As an adult, I also recognized the horrible arrangements they used.

My great-grandma LOVED this show. She'd watch it every night, and when my cousins and I had sleepovers at her house she'd dance around the living room to the music on the show and we'd all laugh.

R3 did you and our cousins eat her afterwards?

I’m watching trolls

Well, that Heidi girl is no Jo Ann Castle. That's for sure!

Some apprentice cookie smallers there.

Tank you, Tank you. Here are Bobby and Cissy. So there’s no confusion, Cissy is the one wearing the dress.

R4 No we waited until she'd fall over and then take the remote and watch Nickelodeon.

Has there ever been a Lawrence Welk Show gay porn parody?

Velcome to the Lawrence Felch Show

My grandma said watched this trash. It was bizarre to me even then. What strange people. My grandpa preferred Hee Haw, but he always referred to it as the Grand Ole Opry (even though that was another show).

This show was still on in 1980? There was a Welk Resort in San Diego? One of the taller office buildings in Santa Monica in the 90s was called the Lawrence Welk building. Wonder if it's still there.

I’d like to see Tom Netherton naked.

It can't compare to the wholesomeness of this lavender-and-white fantasia!
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 15, 2021 6:27 AM |
Now, R15?
He’d be pretty wrinkly.

The Santa Monica building was headquarters for Welk Inc. My Gran received birthday and Christmas cards from LW for many years. She thought she was his special friend, the dear. Great marketing however.

Poor Santa he is so out of breath while delivering the gifts to the children.

Apparently she was watching it on the television in her head. It only aired once a week.

Not now you wouldn't. He died four years ago.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 15, 2021 7:56 AM |
Ooo, baby, now I really want to see him!

I also thought it was on every night, I had older neighbors in the 1970s who looked after me every so often, and they ate dinner in front of TV which always seemed to have the Lawrence Welk show on.

At first I thought she was the girl from full house, Jodie Sweetin.

R20 They were reruns by the time I was born.

It's 2021 and there are public television stations around the country that still broadcast TKW Show, still air pledge versions of the show and still earn money from the broadcasts. Honestly, I thought the entire audience for the show would be dead by now, but apparently not.
And yes, LKW, Inc did invest in real estate and created resorts people could visit and enjoy performances by TV cast members, and later floor shows re-creating the look, feel, sound of the program.
America - it's big and often weird place, which can be very profitable.

Oops. the first line I typed should be TLW - not TKW. TLW - The Lawrence Welk Show.

Around 5:50, Lucinda Cuesta ROLLS her eyes at her dad.
I'm sure she was spanked for that.

The girl in the thumbnail in OP’s video is actually our dear Cheryl as a young pre-pubescent girl.
My dad used to hate watch Lawrence Welk and I always thought Larry looked like he smelled of mildew and mothballs. Anyone else think that?

Polka gets me HOT

The Lennon Sisters later dished that Lawrence was mean to them. If memory serves, they quit the show.

R29 are you serious? She really is the infamous Cheryl? How do you know?

I get a weird nostalgic kick from occasionally seeing clips from the show because I remember watching it with my grandparents when I was very young. Plus there's a certain amount of unintentional comedy, such as when wholesome Welk singers performed "One Toke Over the Line" in 1971.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 15, 2021 6:52 PM |
Hmmm...Tom Netherton never married. Nice blond.
