Who will make the cut?
I say the four remaining women. Bye, Bones.

I had to comment on this week's show.
The judges comments were way off.
Kristina's model looked horrible, although I don't think anyone has yet been able to make her look good. It's the model, not the clothes.
Yet Kristina said something, which is the key to working with this girl: "Was my design ambitious? No. But given the time constraints..."
That's the secret. Just make a tent for her, with a simple design. Bam. Done.
I was laughing when Kristina was at Mood shopping for fabric. She bought all the fabric in that particular style, and she said there STILL wasn't enough fabric to make her outfit. Lol. That girl must take at least 10 yards of fabric to completely cover her.
And I don't know why they trashed Coral. Her design looked great on the runway. I thought she would at least be safe.
Aaron deserved to be in the bottom, but Bones (as much as I like him) should have been there too. His design was a mess, and that top with the rolled fabric looked very cheap.
In my opinion, Chasity and Shantall should have been in the top. Kristina and Coral should have been safe. And Bones and Aaron should have been in the bottom.
That said, the right person won, and the right person went home.

The other thread is paywalled?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 17, 2022 6:01 PM |
Strange, R2.
That thread is not even up to 400 posts yet.
Are there that many repeat posters for Project Runway?
I would have thought that there would be more than just a few fans of the show.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 18, 2022 1:29 AM |
Look, they can have a plus size model or two! but ffs, get a decent one who has a decent bra. There was no excuse for what she wore to the fitting.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 18, 2022 1:36 AM |
Honestly R4, I don't think that anyone has made that large model look good.
Her body shape/size are just too difficult to design for.
It's really unfair having her on the show.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 18, 2022 1:38 AM |
There aren’t any corset makers this season. Helen or Candace, they’d be buying yards of boning and have her laced up so tight she couldn’t breathe but at least her boobs wouldn’t be hanging to her waist.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 18, 2022 4:06 AM |
Have to say, I’m really not missing a host. They wasted too much time on their entrances and empty speeches.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 18, 2022 11:16 AM |
The opening shots of the judges make me laugh. They’re all putting their modeling pout faces on. This show is a shadow of its former self…

I would love Iman as a judge.

Why did Elaine hate Aaron's design so much?
Is it because he's white?
I find her "judging" to be suspicious.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 19, 2022 12:02 AM |
Excellent season and Seriano is great and I loved Tim but he actually gives excellent advice
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 19, 2022 12:03 AM |
Christian is a lot more fun as a mentor.
He also doesn't get fall down, rip-roaring drunk the way that Tim used to.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 19, 2022 12:05 AM |
Christian gives really specific advice. Maybe too specific.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 19, 2022 12:39 AM |
I think that may be true but he seems fair and unbiased with his advice
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 19, 2022 2:28 AM |
That “black girl magic” outfit was more voodoo than magic. That raincoat was the only good thing.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 19, 2022 2:38 AM |
I do agree that Elaine had something against Aaron. However, he did not seem to care that much for her either.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 19, 2022 10:48 PM |
Aaron (from West Virginia) looks like the type to use the N-Word quite liberally.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 19, 2022 10:55 PM |
Aaron was tiresome. Glad he’s gone.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 20, 2022 2:30 AM |
What does Brandon do in the world of fashion? Is he really famous?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 20, 2022 3:24 AM |
Coral’s model looked like a drunken Kesha who stumbled out of a goth-inspired party at 4 a.m. It was just weird—I agreed with the judges that the outfit felt mismatched to the model’s hair and was surprised that Coral didn’t get the axe.
Christian gives a ton of advice! He’s very hands on with advice compared to Tim Gunn (but Christian is very hands off with the hugs—he doesn’t give the ousted designers hugs unless they force it and he’ll do a half-assed one). But his feedback is usually spot-on.
Maybe I’m in the minority here, but I thought Coral deserved to go and Aaron deserved a second chance based on his consistency and overall work. He’s annoying as hell, but Coral is sort of a one-note designer with her macrame obsession.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 20, 2022 4:19 AM |
As I said on the other thread NOBODY could have designed an outfit to flatter that horrible hairdo on Coral's model. Interestingly, she was the only white model.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 20, 2022 4:23 AM |
[quote] Coral’s model looked like a drunken Kesha who stumbled out of a goth-inspired party at 4 a.m.
Specific and not inaccurate.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 20, 2022 5:11 AM |
Aaron has a lot of skill but he’s spent all his business life catering to southern women who want to look beautiful but not necessarily cutting edge fashion. It’s hard to switch gears.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 20, 2022 5:20 AM |
While I understand the big model may be hard to design and fit, that is something those of us who are not model-sized are fighting for. We also want to look good and just draping lots of fabric is not what we want or need. It is possible for big girls to look good. The designers just need to buy more fabric and work with her figure. She has big thighs, a butt, and a stomach but she also has waist and a big boobs that can be accentuated to look flattering.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 20, 2022 2:53 PM |
The problem is not that the big model is big, but that her proportions are so challenging - big saggy boobs, very short waist, big thighs and butt. Very few silhouettes are going to look good on her.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 20, 2022 2:58 PM |
The problem is that her figure would require more than one fitting if the clothes were to be at all tailored (fitted to the body) and not just draped. I wonder if the mannequin the designer is given for that model accurately represents her measurements and proportions.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 20, 2022 3:05 PM |
I’m a big boned lass. I modeled a bit in Midwest and it’s absolutely not fair to give waif model models to some. Check the past results because the designer with the big model always is in bottom due to fit issues. It’s completely ridiculous to not give all the contestants like models. PERIOD it is my main criticism of this show.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 20, 2022 4:54 PM |
I’ve said the same thing, r28. Part of the woke identity is equity, and this woke version of PR should employ this notion of equity in giving all the designers the same sized models, be they waifs or full-figured…
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 20, 2022 5:00 PM |
The thing is that big models need more time and most likely more fabric. You can make a top or bustier for a thin model without using any boning (saves time), but for big women with big breasts? Boning has to be added, and it has to fit. That alone would require a fitting on its own. It would be much fairer when contestants were able to sketch first, meet their models to take measurements (that matter to the designer's design) second, and then go to Mood.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 20, 2022 5:01 PM |
What they should really do is have a challenge in which all the designers are given plus-sized models.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 20, 2022 6:44 PM |
Exactly, R31.
Either all plus-sized, or all normal sized.
It's completely not fair to mix it up.
I'm curious to see who's going to get Chrissy Metz tonight.
We can probably kiss them goodbye.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 20, 2022 6:50 PM |
Is everyone getting a chance to work with her? If so, I think that's fair.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 20, 2022 7:11 PM |
It’s the multiple rolls of back fat jiggling as she walks that get me. ugh. I know they’re trying to show off how “inclusive” they are but give me a fucking break.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 20, 2022 7:42 PM |
How dare you!!! Her back fat is beautiful!!!
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 20, 2022 7:51 PM |
It’s not the amount of fabric so much as it is the amount of understructure needed. The woman needs the kind of bra that costs $$$ to get the proper lift. Her clothes then need to be tailored and that involves more than one fitting. None of this one day crap. I don’t know how they could give her designer extra time though.
Or the producers could buy her a corset and insist that she wear it when she comes in. That is half the battle done right there.
Have they done a challenge where every model is plus size? The problem with that there are so many shapes. Hourglass if youre lucky, but big boobs/smaller hips; apple shaped; hips/butt bigger than boobs…the latter two are very difficult to style.
When the show began, the models weren’t paid, they got **exposure**. What a rip off.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 20, 2022 10:25 PM |
What was the bullshit about the big sized model not showing up with a bra to a fitting? I smell sabotage!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 20, 2022 10:40 PM |
Even if all the under structure is done to perfection, a plus sized model will not look as good or as elegant as a traditional sized model in clothes. When first seeing the garment worn, a subliminal judgment is made, and how the model looks and moves figures into that judgment. Is PR a show about couture design, or about mass appeal and salability and making everyone feel good?….
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 20, 2022 10:45 PM |
Well, there’s been a long history of “the winning design will be sold on JC Penney/Amazon/whatever.com” which means mass market which means a full range of sizes.
It’s a reality show with next to no credibility on 7th Avenue. Everyone knows that. If there truly is a budding YSL graduating from school in NYC, he or she knows to avoid the show like the plague.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 20, 2022 11:04 PM |
Doesn't PR also have some pretty invasive stipulations in their contracts where designers have to give the production a cut from their sales (because the show gave them a platform to promote themselves and their designs)?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 20, 2022 11:09 PM |
I believe the plus-sized model showed up in one of the super stretchy tops with built-in support that act like a sports bra. So she wasn't exactly braless. And anyway, even if she'd worn a bra, when one has those size breasts, different bras are needed under different garments....so her own bra might not have been much help. It's very complicated. Nothing that can really be solved in a one day challenge with only one fitting.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 20, 2022 11:14 PM |
She is clearly an issue for designers, R41.
This woman doesn't belong on the show.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 20, 2022 11:17 PM |
Totally agree with points above. Rather than have the token +size model in every episode, do a few where all models are +, to even playing field.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 20, 2022 11:21 PM |
I vaguely recall there was a past season (while on Lifetime) where they introduced a plus-size design challenge. But at some point they decided that approach was other-izing plus-size women. That’s when they started using models of all sizes.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 20, 2022 11:32 PM |
If their garment was sold online, I’m pretty sure they don’t get any money. PR “owns” all the outfits made on the show. The first season, the reason Jay told them to piss off was because the contract said the show owned his *future* designs as well. It was changed after that.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 20, 2022 11:56 PM |
[quote] PR “owns” all the outfits made on the show
So when the guest judge sometimes asks if they have have/wear the designer's outfit, is that just all bullshit?
Because sometimes the designer will tell them, "Yes, of course!"

Yeah, that male model in the challenge where the fat girl designer quit... he was really hot.
But kind of bitchy.

The clothes made for men on this show are almost always universally awful.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 21, 2022 12:28 AM |
Everyone complains about the lack of a level playing field due to the plus-size model. Doesn't the production team give a shit? They should.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 21, 2022 2:16 AM |
I think when the challenge is “dress a celebrity for X event”, someone remakes the outfit in their size. Heidi did wear one of Mondo’s designs right after he lost to Gretchen. To me it looked like the dress he sewed on the show because it was too tight for Heidi.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 21, 2022 2:18 AM |
[quote] Everyone complains about the lack of a level playing field due to the plus-size model. Doesn't the production team give a shit? They should.
I'm pretty sure that production actually uses her when they want to eliminate a certain designer.
They know that designing for her is the "kiss of death," so she is a convenient tool used to help production.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 21, 2022 2:20 AM |
I doubt they wanted to get rid of Kristina. They’ve let her skate by a few times with questionable looks.

by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 21, 2022 3:32 AM |
Ha! Chastity made the worst dress but no way was Elaine letting her get the boot. Sorry Bones!
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 21, 2022 3:39 AM |
I agree, r56, but it looked better in the photos, which was the point of the challenge. Bones’ dress looked really bad in the photos.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 21, 2022 3:45 AM |
Bones' dress was a disaster on every level. He strikes me as someone who has purposely avoided formal schooling in dressmaking and tailoring because he thinks it will rob him of his "individuality." But his craftsmanship is severely lacking and does him in every week; he has great ideas but doesn't know how to execute them with any skill. There's always just a lot of fabric (often ill-chosen for the job) clumsily scooped around the model's body. He's really lucky he lasted as long as he did.
But he does have a gorgeous body. What is that thing on a black wire coming up his treasure trail to his chest? Is that part of a health condition or a mic?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 21, 2022 3:53 AM |
Chantall again comes through. Not only was the dress incredibly photogenic but she made the simple yet brilliant choice of the red ladder to go with it which gave the model something she could really use (as opposed to a plastic garbage bin....duh!). And then there was the red EXIT sign - was that just luck? Even keeping the model barefoot seemed like just right choice.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 21, 2022 3:57 AM |
I have been pretty underwhelmed by most designers these few past seasons, but I really believe she’s one of the best designers ever on PR. I can’t imagine she doesn’t win, unless she somehow chokes.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | January 21, 2022 4:35 AM |
It is unfortunate that Bones did not listen to the advice both Coco and Christian gave him repeatedly. Refine the dress. It was truly the best thing he designed but as usual he went for tasteless drama and theatrics .
by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 21, 2022 9:15 AM |
Bones knew that production would never let him advance to the final four, and he even said it at the end.
C'mon. We've all seen Project Runway many times. They can edit it any way they want, to fit their narrative.
And the narrative this season is an ALL-FEMALE final four. We could see this weeks ago, and have repeatedly mentioned it in the Part I and Part II threads.
Because if it was a truly fair competition, then Kristina and Chasity would have been in the bottom.
Bones' garment was gorgeous. Even Nina said so, and I felt that way before she even voiced her opinion. I also found it interesting that she said it was his most sophisticated look of the entire season, but it was "too little, too late."
WHAT? I thought each designer was judged week-by-week, and not on their body of work??? Here, she actually acknowledged that he did good work, but he still had to go home. That's bullshit.
Kristina's prop was the perfect choice. She chose a garbage bin, which is exactly where her hideous paper pants should have gone. Same for Chasity and her cheap dress.
And I find Shantall annoying. She seems very entitled.
Not only that, but she's also a "ringer," if you know what I mean. She was already on Project Runway Latin America and made it to the finals.
That is SO not fair, because it's like she went through the process once already, and this is a second chance for her. No one else in the competition had this much of an advantage.
The funny thing is you'd never know she was previously on Project Runway, because they NEVER mention it. Hmmm... I wonder why?
To me, the "sleeper" is Coral. Her designs are quite beautiful and unique.
I think it'll come down to Coral or Kristina. Next week's preview makes it clear that they're looking for the "next big thing."
That's definitely not Chasity. Her designs have already been done a million times before. Same for Shantall, except that her skills are better than Chasity's.
The only ones left who are truly innovating are Kristina and Coral. Bones was innovative, but he didn't fit the narrative, so he couldn't stay.
That said, I like everyone who's left, so I won't be disappointed, no matter who wins.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | January 21, 2022 9:30 AM |
Chasity is definitely out next week.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | January 21, 2022 10:49 AM |
I was actually pretty sure Chasity would go until I saw the photo Bones picked. To me, it was by far the worst of the pics. I truly think if he had picked something else that maybe elongated the look, he would have stayed. Kristina’s photo—even though the outfit was meh—was better, as was Chasity’s. Kristina’s design actually looked pretty great to me in the photo, even with the crinkly pants (but minus the trash bin!).

R62 Spot on.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | January 21, 2022 1:24 PM |
Christian has a very entertaining After Show in which he chats with the losing designer for the week.
This week he selected his favorite photographs from all the designer photo shoots and he was spot on, especially in respect to Coral’s best photo. I think she would have won if she had selected it.
I think Christian will be a worthy mentor to Bones. They started out rocky, but both seem to be in a good place of mutual respect. Bones did throw some shade on Shantal saying she presents herself one way on camera and one way off camera, but he picked her as the winner.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | January 21, 2022 6:55 PM |
Coral should have won. She actually understood the challenge and that color just popped against the industrial background.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 21, 2022 7:51 PM |
I think the plus sized model is a disaster. The black plus sized model was fine, and she looked good in some of the outfits on the runway. Why didn't they keep her and get rid of the other?
by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 21, 2022 8:18 PM |
I like Shantall. She will cut a bitch and yet turns into a total mess when her kid manages to say "Mommy!". I like her Latin tenacity, or passion if you will. Is she calculating? Maybe, but she says it herself: She's in it to win it.
It's never a good sign when a designer is finished early. Both Bones and Coral were finished early (helping Chasity) and Bones was sent home and Coral lost to Shantall (who didn't get any help from the other designers).
Don't have a clue about the fashion industry, but I loved the guest judge and model Coco Rocha.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | January 21, 2022 9:00 PM |
I loved Coco too. She's beautiful and what a good model. I'm sad about who was sent home. It's going to be a snooze in the workroom now.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | January 21, 2022 9:15 PM |
Bones explained in the aftershow with Christian why they did not help her finish her garment. She's a two faced bitch...Bones was not here for her at all. Bones and Christian have good chemistry...it was a good interview.

Not complaining but why did Bones keep taking his shirt off? Make it make sense..
by Anonymous | reply 72 | January 21, 2022 10:34 PM |

Just a guess.....
by Anonymous | reply 73 | January 21, 2022 11:02 PM |
I watch the those instances of Chantall being supposedly aggressive or less warm and I think: GO GIRL! Great to see some real seriousness of purpose and someone who understands why she's there and how to win. She never seemed to be hurting anyone, just simply not giving in to other's weaknesses and whininess.
I think she's Jewish btw. I'm Jewish and I noticed a tiny gold Jewish star on a chain around her neck.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | January 21, 2022 11:06 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 75 | January 21, 2022 11:45 PM |
R74, I feel ya but then Chantall whines about no one helping/liking her. I am also a bit upset to read she is a previous Project Runway contestant. She definitely has an advantage over the other designers.

by Anonymous | reply 77 | January 22, 2022 1:34 AM |
I have watched every season of this show, and I *sort of* follow fashion, but I really didn’t know who Coco Rocha was, even though I’ve heard the name. What a model! Sometimes I roll my eyes when people talk about modeling being some sort of “talent” but that woman truly has a gift. She made those clothes and photos look great.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | January 22, 2022 1:35 AM |
Yes! It was fascinating listening to her question the designers and formulate how to best pose to show off the gown. The contrast between walking the runway and a still editorial photo. She did the show once before, in the Gretchen-Mondo season and it was basic mall clothes for the Gap and it was still so interesting how she elevated the dress. They need to do this challenge every season.
Bones. I came around to him in the end. I actually liked his gown, gorgeous color, and I have NO idea what that fabric was. First he said it was fur, then it looked like top-stitched fringe, and during the judging he said it was brocade. I even understood his reasoning, that the others were going for flow-y trains/capes—very cliché—and he wanted to do something twisty with her upper body. He just couldn’t manage it (and what was that horrible denim? The color didn’t work with the gown at all).
Shantall, her inspiration was PASSION and she made a red chiffon gown. Zzzzzzzzzz. The different shade layers and cutwork didn’t show up at all. She had the most obvious dramatic prop. Going barefoot did show a tiny bit of originality.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | January 22, 2022 2:33 AM |
This episode yeah we learned that they picked Shantall last and wouldn't help her. The threat.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | January 22, 2022 2:58 AM |
Shantall chose her prop last, and made the best of it - unlike the others.
I predict that Chastity is going to win. Taste issues aside, they will claim that hers is "a voice that needs to be heard in fashion now."
by Anonymous | reply 81 | January 22, 2022 3:18 AM |
I'd forgotten Chantall picked her prop last! That just shows the ignorance of all those designers who passed on a 10ft. red A frame ladder, clearly the right choice for this photo challenge. I'd like to think Chantall would chosen the ladder even if she chose the first prop. Her dress and photo looked like they could have been created by Richard Avedon and Audrey Hepburn in a Funny Face moment.
And now, after watching this episode, I finally comprehend the fashion term "Editorial" which Nina has used incessantly since Season 1.

I still think it's not fair that Shantall has been on Project Runway before.
She was on Season One of Project Runway Latin America, and placed THIRD.
Shantall had her shot already, and lost.
She should have been on an All-Stars cast of Project Runway, and not on a show with first-timers.
And even though she already competed on Project Runway Latin America, she STILL got chopped midway through the season, at which time Christian Siriano used his "save" on her.
Tell me how this is not rigged in her favor?

R91, it is not fair to the other designers. I was actually picking for her but now feel the whole thing is rigged including her elimination which I disgreed with at the time.

I don’t think Kristina wins. She and Katie just did a video chat on Instagram and she wasn’t talking like someone who’d won a big cash prize. She was talking about doing a new collection and how to find a manufacturer and fabric and it sounded like she was doing it on her own. I only listened to a minute or two of the 45 minutes. Also I think she had Covid around New Years.
So I say Shantall wins. I don’t think Chasity can pull out of her daughters’ Disney Princess fantasies.
Oh, both Katie and Kristina said they’d never seen the show before competing on it.

Shantall is on a winning streak. Above all, she is a shrewd businesswoman. Nina loves her (fellow Latina). Unless a Freaky Friday thing happens between her and Chasity, Shantall should be the most obvious winner of a PR season ever.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | January 23, 2022 6:58 AM |
So you all seem to think that Coral will leave in the next episode?
Probably so. but I'd rather see Coral's collection than Chasity's.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | January 23, 2022 2:14 PM |
Coral and Chasity are both hit or miss. But when Coral misses she really misses.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | January 23, 2022 4:18 PM |
See now, I would say that about Chasity more than Coral, r101. Coral's designs are far more sophisticated than Chasity's and are much better tailored. Coral's craftsmanship is far superior. I think Coral's biggest problem is in not always understanding the challenge.....as if she's never seen Project Runway before.

I don't know who Coco is at all. But damn. It's interesting when you see a pro model compared to the amateurs they use most runways. The difference is ocean size.
I don't even think Coco is that beautiful. She's just has It for days.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | January 24, 2022 9:43 AM |
I also really appreciated hearing Coco's take on the designers' work and their behavior in the photo shoot. Wonderful to see how she tried her damnedest to make every outfit work to the best of her ability but then hear her informed opinions.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | January 24, 2022 2:36 PM |
Coco would make a great host. Naomi receives quite a bit of hate here but she truly understands fashion and haute couture. She can intelligently dis uss her thoughts without having to rely on the snark. Coco also has this understanding.

Naomi?
by Anonymous | reply 107 | January 24, 2022 4:33 PM |
I thought Naomi was great on that other show. (and I don't remember a lot of people dissing her, most people were surprised how good she was.) And Iman was a fantastic host on Canada Project Runway.

Not only a gay, but a leather queen, drugged up, meth head fisting queen gay.

by Anonymous | reply 113 | January 25, 2022 3:39 AM |
I thought Coco was faintly ridiculous on The Face. Even though dealing with Naomi Campbell must have been truly exasperating. Coco seems to have matured a lot in the past 8-9 years, judging from her guest spot on Project Runway. Maybe it was having the baby Christian referred to?

Kristina sent a bra and one sleeve kimono down the runway.....again. I like Coral’s the best.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | January 28, 2022 3:05 AM |
Chasity’s is poorly constructed. Either she’s going home or the judges will pull the old ‘we just can’t make a decision’ and they’ll all go through but one will be cut before the runway show.
by Anonymous | reply 125 | January 28, 2022 3:15 AM |
Hah Nina just repeated what I said at r123. Coral so far stands out. Shantall’s is not great! But Chasity was worse so Shantall will make it through.

I hated Kristina’s look. It’s like she threw a bag of rags at her model and sent her down the runway.

Chasity just spilled her guts on the runway. She will NOT be going home.

Oh. What a surprise. NOT.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | January 28, 2022 3:46 AM |
I decided earlier in the episode that unless one of them sent something atrocities down the runway they would keep all four.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | January 28, 2022 4:08 AM |
Didn't we all, r131? I also thought alternatively that the 4 of them would be sent back to the workroom to design another look - they really should have.
I thought this was one of the worst runways of all time. Coral's was pretty but a little costumey. The other 3 were wretched.
What happened to Shantall?? Why is she so obsessed with flat untextured white fabric? That suit would have worked so much better in a brocade or at least a fabulous color. It looked very unfinished and I didn't get at all how it was NON-binary? The jacket and peplum were totally feminine. Puh-leeze.
Chasity again showed her Disney princess aesthetic with a wicked fairy tale queen look. Or maybe a Rockette at the Tony Awards look? Ice skating queen? You just know the judges didn't really like anything about it but couldn't go there with her crying on the runway. Sweet girl but NO TASTE.
And Kristina! I've been off and on about her all season but this last look was like a showcase for everything she did wrong all season. Those fabrics looked like percale sheets gathered and tied together. And the jeans?? Way too oversized, very clumsy and clunky.
That Kloss girl as judge was too undiscerning. She had nothing to say but simpering raves about everything. No critical eye whatsoever.
And what was that waste of time in the beginning of the build where each designer was fawned on by the white lady and the black lady? All they had to say was be yourself and be your brand.
Well, I'm looking forward to the finale anyway and, despite tonight's runway, fully expect Shantall to win.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | January 28, 2022 4:29 AM |
I thought it was Shantall worst design. With her having the help of a seamstress I expected something more polished.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | January 28, 2022 10:36 AM |
Both Chastity's and Shantall's looks were dated, particularly the shoulders and peplum, respectively. Kristina's was kind of a mess. The cotton fabrics looked cheap and there were too many things flying about. I liked Coral's the best, but would have preferred it without the neckpiece.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | January 28, 2022 12:55 PM |
Kristina's outfits remind me of the cut out patterns in old McCalls magazines. Why would anyone buy her outfits? It looks like it takes 12 people to dress you! When Elaine says she "liked the sneakers," that's all you need to know about that outfit. They were an accessory and not hand made.
I know Chasity's wasn't groundbreaking but I did like it and it was well constructed, from what I could see. I even liked Shantall's peplum jacket but I'm not sure about the pants.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | January 28, 2022 1:33 PM |
Shantall's design was non-binary!!! That's all you need to know.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | January 28, 2022 3:28 PM |
I knew as soon as they made the announcement about having all women semi-finals that they weren't going to send anyone home, especially when the worst outfit, by Christina was praised to the heavens (Well, sure, why not, she won for the same outfit on the fat girl when it really looked bad!) And what a surprise that there's an all girl finale, when the panel were the ones who chose them.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | January 28, 2022 5:18 PM |
Can anyone explain to me what was NON-BINARY about Shantall's outfit? Other than the transperson wearing it?
No?? I didn't think so.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | January 28, 2022 6:38 PM |
Definitely not impressed by any looks except Coral’s. I thought Chasity’s was the most boring but the rest were all so blah.

I adored Casity’s look!
by Anonymous | reply 140 | January 28, 2022 7:01 PM |
Shantall SAID the outfit was non-binary, which was apparently enough as no one questioned it.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | January 28, 2022 7:53 PM |
I’m so over Chasity and her bedazzled cutouts. Kristina and her random swaths of draped fabric too. And when did the judges start “YASS KWEEN! Werk!”ing during the runways?
This show sucks.

Since they had models as guest judges.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | January 28, 2022 10:06 PM |
Shantall has done beautiful work pretty much all season, but I haven’t been impressed the last few weeks. Btw, does anyone know if they’re doing two finale shows like before? Or is the finale next week?
by Anonymous | reply 144 | January 28, 2022 10:19 PM |
With four finalists, I bet they do two shows or one expanded show.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | January 28, 2022 10:21 PM |
What’s the policy on non-binary nipple. Is that allowed? Because you could definitely see it. And I can’t believe she wasn’t called out on that. If it was an actual woman, it would have been an elimination.
Not to mention a trans woman and a non-binary model in the top four fashion show. Talk about taking over womens spaces.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | January 28, 2022 10:37 PM |
One 2 hour finale episode next week. Just put the show out of its misery.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | January 28, 2022 11:19 PM |
Chasity's was really pretty on the runway but once she said she does bridal her whole vibe makes sense.
Kristina's was terrible. I thought she was on to something for a minute with mixing patterns but she's repeating herself. It didn't make sense as modular to me either.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | January 29, 2022 3:05 AM |
I've always liked Coral. She could work on her use of color but she's good. I don't think Shantall's completely came together this week. It looked a little complicated for no reason.
by Anonymous | reply 149 | January 29, 2022 3:07 AM |
I was genuinely shocked when Christian was trying to explain to Kristina how all-American the blue gingham of her ensemble's (one) sleeve was and he didn't mention Dorothy's dress in The Wizard of Oz as a reference. I mean, I know she grew up in Russia but.....still.
Or am I just showing my age?
by Anonymous | reply 150 | January 29, 2022 3:49 AM |
I was shocked that Kristina didn't know that gingham was used for tablecloths and picnic baskets. I didn't believe her for a second. She seems... off. I've noticed she is rude to the Mood employees. Maybe it's a cultural thing?
by Anonymous | reply 151 | January 29, 2022 8:53 AM |
Chasity, Coral and Kristina are all just one trick ponies. Most every runway has been a version of the Disney Princess, the macrame schtick or the assymetrical wrap around. Shantall is no design master, but she's a wild card and has shown a little imagination and willing to expand her vision. Plus she said the magic binary word. Although, I don't see how a real woman with tits could wear that thing she sent down the runway.
I think it comes down to Coral Vs Shantall. If Coral could move beyond the macrame princess warrior thing or if Shantall does something out of left field, either one could win.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | January 29, 2022 11:54 AM |
Who says "You've centred the nonbinary body" while looking at a flowing sidecut pant and a peplum jacket?
by Anonymous | reply 153 | January 29, 2022 2:34 PM |
These are all garments made in one or two days. It will be interesting to see the clothes when they have five months to complete. Design capability and work ethic should be more apparent then.

Did they have any menswear challenges this season? I don't remember any.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | January 29, 2022 4:53 PM |
[quote] Just put the show out of its misery.
This season was actually good, until they decided to force the all female finale, just so that they could say "For the first time in history, we have an all female final four!"
That's so lame, and actually quite out dated.
Project Runway tries to be the wokest of the woke, so why is it still pushing the old idea of "female power?" I thought that everyone is trying to move beyond the concept of gender?
To date, I don't think that Project Runway has had a trans contestant, so they're really not all that ground breaking, are they?
[quote] I've always liked Coral. She could work on her use of color but she's good.
Coral has always been on our radar since the beginning of the season. Even though she was quiet, we've always like her designs.
I think she might win.
[quote] Did they have any menswear challenges this season? I don't remember any.
Yes, I think it was the second episode.
The one where the big girl had a meltdown, and quit the show. She and Darren were fighting over the male models.
Anyway, I like Chasity and Shantall, but both of their designs bore me. I feel like I've seen Chasity's gowns and Shantall's pants suits a million times before. Nothing innovative at all, about what they do.
However, I actively dislike Kristina's designs. They're just awful and have no shape. It's always a bunch of mis-matched and random patterns that are tied and thrown together like a bath robe. Blech.
Finally, I have a real admiration for Christian. He really knows his stuff. I noticed how when the designers try to explain what they're doing (in a long-winded way), he cuts right to the point.
I've learned that most designs follow a certain template, and employ particular techniques, and Christian knows every single one of those templates and techniques. So even before the designer explains what they're doing, he knows exactly what they're doing, and that's how he can give such an informed critique.
I forgot that during his season, he was only like 24 years old but had already been working for Alexander McQueen in London, so Christian really knows his stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | January 29, 2022 6:22 PM |
Yes, that runway was wretched. I think Coral is getting bad advice when they praise her macramé. There’s really nothing more that I want to see from Coral. I wish Anna had stayed in her place. Her last couple runways were not good but if she’d snapped out of it, her looks are more elevated.
Shantall—there’s a reason that they showed her first look, the pink suit with the woven sleeves, and told her to edit. She tried to do something equally elaborate and ran out of time. She could’ve left off the sleeves if that would’ve meant more time to fix something else. The slits in the bodice showing a nipple = no biggie. Models walk a runway half naked all the time. The peplum was the real drawback, so dated. Still, this is hers to win.
Kristina, I think she is listening to them too literally and it could be a cultural/language thing. She’s hearing show us your brand so she’s giving them an amalgamation of her designs on the show, her greatest hits. If a designer strays too far from that, they get the ol’ We don’t see you in this design.
I rarely like what Chasity sends down the runway, her personal style is more interesting. Hoping her final collection is more casual Her vs pageant evening gowns. Best advice for her is NO gowns, do street wear.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | January 29, 2022 7:21 PM |
Those complaining about an all female finale? Please tell me you don't think Bones deserves to be there! If anything I might have switched up Chasity with Aaron but I don't feel very strongly about either of them.
I wish Shantall would use her black straw dress (from the Unconventional Challenge) as the basis of her final runway collection. That outfit was the most gasp-inducing ensemble I've ever seen on PR.

Aaron wasn't "next in fashion". Actually, none of them are, except maybe Kristina. After lockdown and social distancing (giving us Gays an excuse to lounge at home in our best International Male leisure wear), I think streetwear, going out and mingle, might be the next big trend being pushed on women and (gay) men again. And she has enough of a point of view to create stuff most people don't have in their closet already or had no desire to have in their closet before, but once you are pushing it as a trend, people tend to buy it.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | January 30, 2022 6:58 AM |
The weird thing is, Chasity delivered a very good street wear look. It was the “pandemic loungewear to now we can go out” challenge. Yet when she has the chance, like in this last episode, she does another Disney gown.
by Anonymous | reply 164 | January 30, 2022 3:18 PM |
Chasity's gowns bring out the worst in her "aesthetic". Too much time previously spent designing neighborhood wedding and prom gowns.
But, at least, if she chooses to go back to that kind of career, it will hopefully be helped by the attention she's gotten on PR.

by Anonymous | reply 167 | January 30, 2022 3:59 PM |
KKK's only contribution was to fawn over every outfit thereby keeping the other judges' criticisms at bay. It was the worst runway show with the least amount of criticism.
I think when Brandon was seen getting up off his stool and conferring with the judges it was about him relaying that the producers were throwing in the towel, these designs are all awful - let's just send all 4 off to the finale and be done with it.

I didn't know how much I appreciated Michael Kors until he was replaced by the Zac "Get your hands off me now, Bitch!" Posen
It is so cringey and creepy in the close-up judging how he approaches each model with both hands out and gropes them all to "feel the construction"

Josh Kushner is always reported to be liberal and Jared Kushner is always reported to be evil.
Josh and Karlie live in a $42.5 million penthouse in a Kushner-owned buildings. They live like the Trump family lives.
Jared Kushner has starred in headlines about being an evil slum lord who kicked families out of their apartments during the pandemic and who has been fined by the city of Baltimore multiple times for keeping his poor residents living in unhealthful environments.
Jared Kushner is a partner in his family real estate company. His partner is his brother Josh. His brother Josh is actually the company's principal, the one who administers it and makes the decisions.
Joshua Kushner is a slumlord who evicted families during the pandemic, but news stories only ever mention Jared's name. When they do discuss Josh, they always call him the bleeding-hearted liberal. Oooookie dokie.

See "key people." Josh is the principal director and Jared is the president. It's another version of the Trump family, complete with a corrupt criminal father and adult kids who make hundreds of millions off the backs of other people.
Karlie is such a cute little democrat, just an ordinary girl from Missouri who wants nothing to do with those rotten Kushners and Trumps! (As long as her fortune keeps growing and she has the penthouse with a private elevator.)

R183, You must have missed the episode when the designers had to find inspiration from Red Robin's bottomless fries. I still laugh about that one. by Anonymous | reply 187 | January 31, 2022 5:57 AM |
Does anyone know where I can find season one? I LOVED Jay’s designs and little doll man Austin Scarlett’s over the top couture designs…and remember Wendy Pepper? And the models were trainwrecks and were in a competition, and one of them got wasted and tore Austin’s dress before the runway show! They also had Michale Kors being bitchy about the drop crotch pants “the poopy pants look is SO TIRED.”
How can we watch this masterpiece season again?
by Anonymous | reply 188 | January 31, 2022 6:39 AM |
Preach it, R181.

Dixie Cups was the one that really weirded me out. It was dedicated to the 'iconic' pastel swishes on the side of the cups you spit into at the dentist's office. How was that not a joke?
I believe the worst product-placement episodes were during the Lifetime years.
Runway was a creation of Bravo at the tail end of Bravo's original era as a channel dedicated to arts. It was about fashion design. For Lifetime, it was about snatching up a popular reality show and squeezing all the profits out of it that it could.
People like to trash the contestants and say they aren't real designers, etc., but I see a lot of talent in most of them. That was not true throughout many of the Lifetime years, though. It felt to me like the network either didn't get or absolutelt despised fashion and was making a mockery of it. Bravo has always taken a serious and respectful approach overall. The lady at the beginning of this season who stitched together confetti-colored mop strips notwithstanding, Bravo's version of the show is a major improvement.
I am vehemently anti-Kushner and would not have watched another season with her because she's a hypocrite who has convinced progressive people she is one of them while her fortune grows on the backs of poor people who live in her husband's slums—and yes, photos show she does pal around at exclusive events with Ivanka and Jared. But even I have to admit she was a decent host when her personal life is removed from the equation. Bravo knows what it is doing with the show. I wish they'd do more talent-based competitions and less reality shows based on idiots getting drunk and humiliating themselves.
by Anonymous | reply 190 | January 31, 2022 12:31 PM |
I'm sorry, but I don't think the talent is there on the new BRAVO seasons either. Maybe you get one or two great designers per season, but it is rare that they stay on, because of the stress of the competition is taking its toll. What you are left are great seamstresses who manage their time well, but lack true vision for great design and future trends. But then that's what the CfDA is for, I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 191 | January 31, 2022 12:38 PM |
Season 1 is on Daily Motion. Not the best resolution but still viewable. Episode 6 is when the model went out clubbing in Robert’s (?) swimsuit outfit and ripped it. It was a very sleazy episode.
Interesting to watch because Heidi didn’t have all her canned remarks down pat yet. She’s a bit tentative when talking to the designers.

by Anonymous | reply 193 | January 31, 2022 12:39 PM |
WHat I remember is that Heidi was HORRIBLE on that first season, stiff and robotic; so bad, I almost didn't watch the second. But she must have seen how bad she was, because she came back as almost a different person entirely, and was quite good from then on.

[quote] To date, I don't think that Project Runway has had a trans contestant, so they're really not all that ground breaking, are they?
Yes they have. And we got to witness her transformation when she came back to All-Star fully transitioned.
by Anonymous | reply 195 | January 31, 2022 1:57 PM |
Heidi had a "Me Tarzan, You Jane" grasp of English during the first season. You can tell most of her vocals were re-recorded later in a studio, with a vocal coach working overtime.
One word she had trouble with throughout the entire time she hosted is OPPORTUNITY
by Anonymous | reply 196 | January 31, 2022 7:36 PM |
Morgan was the crazy, destructive model. The designers loved her walk and her energy but, after the swimsuit incident no one wanted to work with her. She was a mess.

How could it be language barrier when even Coral didn’t help Shantall? That told me all I needed to know.
by Anonymous | reply 199 | February 3, 2022 4:37 AM |
I love Christian but he gives too much advice. Would that painted dress by the Haitian and Chasity won, had he not told them to have the tentacles flow down onto the dress? He tells people that something doesn’t look good, so do this kind of sleeve or make shorts, etc. Some people who are still here would’ve gone home sooner had he not intervened. His help is just too specific.
by Anonymous | reply 200 | February 3, 2022 5:38 AM |
r199, I think it's pretty clear even for Coral that Shantall is going to wipe the floor with them if she is in the final three. And she's a meek follower, not a leader.
by Anonymous | reply 201 | February 3, 2022 6:24 AM |
I have a feeling that if Chasity delivers a collection of elevated "street" wear like she was told, then she will win. On the other hand, she relied more than anyone on advice from Christian, so will be interesting to see what she comes up with without him around.
by Anonymous | reply 202 | February 3, 2022 2:02 PM |
In this last episode, Chasity asked the two women for advice and said she wanted to do streetwear. So what does she make for the challenge? Another dated looking gown. The bridal/prom genes are hard to kill in this one.
Gowns have a built in market but each one is a one-off with very picky customers. Streetwear, you can produce a line in different sizes (also it’s oversized so fit is less of an issue) and customers buy it off the rack. More startup costs though. Daniel from one of the early seasons is producing on-demand in the Dom Rep. Pretty smart.
by Anonymous | reply 203 | February 3, 2022 3:07 PM |
The thing is that, while judges and mentors push them to try new things, it's a terrible idea to do new things on a time limited challenge where so many things can go wrong, and you end up sending a hot mess on the runway which can get you eliminated. I mean, sure, you can fake it like establish your signature brand first and then pretend to step out of it and do something "new and fresh" which you already know how to make in a short period of time and wow the judges with something unexpected from you. But never ever try to do something that is completely out of your comfort zone. But then, you should be able to do pretty much anything on the fly when you apply for a show like Project Runway.

I also would have given the win to Coral. She had the clearest point of view and her execution was as impeccable as Shantall's. Plus Coral had a really cute son. Chasity can at least console herself with her hot fiancé.

Shantall who placed 3rd-runner up on Project Runway Latin America Season 1, actually won Project Runway US in her second time in the competition??
I'm shocked!
But confused. Why did they never mention that she was on Project Runway Latin America Season 1?
Hmmmm, I wonder...
by Anonymous | reply 238 | February 4, 2022 8:09 AM |
So....
Coral's collection was clearly the best. Everyone thought so, and she was the only designer to receive a standing ovation. That said it all.
I actually liked Kristina's collection. As expected, it was way out of the box, but much more beautiful than the shit she put out on the show. Clearly, having more time did her some good. I actually thought she had a chance at winning, if Coral didn't win.
Chasity. Poor thing has no taste. She made slutty showgirl streetwalker wear. Chasity never should have been in the finale. At least Bones would have made an interesting collection. But of course, there HAD to be an all-female finale, so that they could say "For the first time in history, we had an all-female finale!" Yawn.
I agree with everyone who said that Shantall's collection was frumpy. Not only that, it was boring. I think they actually caught one of the other contestants just about to yawn, during her show. I don't blame him. There was nothing in her collection that was modern, or even slightly interesting.
Once again, the judges got it completely wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 239 | February 4, 2022 8:14 AM |
Are we unanimous that Coral should have won?
by Anonymous | reply 240 | February 4, 2022 8:19 AM |
I think so, R240.
By the way, should Chasity have been insulted when Tommy Hilfiger said that she should be a costume designer?
It certainly wasn't a compliment.
I mean, after seeing her collection, he equated it with costume design. I know I would have been insulted.
But he wasn't wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 241 | February 4, 2022 8:25 AM |
I put Shantall just slightly over Coral. Both collections were beautiful. I came away thinking the models with the major boobies looked so wrong on a runway, especially the ones that Chasity dressed. Enough with this inclusive bullshit.
by Anonymous | reply 242 | February 4, 2022 8:58 AM |
Tommy has completely given up on fashion. All he does each season is put out the same cable knit sweater in different colors, with different color trim and t-shirts with the same cut but different colors, and blouses in different plaids, year after year after year. This is the lens through which he was viewing the runway.
Plus, Shantall’s aesthetic came the closest to his.
Also, the fat models must go.
Chasity did better in the competition than her final which was tragic from the styling, to her choice of models to her sheep leg pants. It’s a shame, because I really like her and she does have talent.
It was a good finale because they all were really different.
by Anonymous | reply 243 | February 4, 2022 10:34 AM |
Watched the finale last night and the only collection I can remember this morning is Coral’s. Her last look was stunning. I think they should have brought Christian in as a fourth judge.

[quote] Chasity did better in the competition than her final which was tragic from the styling, to her choice of models to her sheep leg pants. It’s a shame, because I really like her and she does have talent.
I agree that she does have talent.
Chasity talks a big talk, but unfortunately, she still doesn't know who she is.
When Christian went to visit her at home, she was absolutely clueless about her collection. That's because she still has no point of view. And it showed that she was lost and confused, because she had no work done.
Chasity told a story, but her collection looked nothing like that story. So what did she do about it? Defaulted to her pageant and prom dress background.
The reason that Chasity did well during the competition was because she had some guidance from Christian, and rules for each challenge. Without that, she wouldn't know what to design.
If anyone could have used that CFDA mentorship, it's Chasity.
She should go to fashion school just for the mentorship and counseling.
But she should also see a therapist for whatever issues are holding her back. Obviously, her suicidal thoughts during the pandemic are symptoms of a larger problem. And I say this, especially in light of Cheslie Kryst's unfortunate suicide recently. She was another bright light with a big smile and a great personality, who was masking something very dark on the inside.
I like Chasity so much, but she has a huge block in front of her that she needs to get rid of.
by Anonymous | reply 245 | February 4, 2022 2:25 PM |
I couldn't bear listening to Tommy Hilfiger and his crass opinions and hated the way Brandon and even Nina didn't seem able to disagree or have a genuine conversation about aesthetics with him. Suddenly the competition was all about his him and it became a very bizarre and unfair end to the season.
Did Christian do an after show? I can't imagine what he thought.

by Anonymous | reply 252 | February 4, 2022 6:00 PM |
Do the designers who appear on the show have a sign-your-life away contract with production like contestants on "Idol" and "Drag Race" do? Maybe that's why they kept focusing on sale-ability because the producers then own a piece of the designs?
What the fuck was so important that Elaine skipped the finale? Her ass should have been there.
I didn't see fat bra under tank top contestant who stormed out (don't care to try to remember her name) at the finale...
by Anonymous | reply 253 | February 4, 2022 6:17 PM |
When I first saw Coral's collection at her home, I thought she was the one to beat. But on the runway, I did find Chantall's collection to look more cohesive and elegant and was happy she won. That said, I thought, dramatically, Christine had the best presentation, with the way the models dealt with each other as they pealed off, and that music. It was mesmerizing. (Still would love to know what it was...tried to use Shazam, but it didn't know.)

They watched her throughout the competition, they knew what her strengths and weaknesses were, they understood her vision. It's shocking how a single judge, who likely hasn't seen the entire season, no matter how famous he was, could do such damage in the finale.

It just proves that the season was set up for Shantall to win.
But Coral was a surprise.
Anyone with eyes could see that her collection was the best.
However, the decision was already made in favor of Shantall, and the producers were going to stick with it no matter what.
This show really is a farce.

She probably thought Coral should win like all of the other contestants.
The cast really did feel something off about Shantall for a while. You could tell the other contestants bonded more. Even in the finale I saw more bonding between Kristina/Chasity/Coral. Kristina really took to Bones and Chasity the last few weeks. I thought it was cute when Bones was cheering for her and she went to hug him. Coral being the nice girl she is was trying to be nice to Shantall but she clearly clicked with Chasity/Kristina/Bones more as well.

You would almost think the finale was sponsored by Kohl's the way they let Tommy blather on about what would sell the most units. If that was the criteria, I wonder what changes the designers would have made or what changes Christian would have suggested.
Chasity was clearly waiting for Christian to arrive to give her direction. It's not like she's untalented, but Disney/prom/bridal is really her wheelhouse.

Coral was robbed.
Shantell looked ridiculous in her own dress. She was drowning in it! Lame boxy 80s jackets? Bad costumes for some 80s power suit video. Ok, the pattern was kind of cool. I liked Hilfiger pointed out it could be a repeated signature theme across collections. Think about it though: she got the intertwined pattern from hanging out with CORAL. Some of the iterations involved separate strands... like, I don't know, macrame?

Yes, I now am seeing that the entire season was probably pre-planned, calculated, and manipulated. Even down to Shantall’s “elimination” and save. It just happened to give her the perfect “comeback” story. And they wouldn’t give Coral any win throughout the season to manipulate viewers and think Shantall was the clear justified winner. It looked like Kristina and Chasity were upset that the judges never really gave Coral her due win.
The contestants caught on to what was really going on.

[quote] The contestants caught on to what was really going on.
It's so interesting because so many of the contestants seemed very defeated when they got eliminated.
And yet none of them seem surprised.
That was definitely another tell-tale sign.
When Bones got eliminated, he said something to the effect that he already knew he was going to get eliminated, and Kristina looked at him sternly and said "No we didn't!" or as if to say "Keep fighting!"
It was a weird moment.
by Anonymous | reply 289 | February 5, 2022 3:14 PM |
Hilfiger's judging was interesting because he looked at the clothes in terms of salability which is his right and due. It reminded me of how little it comes up in the challenges and how light the critiques really are.
We hear Chasity tell Christian that she sees herself in her clothes. No customer then? They corrected it by having Chasity introduce her final collection with a line about 'I hope you can see yourself reflected through me' or something like that. Uh huh.
It's a TV show and some of these people are not the next star designer.
by Anonymous | reply 290 | February 5, 2022 3:20 PM |
[quote] But what would the incentive be for the show to basically hand the win to Shantall?
The narrative was already set.
An historic "All female final four, for the first time in history!"
That's number one.
Secondly, I believe that she's the first Latina winner ever on Project Runway.
Interestingly, Coral would have fit the bill. But I think that the producers never saw Coral as marketable. She's quiet, shy, soft-spoken, and her English isn't very good.
Shantall on the other hand, is loud, brash, her English is decent, and she's already semi-established in Latin America.
When the judges kept repeating "global appeal," I think what they really meant was marketing to Latin America. And Shantall was already well known to them, thanks to her previous stint on Project Runway Latin America.
Now they want to try to market her to North America and Europe.
I really think that's what this was all about.
Coral is just a small designer from LA.
Did you see Shantall's corporate headquarters when Christian went to visit? She's clearly already established.
Coral was designing out of her tiny house in LA.
It's so jaded that the show would choose someone who is already established, over a truly unknown designer like Coral.
And it plays right into the story Coral was trying to tell. That Latinas who look like her (more indigenous looking) get passed over, in favor of the more European looking Latinas (like green eyed Shantall).
This basically just proved her point.

R290
What? They literally told Chasity to put more of herself into her designs. That was the critique she was trying to follow.
by Anonymous | reply 292 | February 5, 2022 3:23 PM |
I'm not blaming Chasity and I like the idea she could do red carpet looks but the show is more interested in 'self expression' than business.
by Anonymous | reply 293 | February 5, 2022 3:24 PM |
Of course, there's nothing "wrong" about Hilfiger's POV, it's just that marketability had never been a real part of the judging until the finale. So, in that sense, it seemed very unfair. As I said upthread, if Elaine had been a judge the outcome might have been very different.
by Anonymous | reply 294 | February 5, 2022 3:25 PM |
I got ya R292. Maybe I was thrown because it wasn't framed as the clothes Chasity was wearing. The judges wanted to see her clothes.
by Anonymous | reply 295 | February 5, 2022 3:27 PM |
r291, brilliant assessment except didn't Shantall say there wasn't room in her home to have a studio so PR set her up at a nearby university? That space was not her "global headquarters."
by Anonymous | reply 296 | February 5, 2022 3:28 PM |
"corporate headquarters" that is.

[quote] Did you see Shantall's corporate headquarters when Christian went to visit? She's clearly already established.
Meh. That looked like a nice commerical warehouse type building. It's possible but it could just mean she has enough backing (husband?) for an office space.
by Anonymous | reply 298 | February 5, 2022 3:31 PM |
What sort of backing would she have? The clothes didn't pay for the space. I've seen NY designers people have heard of launch from much more modest digs.
by Anonymous | reply 299 | February 5, 2022 3:43 PM |
[quote] What sort of backing would she have?
Oh, I don't know.
Maybe the kind of backing that can help Shantall put out a full collection at Miami Fashion Week?
I mean, seriously. How could the producers not know that Shantall's career and past Project Runway participation isn't all over the internet?
by Anonymous | reply 300 | February 5, 2022 3:47 PM |
Fashion is a bad financial gamble. There's only so much between dress shop and LVMH.
by Anonymous | reply 301 | February 5, 2022 3:48 PM |
It’s hilarious to me that the only person they could get to rave about Shantall’s collection was Gina from RHOC. That said a lot to me as well.
by Anonymous | reply 302 | February 5, 2022 3:52 PM |
Shantall is also already somewhat of a celebrity in Latin America.
I can't help but think that Coral already knew who Shantall was, and she probably told everyone else.
This reminds me so much of those Latin American beauty pageant contestants who are hand-picked as the winner BEFORE the pageant, because of their family connections.
And backstage, all the other contestants know exactly what's going on but they can't do anything about it because the winner is well-connected.
It's the same thing.
by Anonymous | reply 303 | February 5, 2022 3:54 PM |
I thought Shantall said that it was some sort of school that gave her space to work in. Maybe she had a connection to it? Though in retrospect, it seems odd that she didn't already have a studio if she already had a brand.

Didn’t she have a sob story earlier in the season that her employees were cut during the pandemic?

by Anonymous | reply 310 | February 5, 2022 8:01 PM |
My own ranking was: Coral, Kristine, Shantall, Chasity.
None of the collections were particularly bad (allthough I think Casity's collection has a very limited demographic - stars in need of a red carpet look). I thought Hilfinger's criticism of Kristine's collection made no sense. Who would expect any designer to stick with a print for years? Has Kristina specifically told the judges that she intends to make the print her signature look? The whole point of collections is to give the customers something fresh and new, including new prints for each year or season. It's like the judges were grasping at straws to find reasons not to give her, or anyone other than Shantall, the win.
I like feisty Shantall, but her collection seemed a bit dated. I could see drag queens wearing some of the fashions to impersonate Alexis from the original Dynasty. Perfect for any Spanish telenovela. Lots of boss bitch drama, lots of attitude. But I loved the long black dress. While simple, it seemed effortless and luxurious and imho it fit the model perfectly.
Coral's first and last look were quite impressive. And I liked her collection in general.
I am surprised how much I like Kristina's collection it had a cool flowy Bohemian vibe. And she pulled off the hoverboard stunt. Her final dress reminded me of what Björk is wearing on her Homogenic album cover.
by Anonymous | reply 311 | February 5, 2022 8:20 PM |
Actually it was strange that the model wearing Shantall's beautiful long gown wore any underpants (which were seen from the rear view). It's not like the model had to quickly change backstage into other outfits.
by Anonymous | reply 312 | February 5, 2022 10:45 PM |
I think Kristine should have been allowed to show titties if she wanted to. Ain’t no straight men watching.
by Anonymous | reply 313 | February 5, 2022 11:17 PM |
My guess is that Shantall rubbed a lot of her fellow contestants the wrong way. I hear the criticism of the 80's thing but still think it was the best of the bunch. I think Chastity only made it through to keep a black girl in. Her collection was awful for the most part. I really hoped for something better from Kristina since I really liked a lot of what she did this season. Coral had some really great pieces although I don't get the love for the zippered pieces which looked cheap to me.

You could see the model’s underwear for Chrissakes! I may not be a fashion expert but to me that doesn’t say “perfect fit.”

I dragged my way through the first eight or so episodes and then gave up. Wasn't impressed with any of them and sick to death of hearing all the same comments from the judges. Not to mention the 'woke'.
Plus I realised that it was much more entertaining to read the commentary here. Didn't take as long either. I think I'm done with Project Runway. I do like Christian but that's about it.
Unless they do something drastic to change the show (and keep Christian) I think the programme is well past it's sell by date.
Thanks for the commentary!
by Anonymous | reply 317 | February 6, 2022 2:01 PM |
Christian definitely is the highlight of the show. I thought this season he especially bonded with the contestants. That said he was definitely in on the fix. I too wonder if this is why Elaine was a no-show.

Yes, those last few interviews really bothered me. He was basically gaslighting Bones, Kristina, Chasity and Coral and pretending he didn’t know what was going on, why they were upset, and why they felt the way they did about Shantall.

I don’t agree about the Chasity part. I think they could see that she’s going to go places and that celebs will love her. Coco Rocha was really in love with her and said she was her favorite to work with.
And yeah, I do think she could design for Disney as well like Kara Saun.

by Anonymous | reply 325 | February 6, 2022 9:17 PM |
All of the final collections were disappointing. I can't believe that Chasity thought a black and purple Mardi Gras collection was in good taste, or even remotely high fashion.
by Anonymous | reply 326 | February 6, 2022 10:47 PM |
I never realized how commercial and already set Shantall was when she started. I don't approve of this kind of setup. This has the major potential to work against all the other competitors. It was like the fix was in from day one. I thought this show was about the unknown, new designers without this kind of background history. I don't expect a completely level playing field, but I do expect that competitors should be coming in without a major professional history like hers. This makes a joke of the competition.

I’m not quite done but I do skip the drama and product placement, and ff to the runway show.
by Anonymous | reply 328 | February 7, 2022 4:11 AM |
No, I much prefer the semi-established designers who are really looking to publicize their own dressmaking business vs the unknown recent graduates who faint at the thought of prints.
Prajje has been around for a long time. Aaron has his own business. The issue I have with Shantall is that she competed in PR South America or whatever it was called. All the versions follow the exact same format so mentally she was much better prepared. She should have been selected for All Stars, not compete against this group. It’s interesting that they stopped talking about her previous experience after the first couple episodes.
by Anonymous | reply 329 | February 7, 2022 4:23 AM |
Why is everyone going off on Shantall’s previous experience - ON A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE SHOW - when they’ve had former contestants return to another season of the same exact show? That whiny girl with the long hair who was married to someone in a famous rock band comes to mind.
by Anonymous | reply 330 | February 7, 2022 4:53 AM |
Because different language or not, the format is the same. Also it is not like she was eliminated early in that competition, she made it to final three. That definitely gave her an unfair advantage over the first time contestants. Also none of the publicity that I have seen mention this fact. So I believe it is smells of a fix.
by Anonymous | reply 331 | February 7, 2022 5:39 AM |
The whiny girl also made it to the final three on her second show
by Anonymous | reply 332 | February 7, 2022 11:33 AM |
That’s true, I forgot there have been other frequent flyers. Amanda I think her name was. Also Daniel V came back for another chance.
by Anonymous | reply 333 | February 7, 2022 12:53 PM |
I get that being on the Latin America version gave Shantall an advantage in understanding how to budget her time. But there can't be a designer on the planet at this point who doesn't understand how the show works in terms of challenges, etc. I don't think she was judged unfairly through the show, Both Kristina and Chasity could have been eliminated at several points in the competition and weren't. Was that unfair? While I would have preferred Coral to win, Shantall did send a credible collection down the runway. Her win isn't as egregious or perplexing as say, Gretchen's or Ashley's.
by Anonymous | reply 334 | February 7, 2022 3:17 PM |
R334, you must work for the show.
Because your explanation is cheap and you seem to mistake us all for fools. Shantall had a CLEAR advantage, no matter what ridiculous justification you come up with.
And if the show didn't think anything was wrong with Shantall's participation in Project Runway Latin America, then why did they NEVER even mention it ONCE on the show? Because they knew it was fixed, and they knew it gave her an unfair advantage, and they knew people would be upset about it. So they decided to hide it from the viewers.
[quote] Daniel V came back for another chance.
Wrong. It was Daniel Franco.
And he came back a second time because in his original season, he was eliminated on the FIRST SHOW for making some kind of paper cutout design.
So they brought him back in the next season because they felt bad for him.
The show never made it a secret, and he had ZERO advantage, because he was the first to be eliminated in his previous season.
You're drawing a FALSE EQUIVALENCY, because Shantall made it to the Top 3 on Project Runway Latin America.

Ah. Calling someone a Republican. The default insult when you can't back up your argument. "I can't refute what you said, so you must be a Republican."
The FACT is that Shantall appeared on Project Runway Latin America, Season 1.
The FACT is that she made it to the final three.
The FACT is that the show never once mentioned this little tidbit.
The FACTS are all on the internet, for everyone to see.
Now where are YOUR facts, you stupid cunt, R338.
But by all means, just call me a Republican again, since you have no defense.

Maybe then you’ll get the response you seem to be seeking. But, really who can tell what you want since you are a deranged mess.
by Anonymous | reply 341 | February 7, 2022 7:10 PM |
OMG r335. I’m not any of the recent posters but I also think you are a bit unhinged and obsessed with antagonizing Shantall. I’ll start by saying I also think Coral should have won, but the whole PR Latin America Advantage is a bit too much. You scream that the comparison with Daniel F is FALSE EQUIVALENCY (your own unhinged all-caps), but how about Amanda? She made top three .
by Anonymous | reply 342 | February 8, 2022 4:17 AM |
[quote] how about Amanda? She made top three.
Another false equivalency.
Amanda was brought back by the show, as a gimmick.
They were completely up-front about it, and they did it right in front of the other contestants.
Same thing with Daniel Franco.
In both instances, the show didn't hide anything. Rather, it was supposed to be a "twist." Lame though it may be.
In Shantall's case, the producers were very sneaky about it. There wasn't a single mention of Shantall's participation in Project Runway Season 1, nor of her third place finish. Not ONE mention of it.
I don't know if the other designers this season even knew that she was a former contestant on Project Runway. But as I mentioned before, Coral probably knew that she was, and that's why as the season progressed, you could see the other designers start to shun her.
They clearly knew the fix was in.
But the real bottom line here, is that the entire thing stinks. It was shady, manipulative and deceptive.
by Anonymous | reply 343 | February 8, 2022 7:00 AM |
It was mentioned that Shantall was in PR LATIN AMERICA (a detail you just omitted yourself, r343) Season 1. She brought it up herself.
by Anonymous | reply 344 | February 8, 2022 10:07 AM |
I don't see it as an unfair advantage, Shantall being in a PR from a different country. An unfair advantage would be if she knew about all the challenges in advance and plan accordingly (like, being the mole in "The Mole" and sabotage the other players). Project Runway has been around long enough for contestants to know what is expected of them and certain challenges can be expected (like the unconventional materials challenge, avant-garde, or group challenges).
I love Christian, but he is very hands-on with the designers and their creative directions. He practically takes them by the hand and leads them in the right direction (at least that's how the edit makes it look like). At least his favorites (like Chasity). The times of Santino being encouraged to present a hilarious lederhosen lingerie line for Heidi, and defending his designs against Nina's criticism, are definitely long gone.
by Anonymous | reply 345 | February 8, 2022 11:47 AM |
Yes, Christian is much more specific than Tim but I don’t mind since it usually results in a better design. In the real world, any type of design can be improved with the right feedback. Of course there are always contestants who have their own vision who are impervious to his advice.
by Anonymous | reply 346 | February 8, 2022 2:30 PM |
Christian did seem to have a connection with Chasity. They were genuinely having fun. I'm not sure that makes his input for her a lot better. She still has to design and make the clothes.

by Anonymous | reply 352 | February 8, 2022 9:21 PM |
But why would ANY designer repeat their prints the following season? That's a totally bullshit criticism.
Fair criticism would have been of Shantall's repeated (ad nauseum) motif of that twisted snake. Why didn't Tommy go after that?

I guess I’m in the minority when I say I thought Kristina had the most creativity in her collection by far. She went outside of her box and gave the judges something new and different.
Hilfiger and his “prints go out of style” diatribe annoyed the hell out of me. Would Kristina suddenly lose her ability to create new prints after a year or lose her ability to design something new? Wtf. Duh, you make a collection every season. His words were nonsense.

I don’t know why people are counting Chasity out. I think she will be one of (if not the) the most successful designers of the season. Especially when she already has people like Coco Rocha and Karen Huger in love with her. It’s not solely based on designs, people just love to be around her.
