Iconic Las Vegas hotel sold to Hard Rock International, will probably be rebranded
Volcano will be replaced with guitar hotel tower

It will be different than the former Hard Rock in Vegas. The former location was not owned by Hard Rock international (the Seminole Tribe). Their properties are nicer and classier than the old Vegas one was. The old Hard Rock was like a massive Frat party.

Is Vegas in freefall, or are the Flyovers still flocking there to throw away their money?

Is that big guitar thing an actual building or just lights?
I've been to Vegas twice, both times against my will, for work. I've never seen such trashy people everywhere you went in my life. Even the big money types are trashy and the rich women all look like whores past their sell by date.

The guitar is a building, one presently exists in South Florida.

I loved seeing Danny Gans there.. brilliant guy who died too young. It was a nice hotel.

I've spent about a year of my life in Vegas attending tradeshows and doing business, and while I wouldn't live there or vacation there, it's not that bad. The Strip is just America on steroids: trashy, garish, loud and oblivious to reality. It encapsulates the new American dream wherein you get rich going viral, denying the reality that it's all a show and the house always wins. In that sense, turning The Mirage into a Hard Rock rather completes the cycle Vegas has enjoyed so many times.

Mirage basically got out-Miraged by Mandalay Bay which rendered it a second rate version of itself despite being the original. It also failed to anticipate the trend in which the boutique onsite second hotel would be more upmarket (Delano at Mandalay Bay) instead of downmarket (Treasure Island).

I know I'm old when these hotels that visited when they were brand new are being torn down. So many of the places I've stayed in Vegas have been demolished.
