Beyoncé wants to be the MCU’s “Storm”
She reached out to the head of Marvel, Kevin Feige, to let him know she wants to play the part.
Will he cast her?
Halle Berry recently said she would love to reprise the role within the MCU (and that is possible with the multiverse happening in the new Spider-Man) but only if the script gives her stuff to do.

She looks the part but she can’t act.

No, please don’t let her be in that movie.

If she did get the part, 90% of the film's budget would have to go into endless takes and heavy editing, because she is an atrociously bad actress. Her wooden plank-level performance in Showgirls was rather dismal, but the great ensemble cast made her blend into the background and she only stood out in the musical performances (as a good singer like her would). Also, she is far from beautiful and her personality is shallower than a puddle, so she would end up doing things badly AND still end up being overshadowed by everybody else.
Halle Berry is a good actress, is genuinely beautiful and she can easily reflect the underlying tension and emotional torment that a complex character like Storm needs. The problem with La Berry is that she is a bit too old (she first played the character 21 years ago), and studios are trying to remake all the previous films... I mean, reboot the series for a younger audience who will probably identify much more strongly with Beyoncé.
Or else, they could give the part to Lizzo in order to highlight the character's supernatural powers by showing that they can propel all of that lard through the air. Or why not Cardi B? She is ugly as sin, talentless and retarded, but she has plenty of experience twirling up in the air and wearing... Let's call them "creative" costumes. Still the younger generation idolizes those two hood rats, so they would sell plenty of tickets.

I always thought Halle Berry was miscast as Storm. She didn't have the physique nor attitude for a superhero, IMO, and she was not regal. Storm must be regal! At the time, I was hoping for either Vanessa Williams (second choice) or (preferably) Angela Bassett.

Bassett famously turned it down. Superhero movies were a joke by the mid 90s and 00s.

Berry was fine but she was miscast because of her appearance. Storm isn’t biracial. She isn’t light brown. She’s a black woman from Africa!

Ugh, I could actually seeing them giving in.
They did Storm MAJORLY wrong already with Halle and she's a better actress.

R21, while I do agree with the fact that Grace Jones had plenty of personality and charisma, it's also undeniable that she is mediocre at best as both an actress and singer. I agree with those who say that Angela Bassett would have been the best choice in 2000. Nowadays, R17: Lupita Nyongo would do a very good choice for this unimaginative rehashing... I mean, reboot.

God bless her heart, but Jodie Turner Smith cannot act a good God damn. She is not too little of a dunce if any of her interviews are to go by, either. "Black blonde" is what we call her in my house.
I beg you please stop hearing English accents and equating them with sense and talent having, especially vis a vis U.S racists and heap easily impressed ADOS behind the scensters not wanting to pay ADOS artistes their due and British Blacks, most without the juice that is prevalent in Black people , English , French, Spanish and Portuguese speaking that side of the Atlantic portraying ADOS/African Americans and most of them flopping, not even noticing that Americans move their mouths differently from UK people when they talk.
Only Idris Elba regularly and obviously the Americanized Black British actor Delroy Lindo note this phenomena hence them bringing the culture of emphasis non "loose jaw" , "back of the throat" chat to their playing Americans. Pray God not Jodie , as if America can't find a dark skin ADOS actress to play storm. If the non actress Zendaya can be allowed to flex , there has to be a dark skinned ADOS actress in the wings being ignored., but they didn't seem too hard to find 1930-1999, did they?

There was worse casting in the XMen movies than Halle Berry. Since the first film in 2000 many people criticized Famke Janssen’s casting as Jean Grey. Many found Sir Ian Mckellan to be too old from the start for the role of Magneto. And then there was Anna Paquin, considered one of the biggest miscasting choices ever in a Superhero movie.

Ian was great as Magneto. And i liked Anna too, but she's nothing like the Rogue that i grew up with. Channing would have been a bust if that Gambit movie happened.

[quote] Storm isn’t biracial. She isn’t light brown. She’s a black woman from Africa!
Nerd alert: Storm is an AMERICAN! Born in NYC to a black American father and African mother, hence the name: Ororo MUNROE. Her parents were killed in Cairo, and she grew up on the streets there, then made her way to Kenya, so she does NOT have to be played by an African-dark actress. She DOES need to be played by someone capable of projecting regal dignity, and that ain’t Bey, plus she’s WAY too old.

Storm is African. She is dark-skinned. Halle never fit the role, she was too soft spoken and meek. Not fierce and tough like a storm goddess. Granted, Singer can't write women for shit. Angela Bassett, Iman or Naomi Campbell would have been better at the time. Beyoncé can't act. Never could. She's also too old now. Lupita Nyongo or Teyena Taylor I could see. Halle Berry wasn't great in X-Men 1 but was fine in X2 and X3.
Alexandra Shipp never had the space to do anything.
However, in 2021 going forward when they cast Storm they will either use Alexandra again (which I doubt) or actually cast a dark skinned black woman.
(Although they absolutely better resign Anya Taylor Joy as Magik. She was the only good part of that horrible New Mutants movie.)
It's probably all nonsense anyway. People have been spreading this rumor since she dressed up as Storm for Halloween.

Halle Berry has grown a lot as an actress since she played that role. She also looks fine as Hell. So, I don't think she's necessarily too old at 55, when she looks like late 30s/early 40s. Storm should have a commanding presence, which I don't generally attribute to actors in their 20s, and even a lot in their 30s. I'd love to see her in the role again (provided the writing is good), just because she would bring an even greater depth.
But, I also understand the argument that the role should be cast with a darker complected woman.
