The brief marriages; the longterm one to the closeted Allen Ludden... and no one after that, apparently.
Was she a sister of Sappho?

The NYT obit mentioned that she didn't even mention her first husband's name in her autobiography.

Betty White was a good girl. Enough said. :-)

Why do we think Allen Ludden was gay?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 4, 2022 4:26 AM |
I always figured Alan and she were swingers

Betty was on a list of famous female bisexuals compiled by a man who compiles those types of lists. He did one for famous male bisexuals. I don't know who he is but I remember reading about this from a Boze Hadleigh article. She could have also been straight or gay. Here's something interesting about her late husband Allen Ludden. "Betty White served as Allen Ludden’s beard for years. Like many gay celebrities of his era, Ludden was married with children. And like Robert Q. Lewis before him, he frequently made leering comments about the women on his program to overcompensate. Occasional references to his sexuality made it to air. During a 1967 episode of Password, celebrity guest Betsy Palmer laughed at Ludden’s trademark entrance in which he swished his microphone cord out of the way with great flourish. “I’m just laughing because the way you throw that cord from your microphone, you looked like Loretta Young.” Ludden beamed with delight, “I knew you were going to say that!” Palmer nodded approvingly, “You really look like Loretta Young.” Betty White and Allen Ludden appeared on the game show TattleTales together, in which celebrity couples were tested on how well they knew each other. Emcee Bert Convy posed a hypothetical question: “A perfumed letter in a feminine hand arrives at your house addressed to your husband. It’s marked personal and confidential. Would you open it?” Betty White answered, “I wouldn’t open it because Charles Nelson Reilly gets very upset.” Mark Goodson, the producer of Password, wrapped up their June 1975 season finale by thanking several members of the crew for their hard work. “I want to thank the people who have helped us out … the audience – cause you’ve been marvelous … I want to thank the people at ABC… our technical people who have been terrific … and to Betty White who has helped keep Allen Ludden straight.”

This makes me wonder about Bea Arthur's daily insistence that she have Betty White for lunch.

I have never heard anywhere but DL that Betty White and Allen Ludden were gay.
I have a gay friend who worked on GG who never heard anything of the sort, either.
I suspect Betty never remarried after his death because she was highly independent and her true love was her career.

I was reading the comments on a local (gay) television reporter in a bit of hot water & one commenter noted that the only celebrities who were true to their reputation were Queen Elizabeth & Betty White. What a shock it would be to this individual if the longstanding rumors about Betty White were true.

As usual, nothing but the most accurate, useful information from DL.

No one is safe from DL not even Betty and Allen.
