I love trying out lip balms - including Jack Black (squeeze and stick), EOS (dries out my lips more), Carmex, Kiehls (disgustingly smeary), Zum Peppermint (excellent) - and always seem to go back to Burt's original.

Also does anyone like those little tins or short cylinders? I don't get it. You have to use your finger, then your finger is greasy.
(And, finally, try to be adults here.)

Sun Bum goes on really smoothly, not waxy like some. With or without SPF. Just try to avoid some of the sillier flavors. The coconut, mint, and aloe are fine.

I used Kiehls (in the little tub) for 20 years. Then they discontinued the tub and claim the formula in the tube is the same, but it is not. It is far too liquidy. For the last few years I have been using classic Blistex. I have them all over my apartment: my office, my night stand, my dressing room (yes, I have a dressing room), and in the drawer near my entry table where I keep my "before I leave the house" stuff in, meaning wallet, keys, hand sanitizer, etc.

Lip Medix. It's from Blistex. In the blue tub.

I don't understand the little tubs
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 8, 2021 4:40 PM |
The product is softer, spreads easier. Wouldn't work in a stick.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 8, 2021 4:42 PM |
Chapstick is addictive. And it really doesn’t help as much as the types that moisturize. I also use Blistex Lid Medex in the blue tubs. Great stuff.

Well I'm not a daily user. I only need it when my lips are dry, and the analgesic in Lip Medix feels so good I don't care what it comes in.

Burt's Pomegranate is my go-to since Walgreens discontinued its version of EOS that imo was FAR superior to EOS.
Henne is great too, but OP doesn't like the lil' pots.

Carmex in the little pot. (Jesus, you wipe any left over on your fingertip on your jeans or a towel or a kleenex, princess.)

I like Mustela lip and cheek balm for babies. It's in a mini-deodorant type container that pushes up the product when needed. No pots, no mineral oil. Also like Kiehls Buttermask overnight.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 8, 2021 7:09 PM |
O'Keefe's made my lips dry, like EOS does. Weird.

by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 8, 2021 7:18 PM |
I’ve tried them all, and my favorite by far is Lip Trip from Mountain Ocean. It has a lot of beeswax in it (a lot more than Burt’s), so it stays on. You don’t have to use much or reapply often. It has zero shine and the merest scent.
It’s usually only carried in health food stores and it’s hard to find, though.

Aveda Lip Saver is my go-to. Have been using it daily for nearly 20 years. I used to use the same Kiehl's lip balm in the little tubs that R3 mentioned, but once I tried Aveda for the first time I preferred it and it's much easier to carry in my pocket (I never carried around the Kiehl's tubs).
I also like Blistex Herbal Answer as a less expensive option, but it started to become harder to find a while back so I think it's been discontinued.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 8, 2021 10:35 PM |
LMAO,
I can see the tube of Jack Black lip balm on my counter as I type this. It's been my go-to for more than 10 years.
Blistex, Carmex, Chapstick, Eos and all the other cheap drugstore lip balms dry my lips out.

I like a lightly tinted Burt's, forget the color. I have colorless lips.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 8, 2021 10:44 PM |
I don't want color or flavor, just something neutral to prevent drying and chapping.
Lip balm or plain old Vaseline in a little tube is also great for the nostrils when I have a cold with runny nose. Constant nose blowing can make the nostrils raw and sore, even with the softer lotion infused tissues -- I try to remember to apply lip balm to the nostrils after I blow every time and it really helps to prevent that sunburned feeling.

I used to be addicted to chapstick in the mid-90s, I wore it around my neck on a string. The more you use it, the more you need it, your lips stop producing any moisture. I had to quit cold turkey & it was rough (literally). Now I only use it from time to time.

I have loved the dark green medicated Blistex since childhood and I have like 4 tubes of it all over my house. If I were stranded on a desert island, this would be one of the must have items. I think my lips are addicted to it.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | December 9, 2021 5:55 AM |
after several years of breaking out because of lip balm, I tried Burt's Bees milk and almond hand cream in desperation. It is expensive, but it lasts an entire year, and it's far and away better than any balm I ever used. I only need to use it once a day.

Blistex Silk and Shine is the one I keep coming back to over and over.

by Anonymous | reply 53 | December 9, 2021 9:00 AM |
R53 It's pretty much a necessity if you live in a dry, or especially in a cold and dry climate.
Deep lip cracks are painful as well as unsightly.
One of the acccutane skin boards I read recommended recommended pure refined lanolin, which is sold as chaffing ointment for nursing women. Yes, it's titty lotion. Because accutane will make your lips dry like nothing on this Earth.
Refined lanolin is similar to human sebum. It's a bit sticky and messy, it comes in a tube unfragranced. It has no glamor appeal like expensive balms, but one application lasts all day, and keeps lips supple no matter what the conditions. I love this stuff and will always keep a tube tucked away.

I like the Open Nature beeswax lip balm sold at Safeway. Two pack for $1.99, sometimes on sale 10 for $10, but not must buy 10, so you can get a two pack for $1. I used to like the Walgreens brand ChapStick knockoff, but they don't sell it anymore. Top Care beeswax lip balm at Weis is good but hard to find. Also, the Lidl beeswax balm is good and about 69 cents, I think, although it smells funny.

I'm with these two. Reading about all these "addictions' to lip balm makes me wonder what the fuck is wrong with you (non-alpine) people, or with me for having lips that are just fine without frequently repeated slatherings on of emollients.

If you live in a dry climate (I do) and you do a lot of outdoor activities like hiking, biking, kayaking, skiing, etc (I do), your lips will get dry/cracked from repeated sun exposure and/or wind chafing. Lip balms are necessary and not an addiction for me.
