For once, New Yorkers most welcome to enlighten us.
Is the mafia still around. What's the mob been up to? Which families are still operating?

Nice thread, OP; it would be a shame if something were to happen to it.

The Italian mafia loves Canada. Excellent country to commit fraud and other shady activities in.

Omerta, OP.

No OP the mafia is no longer around. But you can read about it in books.

There’s only 1 mafia family in America.

I wish the Mafia would clean the scum off the streets of the city. Patrol the subways, sidewalks etc. Take matters into their own hands and make the criminals realize they’re not getting away with it anymore.

What we need is a group like the Guardian Angels that New York had in the 80s. We need them here in Los Angeles right way. Crime is out of control here!

I don’t think the mafia ever did that R7. They were mainly concerned about making money for their “family”.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 31, 2022 5:27 AM |
Who really knows? it’s not like they’re posting their exploits on Twitter or Instagram!

The Russians mostly took it over, along with various other minor ethnicities like the Albanians and Serbs.

Any stories about the russian mafia?

I had lunch with a retired mafioso in the Bronx, and I've fucked one from Staten Island, not retired. Rather, he fucked me.

Rumors it,, at least 20 yrs ago, that Rudy busted the Gotti family to make way for the Russian mobs. The Russians were already here but the Gottis were making life harder. Trump masqueraded as a Real Estate Developer, but the Russians saw him more as a laundry mat. His "modeling agencies" were fronts for human trafficking. Donnie was a wannabe mobster hanging around with Russian mobsters turned Oligarchs, transformed into modern day royalty in Russia because the were so filthy rich. He was always trying to do deals and loved to associate with them as one of the guys. They laughed at him, but he was so damned useful. The links between the Russian mob and Rudy, and Donnie are hard to ignore. They go back to the 80's. In Russia there is no separation between business and mobsters. They're the same.

What are these Russian mobsters contoling? Anything falling off trucks these days?
Who's running Vegas now?
I was surprised to read in a book by a musical agent that all kinds of cheating goes on with tour ticket sales to rob the performer so as to line the pockets of promoters and venue owners. But no mob involvement

The constellation of mob elated activity runs the gamut from vast international cartels dealing in energy and minerals, to "stuff the falls off t he tuck," loan sharking, etc. Look. Here's an example. remember Lev Parnas and Michael Cohen's dad and his father in law? They call themselves, "businessmen," but they're connected. They're comparatively small time. Buying taxi medallions, loan shaking, fraud precious stones in the diamond district, fencing, etc. But as you move up the food chain, things get more international and lucrative. Everyone is scrambling to move up all the time, and really it is all about how resourceful and smart you are and how successful you are. Are you a good earner? Go watch the Al Pacino tour de force, Donnie Brasco. It deals with the seedier side, takes some of the glamour out of it. About20 years ago, give o take, maybe late 90's, I remember seeing these young, tough looking Eastern European guys cutting deals with one another, right on the sidewalk to unload maybe 1,000 burner phones. The old ones, that flipped.

If you believe there was no mob involvement I have a bridge to sell you R22. You deal in petty larceny and make enough money you will bump up against it in no time.

What about the Gambino crime family? When I lived in upstate NY, we were constantly hearing updates on their antics and there was apparently a part of the family that lived up there and in Ontario.
