The Big Ragoo is DEAD TO ME

Hey Shirl, Carmine bought the farm.
"It is with deep regret that we share with you the passing of our beloved Eddie Mekka. Eddie passed away peacefully in his Newhall, California home on Saturday, November 27, 2021. He was 69 years old. At this time, we do ask that all media inquiries be withheld during his family's time of grief and mourning. We welcome you to share your memories of Eddie and your condolences to his family on this fan page. Rest In Peace EddiešŸ™šŸ»šŸ˜¢"

If it was peaceful at home it wasnā€™t Covid.

My dance partner! RIP.

Sounds like he needed a better agent.

When I was a kid I'd put a twist on his theme song "You know I go from fags to bitches."

Rest in peace, dear Mr. Mekka

by Anonymousreply 4December 2, 2021 6:13 AM

He never was handsome -It was like "Why are they trying to make it appear this guy is good-looking?"

by Anonymousreply 5December 2, 2021 6:14 AM

He seemed like a sweet guy. Iā€™m sad to hear this.

He shared a beer and a swing dance with Madonna in League of Their Own.

by Anonymousreply 6December 2, 2021 6:21 AM

Wait. "Carmine Ragusa" is dead to me???

Nooooooooo!!!!

I had such a crush on him when I was 7 years old!!!! I loved how happy he was, whenever he entered a scene. I wanted him to be my dad!!!!

I'm sad now.

by Anonymousreply 7December 2, 2021 6:42 AM

The family expects to be inundated by media inquiries?

by Anonymousreply 8December 2, 2021 6:48 AM

I hope Carmine and Shirl got to vo de oh doh doh before he croaked!

by Anonymousreply 9December 2, 2021 6:53 AM

He was only 5' 3", which explains why he was partnered to dance with Madonna.

by Anonymousreply 10December 2, 2021 6:57 AM

His Wiki page has been updated. RIP, Eddie:

Ran into him a few times in LA in the 80s. Usually at good dive-y Chinese restaurants. He was not 5ft 3 unless he was wearing lifts. I'd say a solid 5ft 7. Just a nice guy on the quiet side. You could not miss that mug of his. He was much cuter in person.

by Anonymousreply 12December 2, 2021 7:38 AM

I don't see why imdb would claim an actor to be [italic]shorter[/italic] than they really were, r12.

Sorry--here's the link.

So Shirl and Lenny are the only members of the main cast left.

by Anonymousreply 15December 2, 2021 7:43 AM

Get a hobby R13

by Anonymousreply 16December 2, 2021 7:50 AM

Was he gay?

I always thought he was.

by Anonymousreply 17December 2, 2021 8:10 AM

"He never was handsome -It was like "Why are they trying to make it appear this guy is good-looking?"

In blue-collar, Italian Milwaukee he'd be considered HOT!

by Anonymousreply 18December 2, 2021 8:27 AM

We believe: both his wives were beards; the kid was a turkey baster conception; he probably died of The Big A; and he was gay Gay GAY!

by Anonymousreply 19December 2, 2021 8:29 AM

He was only 69?

by Anonymousreply 20December 2, 2021 11:42 AM

RIP The Big Ragoo..

by Anonymousreply 21December 2, 2021 12:48 PM
I hope Carmine and Shirl got to vo de oh doh doh before he croaked!

I so love this muthafucka righ chea.

by Anonymousreply 22December 2, 2021 12:50 PM

Why Ragoo and not Prego, Rao's or Classico?

by Anonymousreply 23December 2, 2021 12:51 PM

Carmine Ragusa

by Anonymousreply 24December 2, 2021 1:22 PM
all media inquiries be withheld

I donā€™t think thatā€™s going to be much of a problem.

by Anonymousreply 25December 2, 2021 1:26 PM

Why didn't they just set the series in Brooklyn? Every cast member except Wiiliams talked New York (and she did too, in the early episodes).

I had no idea that he was once nominated for a Tony Award:

He had a hot ass, but I guess he couldn't live forever.

by Anonymousreply 32December 2, 2021 5:24 PM

He had one of those hot compact little bodies that were very popular back in the 1970s. Seemed like a genuinely nice guy, and had more talent than his career suggested.

by Anonymousreply 33December 2, 2021 5:28 PM

"Why didn't they just set the series in Brooklyn?"

Laverne & Shirley was a spin-off from Happy Days which was based in Milwaukee, but I agree, no one on the show talked like they were from Milwaukee

by Anonymousreply 34December 2, 2021 5:37 PM

Neighbors called authorities when he had not been seen for days.

The fear of many DLers, dying alone.

by Anonymousreply 35December 2, 2021 7:43 PM

The dearly also departed Squiggy always referred to him as the Big Raccoon. I would laugh like a loon whenever he called him that name.

It didn't take much to amuse me.

by Anonymousreply 36December 3, 2021 12:06 AM

He served up the beefcake until Ed Marinaro was added in season 6.

TMZ reported heā€™d recently been hospitalized for blood clots and could barely walk.

R30 you mean to tell me the ones star off the #1 TV show isnā€™t even verified?

by Anonymousreply 38December 3, 2021 3:00 AM

He was living in Newhall, so he probably welcomed death.

by Anonymousreply 39December 3, 2021 3:19 AM

........

by Anonymousreply 40December 3, 2021 5:34 PM

I wish you would have just once done short hair. He was good looking for the time. He was a talented dancer, and I bet in another time and place if he had short hair, that friendly personality, he might have gone a lot further. Nice guys are not cut out for Hollywood. Guessing he ended up broke since he live in Newhall. That place is where the poor white folk of CA live, it's really out there past the suburbs of LA. Almost rural. His estimated net worth was 500,000. That's about what a 3 bedroom house goes for in that part of CA.

by Anonymousreply 41December 4, 2021 12:37 AM

He was a guest artist at my brotherā€™s college back in the 90s. Had a habit of disappearing to the local bars so my brother was tasked with keeping track of him. Canā€™t remember what show they did or anything about his performance but I got to chat with him backstage. Friendly guy.

by Anonymousreply 42December 4, 2021 4:55 AM

BUMP

by Anonymousreply 43December 6, 2021 7:19 PM

He had a hot ass (truly), but he couldn't live forever.

by Anonymousreply 44December 6, 2021 7:27 PM

I was surprised to find out he was such a short guy.

He became heavy set in old age and most heterosexual short men do.

by Anonymousreply 45December 6, 2021 8:31 PM

All us other Carmines out there are in morning.

by Anonymousreply 46December 7, 2021 12:41 AM

Was he... gay?

by Anonymousreply 47December 7, 2021 12:51 AM

Sorry Squiggy, your not his type, and I am going to tell your boyfriend Lenny you have wandering eyes.

by Anonymousreply 48December 7, 2021 2:53 AM
Hey Shirl, Carmine bought the farm.

LOL.

by Anonymousreply 49December 7, 2021 3:05 AM

I never got the stupid tap dancing shit on the show. Just seemed 2 generations out of place for the 70's.

by Anonymousreply 50December 7, 2021 3:08 AM

R50 Penny and Garryā€™s mother was a tap dancing teacher and Penny was a good tap dancer - thus, the Marshalls had tap dancing on the show every chance they got. Thatā€™s all you really need to know.

And if you were like Cindy and couldnā€™t dance, well you were shit out of luck.

by Anonymousreply 51December 7, 2021 3:15 AM

Thanks for that background info R51. It was so out of place though, even my parents were like "oh how come people don't dance like that anymore"

by Anonymousreply 52December 7, 2021 3:22 AM
All us other Carmines out there are in morning.

Even in the afternoon?

Sorry Squiggy, your not his type,
