Unsung character actors/actresses

Saul Rubinek and Stephen Root are always more fun to watch than the leads.

Delroy Lindo. I will watch something just because he's in it.

Matthew Fox. But I mostly scan for shirtless scenes. I saw one the other day. Unfortunately, he'd shaved his head and looked like nobody.

Frank Sutton (Sgt. Carter), Gomer Pyle, USMC.

Chris Penn (RIP), brother of Sean Penn.

CCH Pounder is great, but I don't know if she's "unsung." She gotten a good amount of praise for some of her work and plenty of awards and nominations.

Matthew Fox is a character actor? Too good looking and too many high profile roles to be one of those. I'd argue not talented enough either, as charactor actors tend to be very talented.

Back in the mid-80s, i had to study poetry in school, & somehow got CCH pounder confused with e.e. Cummings. For the longes time I thought she was a celebrated poetess-actress & never understood why her poetry isn’t more well-known!

Betsy Sodaro doesn't have a lot of acting credits, but she's always hilarious in TV shows that she pops up in and was terrific in the indie movie Golden Arm.

A few years ago, I was listening to the podcast Good Christian Fun. The two hosts grew up in an Evangelical churches and in episodes they talk about and poke fun at various types of Christian media. Anyway, they did an episodes on the movie Miracles from Heaven where John Carroll Lynch played a church pastor. I saw the movie later on and John Carroll Lynch managed to be quite entertaining as a dorky type church pastor.

Yes sometimes she dies in her roles. Face/Off, Orphan, but she has a breadth of work:

Baghdad Cafe, It's Always Sunny, The Sheild, the Navi matriarch in Avatar, Amanda Waller in multiple DC animated series (better than V)

She's also a police chief in my favorite video game from my teens:True Crime: Streets of LA

Just checked. All six episodes of The Corner are on YT. Gritty, but good.

R40 Khandi Alexander played a dominatrix prostitute in STREETWALKIN' which stars DL's favorite Oscar© winning cûnt Melissa Leo.

I really liked Lorraine Toussaint on the Lifetime show Any Day Now. She had a good chemistry with Annie Potts. I hate how that show along with a bunch of other basic cable shows from the late 90s/early 2000s are pretty much forgotten.

Kate Flannery-underrated on The Office. She's always does well playing loving mom types like in Cooties and 4th Man Out.

I don't think Thelma Ritter is unsung exactly (it would actually be impossible - she was great in every movie she appeared in), but she did get nominated for 6 Oscars and never won.

Jayne Brook. She was great at playing bitchy types like in Don't Tell The Mom The Babysitter's Dead. But, she was great at playing characters with some warmth in a bunch of those TV movies she did in the 90s.
