Maxwell is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, and supposedly has to be checked on by guards every fifteen minutes.
The lead prosecutor is James Comey's daughter.

by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 29, 2021 1:52 AM |
Maxwell's repeated requests for bail have been denied due to the belief that her wealth and international connections make her a flight risk.
"'The risks are simply too great,' the jurist said at a hearing, noting that Maxwell had shown an 'extraordinary capacity to evade detection' prior to her bust."

R6 for fuck's sake. she will almost certainly be found guilty 🙄
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 29, 2021 2:05 AM |
The defense is expected to portray Maxwell as a victim.
"Jill Steinberg, a former assistant U.S. attorney and Justice Department official who handled cases of child exploitation, said the trial will be a test of how jurors weigh evidence involving sexual abuse in the 'Me Too' era.
'There is more of an awareness of victimization and why people become victims,' said Steinberg, who is now in private practice.
She said a defense strategy that hinges on maligning the minor victims or portraying them as consenting to the sexual activities in exchange for money may backfire.
'The fact is that they are minors and it doesn’t matter whether they consented or not,' she said."

R7 I haven't read a word about what they're doing to protect the jury.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 29, 2021 2:06 AM |
If she is found guilty, I think her sentence will be heavy. Epstein is dead and the judge may feel pressured to make her the fall guy, sentence-wise.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 29, 2021 2:06 AM |
My recollection from more than a year ago is that Maxwell was accused of raping several girls without Epstein, in addition to grooming them.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 29, 2021 2:07 AM |
Maxwell was a fixture at the trailer parks, shopping malls, and public schools where poor young teen Floridians hung out.
She convinced them that they only had to massage her employer's back and that they'd never have to do anything which made them feel uncomfortable. Manipulator on steroids.

by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 29, 2021 2:30 AM |
Maxwell will go free or get a light sentence. The fact she's being allowed to testify (while Epstein mysteriously died) shows that nothing earth-shattering will be stated in this trial. I've read pieces of her depositions over this year and half she's been in jail, she outright denies everything on record.
There's also not much media coverage - as this is a federal trial and there won't be witnesses allowed in the courtroom.

Right wing media sounds a lot like some of the posts in this thread (including the OP who misstates that the lead prosecutor is James Comey's daughter, and not _a_ lead prosecutor like the article says).
Very conspiratorial but they can't seem to agree on what exactly. Either she will get off completely or she will be sent to jail but they just know it will be for nefarious reasons whatever the verdict.
Lots of Russian/other foreign ops playing both sides of this one.

I agree with R27. I hope she spills her guts about Clinton and Prince Andrew and many others we don't yet know. Claim to be a groomed victim who hurt others and use all the MENS names who took part and were happy customers and longtime social friends. Bring the wall down with you. I also expect her to spend the next 20 years in prison. Win/Win. Kill off the Clintons and the Royal family, shade the power players of Hollywood and CNN panels and then park herself SAFELY in jail. They can't afford another "suicide" and there won't be one. Slightly more ethical people are in charge now.
She's worse than a madam or a whore or a dominatrix. She is an international sex trafficker and lord knows what else. Throw a benevolent 20 year sentence at her. First let her speak. Sexual corruption runs much of our world. The prosecutors open the door and her lawyers can ask her ALL the names.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 29, 2021 4:23 AM |

Just wealth and access to his slaves. Ghislaine was the procurer and the charm. She's fucking filth. And so are her patrons and jet riders.
Has nothing to do with a political party. Except that Epstein was in with all the high "class" democrats. Ha.

Actually, makes sense that it's a physical (little black) book with paper pages. He probably started compiling names decades ago, when people had Rolodexes and paper books like that. He probably never transferred everything to computer because he knew it could get hacked into, subpoenaed (cloud), etc.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | November 29, 2021 6:27 AM |
If such a black book still exists, this is great leverage for Miss Maxwell. But they are determined to make a show of a fair trial after the murder of Epstein, so I still think that Clinton and Prince Andrew and Dershowitz will go down. Maybe Gates and some others, allegedly.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | November 29, 2021 6:34 AM |
I wonder if she's getting legal advice from Alan Dershowitz, who is alleged to have flown to the rape island with Epstein more than once.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | November 29, 2021 8:02 AM |
Bill Clinton took 26 DOCUMENTED flights on Epstein's plane. Five of them without his secret service detail. Dershowitz was another frequent flier, but no one beats our Bill.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | November 29, 2021 8:09 AM |
Because Bill did an international AIDS Tour and Epstein provided the private jet.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | November 29, 2021 8:19 AM |
Actually, I'm guessing that many people beat Bill Clinton. He's just the most famous name. By the way, r70, as r71 mentioned (but you did not): there are no flight logs that document Bill Clinton -- the only former U.S. president named the logs -- as landing at Jeffrey Epstein's Caribbean island. Yes, an Epstein victim did tell this to Lead Stories editor-in-chief Alan Duke - in January 2015 - and other news outlets reported it. But flight logs that show Clinton flew 26 times on Epstein's plane -- mostly during a highly-publicized AIDS education tour in Africa -- do NOT document him landing on the island.

[quote] The Deep State? What is this, Fox News?
Yes, it's all conspiracy theories.
The two cameras in Epstein's cell just happened to stop working that night. The two guards just happened to fall asleep that night. His roommate just happened to be removed the day before. Epstein just happened to be able to strangle himself with a bedsheet tied to his top bunk while kneeling. The prison physician just happened to fail to order photographs of the scene as is standard procedure in an inmate death. His body just happened to be moved to the morgue before outside authorities were called, in violation of usual procedures.
It's all a conspiracy theory. There is no deep state which protects itself.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | November 29, 2021 11:18 AM |
The very fact the people like Boebert are defending her is solid proof the QAnon nonsense was designed to protect Repug pedos.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | November 29, 2021 11:24 AM |
The fact that press and spectators are banned from the courtroom belies the claim that they "intend to make a spectacle" of this.
The thing that's funny about this is that both Trump and Clinton are alleged to have been friends with Epstein at one time. So the conspiracy nuts on the right wing's heads might explode. They want to make it all about Clinton but there's more photos of Epstein with Trump. Whether or not that means they were both having sex with underaged women, who knows.
Super rich people like Epstein, who had access to very important people, would have hobknobbed with a lot of them because they all know each other and move in similar circles. Doesn't mean they were all having sex with underaged women, though.
It's a complex situation which will likely be more nuanced than anyone can handle.

by Anonymous | reply 102 | November 29, 2021 4:06 PM |
R101, here's some info about this foul cunt for you!
"On 27 December 2019, Reuters reported that Maxwell was among those under FBI investigation for facilitating Epstein. After his arrest, Maxwell was in hiding, communicating with the courts only through her lawyers who, as of 30 January 2020, had refused to accept on her behalf service of three lawsuits against her. The New York Times reported that by 2016, Maxwell was no longer being photographed at events. By 2017, her lawyers claimed before a judge that they did not know her address; they further stated that she was in London but they did not believe she had a permanent residence.
Maxwell has a history of being unreachable during legal proceedings. During the lawsuit filed in 2017 from Ransome against Maxwell, District Judge John G. Koeltl granted a motion for "alternative service" on the grounds that the plaintiff's efforts to reach Maxwell were persistently thwarted; these included hiring a private investigation firm that attempted service at three physical addresses, sending information to several email addresses, and reaching out to the lawyers actively representing Maxwell in another lawsuit who refused to become a "general agent of process" to relay the information to her.
According to court documents from a lawsuit filed by Epstein against Bradley Edwards (a representative for several of his accusers), in 2010 Maxwell had agreed to provide a deposition in the case but reportedly left the country one day before Edwards was scheduled to fly to New York to take her deposition, "claiming she needed to return to the United Kingdom be with her deathly ill mother" with no intention of returning to the United States. However, Maxwell returned within a month to attend Chelsea Clinton's wedding.
In January 2020, it was reported that Maxwell had refused to allow her lawyers to be served with several lawsuits in which she has been directly named in 2019 and 2020, including one by Farmer and from Araoz. While Maxwell's lawyers continued to argue on her behalf against the release of additional court documents from the Giuffre v. Maxwell lawsuit, they claimed to not know where she is or to have permission to accept the recent lawsuits filed against her.
Authorities in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) were unsuccessful in locating Maxwell during the three and a half months they were seeking to serve her with a subpoena."
So, do you think that on the basis of the above, this fucking smear of maggoty shit might be a flight risk? Because I do, and so does my cat, my shirt and the chair I'm sitting on.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | November 29, 2021 4:09 PM |
R103, NO.
None of that is relevant to a CRIMINAL proceeding in which a defendant is held in jail BEFORE trial. You know when she is still innocent. Pretrial release is subject to court orders and the government has cited no violations of court orders. As I pointed out, if you could read and register thought through your very biased and unprincipled eyes, there are effective means to ensure a defendant appears for a criminal court proceeding.
The comparison of civil procedure, of which none of the above cited actions are against the law, is just the federal government stretching to justify this outrageous detention.
One is never obligated to accept service of process in a civil matter. A witness is never obligated to make themselves available for a subpoena. The fact you have not served someone on the basis that you cannot find someone - which I doubt was ever really true - is not grounds for denial of pretrial release in a criminal matter.

This trial is specifically charging Jizz for procuring underage girls for Epstein (who is DEAD, cannot say whatever piece he might have) - and I don't think she's stupid enough to open the can of worms that comes with dropping names that have never been explictly legally connected with her and Epstein. Everyone knows Clinton, Trump, etc had dealings with them, but it's not been brought up in the courts.

Trump voters constitute a very wide range of views from strong Libertarians to Moderates leaning Liberal on certain issues.
Plenty would prefer DeSantis who is viewed as generally free of sexual scandals and pedo behavior. Don't know of the FL Governor has ever hung out with scumbags like Epstein.
What's united Trump voters is a pro-business climate, especially for small business owners. Also a pro-2A as many live in rural areas and smaller towns where a gun is seen as a necessity when LE may be 20 minutes away.
Yes the majority of Trump voters believe in God and are probably disappointed he's not a regular church goer.
Plenty are military or have relatives and close friends that are former military. This alone makes some attend Trump rallies even if they are opposed to his at times questionable moral.s
That said, I think Val Demmings would have made a far better POTUS than Trump or Biden for her moral character and innate intelligence and common sense alone.

[quote] Like all contracts, they cannot be enforced if the contracted activities are illegal.
Yes and No. This is America. You can say whatever you want. The part about speaking out can't be enforced, But these NDAs are legally binding contracts created by lawyers who aren't stupid. Even in cases where activities are illegal. There are penalties/fines that can start Immediately for those who break the NDA. If a person has received money in exchange for signing the NDA, they have to pay the money back. If the NDA is from an employer, the person can be fired. Lawyers make sure to put some type of harsh penalty that creates terrific hardship for the person who breaks an NDA
Judges are allowed to require someone to break an NDA and testify in court. The person isn't liable for the fines/repayment of settlement money. The judge did that in the Cosby case.
Tiger Woods mistress signed an NDA that she would never speak about their affair. A few years later she did mention it on a tv show. She didn't spill anything bad, but he forced her to repay $10 million bucks
donald trump had his first two wives sign NDAs. When Marla hinted he was a bad person during his election run for 2016, he released a statement reminding her she had signed an NDA and she'd have to pay it back IMMEDIATELY. She NEVER mentioned him again. I don't think she ever spoke to the press again, about anything

Some people take money in exchange for not having someone arrested. That's the crime victim's option to do that. They willingly took the money and agreed to sign an NDA. Plenty of women at fox news still can't speak out about what happened to them because of the NDAs they signed in exchange for money

The "damning" evidence presented so far is a big so what.
Ghislaine Maxwell’s ‘degrading’ list of staff rules revealed in court
“Unless otherwise instructed, NEVER disclose Mr. Epstein or Ms. Maxwell’s activities or whereabouts to anyone,” the rulebook warned. “Do not be bullied … simply be firm.”
Staff also had to “advise Ms. Maxwell of any strange telephone calls or enquiries” — as well as of “any unusual behavior, such as strangers lurking around the vicinity of the property.”
Epstein’s cars were never allowed to have less than three-quarters of a tank of gas, and always had to have at least $100 inside.
“Remember that you see nothing, hear nothing, say nothing, except to answer a question directed at you,” it warned on the first page of orders.
The rules detailed a slew of instructions for each room, especially the master bedroom, which had to be kept at 60 degrees and have “JE and GM telephone directories” near the phone. A separate bedroom was not listed for Maxwell, though she had her own bathroom.
Staff should ensure that they had a “polite ‘aim to please’ approach,” with a ban on discussing their “personal problems” and a rule to “be cautious of noise levels and noise.”
“Unobtrusive is the key,” it stressed.
“Do not eat or drink in front of Mr. Epstein, Ms. Maxwell and their guests,” stressed the rules, which also forbade chewing gum and allowing cellphones to ring while dealing with the couple or their guests. The house phone “should be answered in three rings or less,” the book warned.
“You do not expound on the weather or any other subject” when entering bedrooms, the guide warned.
Staff had a list of common words and phrases that were banned, including “yeah,” “sure,” “gotcha,” “you bet,” “I dunno” and even “no problem.”
They were instead told to say the likes of “with pleasure” and “You are quite right” — and if criticized, reply, “It was completely my fault; I will make the changes immediately.”
Staff had a strict uniform of blue pants and white golf shirts, replaced with long-sleeve white shirts “for dinner service.”
“Items in pockets must not create a bulge or be visible,” the rulebook dictated, while staff should also “avoid using strong perfume or aftershave lotion.”
The book included lengthy lists of groceries and high-end products the couple always expected to have at the ready, including 32 toiletries that Maxwell demanded for her personal bathroom, where toilet paper had to be folded in a “V.”
They expected 26 types of drink — including wine, champagne, beer and spirits — and Epstein’s morning coffee had to include “creamer filled with Half & Half, warmed in the microwave for 25 seconds.”
At meals, staff should “always serve from the left, and clear from the right.”
JE and GM telephone directories were left in numerous parts of the mansion, as were headed notepads and cards, with Maxwell’s including “Lady Ghislaine” notepads, the name her late dad gave the yacht off of which he died in 1991.
There was a list of 13 daily cleaning tasks, 23 weekly ones and others for monthly and even each April and October, including to “rotate seasonal clothing.”
Staff also had to take turns on “standby duty,” where “you should not travel more than one hour from your home base.
“This means that if you are called, the maximum time it will take you to return, is one hour,” the handbook said, warning, “You could be called upon at any time, day or night.”
Despite the strict rules, staffers were told, “SMILE!”
by Anonymous | reply 156 | December 5, 2021 8:25 AM |
Did the list say “don’t say anything about the little girls”??
by Anonymous | reply 157 | December 5, 2021 8:30 AM |

R160, they didn't want it presented to the jury cause it makes them look like snobs who treat their staff like everyone else treats their staff. R162, exactly. It's a normal "wealthy beyond most people" list of dos and don'ts for staff. It's not pertinent to sex trafficking.
The fact that wealthy people - or any employer - have a lot more implicit power is a given for anyone in those positions - not limited to sex traffickers. Your boss at 7/11 has a lot of implicit power. Irrelevant without more specific explanation and argument.

Be sure to position them on your face while you jack off.
Be sure to have hundreds of dollars on hand to pay them off if they talk back.
After you start them off with sexual massages, quickly move on to hardcore bondage and let your guests tie them up and rape them.
Have Trump's phone numbers on hand for easy contact when young girls become available.
Be sure to hold your "friends" close with blackmail, an easy choice to keep them quiet.

The people on the jury don't know what goes on in other rich households. That's not being mentioned because it's not relevant to this trial. You may want to shift the focus onto other people, but at the end of the day, this trial is about the deviant crimes committed by ghislaine maxwell and the lengths she went to in order to try and cover up her crimes.

No woman connected to Epstein ever said they they had sex with Clinton. None. Maxwell/Epstein were DESPERATE to get something on him but couldn't. Clinton used Epstein for his airplane and he's known Maxwell since college, he knew exactly who he was dealing with and wasn't about to fall for their tricks. That's why Epstein put up the insulting painting in his house as revenge. IMO
Trump raped a 13 yo and Maxwell, Virginia Roberts were both witnesses. Palm Beach Police investigated and Alex Acosta buried it. Virginia Roberts has NEVER been asked about this publicly, I wonder why? Not.
Miami Herald reporter Julie Brown spoke to 80 victims, many who were 13/14 when they were first recruited. The Palm Beach PD interviewed 200 witnesses. Lack of evidence is not the problem.

On this website, there's a link to a PDF document (indictment) of what her actual charges are. The actual charges start on page 10 of the document.
It's in federal court due to crossing of state lines. Seems like the age of the girls doesn't matter, just as long as they're under 18. (Some states have a lower age of consent for sex (e.g., 16).) The prosecutor has to prove sexual "abuse" by Epstein and the Maxwell knew about it and helped.
I am not familiar with federal law and don't know exactly what sexual "abuse" would mean, as far as proving it in court to a jury.

Clinton is known for being a pussyhound and Virginia Giuffre did at least say something like that she saw him going off with two women even if she did not have sex with him. It is possible the people who had sex with him haven't spoken up or have been paid off? I'm just speculating because I do find it hard to understand why Clinton was hanging out with Epstein, and even got Ghislaine Maxwell invited to his daughter's wedding.
by Anonymous | reply 217 | December 8, 2021 11:55 AM |
fun fact: Robert Maxwell, Ghislaine's father, was originally Jan Hoch, a Czech Jew but his mother (wisely, given that most of his family were later killed in Auschwitz) told him to not appear Jewish. He went by du Maurier for a while because that was the name of a brand of cigarettes before being advised to choose a more respectable Scottish surname. Which is how Maxwell came about to be chosen. I do find it hilarious that Ghislaine drank Maxwell House coffee in the US. It's rather vile instant coffee so it's obviously because of the name.

by Anonymous | reply 221 | December 8, 2021 12:24 PM |
Oh, the judge will let it go to the jury. But with complex instructions that'll confuse the jurors as much as the prosecution's evidence.
I'll project a hung jury and a second trial. Maybe a conviction on the second round if the prosecution learns from its mistakes and streamlines its case, but I doubt it.

“He took you in a dark green car and you met Donald Trump there, correct?”
“Correct.”
No one has accused Clinton of any wrong doing with ADULT women but still, let's keep accusing him of guilt by association in every other post.

R209, if the government initiates reopening plea negotiations any time leading up to or during the trial then, yes, it tells you they are really worried they won't win. CDAN may be full of shit as it often is but if this is true then any defendant looking at the exposure she is, could be very tempted to take a really favorable plea offer.
Or it could just give the defense more confidence to stick it out. Depends on how much of a gambler Maxwell is. Some defendants are terrified of the uncertainty and need the certainty of a limited and more controllable resolution.
by Anonymous | reply 226 | December 8, 2021 2:43 PM |
R224, that's why it's so laughable that Trump supporters pretend to give a shit about child predators. They ignore the countless videos and picture of Trump with Epstein and Maxwell to scream about Tom Hanks eating babies. Trump wished Maxwell "well." Imagine if any "liberal" wished that despicable woman well. I don't doubt he raped that 12yo - not for a second. And it has nothing to do with politics, it has to do with a gross pig who has been a gross pig his whole life.
The reaction to predatory behavior is determined by pol. affiliation on the right. His "fans" don't give a shit if he rapes or if he's just a garbage human in every way, because they are as well. Cuomo is gone, Weiner is gone, Franken is gone. All for far less.
Meanwhile, Roy Moore would've become a senator if the white, racist trash Trump supporters were the only votes which counted.

In this case, popular opinion required them to prosecute, but pressure from the people who really count probably once again required them to do the job as poorly as possible.

Eva Dubin is a witness for the defense. From what I've picked up she was kind of deep in it along with her husband. Virginia Giuffre claims that the Dubins were the first people Epstein sent her to have sex with. And there are claims that Epstein had a photograph of the Dubins' eldest daughter as a child with a nude ass beside his bedroom door. There is also a photo of her as a child on Epstein's lap.

by Anonymous | reply 279 | December 17, 2021 10:14 PM |
In 1994, Dubin married Eva Andersson-Dubin and the couple has three children (two daughters and a son). He first saw Eva on the New York Post's Page Six in a modeling photo. The Dubins live in Manhattan and own property in Colorado's Gunnison County as well as in Sweden.
In August 2019, unsealed documents revealed connections between Dubin and Jeffrey Epstein, including allegations of involvement in his sexual abuse ring. Former house manager for the Dubins, Rinaldo Rizzo, described a 2005 encounter at the Dubin's home with a 15-year-old girl employed as a nanny. Rizzo said the girl, who was shaking and crying, told him that she was pressured by Ghislaine Maxwell to have sex with Epstein, with Maxwell taking her passport when she refused. A month into her employ, according to The Daily Beast, the Dubins took the girl with them to Sweden, where she was dropped off at an airport. The unsealed court documents were from a lawsuit filed in 2015 against Maxwell by Virginia Roberts Giuffre who named several individuals as participants in Epstein's sex trafficking scheme that included Glenn Dubin as one of the men with which Epstein and Maxwell forced her to have sex.
In September 2020 the Attorney General of the British Virgin Islands subpoenaed the Dubins as part of their probe into the dealings of Jeffrey Epstein

From the NY Times
Eva Andersson-Dubin, who once dated Epstein, is called to testify for Maxwell’s defense.
Eva Andersson-Dubin has long been entangled in the saga of Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier whom she once dated.
A longtime associate and former girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein testified on Friday at Ghislaine Maxwell’s sex-trafficking trial, saying she had never taken part in a group sexual encounter as one of the prosecution witnesses had suggested.
The witness, Eva Andersson-Dubin, is the founder of the Dubin Breast Center at Mount Sinai and is married to Glenn Dubin, a founder of Highbridge Capital Management. She dated Mr. Epstein in the 1980s and remained friendly with him even after he served a stint in jail beginning in 2008. Called as a defense witness, Ms. Andersson-Dubin testified that she had dated Mr. Epstein on and off from about 1983 until 1990 or 1991. After that, she said, the two were regularly in touch. She added that she was comfortable with the relationship between Mr. Epstein and her three children, who referred to him as “Uncle F.” A defense lawyer, Jeffrey Pagliuca asked: “Did you observe any inappropriate conduct between Mr. Epstein and any teenage females?” “I did not,” Ms. Andersson-Dubin replied.
Ms. Andersson-Dubin’s testimony also contradicted an accuser’s account of sexualized group massages involving Ms. Maxwell and Mr. Epstein. That witness, identified in court only as Jane, said that she first been abused by Ms. Maxwell and Mr. Epstein when she was 14 or 15 years old. She said Ms. Maxwell or Mr. Epstein would “sort of summon” people into a massage room or Mr. Epstein’s bedroom, “And it would just, you know, sort of turn into this orgy.”
While cross-examining Jane, the defense asked her who besides Ms. Maxwell and Mr. Epstein had taken part in the group massages, offering names and descriptions. One of those Jane said had participated matched the description of Ms. Andersson-Dubin, though only her first name was cited. “You told the government about a woman named Eva who joined in, correct?” asked a defense lawyer, Laura Menninger. “Correct,” Jane replied.
While questioning Ms. Andersson-Dubin, the defense showed her a picture of Jane. Ms. Andersson-Dubin testified: “I don’t recall ever meeting this person.” Later, Mr. Pagliuca asked: ““Have you ever been in a group sexual encounter with the person we are calling Jane” “Absolutely not,” Ms. Andersson-Dubin replied, also adding that she had never been in a group massage with Jane. On cross-examination, a prosecutor asked Ms. Andersson-Dubin had any memory problems. “It’s very hard for me to remember anything far back and sometimes I can’t remember things from last month My family notices it. I notice it. It’s been an issue.”
Ms. Andersson-Dubin and her family have long been entangled in the Epstein saga. Her husband and a daughter were known to socialize with Mr. Epstein at his homes, and depositions in civil cases have suggested that the Dubins could have been aware of Mr. Epstein’s abuse of underage girls. Ms. Andersson-Dubin’s own relationship with Mr. Epstein began in the 1980s, long before she married Mr. Dubin and became a member of Manhattan’s wealthy elite. She became Mr. Epstein’s girlfriend while putting herself through medical school and, with his encouragement, put modeling aside to focus on her studies.

Born in Sweden, she earned a high school diploma from Östraboskolan (Ostraboschool) where she graduated first in her class, concentrating in mathematics and physics. After graduating, she pursued a career in modeling and in 1980 was named Miss Sweden and placed fourth runner up in the Miss Universe contest. She attended the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm for three and a half years and then transferred to UCLA's School of Medicine where she earned her MD in 1989.[1] She then completed her residency in internal medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York in 1990.[1]
The Dubins donated approximately $19 million and were involved in raising an additional $24 million so that the center could open in 2011 and have funding to operate.[4] Andersson-Dubin works at the Dubin Breast Center part of the Tisch Cancer Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.[4] Since opening in 2011 to 2018, the center has processed 180,000 patient visits.[1]

The Guardian:
[quote]In the lift on the way out, I was holding forth to some other reporters, saying that the reason there is no defence is because there is no defence: that is, Ghislaine Maxwell is guilty. Then the lift door opened and her sister Isabel Maxwell got in and we all fell silent.

She has a separate trial facing two counts of perjury. I looked up what she is alleged to have lied about and one of them is about sex toys! No, really.
[quote]"Maxwell said she could not "recollect" ever having sex toys in her room in Epstein's Florida home. This is one of the statements which prosecutors charged her with perjury over. Former Epstein staff member Juan Alessi claimed in a 2016 affidavit that he would sometimes find sex toys and vibrators in Maxwell's sink at the Florida home."
The other perjury count is about the flight logs catching her out. She claimed that Virginia never visited London with her despite flight records showing that they travelled there together as well as the infamous Prince Andrew picture at Ghislaine's house; that she didn't recall Virginia being on the Lolita plane despite flight logs showing that she was on it with Virginia at least 23 times; and that she only visited Epstein's Palm Beach home once in 2005 despite flight logs showing that she flew there 11 times on his private plane.

Closing arguments - prosecution saying use your common sense, why would Maxwell and Epstein be hanging out with minors, Epstein wouldn't be able to do it without the help of a woman to pacify concerns.
Defense saying that the women made it up to get money, picking out stuff that they remembered wrong.
Prosecution rebuts that while memory is fallible, the main core of traumatic or notable experiences are remembered, and that Maxwell received several millions from Epstein too.
Idk how this will go. It will only take 1 juror holding out right?

But it seems like dozens, if not hundreds, of rich, powerful assholes should be going to jail with her. But we're just going to focus on her, and pretend we are this very serious, very moral society that just WILL NOT TOLERATE raping young girls, when so obviously we completely will, when it comes to the actual rapists involved.

When her father died it came out that he was a fraud who had stolen a lot of money so suddenly she no longer had the mega-rich lifestyle she was accustomed to even though she still had a trust fund of $100,000 a year. Epstein provided her with that in return for her running his household, her social contacts, and providing girls. The prosecution provided evidence that Epstein made payments of $30m to her. That's a lot of money to gift someone you weren't married to (even if he had a net worth of some $500m). It is also clear that they were dating other people while she was still running his household. Transactional relationship. Same with Scott Borgerson who probably thought she would provide him with an in with all her social contacts until that came crashing down with her arrest.

Dertz got in on the action. Was he being blackmailed?

I'm of two minds about this trial:
1. Maxwell is guilty of contributing to the delinquency of minors. (not human trafficking)
2. Maxwell is getting piled on for Epstein's crimes.
She's going to get hard time while many others who worked for Epstein who acted in the same manner are not even being prosecuted.
by Anonymous | reply 317 | December 21, 2021 7:30 AM |
It doesn’t make sense that Epstein was a middle man. He was filthy rich. But the timeline makes me think he was using the girls for a larger reason. Not for personal pleasure. That seems incidental.
What was he doing before the Palm beach house. It seems like the girls started there. Had this been something he’d done his whole life?
It makes you wonder whether Lex was a blackmail target or just someone who was duped.
Anyway, he couldn’t have done it without this broad. She is guilty as charged. No question.
Every sinceI read that first article in Vanity fair I just knew this guy was some kind of creep. It’s the eyes.

Very wealthy people have forever and always been giving rides on their private planes to politicians and others they want to rub shoulders with. That's all it means.
Same with offering vacation places. See Biden Thanksgiving vacation.
I can't wait until someone suggests that the late Brooke Astor who spent her days raising funds for charities in her 90s must have been involved with sex trafficking because Epstein was always at her events and she at his.
by Anonymous | reply 322 | December 21, 2021 6:55 PM |
R322 The difference here is that the women explicitly say that they were trafficked out to have sex with a number of those people. Giuffre for example named the Dubins, Prince Andrew, Dershowitz, Gov. Bill Richardson, Sen. George Mitchell, and so on. She never claimed to have sex with Bill Clinton so clearly it wasn't everyone. The point is that isn't merely about being at a party or on a plane with someone - there was active sex trafficking going on if you believe the women's claims.

It would have saved the Feds mega bucks if she fled to France [R326]. I wonder it wasn't dropped in her ear and she possessed too much hubris to believe she'd be brought to trial. It seems she spent lots of time giving depositions even before Epstein was jailed. You know, the time he, erm, sort of, killed himself. When the footage in the security cameras disappeared and the guards were on break, or wherever they weren't supposed to be. Instead of like, doing their jobs.

Most "girls" who have been trafficked to such elite characters likely end up dead. I wonder why, if they have such damning stories, were they ever allowed to live?
There are so many things that don't add up. Like why wasn't Virginia Giuffre called to testify? She said in an interview that she was available.
by Anonymous | reply 328 | December 21, 2021 9:48 PM |
It's reported that Maxwell spoke French with her siblings in court.. I remember thinking that it was probably their first language at home since their mother was French. She was born in France and named Ghislaine Noelle Marion (allegedly as revenge for her father naming her brother Kevin, which is pretty funny, I have to admit - Kevin is a bit of a low class name in the UK).
R328 Some lawyers have said that calling Giuffre and other high profile victims would have been a distraction - that the defence would have loved to pick holes in the various things they've done and said publicly. I do think it's an interesting strategy. Perhaps the prosecution thought that they had enough with the four women they chose.

no one knows, but he didn't make it from the stock market. In order to make that much money in the market he would have had to make really, really big trades. And if you make big trades, the other traders hear about it. none have heard about him ever trading

R344, I listened to the whole thing. It was really good
I actually can remember when her father died. He had bought the NY Daily News. They discussed him a lot on A Current Affair. donald trump, robert maxwell and other rich scum tried to outdo each other with bigger yachts that they kept in the East River. They were a very trashy family. I was always shocked that after their father stole everyone's pension and the fact that they were such greedy, grasping, social climbing trashy family that someone like prince andrew would be friends with ghislaine.
The queen was a silly, jackass for allowing ghislaine to attend parties at Buckingham and Windsor Castles. And for every picture you see of ghislaine and jeffrey at royal parties, there's probably 5 more that you don't see
by Anonymous | reply 347 | December 28, 2021 2:04 AM |
R347 And it's been reported that The Queen disliked Robert Maxwell (as did Princess Di), referring to him as 'that ghastly man'. But Andrew was always her favourite son and she is soft on him. To this day she gives him a large income out of her own money - Andrew and his wife are terrible with money, which was one of the reasons he got entangled up with Epstein, who gave Andrew money to pay off debts.
I keep thinking that there has to be an intelligence angle here - while Ghislaine was into hobnobbing with high status people, I get the impression that the more introverted Epstein himself was more into sex.
A friend of Epstein's who was cold called from the 'little black book' said that she once asked Epstein to explain what exactly it was that he did for a living. Epstein allegedly told her to read "The Man from O.R.G.Y." and that it would explain everything.
"The Man from O.R.G.Y." is a Bond spoof. A con man called Steve Victor travels the world under the guise of being a "sex researcher" in order to spy for the US, in short. The title comes from the name of the protagonist's fake research team, the Organization for the Rational Guidance of Youth. By accounts it's full of terrible scenes like "toddler brothels", "graphic details of children and infants being ceremonially raped," a sex slave saying that women enjoy being raped, etc. So it's the main character participating in debauched sex as he rubs shoulders with the rich and powerful to gather their secrets.

I'll add that I think that Epstein collected intelligence on people so that he could con/steal money - not *necessarily* working for a government altho maybe he did that too. That money funded his endless stream of girls which was what he was really interested in as a sex addict. A JP Morgan banker testified in court that Maxwell was given payments adding up to $30.8m - from all accounts she was the main person who collected girls and high status people for him.
More than one person has said that Epstein's relationship with Wexner was very strange and that Epstein boasted about being able to control Wexner's emotions. Epstein allegedly said that Wexner was a guy with no life but that Epstein would give him a life. He got a ton of money from Wexner which was probably one of his first biggest breaks.

Isabel Maxwell, the sister who has been most loyal, married a con man herself, called Al Seckel tho the marriage was bigamous since he was already married to someone. In any social group there are a percentage that are dangerous, grifting, sociopathic, whackadoodle, deviant or some combination thereof. It's not always possible to see their unsavoury stuff. Personalities are complex. Everyone of a certain age has been fooled by a nasty person at one time or another. And just because someone is a sociopath/asshole/weirdo doesn't mean they don't do "good" things like donate to charity, perform heart surgery or invent green technology. Fun fact: 'Jane', the soap actress, was supposed to have her brother testify to corroborate her claims but she texted him that one of Maxwell's lawyers, Laura Menninger, is a 'cunt'. Well, that's what I assume because Menninger said that it 'rhymes with front'.
The prosecution felt forced to disclose this because witnesses are not supposed to contact each other and notified Menninger of this at 3am. Menninger complained (and according to a journalist appeared to be genuinely furious about it), and so the prosecution withdrew the brother as a witness.

Here's an excerpt from Virginia's memoir about 'Jane' (I've replaced Jane's real name):
[QUOTE]"(Epstein) then started to tell me the history behind where he got her. Five years ago when she was merely a teenager just turned thirteen. Her father had recently passed away, leaving Jane's mother in a tremendous amount of debt and living in a third world country, she didn't have the means necessary to raise her own daughter. When Ghislaine approached Jane for the first time at a music school, she seemed like a maternal, caring stepmother. Telling Jane's mother if she let Jane go with her, she would see to it personally that Jane receive the best education and chances in life to make it. In her customs it wasn't odd for a young girl to be married off to bring the family good fortune, so she kissed her baby girl good-bye and sent her off to commence her life of servitude. I sat there speechless listening to Jeffrey brag about his endeavor to get her over here, shocked that he could stoop as low as to use a barely teen to oblige his sexual desires. He was laughing and giddy as he replayed the memories of her arrival over in his head, painting me a horrific picture I had no choice but to imitate a smile to face him with."
She also writes about a pretty degrading sexual experience she had with Jane and Jeffrey - they were taken to Sarah Kellen's tiny one bedroom shack which had about five girls Sarah had congregated for Jeffrey to choose from. Despite that Virginia and Jane were told to go with Jeffrey in the bedroom and Jeffrey asked Sarah Kellen for her personal collection of sex toys. Everyone in the next room fell silent and knew what was going on as Epstein had intercourse with Virginia and Jane in tandem, swapping back and forth between them for 15 minutes while they were told to make out and touch each other.

NEW YORK, NY—Ghislaine Maxwell has been convicted on 5 counts related to sex crimes committed against minors for over a decade. A few minutes after her conviction, she announced she has landed a brand-new job at CNN.
"We called Maxwell as soon as the verdict was read," said CNN President Jeff Zucker. "Ghislaine has shown us she has exactly what it takes to work here. This has nothing to do with the fact that she's really good at committing sex crimes. We are hiring her for her... um, many other qualifications. Yeah. Qualifications."
Maxwell will replace Wolf Blitzer as an anchor on The Situation Room and will also be placed in charge of the hiring of all new female interns.
"I am humbled to have been given this new opportunity at CNN," said Maxwell, "and I promise to do my best to find the very best girls—er, I mean, news. The very best news. Yeah. That's what I meant."
Ghislaine Maxwell will broadcast the news from her federal prison cell in New York City until her sentence is completed, or until she "kills herself".

That's hilarious R369. dershowitz is a raper too. He must be so rattled.

Isn't a settlement more about finances? And maybe an agreement that she never discloses what she experienced?

R369 Forget that useless tweet. See first-hand what AD said on the BBC.
Horrible journalism because the BBC simply introduced him as a "constitutional lawyer" without referring at all to his connection with those people. Unbelievable, in fact.
by Anonymous | reply 372 | December 30, 2021 2:41 AM |
Maybe in the UK, they don't think of Dershowitz as a scumbag, like a lot of people in the US do.
by Anonymous | reply 373 | December 30, 2021 2:51 AM |
R373 That's beside the point. No ethical journalist anywhere would treat him as a disinterested expert commentator on this case.

True, R374. It's a troll-like move. Either that, or clueless.

Her mother Elisabeth seemed a very cultured humane and educated woman.
While Ghislaine did inherit her mother's looks, she unfortunately inherited her father's soul.

Former AUSA's view on sentencing.
(TL;DR He thinks 20-24 years, or if Maxwell's attorneys are successful reducing it, 12-15 years. And time already spent in jail will be taken off - about 1.5 years.)
[quote]Here, the relevant Sentencing Guideline is Section 2G1.3. Based on the five counts of conviction, the number and ages of the victims, and the fact that Epstein and Maxwell used minors to lure other minors into sex-for-pay, I believe that Judge Nathan will find that the applicable guideline range is 235 - 293 months (20 - 24 years). Specifically, I expect that the judge will find that Maxwell has a criminal offense level of 38 and a criminal history category of I. At sentencing, it is likely that Maxwell’s attorneys will try to reduce the sentence by fighting on at least two issues. (1) Does Maxwell deserve a two-point reduction in her offense level because she played a “minor role” in the offense? and (2) Should Maxwell be assessed the two-point upward adjustment for using minors to recruit minors? Even if Judge Nathan rules in favor of Maxwell on both issues (and I believe that she will not (and should not)), Maxwell would still be subject to a presumptive sentence of 151 - 188 months (12 - 15 years). Even with credit for the 15 months that Maxwell has already served, she likely would not emerge from jail before she turned 71 - 74.

I believe Trump publicly wished her well so she wouldn't turn on him. Good move by Trump because she wasn't an outside observer but a full participant in Trump's activities with Epstein.

He's not well known in the UK. They put him on like he was an independent legal expert who was weighing in as a neutral party. Instead, he's a co-conspirator of jeffrey epstein and ghislaine maxwell who raped children who had been trafficked by maxwell

Still, if I know he stated OJ is innocent then others will too. Not a glowing recommendation. Any half-competent journalist knows all about AD's links to Epstein, and in seeking his opinion hope to give him enough rope.

It's because she's a white, rich and educated socialite. If this was the Rotherham men or Rose West, I cannot see the BBC having people on to defend them.. they wouldn't even think of it. But they give Ian Maxwell and Dershowitz a voice because it's an unconscious bias.
by Anonymous | reply 387 | January 2, 2022 9:48 AM |
R387 I don't think it's unconscious. Any more than any of the BBC's biases.

Not a glowing recommendation for your understanding of law. Or attention span.

It's unfortunate that our legal system doesn't have the option that the Scottish one does, which is to give verdicts of guilty, not guilty and NOT PROVEN. That last is what many trials would end up with here if it were available, and what it says to the world is that a cloud of suspicion remains over the defendant because a lot of evidence was presented against him....just not rising to the level that the jurors could proclaim him guilty. Given that OJ lost subsequent civil trials on the same evidence (where the burden of proof is less) I think that calling him "innocent" is a stretch.

Additional mistrial motion filed for juror misconduct. Two jurors withheld pertinent information about themselves and used this to sway other jurors.

The revelation, which the juror said figured in the deliberations at Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial, led prosecutors to seek an inquiry and the defense to call for a new trial.
Federal prosecutors on Wednesday asked the judge who oversaw Ghislaine Maxwell’s sex-trafficking trial to investigate the process by which one of the jurors was chosen, after he told news outlets he was a sexual abuse victim and had discussed his experience during deliberations.
The prosecutors’ request, in a letter filed with the court, raised the possibility of additional inquiry into how jurors who voted to convict Ms. Maxwell had been selected and the prospect of Ms. Maxwell’s lawyers moving to have a mistrial declared in the closely watched case.
Later on Wednesday, Ms. Maxwell’s lawyers indicated they planned to do just that, saying in two letters to the judge that their client would seek a new trial and that the judge “can and should order” one without holding a hearing, as the government had requested.
Ms. Maxwell’s lawyers said Ms. Maxwell planned to make her request under a federal rule that grants a judge the power to grant a new trial when the “interest of justice so requires.”
