Best Shelley Long Performance?

She's a DL favorite to hate, but what's her best performance?

by Anonymousreply 34December 6, 2021 6:21 AM

Irreconcilable Differences

by Anonymousreply 1December 5, 2021 4:21 AM

Outrageous Fortune.

by Anonymousreply 2December 5, 2021 4:22 AM

Can we include Shelley Duvall movies?

by Anonymousreply 3December 5, 2021 4:23 AM

Poseidon Adventure

by Anonymousreply 4December 5, 2021 4:24 AM

Prometheus Unbound

by Anonymousreply 5December 5, 2021 5:10 AM

Brady Bunch shouldn't be winning. The movies are great, but she isn't the highlight by a longshot.

I voted for Troop Beverly Hills, which she carries on her shoulder pads.

by Anonymousreply 6December 5, 2021 6:52 AM

Definitely The Shining. She went through hell for that.

by Anonymousreply 7December 5, 2021 7:17 AM

Beverly Hills, what a thrill! I'm voting for Troop Beverly Hills. A beloved classic from childhood and it's still good today.

The Money Pit is #2.

Every Shelley Long performance is as great as the last performance even as each new performance reaches breathtaking new heights and explores dimensions previously unexplored in the world of film and television. May she live forever for I fear the world will be forever dimmed without her light.

The Comeback.

by Anonymousreply 10December 5, 2021 7:33 AM

I love that Shelly Long was the inspo for Valerie Cherish.

by Anonymousreply 11December 5, 2021 7:34 AM

Definitly Outrageous Fortune. I can't beleve you left it off the list, OP!

by Anonymousreply 12December 5, 2021 7:45 AM

Have to agree Outrageous Fortune

by Anonymousreply 13December 5, 2021 7:47 AM

Is Valerie Cherish from Lisa Kudrows the Come Back? That reminds me of Veronicas Closet for some reason and how Dan Cortese and NBC Thursday nights were a thing. I'd time our vcr to record them while was working my shift at McDonald's.

by Anonymousreply 14December 5, 2021 8:00 AM

VC reminds me of another VC? I guess...

by Anonymousreply 15December 5, 2021 8:26 AM

Virulent Chlamydia.

by Anonymousreply 16December 5, 2021 8:31 AM

I've never heard of her.

by Anonymousreply 17December 5, 2021 8:32 AM

Oh wow I didn't notice the vc vc thing but now I'm thinking if vc Andrews and damn talk about issues.

by Anonymousreply 18December 5, 2021 8:32 AM

She’s really funny in Modern Family.

by Anonymousreply 19December 5, 2021 1:35 PM

[Quote] if vc Andrews and damn talk about issues

Quite.

by Anonymousreply 20December 5, 2021 1:37 PM

I love Shelley Long. She’s a wonderful comic actress and makes any show she is in better. I don’t care if she is a nightmare off-screen, or if she wouldn’t drink with the Cheers cast or if Bette Midler can’t stand her. She respects the audience, takes the business of being funny very seriously and always gives a great performance.

Nashville

by Anonymousreply 22December 5, 2021 3:47 PM

Outrageous Fortune and Irreconcilable Differences are her best performances. She's very funny in both.

by Anonymousreply 23December 5, 2021 4:22 PM

That may be, r9, but how's her chicken paprikash?

by Anonymousreply 24December 5, 2021 5:59 PM

One-note actress, a relic of the 80s.

by Anonymousreply 25December 5, 2021 6:07 PM

Outrageous Fortune. Anyone who can hold their own opposite Bette Midler, while she's mugging like there's no tomorrow, deserves her proppers.

I forgot about Irreconcilable Differences!!!!! This was like a favorite of mine when I was little. I think someone mentioned ID on DL a couple of years ago and I tried to watch it but I don't think it's streaming anywhere.

by Anonymousreply 28December 5, 2021 7:05 PM

It's in two parts, r28...

I could’ve seen her in the Kathleen Turner role in War of the Roses. I loved her in Cheers and it’s a shame her career stalled after that. She should’ve stayed.

by Anonymousreply 30December 6, 2021 6:11 AM

What '90s movies could Shelley have done? House Sitter?

by Anonymousreply 31December 6, 2021 6:15 AM

I could see Shelley in the Goldie Hawn part from Death Becomes Her.

by Anonymousreply 32December 6, 2021 6:15 AM

She has such a weird acting technique or rather personality, because she’s always Shelley Long, she is restrained but manages to chew the scenery.

by Anonymousreply 33December 6, 2021 6:19 AM

AMAZING R29!!!!!! I am watching this tomorrow. I wish I had seen this thread earlier. Thank you very much for sharing.
