Is his hair permed?? Why?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 20, 2021 11:36 PM |
He was no Sidney Crosby in certain important ways.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 20, 2021 11:43 PM |
His unparalleled success made him a celebrity, but I don't remember anyone thinking he was hot, however hard they tried to convince us otherwise. I remember people saying he looked like Meryl Streep.
Glenn Anderson, Kevin Lowe, Paul Coffey, on the other hand...

Super 70s Sports is one of my favorite Twitter accounts.

What's so funny is he never got his nose broken because he was so brilliant at keeping away from other players' checks... but if anyone could have benefited from a broken nose, it was he. He would have been a handsome man with a different nose--it was his only bad feature.

He didn't age well--he kept his hair, but his complexion became both florid and leathery, and he gets terrible haircuts.

I used to live in Edmonton and it’s sad the amount of stuff still named after him. They’re living in the 80s when the Oilers were a success. They even have a mural of the Oilers retarded stick boy on the side of a building.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 21, 2021 12:21 AM |
The OP pic, which I actually find attractive, reminds me of 80s country singer Keith Whitley, only beardless.

^ Also ugly with a hawk like face. Hatchet. Is that Meryl?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 21, 2021 12:27 AM |
His younger brother Keith was (briefly) hot, at least hotter than Wayne. He aged poorly too.

R13, to be fair, if you asked me to name anything else of note about Edmonton ....
And they've never shut up about Frank Sinatra being from Hoboken, New Jersey.

R27 What I've always found interesting about that scandal is that it was his wife that was implicated, along with a bunch of NHL players, but not Wayne.
I just get this picture of WG hosting NHL poker parties at his house playing for like pretzels or something. Meanwhile, all the players keep excusing themselves to get snacks from the kitchen where Janet is sitting at the island with one of those old time green visors taking bets on all sorts of shit and smoking a big cigar. And, WG being oblivious.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 21, 2021 2:05 AM |
Wayne is pretty square from what I've heard.

Not only is he ugly (looks like his father) but he's also a Conservative. His daughter Paulina was recently photographed with the Orange Menace at Mar-A-Lago. Hideous family.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | November 21, 2021 3:00 PM |
Which is so weird since his father was an NDPer and his sister in law is an NDP politician in Ontario, R55.

I cruised him but he didn't notice me.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | November 22, 2021 12:00 AM |
I’ve met the daughter Paulina. Her husband, golfer Dustin Johnson, attended Coastal Carolina University but he grew up a University of South Carolina football fan due to Columbia being his home town. While dating and since being married they have attended some games. She isn’t ugly but those are the most obviously fake tits I’ve ever seen in person.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | November 22, 2021 12:25 AM |
The Oilers won the Stanley Cup after Gretzky’s trade, and were last in the finals in 2006.
R17, Edmonton has one of the world’s best research facilities for many things, including heart disease and, in particular, diabetes. The University of Alberta is also a world leader in artificial intelligence. That said, one has to love winter to love Alberta, in general.

Alberta is the Texas of Canada. A confusing place. Full of greatness and innovation and $$$. Astounding natural beauty and so little creative art. Redneck, regressive, but still a bit of a wild west, wild card player. When they all start to dying and the economy fails - watch them elect a progressive government for a term. I hate Edmonton and Calgary - but they are fundamentally more honest than Toronto or Vancouver. Out for themselves. Gretzky's are gross. His father was a diddler. Treated like a king just for half creating Wayne. Never bought a drink again in his life. And never stopped drinking.
Wayne? Is there a bigger hose name in the hemisphere? Canadians have white trash too. They're not typically from the east coast neither. A drowned drunk east coaster at the bottom of a coal mine is an aristocrat compared to a Gretzky.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | November 22, 2021 2:17 AM |
What do the Gretzky possess?
by Anonymous | reply 64 | November 22, 2021 2:18 AM |
I agree with r63 about Alberta. I live in Burnaby now and sometimes miss Edmonton as you say it was more honest. I grew up on Vancouver island and the west coast is home for me but there were cool things about Edmonton. It was a really gritty place and that was fascinating. I lived in Calgary briefly too but really disliked it. I felt like everyone there was a try hard.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | November 22, 2021 2:21 AM |
But Gretzky isn't from Alberta, R64. He's an Ontario boy, from Brantford.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | November 22, 2021 2:25 AM |
I don’t think Alberta, as a whole, is any more redneck than any other part of Canada.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | November 22, 2021 2:53 AM |
Lol, are you Canadian, R67? Alberta is known across the country as being redneck.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | November 22, 2021 2:55 AM |
R68 Alberta is certainly redneck, but I'd argue that there are other places in the country that give Albert a run for its money. Interior BC? Saskatchewan?
by Anonymous | reply 69 | November 22, 2021 3:02 AM |
What about Messier, R3? He was the hottest of the lot. As for r69, no one lives in Saskatchewan so it can't give anywhere a run for the rednecks-as-percentage-of-populations stats. Interior BC could for sure though.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | November 22, 2021 3:21 AM |
Funny that Saskatoon is an okay place. It's kind of small, but it has a bit of an artsy vibe. I liked it and hated the rest of Saskatchewan.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | November 22, 2021 3:23 AM |
Edmonton is the last blue collar city in Canada. Spent 2 years there as a child whilst my dad did a postdoc at the U of A and I just remember winter being absolutely fucking frigid. I remember it being beautiful, though. Those big, blue prairie skies and he thunderstorms almost every night during the summer.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | November 22, 2021 3:24 AM |
Are there many rednecks in Nunavut?
by Anonymous | reply 73 | November 22, 2021 3:25 AM |
Yes, I am Canadian r68. Ontario’s north, the Gaspe, Winnipeg, parts is Saskatchewan, and BC’s interior are all just as, or even more redneck than Alberta. Try being Inuit on the streets of Montreal.
It’s a stereotype, but an inaccurate one.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | November 22, 2021 3:29 AM |
No, R73.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | November 22, 2021 3:29 AM |
R74, uh, no. Winnipeg has few conservative politicians and they usually vote NDP or Liberal, while Calgary and Edmonton do not. So no. All of Saskatchewan is redneck aside from Saskatoon. You're right about interior B.C. though.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | November 22, 2021 3:32 AM |
That's a bad photo of Gretzky at OP. His wife, Janet Jones, reminds me of Tawny Kitaen or Elle McPherson.
Gretzky was considered attractive back in the day.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | November 22, 2021 3:34 AM |
That’s a narrow definition r76. Federally, why would Albertans vote for parties against their interests?
A FN friend of mine did his graduate degree in Winnipeg. He and his teenaged sons found it incredibly racist and couldn’t wait to move back to Alberta. Friend is very involved in the Assembly of FN. Most racist cities, according to them, are Winnipeg, Regina, and Prince Albert.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | November 22, 2021 3:42 AM |
What does Regina rhyme with?
by Anonymous | reply 79 | November 22, 2021 3:44 AM |
In his heyday, Gretzky was not considered attractive. Mario Lemieux was.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | November 22, 2021 3:44 AM |
What kind of fool is the OP to make fun of someone's looks and, to illustrate, post a photo in which that person looks quite attractive?
Here's another one.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | November 22, 2021 3:48 AM |
Weird, R78, and my friends found the opposite. I've lived in Winnipeg and in Edmonton and I found Edmonton to be very redneck and sort of cultureless. Too many transient oil workers and lots of hard right conservatives, while Winnipeg seemed more open, more gay friendly, and more culturally diverse.
I know some FN people who were involved in the TRC at the U of M and their experience wasn't bad, they said Winnipeg was starting to take more pride in FN and Metis culture, which is good since it's a big part of their heritage. French culture is fairly prominent there too with lots of French immersion schools.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | November 22, 2021 3:50 AM |
Edmonton is so “hard right” that all but one of its MLAs is NDP.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | November 22, 2021 3:53 AM |
You can defend Alberta all day, R83 but the place is a shit-hole and deserves it's redneck reputation. I hear Brian Jean and Danielle Smith are gunning for Kenney's job. Fucking yikes and let Alberta separate is all I can say. Hopefully they take Sask. with them.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | November 22, 2021 4:00 AM |
R83 is defending Edmonton, not Alberta, and he's correct that the city generally votes left of centre. If you look at an electoral map Edmonton is a little progressive island in the larger sea of Alberta right wing fucknutitude.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | November 22, 2021 4:03 AM |
I don’t think Danielle Smith is interested in a return to politics r84. I also don’t think Brian Jean can win an election.
But you generally don’t understand Alberta. That’s pretty obvious.
I think Southern Alberta is far more conservative than Edmonton and northern Alberta. The area around Red Deer (central Alberta) is Bible belt country.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | November 22, 2021 4:09 AM |
I lived in Alberta, R86, right in downtown Edmonton. I haven't been there for a few years but I had a pretty good understanding of it. I found Edmonton very redneck, loads of oil workers from Fort Mac - some of the worst people you'd ever want to meet imo. I know it's more progressive than Calgary but still I'd never live there again - the entire province is a dumpster fire, worse than all aside from Saskatchewan and I've lived in three provinces and spent significant time in two more.
Smith announced the other day that she's running for UPC leadership. Whether or not she will win leadership is a different story.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | November 22, 2021 4:22 AM |
Smith said she would consider running if Kenney resigned. She’s not gunning for the position.
I have lived in Edmonton much longer than you. It’s not a redneck city. Most oil workers aren’t from Edmonton. Most of the people I interact with are professionals. None are rednecks.

R87, if Alberta is Texas, Saskatchewan is Florida. Both equally terrible in their own ways. Saskatchewan’s premier is a simple hick, and the province holds him up like he’s some genius. Anyway, Gretzky is and always has been butt ugly.
