Dionne Warwick's moody and lightly funky 1970s cover of the 1960s R&B hit 'I Can't Wait Until I See My Baby's Face' has been on CONSTANT rotation lately!
Miss Warwick's entire "Then Came You" LP was an excellent offering that deserved more success outside of the title track.

They sound very inspired by post-punk bands like The Raincoats and The Slits but have a B-25 quirk to them as well. Very No Wave, Surf Rock, Post-Punk.
I love them.

It's been receiving frequent plays from me over the last few months. Miss Trent preformed it in Mid-60s, Beat Ballad style and drained every once of soul & emotion she could out of those lyrics. I love Fiona Apple, R172. She was a recent recommendation from a friend who always seems to know what I might like. I mean, I know of her hits from the 90s, but I hadn't dug deeper.
Currently, I am loving current French electronica. Polo and Pan, Bleu Toucan and L'Imperatrice. Upbeat chill is what I have wanted to listen to. Also in the category is a group from the '60s and early '70s, The Friends of Distinction. I had never heard of them and Apple Music slipped them into a playlist. I am fairly obsessed by the lush sound and mostly upbeat feel. I love discovering new music. There is also another playlist on Apple Music called Strike A Pose. It's gay-oriented dance and can be silly fun. I listen sometimes on the drive to work to put me in a good mood. Crank that UP!

“When The Levee Breaks” is a powerful, thought-provoking and emotionally-charged classic by Led Zeppelin, from their Led Zeppelin IV album. The song is a rework of the 1929 original release by Kansas Joe Mccoy and Memphis Minnie about the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927; the most destructive river flooding in U.S. history. Legendary multi-instrumentalist, John Paul Jones, is accompanied by Stephen Perkins of Jane's Addiction, Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks and over 20 musicians and dancers from seven different countries, in this Song Around The World version featured in Peace Through Music: A Global Event for the Environment.

Yeung from AllMusic said "Four years after their painfully hip debut, Confident Music for Confident People, Australia's Confidence Man amassed even more of their titular surety, letting their guard down and fully embracing their dance roots on the celebratory Tilt. While the devastating cool of their first album made it feel like trying to get into a club with a high cover charge, Tilt throws the doors open and invites everyone to the party, going full-bore on a collection of '90s house-indebted thrills that uplift listeners to another plane of pure euphoria.”

I was singing "Groovy Kind of Love" to myself when I happened upon this thread. I don't know why. I'm not in a state of grooviness with anyone at the moment. Maybe wishful thinking with Dead Boy Snatch, about whom I was just reading. Who can say?
And it's the version by the Mindbenders I was singing, not the Phil Collins desecration. Cat lovers may enjoy knowing that Toni Wine, co-writer of "Groovy Kind of Love" with Carole Bayer Sager, also sang "Meow, meow, meow, meow" in the Meow Mix commercials for 30 years.

A few months ago there was a thread about songs that make you feel wistful. Someone had posted a link to the song, Cold Water by the Canadian artist, Matthew Good. For some reason I decided to give it a listen. I was instantly struck by how beautiful the song was. That prompted me to look into the album which contained this song. I saw that he did a cover of Cloudbusting by Kate Bush, so of course I had to listen. I was hooked; I am hooked. I'm very lucky to have discovered this genius songwriter with an amazing back catalog thanks to a fellow DLer. Thanks to whoever you are and maybe someone reading this will be inspired to discover a new artist and maybe that artist will be Matthew Good.

A lot of Taylor Swift. Her music really is catchy when you let her in. She really is a story teller so even her more run of the mill pop tunes carry at least a bit more depth to them than say an Ariana Grande or Dua Lipa song, written by someone else.

[quote] The Singing Nun was Sister Luc-Gabrielle (born Jeanine Deckers), from a Fichermont, Belgium convent. Not to be confused with The Flying Nun. That was Sally Field.
[quote] In 1966, a movie starring Debbie Reynolds called The Singing Nun about Sister Luc-Gabrielle was released. The film, which bombed, took great liberties, glossing and dramatizing the real story. In the film, a version with English lyrics that had nothing to do with the original was used.
[quote] After the release of the movie, Sister Luc-Gabrielle left the convent and tried to maintain her recording career, this time under her real name - Jeanine Decker. She became a bit of a rebel, with singles like "Glory Be to God for the Golden Pill," a hymn to birth control. She embraced her lesbian sexuality and was pursued by the Belgian government over unpaid taxes relating to this song (all proceeds from the song went to the order, but she was still stuck with the tax bill). Drug problems complicated matters even more.
[quote] In 1985, Jeanine Deckers and her partner of 10 years, Annie Pecher, committed suicide by overdosing on barbiturates. Their center for autistic children had closed its doors, and they "lost all courage in the face of a losing battle with the tax people."
[quote] The pair were buried together with a quote from this song on their headstone: "J'ai vu voler son âme. À travers les nuages," which translates to, "I've seen her soul fly through the clouds."
