It would be very unusual for a gun to be involved in a crime like this. Domestic violence murders here do not usually involve guns, and ordinary people do not own guns.
Guns are usually only used by hardcore criminals. If someone is shot dead in Sydney (which is very rare by US standards) it's almost always rival drugs gangs killing each other.

Having just poked around on Facebook it seems these two may have been in some ways marginalised/vulnerable. In Sydney, boarding houses are very cheap, have a seedy reputation and tend to be for people who are in a difficult position, usually men. There's a publicly viewable Facebook post where the older guy is asking people to help him find the other guy, who apparently had a history of going missing.

Not really. Queer isn't a common street-level slur in Australia. These days it's the lovely US import, "faggot". That word overtook the local slur, "poofter" in the 80s/90s. You never hear the latter anymore. Queer is more of an academic/activist word that's used to erase gay male experience and lump it in with basically straight people with blue hair and mild kinks, and middleclass white women who are mildly bisexual.

Sydney City Council attempted to have an ordinary Mardi Gras street party (like Berlin's Love Parade) about 20 something years ago.
It was held down on a Saturday night down behind the Overseas Passenger Terminal. And it was a fizzier.
So they held back, realised that bureaucratic public servants aren't equipped to be party-merchants and then starting subsidising the Gay Mardi Gras and let the unpaid gays do ALL THE WORK voluntarily.
