I have terrible skin. I had bad acne and have scarring from it that five laser resurfacings only slightly improved, and I have an immunological disorder that affects all my connective tissue. It's a curse.

My BMI was just short of being technically overweight before I lost a good amount of weight during the pandemic, and the hollowing of my face has aged me rapidly. Even with damaged skin, extra weight smoothed and filled it out enough that it looked more youthful and healthier.

Given how youthfully lean Leto is, I imagine he has had significant surgical pulling and plumping by needle to get his skin looking so smooth at 50, and I'm sure his crazy Russian-style beard is meant to camouflage a pretty altered visage. Grandma did not smoke or drink, but that is the only difference. My dad could easily make it to 100+ with no known medical issues at 94. His dad lived to be 98, also a heavy drinker and smoker, but still 98 ain't bad

R78 If there is one thing about plastic surgery i wish people understood its that ANY skilled doctor will end up with a variety of outcomes on the same procedures. Including death. i once met someone who had the same procedure as me around the same period from the same doctor and the scarring was very different. and it happened to be a top plastic surgeon in one of America's biggest cities.

On this board we often discuss bad plastic surgery. We probably at times mock the results on some actresses while complimenting the work on others not realizing its the same doctor involved.

R110 agreed. I think a lot of bad surgery is due to the work not working out on certain individuals. We all have different facial structures, skin, shapes, etc., that won't work with all conventionally attractive features people seek.

There's a few people I know that had to repeat procedures because they misjudged what it would look like on them. The big nose, carved into a ski slope, might throw off the entire face. They also underestimated how they heal and how that new feature looks over their particular bones and muscles. There's a reason why we all don't wrinkle the same way -- some getting smile lines, nasal folds, or between the eyes, while some don't, or exp skin drooping in general.

While healthy choices (not sunbathing, squinting, etc) can make a difference, it's mostly down to genes and money that keep some looking better than others; along with the right choice in procedures.

Just to add, (having disposable funds aside), something that irks me about this modern trend of gawking over how young someone looks for their age... Compared to what?! People 50 yrs ago or more? Well no shit more people are able to look "younger" than previous generations. There's not only tons of care options, but life isn't hard in the same ways it used to be.

I'm sure people in the past would've looked better as well if they weren't doing hard labor in factories, on farms, etc., along with having time and equipment to do "self care". Sometimes, even the simplest things like dye and style can take off years... Or add them. I actually expect there to be noticable advances in dealing with aging signs, no different than medical advancements.

If 50 didn't look better in the 2020s than in the 1920s, it would be quite disappointing really... (And again, were talking about someone wealthy, that works in an industry where looks matter more than what's normal.).
