Summer of 85

Wow! What a wonderful gay-themed movie.

It's on Showtime this month, and I honestly didn't know what to expect.

The actors in this movie were incredible. Not only because they were so young, but because they were so convincing!

The story was excellent (although endings are always difficult for writers, this movie included).

The two leads were very handsome. Félix Lefebvre was such a cute twink, and although it took me a little bit to appreciate Benjamin Voisin's looks, by the end of the movie I was smitten!

I'm so proud of these two French actors, because they were amazing. Better than any American actors in their age group.

Unlike most gay-themed movies, this one had so much heart and emotion in it.

If you get a chance, please watch this movie. It's so worth your time.

Félix Lefebvre is absolutely adorable.

I love how they didn't show anything more than kissing, but you could feel the intense intimacy.

Felix and Timothee.

Who would have thought that Timothee wasn't the twink in the photo?

Damn no sex scene? Just kissing?

by Anonymousreply 3January 6, 2022 7:36 PM

I found it to be very sad and depressing. Once again in movies with gay people, somebody's gotta die.

by Anonymousreply 4January 6, 2022 7:38 PM

Any of Ozon's flicks are worth a look.

Surprisingly, SUMMER OF 85 is not autobiographical, even though he was 17 in the summer of 1985.

by Anonymousreply 5January 6, 2022 7:39 PM

Yes, R3.

The movie was very explicit when the Alex character states that what happened between he and David in the bedroom was private.

Hey, I like some hot man on man action, just like the next guy.

But I actually appreciated how it was handled in this movie, because it kept the focus on the story (unlike CMBYN).

Thank you for mentioning that R5, because it was the first thing that crossed my mind at the end of the movie.

Beautiful movie.

I didn't understand why the British girl was in the movie, though.

by Anonymousreply 8January 7, 2022 1:56 AM

They’re white and l not trannies, so the left will go apeshit.

by Anonymousreply 9January 7, 2022 2:19 AM

I bet the same middle-aged creeps who drooled over Love Victor will be watching this shitfest. Move on, guys. I'm sorry you didn't experience something similar when you were young.

by Anonymousreply 10January 7, 2022 2:35 AM

The two actors in this movie were absolutely incredible. Especially considering how young they are.

They put so much emotion into their performances, and I was completely blown away.

These guys had an intensity and chemistry that you don't see in veteran actors even twice or three times their age.

This is by far the best gay movie I've ever seen.

by Anonymousreply 11January 7, 2022 10:24 AM

It was a Chicken Francese recipe acted out as a sex drama .

Great film. I think perhaps Ozon's best to date.

by Anonymousreply 14January 7, 2022 11:16 AM

Must it also resemble a gay-themed movie of the ‘80s?

by Anonymousreply 15January 7, 2022 12:31 PM

R13 is a cynical cunt.

by Anonymousreply 16January 7, 2022 7:38 PM

Here's Felix's fartbox on display

It's on Showtime again tonight (late night).

I plan to watch it, just for Felix and his fartbox.

by Anonymousreply 18January 8, 2022 1:24 AM

Felix has a very nice fart box.

R15 Yes, because it based upon a book published in the 1980s.

Is Francois Ozon gay?

I think he's attractive.

by Anonymousreply 22January 8, 2022 11:46 AM

Yes, he is gay. But he was younger on your photo. Very handsome.

by Anonymousreply 23January 8, 2022 5:15 PM

The two lead actors are both very handsome.

At first I thought the blond was better looking, but by the end of the movie, I was really attracted to Benjamin Voisin.

He's not classically handsome, but he's sexy as fuck.

Is he gay too?

They're still doing the "dead homosexual" trope?

by Anonymousreply 25February 19, 2022 10:34 PM

After reading the plot synopsis, I have no desire to watch this. I'd rather not watch something where I know someone will die.

by Anonymousreply 26February 19, 2022 10:48 PM

The best gay French films are Wild Reeds (1994) and Come Undone (2000).

by Anonymousreply 27February 19, 2022 10:50 PM

You're quite a snowflake, R26.

by Anonymousreply 28February 19, 2022 10:51 PM

I liked "The Innocents." That was a French mini series.

by Anonymousreply 29February 19, 2022 10:55 PM

What was up with the creepy mother undressing the friend?? Is that a French thing?

by Anonymousreply 30February 20, 2022 10:06 PM

I am really tired of all gay films ending up in traged. We deserve happily ever afters also!. It was a pretty good film though but the ending was hasty and the cross dressing part was unnecessary.

by Anonymousreply 31February 22, 2022 10:15 AM

The Chris guy (who punched Alex at the carnival) is super hot, I was hoping Alex would reconcile with him at the end and they would end up together (instead of with that drunk guy) He is a rapper in real life. Hottest rapper on earth?

I really hate that Rod Stewart song, wish they picked something else.

by Anonymousreply 33February 22, 2022 10:26 AM

I’ve been in a quandary about watching this movie. It is based on a YA book that dates back to 1982 that is the second novel in a six sequence of books that is the magnum opus of the British writer Adrian Chambers. It was a revolutionary book when it was published at its time and highly regarded. While it seems obvious why they didn’t keep the title for the movie adaptation, in some ways it feels like a bit of a betrayal. This book was very important to me at the time and I have fond memories of it.

Benjamin Voisin has a classic chin.

by Anonymousreply 35February 22, 2022 10:41 AM

Benjamin Voisin looked aged appropriate for his under 18 virgin bottom twink, unlike Armie.

by Anonymousreply 36February 22, 2022 10:57 AM

Thanks for sharing, R32.

He has a beautiful smile.

This movie played this past weekend, and I fell in love with it all over again.

Felix is so adorably cute and Benjamin is so sexy.

Ozon cast two perfect young actors, and they are both so GOOD at acting. So believable.

This is truly one of the best gay themed movies I've ever seen.

There's nothing else quite like a French twink.

A French twink with a nice ass, R39.

Reminds me how much I liked the two French twinks in "I am Jonas" as well. They, too, were excellent actors.

This is one of my favorite scenes from the movie.

Felix Lefebre is so cute!!!

His dancing is just adorable.

by Anonymousreply 44June 12, 2022 11:14 AM

This scene right here is why I think both Benjamin Voisin and Felix Lefebre are exceptional actors.

Benjamin is only 24 here and Felix is only 21, but the passion and the emotion that they both show here is just spectacular.

I don't know of any American actors in this age bracket, who could even come close to delivering the same type of performance.

Just watched it…actors were great. I didn’t connect it with the book Dance on My Grave. I know I read that in high school but don’t remember the story.

by Anonymousreply 49June 12, 2022 9:21 PM

"I am Jonas" destroyed me. I was not prepared for that type of story and didn’t read the synopsis before watching.

by Anonymousreply 50May 2, 2023 1:53 AM

Very YA. Just like the novel.

by Anonymousreply 51May 2, 2023 2:04 AM

R45 that's the French language and culture. French people and the spoken language take pains to SOUND harmonious but deliver surgical, precisely aimed, intimate messages - like they are scripted. And a movie is scripted of course. But they aim for it all the time.

by Anonymousreply 52May 2, 2023 2:06 AM

This looks really good! I was a gayling of 14 in 1985 so the trailer brought back many nice memories of the time. I'll watch this tonight. Thanks OP.

by Anonymousreply 53May 2, 2023 2:13 AM

I just finished it. I guess it was good. The leads were strong. It did feel like a complete piece of work which is satisfying in a movie (many feel over or under done). Not sure I’ll watch it again though.

by Anonymousreply 54May 2, 2023 2:26 AM

The twink/heartbroken lover comes off super creepy in the end. Like, predator vibes.

by Anonymousreply 55May 2, 2023 3:11 AM

Do you think David and his mother were bipolar? I sense some mania.

by Anonymousreply 56August 15, 2025 8:37 AM

Looking at the trailer and it shows there's way too much drama.

by Anonymousreply 57August 15, 2025 9:29 AM

[quote] Do you think David and his mother were bipolar? I sense some mania.

No, I think they were both just in grief.

David's father died only about a year before the movie takes place.

From what I could tell watching the movie, David became rebellious and his mother became withdrawn and depressed.

They were both very happy when Alex came along, because he brought joy back into both of their lives.

They even made plans to include him in their business and probably more.

And then, of course.... BAM!

by Anonymousreply 58August 15, 2025 9:52 AM

[quote] I found it to be very sad and depressing. Once again in movies with gay people, somebody's gotta die.

Look at it as the exposition of a cad, or a commentary on bisexuality.
