Can Men Wear Pearls?
by Anonymous | reply 150 | June 23, 2023 10:24 AM |
Idiotic looking ones, sure!
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 23, 2021 8:32 PM |
How's the new sock puppet account, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 23, 2021 8:33 PM |
Looking like what, OP. A faeg? Just say it.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 23, 2021 8:33 PM |
You go ahead, OP, and get back to us on that, ok?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 23, 2021 8:33 PM |
No!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 23, 2021 8:38 PM |
Yeah, many celebrity men and guys on TikTok are doing it. It’s all the rage right now.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 23, 2021 8:39 PM |
Can you, yes. Should you, no. It's just begging for attention like any Ticktok or Instagram or self-promotion bullshit. Find your happiness from within.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 23, 2021 8:41 PM |
No. Don't be a douche.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 23, 2021 8:42 PM |
It's like rubies, they are girly. Show me a nice pearl man's ring.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 23, 2021 8:49 PM |
Ask your pal Milo OP
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 23, 2021 8:51 PM |
Are you hot and young? .. lol Small pearls don't look that different from puka shells (which were supposedly becoming popular again?). Guys can also layer pearl necklaces with other necklaces, or pearls are just part of the necklace. Freshwater and black pearl designs might be more "masculine."
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 23, 2021 9:07 PM |
No
But, go right ahead OP. Knock yourself out. I LIKE guys that look really gay
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 23, 2021 10:05 PM |
In the old West, outlaws who fancied all black ensembles very often topped off the look with a string of pearls about their neck. It is where the expression “pearls go best with basic black” originated.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 23, 2021 10:43 PM |
After a while it does get crusty and flakes off in spots.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 23, 2021 10:51 PM |
Not everything is fluid. Some things are not fluid. Sheesh.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 23, 2021 11:02 PM |
REAL men wear pink...er, pearls...er, BOTH!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 23, 2021 11:22 PM |
I'd love it if some hot guy gave me a "pearl necklace."
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 24, 2021 2:26 AM |
If we didn't wear them, what would we clutch?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 24, 2021 2:27 AM |
Charles I wore a pearl earring in his left ear from the age of fifteen. He even wore an especially exquisite pearl earring to his execution. Sir Walter Raleigh wore pearl earrings in BOTH ears. However (as the article states), these men didn't represent the majority.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 24, 2021 5:15 AM |
How about black pearls?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 24, 2021 5:30 AM |
I can’t believe it took until R18 for the obvious response here. Gay men have been wearing them for years. I had a hot FB who asked me to give him one every time he came ovet.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 24, 2021 5:33 AM |
Rupert Friend looked pretty good in pearls in Cheri.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 24, 2021 5:38 AM |
A famous Australian swimmer used to love the odd string of pearls back in the 00's
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 24, 2021 6:05 AM |
They go well with a wooly Frau suit like the ones the Church Lady wore. I don't have a pic to show you what I mean.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 24, 2021 6:44 AM |
Queen Mary had a famous 11-strand pearl choker that her grandson's wife the Duchess of Gloucester sometimes still wears.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 24, 2021 6:54 AM |
The market price for pears has plummeted over the last 5 years. They are relatively cheap now. My boss bought his wife a 180,000 dollar string of very large pearls about 15 years ago. Long story short, when they got divorced and tried to sell them, Sotheby's said don't bother selling them. They would only offer about 40,000 for them because of some flood of pears in the market and some kind of monopoly was broken up, china flooding the market with them.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 24, 2021 7:05 AM |
You should never, ever, ever buy jewels for investment purposes, unless they have a famous history (such as they were worn by a famous person). Otherwise they will lose value.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 24, 2021 7:10 AM |
Why not?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 24, 2021 7:31 AM |
I hate when people do this but this is just dumb:

Yes. A nice wool bouclé, R27.
I don't own any, but I've always preferred the look of Baroque pearls. I'd love to have a silver ring set with a huge Baroque pearl.

by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 24, 2021 9:45 AM |
Op, pearls on guys are in, it’s a trend for zoomers I’ve seen so many with pearls on their neck and dangly earrings. Google image “men pearls” to see for yourself.

When you look like the guys at r12 & R23 you can wear whatever the fuck you want.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 24, 2021 11:57 AM |
I've got a strand of black pearls that I inherited from a rich aunt (she hoped I'd give them to my future wife, poor dear was blind) that I wear from time to time. I wore them as part of my uniform when I was Club Kid adjacent in the 90s.

Only for fake pearls, you know the cultured kind. Real pearls found in the wild are obscenely rare and expensive.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 24, 2021 4:28 PM |
Wearing pearls is obscene
by Anonymous | reply 46 | November 24, 2021 4:32 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 47 | November 24, 2021 4:40 PM |
Call me sexist, but there's simply some things women do that men should never do, and vice versa.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 24, 2021 4:41 PM |
Wear what you fucking want to wear. The whole idea that something is too feminine or masculine is such contrived bullshit. If I wasn't old and had a bad ankle, I would wear heels in a heartbeat. They do wonders for the ass and legs.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 24, 2021 4:46 PM |
LOOK AT ME!!!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | November 24, 2021 7:20 PM |
R9– Plenty of nice Tahitian pearl men’s rings. My father had one. It was gorgeous. It was a dark blue color, in a chunky setting
by Anonymous | reply 51 | November 24, 2021 7:38 PM |
Like a lot of these "gender bending" fashion trends, it only looks good in photos on young, hot, slim, tall men. In real life you're more likely to see them on pale, pudgy, young men working in low-paying service jobs who can't afford to live in the city they've just moved to.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 24, 2021 8:05 PM |
Damiano David of the band Måneskin looks good with pearls.

I remember one summer in Rehoboth about 30 years ago all the DC hot young hunks were wearing pearls. Ropes and ropes of pearls with no shirts, dancing. Its not a new thing.

[quote]You should never, ever, ever buy jewels for investment purposes, unless they have a famous history (such as they were worn by a famous person). Otherwise they will lose value.
Not if you are rich Dear. Yes, commoners like yourself who might think a one carat diamond ring is special will lose your shirt if you try to sell it. But you get into the 5 carat, and above, or stones that start at the 100,000 dollar range and above they not only hold their value, they appreciate because they are so rare at that size and quality.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | November 26, 2021 8:01 AM |
Atlanta Braves ballplayer Joc Pederson started wearing pearls in September, with fans (male and female) following suit. Must have been good mojo as the Braves went on to win the World Series.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | November 26, 2021 8:30 AM |
Men ARE wearing pearls. It’s popular right now.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | December 5, 2021 9:18 AM |
Only if you are 25. When that guy is 50 and still wearing his pearls he's going to be part of the Caftan brigade.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | December 6, 2021 6:45 AM |
Cufflinks. Tie pins. That's as far as Men should go with pearls.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | January 10, 2022 1:27 PM |
Don’t let your husband buy you cheap ones that break and bounce all over the place every time you get murdered.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | January 10, 2022 1:27 PM |
Men can wear them briefly... it liquefies pretty quickly anyway, as I'm sure you know.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | January 10, 2022 2:09 PM |
has anyone encountered pearl implants in a cock head? I was watching Real Housewives of Miami and they referenced it as very common with Cubans so I googled it. icky!! It's supposed to be for enhanced pleasure but it looks freakish,.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | January 10, 2022 4:23 PM |
I think a single pearl on a leather cord like r68 pic can look good and not frilly.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | March 17, 2022 1:23 PM |
Men are wearing pearls and only ignorant bigots have a problem with it. My Trump supporting cousin even complained about it when she came over. Fuck these people.
I love that men are finally expressing themselves.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | March 17, 2022 2:25 PM |
Me wearing pearls needs to stop.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | March 17, 2022 3:36 PM |
Fuck pearls; if we wear necklaces, I want antique foil murano glass beads or lapis - and not that irregular shaped or dyed shit on a string.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | May 16, 2022 3:09 AM |
For anyone else who watches MSNBC, Tim Miller comes to mind with this one.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | May 16, 2022 3:17 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 87 | July 11, 2022 2:08 AM |
Pleasant looking young fellow in his pearls. Looks perfectly natural and cute.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | July 11, 2022 2:09 AM |
Looks dumb.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | July 11, 2022 2:12 AM |
No, pearls are just for girls. Unless you like scambling around the floor searching for pearls, try puka schell jewelry. Puka shell necklaces are very attractive on men with an informal, summer look. Man up, just a little.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | July 11, 2022 2:15 AM |
Gay guys love pearl necklaces, the liquid kind.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | July 11, 2022 2:18 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 95 | July 11, 2022 2:21 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 96 | July 11, 2022 2:23 AM |

Boscs and Bartletts, perhaps.
But Comices have retained their value.

by Anonymous | reply 99 | July 11, 2022 2:30 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 101 | July 11, 2022 2:43 AM |
I know R45 is an old reply but 99% pearls on the market including mikimoro are cultured and have been for many many years.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | July 11, 2022 4:37 AM |
Cultured pearls are produced by a living organism.

Adding to bit about Joc Pederson. Not only did he wear pearls during World Series, but those pearls are now in the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Braves had a pearl specially included in the design of their World Series Rings. He's with the Giants now and occasionally wears his pearls in game. Bonus bit of trivia: his walk-up music is Dancing Queen by ABBA. Bonus bonus: married with three kids.

R116 Squeeze lol Severino is such an unapologetic slut. Wonder if he would've behaved the same had he been born in my hometown of Naples, Southern Italy, instead of Denmark. Yenno, a slightly more conservative, religious and close-minded place (but ever so slightly, not too much) 🤭
by Anonymous | reply 117 | April 17, 2023 4:40 AM |
Pearls are meant for truly elegant, classy, biological women. Not men or any of those fictional pronoun people.

R24! I had begun to think no one was familiar with Chéri but me!
That movie taught me that, yes, a man can wear pearls but only when he is languid, worldly, and moves in circles of debauched people who are only peripherally interested in anything other than 1) money; and 2) themselves.
And the man, preferably a youth, MUST be good looking. Without that, there is no point at all. The pearls will effortlessly defeat you the instant the clasp is closed.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | June 13, 2023 3:03 PM |
R20, thanks for the link.
The article states that wearing jewelry by men fell out of fashion after the Restoration, which aligns with what many historians and scholars of gender and sexuality argue...that is, around 1700 we begin to see the emergence of heterosexuality and homosexuality, and modern conventions of masculinity and femininity. You could argue as well that those conventions are shifting once more.

R44 Men can do whatever they like... good on you. Funny that this thread popped up after I watched an older Hasan Piker podcast of him remonstrating a gay friend of his to return the pearls he loaned him... then he had to clarify "the black ones"... he sports both at times, and it's hilarious he was fine with his mate not returning the others. I think jewellery is completely different with younger folk. Much more freedom, gay or straight.
I inherited a pair of pearl and diamond cufflinks, which were re-worked from some relative's jewellery box... I gave them to a lady friend at university. She had a Stevie Nicks style: loved leather and lace, pearls and peasant skirts. She had a penchant for tailored men's white shirts with french cuffs. She wore them at my dad's memorial service, and I almost cried when she told me they're still her "favourite things" some thirty-five years later.
I'm not one for jewellery on blokes, but I appreciate vintage beads as a young man's necklace...especially those small glass Japanese beads. Keep rockin' what you love mate!
