They're so fucking horrible, everything I ever purchased from then fell apart in weeks and so I try to avoid them. Just this morning I researched and found some counter stools we'd been looking for. Professional quality, noted as solid with heavy capacity and stood-up to longterm use. They were on a company's website called Joss and Main.... So when I called them, guess who answers? "Wayfair Sales may I help you?" This tacky, trashy, Chinese-junk mart has cornered the internet when searching. Between them and Pinterest, I can no longer find anything of good quality where home items go!
Beware of Wayfair! WHY is it so fucking hard to avoid Wayfair when shopping for furniture items online?!?

They never really have anything I like. I’ve had better luck with Overstock and Heaven help me, Amazon.

If you like something you see on Wayfair, google it and you will find the same item from multiple sellers at much lower prices. If you are going to buy junk furniture you should not have to pay the high markup Wayfair charges.

It's not really the price, R2. Well not about everything. In this case I'm willing to pay a little more. My strategy is always to, if I can afford it, to buy the highest quality thing I can because I never, ever want to buy it again. Like with cookware, it's taken me years just to have a mediocre collection of professional All-Clad pots and pans. But even if the house burns down, I'm assuming I won't have to buy pots and pans again.
In this case, I want to avoid Wayfair because of their shitty shit. If I find the same thing someplace else, it's still going to be sub-par. But doing all kinds of searched to avoid these tacky online retailers is futile. I'll order things from Amazon. And I rather like ordering some furniture from World Market. Hardly high class, (but their stuff is really solid and we've had it for many years.). But this Wayfair crap, and the way they've flooded the search engines with their ads so that page after page is directing you either to them, or to one of their shell companies is really frustrating.

They really are the worst. Before I knew better I ordered white and black marble floor tiles from them for a checkerboard floor. They delivered gold slate. The delivery guys would or could not take this back on the spot and pushed it uphill to the tip of our very long driveway. I called to start a return with UPS and the woman who answered immediately said, with a tone of jaded experience, is this a Wayfair order?

I've only purchased "bullshit" stuff from Wayfair - lamps, rugs - which were totally fine. I did get a narrow open bookcase for my office and that was also perfectly fine. But I've never really purchased substantial furniture - couches and chairs, tables, bedroom furniture. It's not even totally a concern over quality -- it's that I can't examine it and even if they'll take it back, it would be a pain to send it back. I've been tempted plenty of times to buy something more substantial, but I haven't.

I ordered something from Joss and Main once. It showed up not at all looking like what it did in the catalog and, worse, although it said any idiot could put it together, I must be less than an idiot because I couldn't. Trying to return something to them was basically hell. I finally got it all done but it took more time than it was worth.
My recommendation: avoid Wayfair and all their twee-named subsidiaries at all cost.

Doesn't Wayfair traffic kids in their wardrobes?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 18, 2021 4:44 PM |
R5 - same for me. I only purchase basic/generic, easy-to-replace stuff from Wayfair (i.e., tea kettle, glassware or dishes, certain types of storage units). If I want more substantial furniture or furnishings, I look elsewhere and remain prepared to spend more money for quality and craftsmenship.

I bought a shelf from Wayfair once. The quality wasn't bad--it just didn't fit in the space I wanted it to.
They only way I could return it was to pay for return shipping (way too expensive)--unless I could find a problem with it.
So I sent back a picture with a tape measure showing that it was 1/2 inch lower than it stated it was (It wasn't but I positioned the tape measure to make it seem that way)--and they paid for return costs.

I actually bought a really nice chenille sofa from Wayfair about two years ago. I was really surprised how sturdy and comfortable it is (and its held up well so far). However, many others I've heard from have regretted furniture purchases from them. I guess I got lucky.

I needed a very specific sized dining table that was counter height. The only one that I could find that worked was from Wayfair. I fretted over that purchase for days before I pulled the trigger. So far it’s held up, but I made sure that it was solid wood and not particle board.

Some friends of mine ordered a huge, expensive area rug from Wayfair. The love it. A few days later they got delivery again. They paid for one and got two. Wayfair refuses to take the second one back. They were told they only have record of one purchase. The have no space for the second one and no use for it.

I bought a large area rug from Wayfair too and I love it. However, it was made by a good company and Wayfair just sold it. This was a long time ago, so not even sure if this was a third party vendor or one of Wayfair's collection of sellers.

Friends bought quite a lot of furniture through Wayfair and have been happy with their purchases.

I have bought a hammock and some garden stuff and a headboard for my guest room off Wayfair and it was all fine. I dont think I would use it buying the “big” furniture

I bought some wood furniture from there once and their was mold all over it. Never bought anything from there again and it was a hassle trying to return it because a special delivery service had to pick it up.

I bought 2 bistro chairs from Wayfair for my kitchen, they sent me 3 chairs but only charged me for 2.

Extra rug and chairs!
Even if they’re crap, it’s good to have a backup for those parties that get out of hand.

I only buy furniture at Ikea, I am happy for the moment.

I've bought a number of rugs from Wayfair and have been very happy with them. Not one issue.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 3, 2022 9:09 PM |
yes, i have been leery of buying anything from them. Plus, i hate their commercials.

Was that one that came with kids inside the furniture that you could purchase for trafficking?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 3, 2022 9:56 PM |
The African Baby Catalogue just isn’t the same since they took it over. Quality way down.

Bought a Kohler sink from them at a great price. It's beautiful. My contractor hasn't installed it yet so I guess we'll see if there are any problems later.

Believe it or not the Walmart website has furniture from a lot of sources and it's usually pretty resonable

I have bought quite a few items from Wayfair's classier cousin, Perigold, which features quality designer fabrics, furnishings, and household goods. I have purchased Schumacher and Sanderson fabrics, Wildwood lamps, Matouk bedding, and a Hooker armoire (I needed storage for my hookers!). When I ordered a Technovarm coffee maker that wouldn't work, I contacted them. They sent a new one immediately and without question. I didn't have to take photos of the item or send it back. I feel safe ordering from them because they do have excellent customer service.

The furniture is terrible. It’s cheap, it doesn’t last, and it’s uncomfortable.
Years ago, I purchased a silver toned clock. It looked fine online. After it arrived, I noticed that the dial was printed cardboard. (It was from Joss and Main, their supposedly higher end products.) I returned it. I’ll never buy anything from that company.

I bought a small side table from Wayfair, price was right but that fucking thing took forever to put together.

If it's good enough for Kelly Clarkson, it's good enough for you.

You CAN get good stuff from Wayfair, but it's a crapshoot and takes some luck. Ikea isn't uniformly better and there's cheap stuff there too. But I trust it more because it seems to be way more upfront about what you should expect.

i'd love to see Kelly Clarksons house full of her wayfair furniture and accessories.

I got some nice stuff to furnish my Apt with 8 years. So inexpensive I was amazed. It’s still holding up, but their prices have risen so much I don’t go there anymore.
