Brian Orser, Canadian figure skater and coach
He turns 60 today. Highly decorated and successful Canadian figure skater from the 80s - 1987 world champion, 2-time Olympic silver medalist, Officer of the Order of Canada, among many other prizes and honors. The general audience may mostly remember him as part of the Battle of the Brians during the 1988 Calgary Olympics (Brian Boitano being the other half). Publicly outed in 1998 when a jilted ex-lover brought a palimony lawsuit against him.
Currently Orser is a very accomplished figure skating coach having brought 2 Olympic champions to success. He did not age as gracefully but in his younger days he was pleasantly attractive in a twinkish, boy next door way.
Any interesting stories or gossip about him?

Oh wow, 60. How old does that make me?

I think he used to be a fixture at bathhouses here, in Toronto, many years ago but, personally, I don't have any juicy stories since it wasn't really my scene at the time.

As far as hot gay coaches go, I prefer Haguenauer, who is aging like fine wine.

Have any Toronto anons heard anything about Order’s bathhouse activities or seen him in action there?

R1 - true that anon, he definitely did let himself go. Let's take the time to just go back in past and appreciate what a good-looking man he was. Pic related, Brian Orser in 1984.

I love Brian Orser. I can't really explain why, except that he always seemed like a genuinely sweet and personable guy. I remember when he skated to "Story of My Life" by Neil Diamond and it gets me every time.

R8 - That's a great question, they are rumored to have dated but it's all unconfirmed, of course.
How exciting would it be if they went at each other at full speed right after the 1988 Calgary Olympics?

R9 - yeah, he's not too bad if you're into bears, I guess.

I hope he's mellowed now, but when he first came out, he came across as the king of "don't you know who I am?" at gay bars and events in Ottawa and Toronto. He and his posse would swoop in, be rude to staff and be difficult to maneuver around, as they always seemed to be crowded around the service area of a bar or the top of the stairs.

R10 Yes, this is what a lot of fans can attest to. Here is his short program from the 1988 Calgary Olympics, another great performance. Didn't want to post the whole HD Olympic broadcast so here is this old video instead. The costume looks really good on him.

He was best friends with Rob McCall (Olympic Bronze in Ice Dancing) - when McCall was dying of AIDS, Orser was the only one by his side acting as a nurse maid
Not sure if they had a "thing" - but Orser was loyal above the call of friendship with McCall

R14 Thanks for sharing the impressions, anon. I wonder, did he only start having such a diva attitude after he came out in 1998 or was he always like that?

Brian was a cute twink in his Olympic days. Why did he let himself go so much. The other Brian (Boitano) kept skating and is in great shape tonthis day.

R14 Was he also like this at the bathhouses? As one anon mentioned, he was a fixture there.

How does Philippe de Candeloro look? He was quite a good skater, but especially memorable because he used to take his shirt off at the end of many of his routines. Yummmm - back then anyway.

You can easily look up that hoodlum Philippe Candeloro on google. Here is an old shirtless pic of Brian instead.

In 2009, before he hit big success at the 2010 Olympics, and hit the wall for good.
