She's a DL favorite to hate, but what's her best performance?

Can we include Shelley Duvall movies?

Poseidon Adventure
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 5, 2021 4:24 AM |
Prometheus Unbound

Brady Bunch shouldn't be winning. The movies are great, but she isn't the highlight by a longshot.
I voted for Troop Beverly Hills, which she carries on her shoulder pads.

Definitely The Shining. She went through hell for that.

Beverly Hills, what a thrill! I'm voting for Troop Beverly Hills. A beloved classic from childhood and it's still good today.
The Money Pit is #2.

Every Shelley Long performance is as great as the last performance even as each new performance reaches breathtaking new heights and explores dimensions previously unexplored in the world of film and television. May she live forever for I fear the world will be forever dimmed without her light.

The Comeback.

I love that Shelly Long was the inspo for Valerie Cherish.

Definitly Outrageous Fortune. I can't beleve you left it off the list, OP!

Have to agree Outrageous Fortune

Is Valerie Cherish from Lisa Kudrows the Come Back? That reminds me of Veronicas Closet for some reason and how Dan Cortese and NBC Thursday nights were a thing. I'd time our vcr to record them while was working my shift at McDonald's.

VC reminds me of another VC? I guess...

Oh wow I didn't notice the vc vc thing but now I'm thinking if vc Andrews and damn talk about issues.

She’s really funny in Modern Family.

Quite.

I love Shelley Long. She’s a wonderful comic actress and makes any show she is in better. I don’t care if she is a nightmare off-screen, or if she wouldn’t drink with the Cheers cast or if Bette Midler can’t stand her. She respects the audience, takes the business of being funny very seriously and always gives a great performance.

Nashville

Outrageous Fortune and Irreconcilable Differences are her best performances. She's very funny in both.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 5, 2021 4:22 PM |
That may be, r9, but how's her chicken paprikash?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 5, 2021 5:59 PM |
One-note actress, a relic of the 80s.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 5, 2021 6:07 PM |
Outrageous Fortune. Anyone who can hold their own opposite Bette Midler, while she's mugging like there's no tomorrow, deserves her proppers.

I forgot about Irreconcilable Differences!!!!! This was like a favorite of mine when I was little. I think someone mentioned ID on DL a couple of years ago and I tried to watch it but I don't think it's streaming anywhere.

I could’ve seen her in the Kathleen Turner role in War of the Roses. I loved her in Cheers and it’s a shame her career stalled after that. She should’ve stayed.

What '90s movies could Shelley have done? House Sitter?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 6, 2021 6:15 AM |
I could see Shelley in the Goldie Hawn part from Death Becomes Her.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 6, 2021 6:15 AM |
She has such a weird acting technique or rather personality, because she’s always Shelley Long, she is restrained but manages to chew the scenery.

AMAZING R29!!!!!! I am watching this tomorrow. I wish I had seen this thread earlier. Thank you very much for sharing.
