My god, she really is miserable.

Her followers are even worse though, one of them was like: "slay them, my queen!" or similar, in regards to these mythical "explainers" that upset Roxane. What is even going on?

Okay, I've been on an Antarctic cruise, and a solar eclipse nerds' tour to another continent. In both cases, the crew brought scientists along to entertain the guests, and by that I mean give lectures during downtimes when the ship is crossing open ocean, birdwatch or spot whales with the passengers, chat about sciency stuff with anyone who's interested, guide science-oriented day trips, and ask for photos of whale tails and videos of calving glaciers* so they can feel like "citizen scientists".

It's heaven to a geek like me who's interested in this stuff, I mean these were a few weeks of Nerdvana, but to someone who isn't interested in the science, they'd be annoyed and put off. But I have to ask, if she's not interested in the science of this stuff, THEN WHY THE FUCK IS SHE GOING TO ANTARCTICA, HUH? WHY???

My sister-in-law is an academic and she told me that privately, many academics don't take Roxane Gay seriously and think she's ridiculous. Her academic qualifications aren't all that as far as "real" academics are concerned. They roll their eyes when her name is mentioned. None of them, however, would publicly call Gay out for the semi-fraud that she is because she checks so many "woke" and SJW boxes in our current cultural climate that it would be professional suicide. Unfortunately, that's the way things are at the moment. My SIL and other "serious" academics are hoping that the current climate is more or less a fad and Roxane and her ilk will fade away.

OMG yes, R110, he's insufferable. He uses really purple prose when he writes too, because he thinks it makes him sound smarter and then he and Roxane mock people who don't understand what he's talking about.
