What new claims will Meghan claim this time?
Meghan Markle To Give New "Bombshell" Interview On Ellen

by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 17, 2021 4:13 PM |
If that's a clip from the show, Meghan looks hijus.
I wonder if this was filmed before the appeal material came put showing she and Harry tried to lie to the public and to the courts?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 17, 2021 4:14 PM |
So...they wanted a "private and quiet" life?...
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 17, 2021 4:18 PM |
[quote]Why is she so attention hungry?
Meh, why is anyone? It's just a thing that apparently millions of people have, judging by all the "influencers," and the whole celebrity industry is built around this stupid craving.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 17, 2021 4:19 PM |
Given how frail and ill HM is looking, this is terrible timing.
Philip died not long after the Oprah interview. If HM dies not long after the Ellen interview, Meghan will never be able to set foot in the UK again.
Not that she was planning to.

What's left? Molested?

Just two bullies shootin' the shit . . .
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 17, 2021 4:23 PM |
The God of Timing really hates Megs, doesn't he? HM looks like she's about to keep over any day, and there's Meghan bitching on American TV yet again.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 17, 2021 4:25 PM |
And she'll have to come back to the UK this time and face the wrath of the press and public. She pleaded her belly for Philip's funeral, but she has no such excuse for HM's.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 17, 2021 4:26 PM |
I guess she's gotta continue the tradition of bombshell interviews while a member of the royal family is very sick.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 17, 2021 4:27 PM |
"So, your staff are afraid of you, my staff are afraid of me, isn't that FUN?"
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 17, 2021 4:28 PM |
And DL has to continue its tradition of hating Markle. Why? Who knows? It's a thing, and it must never die.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 17, 2021 4:28 PM |
If the Queen dies, she'll just announce she's preggers and can't fly on a plane. Simple.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 17, 2021 4:29 PM |
MM needs to lower her flag and go away. Enough already. Really, who cares.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 17, 2021 4:29 PM |
I'd wager the BRF this time is just waiting for a bot more ammo.
I'd also wager that this one is instead going to focus on the miscarriage, family leave, women's voices . . . They know now that the Palace has taken the gloves off.
Also wonder if she's gotten wind of an appeal court decision and if the broadcast was held until she knew one way or the other?
Either way, expect the sound of 100 violins.

by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 17, 2021 4:31 PM |
R14 Maybe it has to do with the fact that she's not actually that popular (both in the UK and US)?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 17, 2021 4:31 PM |
This is how you know her husband is a giant wuss. His grandmother is ill but he doesn't ask his wife to shut her mouth until after she recovers. "What Megan wants, Megan gets." Harry's disgusting for saying this and allowing it.
They'll cause another grandparent to suffer in Hope's they can pretend they had a "close" relationship with them after they pass away then have their hands out for inheritance.
Just Harry and the wife are revolting.

by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 17, 2021 4:34 PM |
This is why I don't think she'll have much luck finding a mega-rich replacement husband. Who among that set wants a wife who is pathologically incapable of not speaking to the press?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 17, 2021 4:34 PM |
I think she is going to finally reveal that Princess Charlotte tried to poison her celery smoothie.

Wait, I'm fucking shocked! Is Ellen still on the air?!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 17, 2021 4:35 PM |
R11 No, doesn't have to. Someone has to stay home with the kids. The UK and the BRF don't want her and she doesn't want them. No biggie. It's Harry who's going to face the cold shoulder, especially after he was exposed as lying to the public about his involvement in a book that trashed his family and that was obviously planned before the wedding.

Dora can stay with the kids. Meghan must go to the funeral so she can be seen. If she's not next to Duchess Kate, she'll scream about racism.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 17, 2021 4:38 PM |
She doesn't have to stay home. They could bring Archie and Lili to the UK at this point. OR, they could leave the children for a few days with Doria and whatever nanny they're employing. If Meghan stays home, it's because she's afraid to face the press and public, and the "won't someone please think about the children" excuse won't cover that up.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 17, 2021 4:39 PM |
In the clip that was released, she comes across as a phony with her forced bubbly voice and body language. She can try to act as ebullient as she wants, she still is fake as fuck. And an asshole.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 17, 2021 4:40 PM |
Just Harry deserves every bit of scorn, R27. He's a shitbag. Markle is a typical C list actress so her behavior doesn't shock me. Just Harry's does. He hasn't grown up at all since he was getting drunk and embarrassing his family by dressing up in his Nazi uniform. He just found more public and harmful ways to hurt them.
Balding, ginger bitch.

I would bet my life on Meghan attending the funeral. It will be attended by presidents, Prime Ministers, diplomats, crowned monarchs: all those she yearns to be seen amongst. There is no way she will miss it.

Someone being investigated for bullying staff going on Ellen? She really does make some awful choices.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 17, 2021 5:13 PM |
If she’s appearing on Ellen, I doubt it will be a bombshell interview like Oprah. We are into law-of-diminishing-returns territory: there is not much she can say worse than the racism claims.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | November 17, 2021 5:13 PM |
Meghan and Ellen are going to play Tuba Toothpaste before the bombshell goes off!
Tuba Toothpaste: Answering a trivia question incorrectly requires a contestant to press up to 3 of 10 buttons that resemble tuba valves. One button blasts toothpaste into the contestant's face and eliminates them. The trivia questions are extremely difficult in order to give everyone a chance of losing.

Meghan Markle, girl from an embarrassing moneyless family meets and becomes engaged to a Prince. The Prince's family is appalled and tries to talk him out of it by hinting that any baby of theirs would be un-white and feral. Prince takes this the wrong way and has a cigarette and a drink while wearing a swastika armband. Meghan suddenly realizes that her Prince will never be King and attention is not being paid. She finds the largest bottle of paracetamol (tylenol to you yanks) in her Frogmore cabinet and threatens to swallow a couple if the Prince's family doesn't curtsey to her.
The couple move to America to be closer to the Price is Right studio, Oprah, Ellen, and legal marijuana.

In Latin America we have a phrase that says. "Aunque la mona se vista de seda, mona se queda," which the translation is: "Even if the monkey wears silk, it's still a monkey." It is often used when someone pretends to have more class (upwards) or finer taste than the facts. In other words, no matter how hard you try, you can't just buy class.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | November 17, 2021 5:27 PM |
I doubt this will be a hard hitting interview. This is a PR exercise to try and increase her profile and public standing in the US. She wants to run for office. I also suspect this was filmed a few weeks ago.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | November 17, 2021 5:28 PM |
Total panic move.
She knows she's busted. She knows what happened last week. She knows what the bullying investigation will find. She knows Bowers is coming. She knows who he approached for interviews. She knows, more than anybody, what could go in that books that could be true. It all gets worse from here.
Total panic move. You don't rush out with an interview while there's so much instability going on with regard to the Queen's health unless you're absolutely bricking it.

At least Harry isn't joining her. Did he get a clue?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | November 17, 2021 5:38 PM |
Wow.
Of course, I don’t think this appearance will be lobbing any grenades. Ellen is her “soft” avenue, appealing to frau types who are convinced already. Her ruffly blouse, high-pitched voice and giggles present humble mom Meghan. Where’s deep-voiced (a la Elizabeth Holmes, her sister in psycho duplicity) and black pantsuit?

Yes, R54, we too have a saying, in English: "Like putting lipstick on a pig..."Como ponerle pintalabios a un cerdo"
by Anonymous | reply 64 | November 17, 2021 6:10 PM |
R56 I think this was probably filmed before the revelations came out in court: the revelations that certain sectors of the US media are trying to "downplay." Ellen generally films episodes weeks in advance. I think it's a questionable move to go on a show hosted by someone who has been outed as a toxic mess when you yourself have been outed as a toxic mess.
The first few months of the post-Oprah interview were focused on Harry, not I think she's trying to get the limelight back. It's interesting because there are all these theories about what they wanted out of Megxit (how sexist of me to use that term). I really do think they expected the royals to come grovelling after the Oprah interview and cave to their half-in/half-out demands. That didn't happen and it required a game plan change. I do think Meghan always intended to move to the US and to milk her titles to the hilt. I also suspect she had (and still has) political ambitions. I suspect she is going to use her titles to open as many doors as she can before she eventually drops them to make a run for something.
That being said, They are overdoing it. The more people see of them the more tired they are getting of them. The more they talk, the more their popularity seems to take a hit. It's ironic had they just said, we left the royal family amicably, we love them, but we to forge our own path doing humanitarian work and political activism and we know that's not compatible with royal life, things might be better for them. By trying to play victims, by attacking the royals, by bringing in the race card they have made themselves divisive. These two overplay there hand far too often, but I suspect because they are both so ego driven they don't see it.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | November 17, 2021 6:18 PM |
They have NO CONCERNS about ANYBODY but THEMSELVES. appauling couple.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | November 17, 2021 6:25 PM |
I'm sure this has nothing whatsoever to do with all the bad press she's getting now that it's been revealed she perjured herself in her court case and flat-out lied to everyone about planting stories for the Scobie book. She just felt like showing her bubbly and cheerful side this week for no special reason!
by Anonymous | reply 67 | November 17, 2021 6:35 PM |
MM cannot have anyone else get more publicity than she does.
The Queen has health problems which draws a lot of public attention.
Therefore MM must come out with attention seeking stuff.
Just as she did when Prince Philip was ill and died.
MM is relentless, never ending, attention seeking noise.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | November 17, 2021 6:47 PM |
Bet you any money she will be laying on the Queen love with a trowel.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | November 17, 2021 6:50 PM |
I don't think this has much to do with the queen's illness, r68. Even she is not so stupid as to think she can compete with teh Queen herself.
It has mostly to do with the bad press she's getting from her court case.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | November 17, 2021 6:51 PM |
She won't successful running for office. She's done in California. She might pick up a congressional seat somewhere but it's too lowly for her to take. She thinks she's Governor or Senator for her first run for office and it's going to be a disaster wherever she tries a politics grift.
She is not likable. She doesn't wear well. People don't warm to her. For a politician, it's the kiss of death.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | November 17, 2021 7:14 PM |
Why is she even running for office? She has no political experience. She worked for the US Embassy in Argentina, but only because her uncle pulled some strings. Does that mean anyone can run for office nowadays? Well but again, AOC was a bartender, and both Reagan and Arnold were actors, so I guess you can. Good job, America.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | November 17, 2021 7:19 PM |
R72 in fairness isn't officially running for office that's just the rumor. I doubt this is going to be an explosive interview. I think this going to be about building up brand Meghan. I'm sure they'll touch upon things in a more indirect manner and probably address the Queen's health. The rumour is this was filmed prior to their trip to NYC last week.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | November 17, 2021 7:35 PM |

She’s so dislikable, you forget how boring she is. These clips don’t augur well for a future as a talk show raconteur. Her amazing unpleasantness is the only thing that makes her interesting. That broken cat story is almost more tedious than her accounts of her Sizzler outings.

R81 I even read the story about it. It says that they met there, Ellen encouraged her to buy the dog, they chatted, that was it. They didn't become friends. It was a standard "moment" we all have with celebrities when you live in LA.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | November 17, 2021 9:40 PM |
oops. I shouldn't have said funny at r83 , I meant funny off, as in it is quite clear they were strangers.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | November 17, 2021 9:45 PM |
R83 exactly. Why would Ellen remember? I've had "moments" with celebrities around town, even extended ones. I wouldn't expect them to remember me.

Is the dog in question the same one that Megsy abandoned in Canada to run off and marry her idiot prince?
by Anonymous | reply 86 | November 17, 2021 10:17 PM |
I not only don't think this will be a "bombshell", I thin it is fully intended to function as the "anti-bombshell".
It's true these shows are produced weeks in advance, but they can be edited later. That's what happened with Oprah. They filmed it in February but held it till the Summary Judgement was announced.
Then, news of the Oprah interview got leaked to ITV, and before it could air, the news of the bullying report was leaked, and the Queen announced she was removing their royal patronages and Harry's military appointments.
They hastily re-edited the interview, which Harry later said he joined "in a fit of temper".
So, after the damning shit went public a couple of weeks ago that showed both her and Harry as perjurers and liars, I'm sure there was time to do a bit of re-writing on this.
My guess is that this is Meghan's attempt to show what a nice girl she really is, lay on what she believes is her charm, and backpedal as fast as she can from the Avenging Fury act of the Oprah interview.
For one thing, no one believes it now. For another, it's played out. And lastly, she knows now the Palace isn't playing kid gloves any more and that bullying report is waiting in the wings.
So this will be just Miss Ordinary Folk Duchess. This will try to offset the image of the calculating bitch who lied to the court and the public.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | November 17, 2021 10:29 PM |
Something nice: she's wearing an outfit that looks good on her. With her track record, the next one will be...March 2022?
by Anonymous | reply 88 | November 17, 2021 10:32 PM |
R87 the damning shit didn't hit a couple of weeks ago, it hit last week and it took everybody by surprise. Before then media had been pretty much pleasantly if uncharacteristically Markle free. Plus, she was swanning around New York last week. If you had this interview pre shot and in the can you would be marketing the hell out of it and selling the commercial time for as much as you could command.
But I agree with your theories about everything else.
Anyway, The Mail will have it all figured out by tomorrow... they'll find crew and audience members etc. It's not like Ellen's production team will presumably be happy to speak, given what a great boss she is.

And there’s no excuse for getting that fat just because she was pregnant six months ago. Doctors advise not to gain more than 20 lbs during pregnancy. The baby doesn’t NEED its mother to get gigantic to be healthy. It’s a great big load of bullshit. IIRC a pregnant woman only needs an extra 300 calories beyond a healthy diet. So she shouldn’t have had that much to lose in the first place.

Well, they did make Oprah look like the fool when they demonstrably lied during the interview and, as either an unprepared interviewer or one willing to help ignore their grift until she got burned by their lies, I suspect she's not returning calls. I mean, there were numerous publications that had run contemporaneous accounts that were outright lies she let go, not to mention nodding to their false victim narrative. Rich people sitting around talking how, in their febrile imaginations, had been done WRONG and life experienced Oprah fell for it like a pedophile offering candy to a 6 year old.
I'm sure their numbers are blocked so she's not reminded how she and Tyler Perry got steamrolled by Meghan's faux everything.
Didn't she have to turn her private plane around from a trip to Hawaii to deal with the Sussex's fallout about their habitual lying, despite her carte blanche "Oh, yes. Of course" when all hell broke looae before ITV broadcast it?

There were multiple veterans at an event this week that had to be restrained when they told the ginger haired one to go back home. Prince Harry/"Veterans Day" at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey
ENTERTAINMENT LAWYER 11/15 **2**
As a follow up to the ginger haired one being told to go home by veterans. The reason for it was because they didn't want to be part of the dog and pony show which clearly became evident with all the camera and sound guys running around. Someone then asked a veteran to word something differently. That is when they lost it and told him to go back to his own country. Do you think that will make the special?

On Ellen's original show, there's an episode where before she comes out she dates a guy whose mindset is stuck in childhood. one of the first signs is that he wants to watch an episode of "Full House" with her, but she had to deliver a line praising it as she suggested it was inapporpriate for him to watch it: "'Full House'? GREAT SHOW! But isn't it a little young for you?"
She delivered the "GREAT SHOW!" line in this voice I always can hear now when's she's being fake (which is often). She is the phoniest of balonies.

I doubt it's going to be explosive. This is going to be pure PR to try and Meghan seem "normal" and not an attention whore. The reason I say this is because there is a rumour going around that a follow up interview with Oprah in the works to correspond with Harry's book next year.

I hope Oprah is done with them.

Fatty, fat, fat! I don't get why Meghan isn't thin based on all her resources. Lillibet has been around for 6 months now. Plenty of time to lose weight in a "healthy and organic" fashion. She has the best chefs, a gym, a pool, a yoga studio. Doria has a much better body than Meghan does, so it's not an age thing.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | November 18, 2021 3:20 AM |
Ellen isn't a hard hitting show. No one drops a bombshell on it. Plus with the audience, anything truly juicy would've been leaked
by Anonymous | reply 110 | November 18, 2021 3:25 AM |
I agree that this likely won't be bombshell filled. This seems like yet another relaunch. Of course Meghan is going to go on Ellen because she's "friendly" with Ellen and basically each is doing a favour for the other. Now, if Meghan was smart, she would try to start to move away from the royal connections and actually show what she has to offer besides royal dirt. They will likely touch upon the tabloids, social media hate etc. However, with her case still pending she'd be an idiot if she starts spilling too much about her private life with the family and inlaws.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | November 18, 2021 3:36 AM |
I have a feeling that she's not going to be releasing any "bombshell" information. It sounds like a PR gig where she will try to make herself seem more likable and relatable. (She must have sensed a growing backlash against her on social media.). Perhaps Ellen will come up with some silly bit where Ellen goes "shopping at Target with the Duchess" or something like that.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | November 18, 2021 3:37 AM |
Ellen is a PR show. Celebs (and some politicians) go on to promote themselves and their work and to look human. There are no two ways about it though, going from Oprah to Ellen is a downgrade.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | November 18, 2021 3:39 AM |
Agree that this is a 'Winning Hearts And Minds' PR exercise focused on middle-America, and and to tipex out any damage from the perjury -- which Middle America mostly wouldn't have heard about. PR is Meghan: Megan is PR. Image is all she gives a rat's arse about.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | November 18, 2021 3:39 AM |
Michelle Obama went on Ellen, and they did a bit where they went shopping together at CVS. And since Meghan likes to copy Michelle, ...
by Anonymous | reply 115 | November 18, 2021 3:40 AM |
There is no way Meghan would have agreed to do this unless she controls the narrative. We know that she and Harry are paranoid and obsessive about anything that doesn't make them look good. When that NYT interview went slightly off script last week when the reporter asked her about the court case, you could tell she was pissed.
R115 Michelle, Hillary, Elizabeth Warren and numerous other democrats have appeared on Ellen. It is a launching ground for campaigns. Interestingly, Michelle is allegedly no longer on speaking terms with Ellen.

R119 Once the bullying claims came out about Ellen, Michelle allegedly cut all ties. Similarly, it appears after the Oprah interview Michelle cut communication (the very limited amount there was) with Meghan and Harry. Finally, she apparently has never been a fan of Oprah but Barack knows he was elected President in part due to Oprah's support.

by Anonymous | reply 129 | November 18, 2021 4:57 AM |
As predicted, this interview was Meghan's Likable Me moment. The interview didn't even get a top of the page headline in the DM. Halfway down the page, the title of the article is that Meghan reveals that . . . five-month old Lilibet is teething.
This is MM aiming to dial back the mistakes from the Oprah interview that not only failed to bring the monarchy down, but exposed her willingness to lie publicly of it supported her sob story about life as The Prisoner of Zenda.
I.doubt there are going to be any more attempts to lob grenades at the BRF by Meghan. She just got exposed as a conniving liar by those court papers, landing just this side of perjury.
They shot their wad on that and it made the Palace take the gloves off and greenlight Knauf to pull the curtain aside. The bullying report is pending. The Queen is circling the drain. They don't want to piss off Charles any further, as the minute HM dies, he becomes King, with the power to take away the HRHs that the Sussex kids will get when he finally gets the top job.
The odd thing is, Meghan's Likable Me is just as fundamentally unlikable as her other Mes.

But, why would a now proven liar sit down to be interviewed by someone now known to be a liar & who lost their job in part for their lying? Why would someone being intensely investigated for bullying do a sit down with someone who lost their job & public favor for bullying? And saying what close friends they are, as in birds of a feather. Just looking at this through sleep addled eyes I'm saying..ooh bad move. Yup, Birds of a Feather. Thanks Meghan for confirming who you are, by the company you keep.

Oh deah deah deah - Meghan has revealed what a great relationship she and Dimwit have with (wait for it) . . . Princess Eugenie.
Well, we all suspected who the royal mole was, didn't we?
They made a foursome of it with Euge and Jack the last Halloween night before the Harkles left for Canada. Which meant, of course, that Euge and Jack were privy to what was really going on and how much dirt and bridge burning lay in front of them.
And Euge is now revealed as the royal BFF of a perjurer who trashed the family whilst Granddad was dying and put the boot into the next two kings and the monarchy from which Euge herself derived so much privilege.
We all know Euge hates Charles' guts for how much he disliked her train wreck of a mother, and for stopping her bellend of a father's 11th hour attempt to shove her and Bea onto the royal gravy train as "senior working royals". Allying herself with the two traitors was by way of a thinly veiled payback.
With the "Dear Cousins" now revealed as liars who connived at perjury, and a bullying investigation waiting to break over Meghan's many weaves, Euge's taste in associates is clearly a trait inherited along the paternal line.
Revenge has a strange way of doubling back on the sender.

From Tominey:
We’ve had actress Meghan, princess Meghan, victim Meghan and multi-millionaire Montecito Meghan, so viewers could have been forgiven for wondering which Meghan they were going to get on Ellen DeGeneres’s sofa.
Was this going to be the Meghan of Tom Bradby fame, who tearfully nibbled her lip and told the world nobody had asked if she was okay? Or was it going to be the defiant Duchess who appeared on Oprah, boldly insisting that the racist royals had denied Archie a title because of the colour of his skin?
As she shared kooky stories about alighting her “very, very old” Ford Explorer Sport through the trunk when the driver’s door stopped opening, it soon became apparent that we were going to be treated to “cuddly Meghan”, the giggly girl next door in the £1,336 blouse.

From a Telegraph review:
As a chapter in the history of the Royal Family the moment Ellen DeGeneres instructed the Duchess of Sussex to “do a squat” in broad daylight – and the Duchess complied – will undoubtedly go down in the annals. As TV, it was simply one more surreal twist in a cheesy and plastic interview which felt like the very opposite of Meghan and Harry’s very serious sit-down with Oprah Winfrey in March.
“Mommy wants some heat,” she told a man selling tabasco sauce. “Eat like a chipmunk,” commanded Ellen, smiling like a shark. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and wife to sixth in line to the throne, began to munch… like a chipmunk.

In reality, the story doesn’t even deserve a snort, It reminds me of that old Tom Cruise story I’ve heard before. When he was starting out, he attended a guys night in type of get-together. He acted awkwardly at first, but then studied the room and started behaving in a way HE thought would pass for manly and macho, not knowing other guests were well aware of his phoniness. Markle is similar: you can see the wheels turning in her mind “Ok, Megsy, how would you act if something was funny? Think, think, I got it! Deep breath, 3-2-1 Go!”

On the plus side, the red dress she was wearing during the cringeworthy prank suited her and was pretty.
Both Meghan and Kate should embrace shoulder-length hair. Kate’s today looked almost 80s in a bad way, Meghan’s overwhelms her. (It’s Breck Girl for Breck shampoo, not Brecht Girl.)

The hair drives me nuts. As befits her role, Kate should be wearing something more mature and dignified. Meghan, it sort of doesn't matter anymore.

R227 Well the stay at home mother market (which mostly white) are overwhelmingly republican now so it probably won't help her.
I think the only people this interview will play well to is those who already really like her. To most people, it'll be met with indifference and to her critics, it's a field day of material.
I agree with Camilla Tominey that this was an attempt by Meghan to reframe her PR, to appear "saintly" and relatable and it will land with mix results and likely give her critics a lot of fodder.
I also think any more bombshells about the Royals will be seen to come from Harry and not her. While there is no doubt she is running operations, her brand has been damaged by royal attacks. Better Harry should take the fall, also makes it easier if/when she finally leaves him. BEcause the next logical step for her fourth major rebrand is single mother escaping the ashed of an "abusive marriage."

With friends like Ellen, Meghan doesn't need enemies. The show made Meghan look like a fool.
Disagree on Kate's hair being too youthful. It was rather incredibly glamorous. Everyone seems to forget that she often eears it up for both day and evening. It suited the mermaidish look of the gown and was soft without being messy. She looked fabulous.
It's just too bad the Queen didn't lend her the earrings made from the Cambridge emeralds to ho with the dress, and really burn Meghan's arse.
Ffs, she isn't a crone and can still have fun letting long hair show.
Meghan's hair isn't a problem because it's long and therefore ipso facto too youthful.
It's a problem because it's badly groomed, unshaped, totally unsuited to her face and body proportions, and glaringly composed of weaves and extensions. It's as inauthentic as she is.
Kate's hair was fucking gorgeous that night. It MADE the look that night.
Kaye wears the hair and gown. They don't wear her.
And God what a contrast as Meghan made a fool of herself on cheap tv with a host accused of bullying her staff just like Meghan has. Maybe they "bonded" over it.

by Anonymous | reply 245 | November 19, 2021 11:26 AM |
The problem with the long hair on Kate and Meghan isn’t that it’s too youthful (they are comparatively youthful!) it’s that neither is suited to it. Meghan’s is just too BIG, she’s not a statuesque person and doesn’t have prominent features, so it overwhelms her and it’s all you can see. Kate is so polished otherwise that the long hair doesn’t fit. And her hair last night was much too close to 80s crimping. Hers looks best as a blowout with easy movement, not curled—it’s just too girlish when she dresses so elegantly and given her role. They’re both at a tough age where they’re trying to look both elegantly glamorous and youthfully sexy, and I think that’s leading to a hair overdose…
by Anonymous | reply 246 | November 19, 2021 12:48 PM |
What I love about Kate is that she is capable of looking stunning without it looking as if she is crying for attention. I saw the clip of her arriving at the Royal Variety performance, and she looked beautiful and had obviously made a lot of effort, but there is a minimum of preening. Both She and William are able to show (or perhaps convincingly feign) interest in others and not make the events they attend be solely about them. The people they meet are always given a bit of limelight which they normaly wouldn’t receive.
by Anonymous | reply 247 | November 19, 2021 1:03 PM |
I still wish someone would teach William to button his damned jacket.
by Anonymous | reply 248 | November 19, 2021 1:22 PM |
I am struck that Ellen did that to her.
That squat - hands on both fat hips - bluntly, she looked like she was taking a shit in the woods or a peasant making stool in the potato field.
It was undignified for anybody.
It was not helpful to her image to even ask, so you wonder, why did her "friend" Ellen do it? When they looked at it in the edit, why didn't they edit around it? She looked like a damned fool (I don't even like her and I feel sorry for somebody hitting bottom like that.) No one thoughtful looked at that moment - with the baby bottle a close second - and thought "this will help win people over." No forty year old woman with any self respect or common sense does that. Why couldn't the Ellen show resist, either telling or showing?
You wonder if Ellen's epiphany about kindness has faded because that was a shitty thing to do. I am hugely critical of her but I never thought she'd be so cluelessly out of touch with how bad that would make her look.
Della?

by Anonymous | reply 251 | November 19, 2021 1:35 PM |
R250 Ellen is a vicious bitch and Meghan should have known better than to trust her. Meghan didn't look "relatable" - she looked silly.
Between this cringeworthy interview and her exposure as a would-be perjurer, it's clear that Meghan hasn't a fucking clue how she looks or how to fix what's wrong. Either she is getting really bad advice, or she's getting good advice and refusing to heed it.
Which is, by the way, what she did with the advice of experienced court hands that were put on staff to help her navigate the often treacherous royal waters.
And Diana, by the way, had the same problem. She always felt that her "instincts" were a better guide.
And those "instincts" led her to Dodi Fayed, a real class act.

I wonder sometimes if Markle’s apparent willingness to degrade herself in this way is just another attempt at a shakedown of the royal family, ie., ‘Give me a large sum of money to go away, or I’ll continue to tarnish you by association.’
But maybe that’s too fanciful.

R247 & R251 I think one of the reasons why I like the Queen, Kate and even Camilla is that they never try to be more than what they are. None of them seek to lecture or try and look intellectual. Kate was smart in that it has taken her a decade of royal life to really find her niche and her style (I still will not forgive her for the wedge shoes she insisted on for the first few years in royal life). She is playing the long-term game which is what you have to do when you're royal.
R255 In fairness, pretty much the whole British Press is having a field day with Meghan today.
R258 No, I think this was a PR move to try and make Meghan look more relatable, which almost always is a mistake. Celebrities that have to try and and convince people they are down-to-Earth usually means they are not and when they try to come off as disingenuous. They only thing we should take away from this is that the Sussexes know their brand is in trouble even in the US and the stuff that has come out in court has damaged Meghan's reputation and they are now in damage control mode.

How much do you want to bet that this is being watched at the various palace's and family residences on a continuous loop and family members are laughing their asses off. ^* Kate has actually worn her hair close to that length at ssf ome point. It's all right, but frankly, CC herself is starting to look hard.
Kate is a future Queen. She's developing an instantly identifiable look, and her beautiful, thick, glossy long hair is her trademark, the anchor, along with her slender height, of that look.
She's doing just fine and lately seems to have upped her fashion game. She's looking more like a star with every passing week.
And, her husband probably adores the long hair. So, I'm guessing, does the British public.
There's no reason for her to cut it. CC has no future position as a royal (in fact she isn't royal at all, she's styled a princess but with no HRH). She can play with her image all she likes.
And so can Meghan, who needs that cut, shaping, and shift far more than Kate does.

Poetry from a DM commenter
There was a narcissist called Markle,
who feared she was losing her sparkle.
So she danced a strange jig, just like Peppa Pig,
and passers by started to startle. ...
For a prince she determined to marry,
and hooked a poor chump known as Harry.
Now she has cash, that she just loves to splash
on diamonds too heavy to carry.

Well, that was quite the "bombshell", wasn't it?
I imagine American Sen. Gillebrand is wiping some egg off her face.
So is Jutsice Warby, even if his decision stands. Hey, how ABOUT that "anguished daughter" you fell for, eh?
So are Meghan's legal counsel, who now go about under suspicion of suborning Meghan's attempt to lie to the court.
So is the Queen for leaving Harry his ducal title so Meghan can disgrace the name of Sussex (it's a real place with real people in it).
So is the publisher of that staggeringly bad AND financial loser of her "book".
Then there's Princess Eugenie, oozing cousinly affection.
Even Oprah, despite the $7 million she got for the interview, has some egg left on her face as it turned out she just gave Meghan a platform for clues and slander.
Did I forget to mention Gloria Steinem? And that "linked not ranked" wristband she gave Meghan?
And Tyler Perry, whose kindness Meghan repaid by treating his staff the way she did her own back at the Palace?
Ooops. Forgot the Archbishop of Canterbury, also taken in by her before having to correct publicly one of her Oprah lies.
I think we might have to add Serena Williams, who at least appeared to have bailed fast.
Eh, the NY TIMES, trying like hell not to make too fine a point of the clear attempt at connivance and perjury of its darling mixed race duchess.
And the biggest fool of them all covered in egg from head to foot: Harry Windsor.
Ironically, only Ellen DeGeneres will come out alright after a public encounter with Meghan, because everyone knew Ellen was a psycho bitch.
You'd think that alone would open ears everywhere to the sound of pennies dropping.
The only Post-Meghan winners?
The Cambridges.

I've refrained from commenting until I actually saw the interview, but now that I have, it just makes me feel awkward. Does Ellen hate her even more than she hates her own staff? Why would she make Meghan partake in all those weird, belittling activities? It wasn't even funny!
My biggest question is: why didn't Meghan say no, or ease-off on the antics a bit? She went into this farce with gusto, making herself look like an idiot in the process. Is she that desperate to be liked that she'll do literally anything? I gather this Ellen saga has gone down better in the U.S. than the U.K., so maybe it's a cultural thing, but I can't see any positives.
by Anonymous | reply 290 | November 20, 2021 11:44 AM |
I don't think that Meghan humiliated herself during the stunt. The idea was to show what a good sport and regular gal she was. The real butts of the joke were those poor vendors who were stuck there on camera and had to know they were being filmed. Ellen is clearly a sadist. i thought it was a very cynical, calculated enterprise' and found it unpleasant to watch but the appearance reinforced Meghan's association with family leave and ended with handing over a nice fat check to someone running a charity.
Meghan is a phony in a city of obscenely wealthy phonies and image makers. That's why she's happy at last.
by Anonymous | reply 291 | November 20, 2021 12:03 PM |
R290 Meghan allowed it because she was trying to prove that she's just a sort of upgraded suburban Soccer Mom, and not the haughty, bitchy, conniving liar she was outed as.
It went down worse in the UK because we already knew Meghan for what she was, and the legal case is in a UK court, so UK media were all over that, anyway.
Her little prank with Gillebrand in NY got more attention stateside, and a good bit of it unpleasant.
Gillebrand is married to a Brit, which may be why Meghan thought Gillebrand an easy entry point. Instead, Gillebrand is taking the heat from outraged colleagues whose private contact numbers the formless Gillebrand gave to La Duchesse.
Who blocked her own number as she called them, trying to use a British royal title as a gateway into American politics via pending legislation in Congress.
And that's Meghan all over: making crafty moves without seeing the steel jaws of the trap under her foot.
Luckily, she's by all odds going to win this appeal (or rather, ANL is going to lose it), so she'll regain some cover for awhile.

And now, the stateside view. Gillebrand is disliked for insisting on former Sen, Al Franken's resignation in light of polistically motivated sexual harassment allegations.. Her presidential run was a joke. If she ruffled the feathers of some Republican women, no one cares other than Fox News. The Daily Mail is not a reliable source of information on US politics. It talks about Harry's disinformation commission as if he were a major player. The reality is that most of those proposals had been floating around for years. It's doubtful anyone on that commission other than the academics on the panel did any real work.

The Daily Mail isn't trying to comment on US politics r295, it's just reporting what an idiot Harry is, especially for assuming he's a player. In any case, the US-focused articles in the Daily Mail are written by American staff in the US.

The game Ellen and Meghan were playing reminded me of the sort of childish games women are forced to participate in at bridal and baby showers (at which point I feel compelled to come up with an excuse to leave.) Only idiots and children find these antics humorous. It's actually an insult to women (the target audience for the stunt) that Meghan thought this would make her more seem more relatable and likable to females. Just go away already, duchess. You are transparent and vulgar.

Remember on Letterman’s show he used to have Rupert (?), the guy who owned a nearby souvenir shop, go around with a earpiece and have him repeat whatever Letterman told him to say? It was funny because Rupert said everything in a monotone and he came off looking like a robot or maybe someone who was mentally deficient.
Our gal Megs threw herself into it wholeheartedly, emoting with great energy like the actress she is. So it kinda pointed out that she can fake enthusiasm and emotion very convincingly. It probably wasn’t a good idea to make that so obvious.
by Anonymous | reply 300 | November 20, 2021 3:04 PM |
Meghan wasn't tricked into this, she ASKED to do it according to the source I read. She thinks the bit is hilarious. Clearly it's Meghans attempt to connect to the little people. "Look, I may be a Duchess but I am bringing fresh air and humor into the fusty institution, American style. Oh, and did I mention I'm a Duchess?"
What R300 said is right--it was funny on Letterman because the guy was devoid of affect. Meghan played it like it was an improv exercise so she could show off her (minimal) acting ability , showing off being the point.
by Anonymous | reply 301 | November 20, 2021 3:21 PM |
The Daily Mail may not be the TIMES bit it's more than a scandal sheet. It broke stories that the BRF and other entities denied and pooh-poohed, but that eventually turned out to be true.
It is also Britain's most read paper, and if you think the celebrities who moan about it don't know that, think again.
It's when they disappear completely from the DM's front pages that they know they're in trouble.
Without the DM, Meghan would have gotten away with quite a bit more than she should have.
And that's why she hates them.
by Anonymous | reply 302 | November 20, 2021 3:56 PM |
The Daily Mail under editor Geordie Greig has actually not been a bad paper, but Greig has just been shoved out in favour of the Mail on Sunday editor (a role he previously served in himself). This is supposedly to integrate the print and online versions.
It's easy to dismiss the Mail as a scandal sheet, but the print version is more political scandal focused, very uptight middle class. The days of the Daily Mail as a nasty, right-wing propaganda sheet are over though, I think.
Simply dismissing the Mail just doesn't work.

The Daily Mail called the Aspen Institute a right-wing think tank, which is not how anyone who is not an insane MAGA thinks about it. Justice John Paul Stevens, appointed to the Supreme Court by a Republican, taught summer seminars there for years. They also spoke of the Disinformation Commission as Harry's commission and hinted that one member, Chris Krebs, was disgraced because he was fired in November by Trump for protecting election security and denying the presence of fraud.
Gillibrand is a showboat and an idiot but no one other than Fox bizarro world cares about her association with Meghan. If she inconvenienced Susan Collins, Marsha Blackburn, Joni Ernst or Cindy Hyde Smith, Gillibrand's approval ratings would go through the roof.
Defend the DM as much as you like. The political stories about the US miss the mark. They're shaped to magnify every mishap into a scandal for people the publisher dislikes.
by Anonymous | reply 306 | November 20, 2021 7:24 PM |
I hate the Daily Mail because of it's right-wing view point, however, it actually does actually get a lot of the behind the scenes scoops right about the royals and other celebrities, its sources are actually fairly solid.
There is a rumour going around that Ellen wanted Harry not Meghan to appear on the show but it was changed last minute.
As for reception. The problem for Meghan is, no one watches Ellen anymore. It'll play well to the crowd that already like her and that's about it. They are now just celebrities and I can't see the interest lasting in them for too much longer. Next year there will likely be a Netflix documentary and Harry's book but their credibility is so damaged in the UK very few people will take their claims seriously, and I sense their popularity in the US is also on the wane. It says something they've basically relaunched themselves three times this year alone. It's not just the UK press btw, the European press all have turned on them now. There is only so long the US press can hold off.

The Daily Mail is the main source I have for major news in the U.S. They must pay their stringers well and have a lot of them because they seriously have more details and have them faster than U.S. newspapers. The Guardian also has good articles on U.S. issues--I live near Paradise California and the Guardian was right there and still, years later, has reports on the area.
And these papers aren't even paywalled like all the major media outlets in the U.S.
by Anonymous | reply 308 | November 20, 2021 8:31 PM |
Yeah. They have people eyeing U.S. media and gleaning from various local sources. I'm in Sacramento and California is regularly featured (or in their cross hairs for political reasons).
One of the most bizarre examples is of a tragedy that occurred right across the street from my house about 10 years ago. My neighbor, a high school teacher, put his two toddlers down for a nap. The 3 year old girl got up and tried to open or close the blinds and her neck got caught. She was DOA. Our local media barely covered it. A side bar in the Metro section of the Bee, IIRC, and only on TV station covered it. It was blink and you miss it like I did (I knew enough anyway). So I'm perusing the Mail a few days later and I see a photo that looks familiar. It's my block!!! And lo and behold, there's all the local coverage collated into one space, including a clip of TV report the block's screen caps came from (yes, my house made the DM. Freaky, no?)
And that's not all. This infuriated me. They went into the family's Facebook and took photos from family events and published them! The children's faces were pixilated (maybe not the deceased's?). A bereaved family made it a spectacle. That's when I began noticing they did this frequently (I stay away from the grief porn they publish).

I have a kind of begrudging admiration for the Daily Mail. They really do get to the bottom of stories astonishingly quickly and with the kind of detail you don't get elsewhere (not to mention the extensive photos!).
Their journalists are probably some of the best in the world, but they have more money so they can afford to hire the best. I'd also wager their secret contacts are plentiful and well-protected.
For Meghan to make an enemy of them is unwise and I bet the Palace staffers told her so.

It says a lot about MeMe that she invited NO ONE from her family except her mother...no one from EITHER side.
So, EVERYONE on both sides of the family are awful? She had no positive experiences with ANY of them, including the uncle who was a diplomat who helped her get an internship (that she blew off)?
She was so keen to create a narrative of "poor widdle me and my black mom alone against the world" when that wasn't actually the case at all.

Lainey's analysis of the Ellen appearance: Meghan did it as a favor to EG, to boost her sagging ratings during ever-important sweeps period. It fulfills the common courtesy code of celebs in Hollywood: you promote me when needed, I promote you back. It's the "personal-professional payoff".
She actually found the comic game MM played hilarious and the highpoint of her appearance. Really. She did mention the awkwardness of Meghan showing up on Ellen's show to discuss parental leave and labor rights, when Ellen has such a dismal record herself in those areas. No mention of the obvious hypocrisy of the mutual bullying allegations against both guest and host.

Fortunately, or not, gay men do no share that loyalty to each other that POC and fellow mixed race people do. A gay dies a little each time another gay man succeeds. If the Duchess were some gay man who scored, every gay would be finding loopholes to strip him of the title before he even made it to the alter. I wish we watched out for each other. Hell, even Meghan's BFF Ellen has taken the side of people who have made anti-gay male comments.

It will include the recent developments and the palace is pissed because they haven't seen it in private, which by BBC standards they should be allowed to do on the basis of BBC policy for right of reply. The BBC contends the story is about the media. Complicating matters the presenter is an avowed republican. Scabie is among those interviewed. Should keep the Mail busy for days. Talking about the royals and the media always puts republicans into a quandary because, on the one hand, Diana's death allegedly at the hands of the paparazzi and the allegedly beastly treatment of woman of colour Meghan by the tabloids are supposedly points against the monarchy or the establishment or systemic racism or something, while, on the other hand, William is the future king but also Diana's son, so they're unsure how to treat him.

by Anonymous | reply 365 | November 22, 2021 5:49 PM |
Diana and Kate suffered mistreatment by the press much more than Meghan ever did.
As far as for the pre-engagement period, Kate probably had it the worst because she was William's girlfriend for a longer length of time. Diana's treatment was intense for the shorter period because she didn't know Charles for very long. As for after the wedding period, Diana was continuously hounded non-stop. Kate has had some quiet time especially when William was a helicopter pilot and they lived in Wales. Of course, Diana was fortunate not to live in a world with social media.
I didn't include Fergie in this post but even she was lambasted in her heyday more than Meghan ever has been. Meghan and Harry are just thin skinned, petty complainers. They had it relatively easy compared to other women who married into the family. MOST of their bad press THEY EARNED themselves.

R381 that knife crime story was from 2018. I think the point was they were given important work to do but it didn't happen. They then bitched about not being given high profile work and being pushed aside

I guess nothing came of it - just like with any of their oh-so-successful plans and projects.
by Anonymous | reply 389 | November 23, 2021 1:01 PM |
It's a shame... the knife crime thing was a real problem. Between that and Invictus there was real opportunity to do important work - not just visible work, but valuable work. When his father was king it isn't impossible to imagine Harry getting the Prince's Trust, given that William has his own mega-venture in Earthshot. I wonder why the platform that existed was insufficient? It is a shame.
by Anonymous | reply 390 | November 23, 2021 1:05 PM |
I'm suspecting it was insufficient as there weren't opportunities to make their own millions alongside the Royal work and they didn't like being seen as a rung below William/Kate
by Anonymous | reply 391 | November 23, 2021 2:47 PM |
It seems like what chafed them is being assigned work rather than being able to choose it, because it goes back to Harry’s resentment that the palace’s decisionmaking is built around benefitting Charles and William (as future Kings) more than him. The palace wanted Harry and Meghan doing enough good that they didn’t get called out for being wasters, but not so much that they overshadowed anyone of greater importance. In that way they were required to be cogs in a system centered around others, not them, and that goes against their ideas of themselves as the stars.
by Anonymous | reply 392 | November 23, 2021 2:56 PM |
He had a big platform through Invictus. The world could have been travelled staging related events between the games, fundraising dinners through speeches. I don't respect Harry at all any more but had he played it properly he could have won a Nobel Prize through that work.
by Anonymous | reply 393 | November 23, 2021 3:02 PM |
Yeah I agree R393! And he was actually allowed a good bit of star-turns through that, getting to hang out with other high-profile supporters of military veterans and families. I also though Meghan’s work on the Grenfell cookbook was an excellent assignment for her interests and that she did a great job with it. I’m not sure why/when things soured so much.
by Anonymous | reply 394 | November 23, 2021 3:05 PM |
I don’t think there was a significant risk Harry and Meghan would have done too much.
by Anonymous | reply 395 | November 23, 2021 3:16 PM |
I think both are them are bone idle but also share a need to be adored by the public.
It was pretty clear early on that they ditched all help with their speeches. MM particularly focused every speech on herself and not the good work of the people they were supposed to be supporting. Meanwhile H spoke often about her and her amazingness. People aren't stupid and this was picked up on pretty fast. For example the Hubb Kitchen was already in place and those were the recipes of the women involved but to hear her you would think she was involved in the set up and wrote the recipes in the book herself whereas she did a couple of visits and wrote the foreword.
by Anonymous | reply 396 | November 23, 2021 3:21 PM |
Didn't Harry blow off most of Invictus when he and his wife were on the tour in Australia. And then, had his wife give a speech when they did go?

I remember him having her centre stage with him (instead of fucusing on the issues) like they were a couple of rock stars
by Anonymous | reply 398 | November 23, 2021 6:24 PM |
What Harry and Meghan wouldn't understand is that it's a JOB. They are members of the Firm, and just like with any company, there is a hierarchy. In exchange, all senior members get unbelievable perks and worldwide fame. They were too busy looking up at Will and Kate with envy, they couldn't see the huddled masses below them.
by Anonymous | reply 399 | November 23, 2021 6:40 PM |
I don’t think they fully realize the inherent contradiction of their position. It doesn’t make sense for them to reject their place in the monarchical structure as unfair but continue to argue that there is something inherent in Harry (and thus his wife and child) that should set him apart from the masses. It’s either right or wrong to preference certain people over others due to an accident of birth, not only partly wrong because you’ve picked the wrong brother to promote over the other. I would have immense respect for them if they had stepped aside because they didn’t think it was right to continue accessing funds and attention just because of blood, but in that case they’ve have to really give up the perks *and* many would fairly see it as a cruel action to take given the repercussions it would have on Harry’s family. But at least it would be principled.
by Anonymous | reply 400 | November 23, 2021 7:32 PM |
People with those principles wouldn't have had the heavily televised wedding, spent millions on clothes and renovations on a home they barely lived in, etc. They also wouldn't have taken the Royal Dukedom. They'd have left for California as Mr. and Mrs. Mountbatten-Windsor as soon as their small, private wedding was over.
I'd have rooted for that Harry and Meghan.

Harry was born to the third highest position in his country. He’s spent his whole life angry and perplexed not by the fact that 70 million people are below him but by the fact that one person is above him.
by Anonymous | reply 403 | November 23, 2021 9:31 PM |
His real problems seemed to manifest when William married and had children, and Harry's official purpose in life was over. Spare syndrome seems to affect all of the second-born heirs.
That's likely one of several reasons that Harry has never seemed close to his brother's children. He probably resents the three kids who pushed him further down the line of succession and will keep pushing him down as they marry and breed.

R404, which is so mystifying since his mother was always pushing for him to be remembered the planning for the future and he was certain to play a role in his father's slimmed down monarchy. Mystifying. I blame it all on Diana's early death and his age. Totally fucked him up. Hasn't made a good choice since August of '97. Maybe Invictus.
by Anonymous | reply 406 | November 23, 2021 9:50 PM |
His envy is especially stupid since never in a million years would he want the work load and scrutiny of the top job. He already spends every waking moment stewing over the small number of negative articles about him and his wife during their time as working royals and he recently complained about how taxing his foreign travel was. Being a minor royal is arguably the best of everything—all the perks with much less effort and press intrusion. For someone with his thin skin and limited initiative it’s the only positon that makes any sense.

by Anonymous | reply 408 | November 23, 2021 10:08 PM |
In fairness, R408, most kids get fucked up by divorce. So he got a double whammy. I don't like him, I think he's failed his family and his country, but he did get a couple of whoppers thrown at him and that he contended with it poorly doesn't surprise me.
by Anonymous | reply 409 | November 23, 2021 10:23 PM |
Those kids got the hell of a bad public divorce that made worldwide headlines, losing their mother to a violent death at a young age, and then a father that was reputedly quite distant from them even after that.
It’s true that many kids in worse circumstances lose parents at young kids—but the adults I know who grew up in that circumstance are very fucked up about it even years later as a adults. It’s a close to unbearable pain. I’m sure William is messed up about it, it’s just manifested in a different way for him.

Oh FFS, they spent YEARS talking about mental health (before he decided Will and Kate were the enemy) and he's had access to the best of everything his entire life. But he still acts and pouts like Mummy died yesterday.
At a certain point, you have to get your shit together and become a functioning human being. Not to say that the loss shouldn't still hurt and you can't have scars from it, but it can't be the center of your universe. He and Meghan McCain should be locked in a room together.
by Anonymous | reply 411 | November 23, 2021 10:43 PM |
He plainly hasn't. Loads of people don't get their shit together past that certain point. If they did, rehab wouldn't be so profitable. When someone fails, compassion is hard. [quote] Not to say that the loss shouldn't still hurt and you can't have scars from it, but it can't be the center of your universe.
But it honestly is for lots of people who lose a parent as a kid. Will and Harry were old enough to understand how horrible what happened was but young enough that they lacked the kind of resilience that even an older teenager has. It’s not a surprise at least one of them is still tripping over that loss.

People have lost their entire families in concentration camps and not expected the world to turn upside down because of it. If he was truly troubled, he would have had every right to do what he claimed he would do—withdraw from his role and lead a completely quiet existence. And unlike most victims of personal misfortune, he could have escaped his misfortune with an enormous amount of money and never lifted a finger for the rest of his life. I can see that his background might cause him to have some problems but it’s a bit unclear why he needs a PR company, a charitable foundation, and a 15 bedroom house to solve then.

My father died when I was 12. I was put on display during the funeral and told that it was now my job to look after my alcoholic mother and older teenage sister. I gave the eulogy.
I parked all that - had some shitty experiences as a result and am now doing therapy which has shown that I didn’t deal thirty years ago. And that’s cool - what I have never done is use that history as an excuse for behaving like a shit in adulthood.
Most of my friends have had dysfunctional childhoods. Most of them have accepted that and moved on. It doesn’t make you special or exempt from the standards that most adults are measured against.
Let it go. Process it with professionals. Then STFU and move onwards.
I have a roof over my head and can feed myself, which is more than the majority of people on this planet.

The problem with all the "Harry had such a hard time with his parents' divorce and then his mother's death" excuses is that exactly the same thing happened to William and he has turned out completely differently, while at the same time having the much harder job and responsibilities in life to have to prepare himself for.
I'd perhaps have more empathy for Harry if he wasn't cheaply exploiting his mother's death to promote himself for money and clout.

It pains me to take up for him but William was sixteen, so a little further along, and in due course had the benefit of the Middleton family, which by all accounts is as functional as it is successful. But again, I hate being a Harry apologist because while I think his past explains his present, I don't excuse the present. He could choose wisely and he doesn't and hasn't.

r422 His attitude shows great immaturity, lack of understanding and egotism. All working royals of whatever age or rank make a difference and impact in the lives of others , the organisations and charities they represent. .Do they get all the media attention and headlines? No .Princess Anne, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester,Prince Edward and Sophie all make an impact in their own ways ditto the Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra. Many organisations and charities who work with Princess Anne cannot praise her enough and the hard work and impact she has as well as the extra mile she goes at fundraising and awareness events. For example she works with charities who run animal sanctuaries and horse riding centres for children with special needs or trauma as a form of therapy, He is too focused on himself and receiving kudos and praise and not the people benefitting from the cause being supported.
by Anonymous | reply 432 | November 24, 2021 1:21 AM |
R432 that's made abundantly clear every time H&M speak. The royals are supposed to BE the spotlight of the worthy causes they represent. Harry and Meghan want to be IN the spotlight. They're incapable of discussing a cause, no matter how worthy, without centering themselves in the narrative.

I am the Rose Hanbury mis-speller and yes, my spelling is atrocious! I’m not even attempting the C-word (not that one…). I buy the Rose issue not because I’m particularly fond of the Sussexes (although I certainly don’t hate them like people here), but because the media hijinks around it involved gossip within the Turnip Toffs, and we all know that crew wouldn’t have had anything to do with Meghan under any circumstance. I’m not saying William certainly had an affair, but there seemed to be a reason Kate wanted to keep away from Rose, and then a corresponding pushback against Kate by the Mean Aristos crew that has never really treated her with even basic good manners. It could have been as innocuous as Kate just didn’t like her and the gossip mill + gossip writers blew it way out of proposition. I just think it’s fascinating.

I agree with those who contend William had it harder. I remember as a kid when Diana died he was the focus of so much attention due to how close they had been. No idea what her relationship was with Harry other than she found him amusing and naughty. She idolised William.
Also disgusted by Harry complaining about all the overseas charity events he had to do, how would you feel if he'd said that about an event that benefitted you?
Also gross was him voicing his discontent at all the mourners there to honour his mum at her funeral. Wouldn't it be a comfort to know that people thought of her?
by Anonymous | reply 452 | November 24, 2021 6:32 PM |
R452 on that last part, I have to cut him some slack. My brother had a public funeral. It was probably .00000001% the attention of Diana's. It felt very strange and disconcerting having some strangers who didn't really know him come out and to have my picture taken by strangers on one of the worst days of my life.
Yes, it was nice to feel the love, but on the other hand I was thinking, "what are you doing here? You didn't KNOW him"
I can't imagine what it was like for Harry and William, Robin Williams' kids, Carrie Fisher's daughter.

We’ve been talking about it in this other thread as well. It’s interesting, my strongest impression from it was that it’s anti-tabloid more than anything, it makes clear that they abuse various royal figures in turn or whenever they feel they aren’t getting enough access.
by Anonymous | reply 458 | November 24, 2021 8:40 PM |
R453 I think that’s a very Western sentiment. In many tribal cultures, funerals are public and it’s considered your duty to attend a funeral even if you didn’t know the person. It’s often considered rude not to. And even if someone doesn’t know the deceased personally, perhaps that person touched their lives in some way or inspired them. In Diana’s case, people appreciated and related to her for myriad reasons: her youth, her beauty, her dedication, her empathetic nature, even her failed marriage and her relationship with her in-laws. She was a role model for millions. For someone like Harry not to understand that, well, we always knew he was a thicko.
by Anonymous | reply 459 | November 24, 2021 8:57 PM |
The best thing Harry can do - if he insists upon being so goddamn VISIBLE - is focus on veterans and perhaps one other cause. However, I don’t think American veterans appreciate his meddling, after he insulted our First Amendment. And he did the cakewalk version of military service.
Even better; settle into a small house in a private corner and raise his damn kids.
by Anonymous | reply 460 | November 24, 2021 9:46 PM |
r453 - It's totally understandable to feel that way and to talk to about it with close family members afterwards; it's another thing to discuss it so publicly that it appears as a slap in the face and rejection of mourners' sympathy. Plus, and this is a big one, the trouble with Harry is that he spoke as though he was still an angry child with no sense of perspective or removal from an event that happened 25 years ago. It came off as mean spirited and self-absorbed, which he is.

In River's latest video he gives an good overview of part 1 of the BBC "documentary".
What I found interesting was the revelation that the UK press deliberately chose to set up the "work shy" label on William simply because the press were not getting enough stories about William and Kate. This was during the time W&K were in Wales and W was working as a search-and-rescue pilot and later an air ambulance pilot. Neither job sounds like "work shy" to me. He also notes how many times Kate was hacked (over 100 instances).
Clearly MM's claims of how she was the most attacked is preposterous.
Also apparently it has always been BBC policy to let those who are covered in such a broadcast be given an opportunity to provide a response. It's clear that the Sussex pair were given this option with both Omid and MM's lawyer being on camera, but the RF was not given that option.
Fair? Far from it.

I read they amended it to include the developments from the court case. You could hear in the intro to the first episode they had a clip about Harry and Meghan cooperating with Finding Freedom, so it sounds fairly up to date.
(I didn’t see it as a pro-Sussex show but an anti-tabloid one. Kate came across as the most sympathetic one, the only one of the four who doesn’t seem directly involved in either working with or against the press.)

by Anonymous | reply 470 | November 25, 2021 1:09 PM |
I agree—it was never refuted, and it wasn’t Meghan’s friends who put it out there, it was shit-stirring British gossips like Giles Coren. That doesn’t at all mean it’s true, in fact, I think it’s more likely any grudge or feud was over something more stupid than an affair, like a fight between the kids or some kind of Mean Girls crap. We will likely never know.
by Anonymous | reply 471 | November 25, 2021 1:29 PM |
^ and to add, I think Harry and Meghan’s bad behavior is responsible for shutting up the gossiping about Rose. The harm they did to the family got Will and Kate’s set to close ranks around them protectively and take whatever dispute was going on back behind closed doors.

The whole "Rose Hanbury" thing has been discussed at length in numerous threads about the royals but to sum it up it's bullshit.
1) The rumour started by a man named Giles Coren a so-called "Journalist" and Restaurant Critic for The Times. I say journalist" because Coren has a very dodgy history. You can look at his Wikipedia page to get more details of his past. Anyways, Coren, who has never actually met William or anyone near him. Coren later admitted to Robert Lacey he made the whole thing up for publicity. Lacey said he did poke around further and found nothing other then the fact that Kate and Rose were not on speaking terms for a period of time.
2) As mentioned, Kate and Rose Hanbury did have a falling out. While it's never been confirmed what the cause of this was, it has been rumoured that one of Hanbury's children was bullying George. When Kate confronted Rose there was an argument and Kate cut off times for a time, however, they have since made up as Rose her husband, William and Kate have all been seen together since.
3) While nothing is impossible, the likelihood of William cheating after what he went through with his parents as a child, is unlikely. William, like his grandfather, is known to enjoy the company of pretty women but I highly doubt he would ever cross the line and cheat. It's known that when Meghan claimed Kate made her cry, William was allegedly beyond furious that Kate was tarnished publicly like that (and also probably because Meghan was lying and that it was Kate who cried). People have said that Meghan making that remark was basically the final straw that has effectively made William ban Meghan from ever appearing at royal events again.

by Anonymous | reply 476 | November 25, 2021 5:13 PM |
That's interesting and thanks, R475.
I deplore Giles Coren, but not because of this. He is the worst example of privilege and arrogance.
From his Wikipedia entry (which is pains me to cite but it is footnoted:). On 14 January 2010, Coren attracted criticism after he posted on his Twitter feed: "Next door have bought their 12-year-old son a drum kit. For fuck's sake! Do I kill him then burn it? Or do I fuck him, then kill him then burn it?" Vivienne Pattison, director of watchdog Mediawatch UK, condemned the remark as "very bad taste".[50][51] Coren later posted: "Oh hell's bells. Look, can I just say I didn't kill the kid, or have sex with him. And anyway he's not real. And I live in Vienna."[50]
He also likes to write a column each time his Jaguar I-Pace is stolen. It is easy to argue Giles Coren is a brat on a good day and an asshole the rest of the time.

Diana has said she thought Harry would make a better king than William.
by Anonymous | reply 492 | November 27, 2021 12:21 AM |
R492 Diana never said that. What she did say was that Harry would have been more than happy to be the future King. She also told friends that Harry got all her worst characteristics, "poor boy." William was quote "her rock." Diana spoiled Harry more than William to make Harry feel he was just as important.
by Anonymous | reply 493 | November 27, 2021 12:37 AM |
What's ironic is that Harry would have been equally unhappy had he had the exact same upbringing as William to prepare him to be future king, just in case something were to happen to William before he had children. It's not a bad policy, really, but Harry didn't have the intellectual chops and probably would have bristled at the restrictions. He didn't like the few royal duties he did perform and complained publicly (Visiting earthquake survivors? Perfectly awful.), I can't imagine the bellyaching if he had William's duties and responsibilities now, let alone when he becomes king.
I often wonder if Margaret's life would have been less chaotic if she had been treated the same way as Elizabeth. She felt hurt and resentful that Elizabeth's education was so superior. Unlike Harry, she was was quite bright. Maybe not. Bottom line is that she and Harry were both heavily spoiled.

Ain't nobody got time to go through 550 posts. Sorry.
I think Ellen has been furious that Markle's first interview was Oprah, not Ellen. It took months for her to finally show up on the Ellen show. Ellen certainly got her revenge on Markle, the clips I saw of it were totally humiliating.
It didn't "humanize" Markle as it was supposed to do but nothing will work for that. She's a huge fucking narcissist and she's a paranoid control freak. How warmly is she ever going to come across as, she's simply not likable and doesn't connect with people. The more she tries, the more she fails. There's a reason she never made it beyond second-tier actress in a Canadian cable tv show after all the years she spent hustling in LA.
She won that appellate case but she lost the public both in Britain and the US. Next come months more of bullying charges against her from palace staff.
Drip.. drip.. drip.. as she drains every ounce of goodwill she once had and reveals herself to the entire world as a massive cunt. Good times.

There are rumblings that this case, which favours privacy so strongly over freedom of speech, might speed up the overhaul of the Human Rights Act. In which case, I think it much more likely ANL would take it to the Supreme Court (assuming it's done in a timely fashion).
by Anonymous | reply 553 | December 3, 2021 11:06 AM |
R553 I agree. It's no surprise that Meghan made the rather crass response she did, that's who she is. The Mail's response was brilliant, I thought, reminding the audience public that Meghan perjured herself in the proceedings.
The court statement made it clear that the justices really wished they could have ruled otherwise. That "at best" phrase points transparently to its corollary, "at worst, perjury". It's like the proverbial elephant in the room. Ditto the wistful, "one paragraph and let Mr Markle relate the rest" is virtually a road map for the rest of the press.
Now, this has blown up into a free press/free speech issue. I'm not surprised the justices didn't think they had the scope to go beyond these two points and send it back for full trial.
As always, the lingering image is of a lying bitch getting away with it, not the court being stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Just on that basis, I hope ANL take it to the top.
Although I'd be surprised if the SC agree to hear it.
After two defeats at the High Court and Appeal Court levels, I wouldn't give it a snowball's at the SC.
But whatever, ANL have virtually limitless pockets. They can turn this into a Rich Celebrity Baits Trap To Stifle Free Speech cause. They'll just keep putting nails into the coffin of Meghan's public image.
I wonder if Knauf gave them everything, or if there is more they can dump if the SC agrees to hear the case.
When that bullying report is leaked, those papers of ANL are going to skewer Meghan to the wall.
And if she utters a word about the staff not being up to her high standards - you just know they are waiting in the wings to file a defamation suit.
We aren't done here.
by Anonymous | reply 554 | December 3, 2021 12:55 PM |
The UK doesn’t have the same attitude to limitless free speech as the US, though. Their legal system has a tradition of considering it reasonable for other rights to trump that one. I don’t see that changing because it’s part of the cultural gap between us.

R555 Given that the conservatives passed a law that fines universities for banning speakers whose views are too "radically right wing," it's very likely they are going to enhance freedom of speech laws.
by Anonymous | reply 557 | December 3, 2021 5:36 PM |
I don’t see this leading to a major change in the law, simply because the facts of this case were fairly simple and old-fashioned: celebrity wrote a letter to someone, who gave it to the press, who published it. Under copyright law, celebrity held the copyright to the letter and thus the press violated her rights. It’s not a tangled issue or one involving new technology that would make the government want to adapt the law to a new era.
by Anonymous | reply 558 | December 3, 2021 7:07 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 559 | December 3, 2021 8:48 PM |
R559- Particularly if ANL take the case up to the Supreme Court. I would be very surprised if Jason Knauf doesn't have quite a bit more material up his sleeve.
The Mail, quite brilliantly, is turning this into a free press cause celebre. Even the PM stated he intended to review the decision "carefully", and mentioning that a free press is the cornerstone of democracy.
The Appeal Court's phraseology, "At best, an unfortunate lapse in memory," spoke volumes, because it pointed to the unspoken "At worst, the fucking bitch lied her face it and we know it."
And just wait till Knauf sees to it that that bullying report is leaked.

by Anonymous | reply 561 | December 4, 2021 7:59 AM |
There's too much evidence that she did bully staff - reports of Kate speaking to her, the queen speaking to her, Knauf's report, staff seen crying, high turnover rate, MM saying, It's not my job to coddle people. When all the dirty laundry is hung out for all to see, her supporters will flee in droves.

The story about Meghan being rude to Kate's staff is not new, but it's clear that no matter what Meghan thinks she "won", she won't stop the tabloids from tearing her to shreds.
They are going after her till the day she is raptured.
Whether or not Parliament takes action to shore up the definition of privacy, the fact that it was even mentioned, let alone by Downing Street, is serious shade at Meghan - and the two courts who upheld Summary Judgement.
The SC has nine justices on it. IF they agree to hear the case, just one or two dissenting opinions could add more rot to Meghan's timber.

R569 That's it. I Quit. Will be forwarding all of my bills to Harry and Meghan in Montecito.

The crying Kate/Meghan story is coming out drip by drip in the most ridiculous way for a nothing event. Take one postpartum mother and one almost-bride, both under immense pressure, one yells at the other, making her cry, then the yeller feels bad about it, so she cries also. So they both cried. Why are we still hearing about this 3 years later?
by Anonymous | reply 571 | December 6, 2021 5:05 PM |
R571 It's being brought up again because Meghan raised it in the Oprah interview but a version different than what had been previously been reported. The British Press seem committed to challenging Meghan and Harry over their questionable claims.
Truthfully, if Meghan had just kept her mouth shut this whole crying episode would have remained a nothing burger. When the story was originally reported back in 2018 or something, it made the round in the UK press for a couple days and then it was over. But Meghan just couldn't let it go and it's going to follow her around now forever or until Kate makes a comment (which she never will). Harry and Meghan's problem is they are so obsessed with controlling the press narrative that any degree of criticism or negative comment sends them into a frenzy of press releases, denials, legal threats etc. The issue with this knee jerk reaction is that it actually draws more attention to the situation. This is ultimately what will bring these two down. The court case against the Mail ultimately did more damage to Meghan's reputation in the UK and now the UK government seems set to weaken privacy laws in favour of the Press. Every time they open their mouth now, what they say is going to challenged and they have no one to blame but themselves.

R571 - we're hearing about the "crying" incident because Meghan brought the subject up in the Oprah interview. Of course, she either lies or leaves out important details about certain incidences.

R 576 "Meghan, 39..." - beg pardon, Daily Mail? The lady is 40, four-oh.
Could it be they're overwhelmed with commitments they've put off fulfilling?
by Anonymous | reply 578 | December 16, 2021 3:42 PM |
R571 This is MM exactly. She can’t let go of anything, even though she makes herself look ridiculous.
by Anonymous | reply 579 | December 16, 2021 4:38 PM |
They put out a puff piece every month on how "happy" they are, don't they?
People who are truly happy don't need to announce it on the regular.

R580 how dare you!

Speaking in a new interview with People magazine, the Duchess of Sussex's close pal said the couple had 'struck a rhythm as a foursome'.
What rhythm does a toddler or a newborn find?

A quote from your make-up artist? Guess they can't find anyone else to speak (lie) on their behalf!

R585 it's also bullshit
by Anonymous | reply 586 | December 16, 2021 11:27 PM |
Her birth certificate lists she was born in 1981 R585. I she was shaving that much off her age, and it was provable The Daily Mail would be putting her on blast.
by Anonymous | reply 587 | December 16, 2021 11:42 PM |
R587 not to mention her family or old school friends would've outed her. Do people really think Sister Sam or Dear Daddy wouldn't have played that card?
by Anonymous | reply 588 | December 17, 2021 12:26 AM |
She puts herself in situations that contradict her age.
by Anonymous | reply 589 | December 17, 2021 2:02 AM |
R589 such as....?
by Anonymous | reply 590 | December 17, 2021 2:03 AM |
Holy shit R589, you act as if one day we see her with a walker at a retirement home, and the next partying with at a club with a fake ID. I don't know what tumblr or twitter page you get this fantasy from, but it's freaks like you that give the rest of us a bad name. I suppose you think that Archie is a doll, Lilli isnt real, Harry is being held with MK Ultra tactics, and Meghan is going to get exposed, and arrested any day now. Since we already have Q-Anon, we are going to have to call your type M-Anon. Why can't you just sit back and enjoy the messy drama like the rest of us?

I read about the age thing on Angela Levin's twitter
by Anonymous | reply 594 | December 17, 2021 8:31 AM |
R594 BS from a random commenter? Yep.
by Anonymous | reply 595 | December 17, 2021 8:46 AM |
Her family have spent a lot of time calling her a liar. They've never said she lies about her age.
Her old school friends have never said she lies about her age.
Yearbooks are online.
If she was 4 years old than she claimed, the Daily Mail offices would be covered in cum and it would've been headlines for a week.
THINK, PEOPLE. R591 is right.
by Anonymous | reply 596 | December 17, 2021 8:52 AM |
The age discrepancy came about because of a passage in Funding Freedom in which, in an effort to make clear how little contact she had with her step-siblings growing up, she said she and Doria moved out when she was X age and the sibs dropped out of high school and moved away at Y age. Someone misread it. It was just a poorly written paragraph.

Wow, thirsty girl. How much did she have to pay the paps? They sure aren't interested in her for free anymore. Altho, the girl sure landed in the shit. No matter what she is living large in comparison of where she would be without Harry.
Still can't figure why they left all the life they could have had in the UK for this trashy scramble
