Ditto, R3. That is when I got into DAYS -- during the Salem Strangler storyline, Roman & Marlena's early stuff. Objectively, I can admit Hogestyn was prettier, but Northrop will always (and ALWAYS) be Roman to me!

Definitely Wayne Northrop. Drake Hogestyn always looked like he had a stick up his ass. No humor at all.

Hogestyn is the least talented of almost ANY actor, soap or no soap. His cheesy "Whisper School of Acting" is SO painful...

Josh Taylor was on the show for years before Roman, Kayla & Steve, and his character Chris Kositchek wore many hats. Foreman of Anderson manufacturing, owner of Body Connection fitness club, owner of Shenanigans (everyone's favorite waterfront restaurant & bar) and then -- completely out of left field -- he became a lawyer.

Why? Because Kimberly Brady was going on trial for Emma Donovan's murder and there were no lawyers on the canvas, except Mickey Horton who was now the District Attorney. Truly, that was the ONLY reason. We hadn't seen much of Chris for a several months, save for the occasional appearance at Shenanigan's, and then BAM! There he was in a suit & tie one day, agreeing to represent Kimberly. There was a line or two of dialogue explaining that he'd been attending law school at night for a few years...but hadn't told anyone. Or something like that. It was pretty lame.

And Chris was a shitty lawyer. Kimberly was wrongly convicted & sent to prison. I'm pretty sure she was Chris' one & only client. Taylor left DAYS shortly thereafter to do Valerie's Family/The Hogan Family full-time.

Drake has charisma out the wazoo. He has chemistry with virtually everyone they have paired him. Both those make him incredibly popular and valuable to Days. Not the best of actors, but the show has learned to write to what strengths he has.

Wayne is by far the best actor of the three. He and Deidre had great chemistry together. However, when they were initially pairing Marlena and Roman back in 1981 and 1982, I was still rooting for Marlena and Don Craig to get back together. Consequently, I didn't really appreciate the chemistry that Wayne and Dee Dee had.

Josh Taylor has NEVER been Roman. I don't care if he's played the part for 24 years compared to to Wayne's six, Josh isn't Roman.

I don't remember Roman Brady. Was he a cousin like Oliver?

R14 I agree that Wayne is the only Roman. Drake is John Black. Josh Taylor is a nice guy and decent actor who may have physically been in the role for 24 years, but he’s just not Roman. He’s like a kind Brady Pub employee who hangs with the Bradys and Hortons from time to time and who occasionally dates Kate - but he just isn’t Roman Brady.

So did Pat Falken Smith's teenage daughter, which is how Wayne got the audition for Roman. True story.

Her daughter Kelly (not her real name ) was instantly obsessed with Dynasty and had a crush on Wayne. One night, Pat (who didn't watch Dynasty, or hadn't seen much of it) sat down in the living room with her for a few minutes while it was on. It was the first time Kelly had met him. He embraced her, kissed her on her forehead and said: "I hear I have you to thank for all this!"

[R38] HA! Decades of Our Lives, that's good. I haven't watched it continuously, all these years (and I don't currently watch it). Like many long-time soap viewers, I've gone through phases with it. There have been periods of 7-8 years where I didn't watch it all (i.e. the James Reilly years), only to get lured back in by a returning character. But I was in DEEP from 1982 - early 1994, I'll grant you that.

Wayne was Roman and Drake is John Black. That said, I’m glad Josh Taylor is still on the show. I like him as an actor and despite too many nips & tucks, he’s still so handsome.
