Phil's nice and smart, though his voice is a little lightweight. But then again, NYC Local Channel 2 has Maurice DuBois, whose voice sounds kind of like the equivalent of cotton candy.

Nicolle Wallace did an excellent job grilling Chris Christie, I wouldn't be surprised if his fat ass looked like he had sat on the grill at Burger King, but as far as I saw none of the other MSNBC hosts showed even a clip of the grilling, let alone acknowledge it.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 17, 2021 9:41 PM |
From what I understand Shepard Smith is struggling on CNBC, moving him to another more prominent network is not the answer. Just because some of you might like him doesn't mean that he can bring in the needed viewership.

I would enjoy a Claire MacCaskill show, but she is 68 years old and worth around $60 million. You are assuming she wants a show and I don't think she does, she has grand kids and I think she would rather be a grandmother a baker and an occasional contributor than to do the grind of a daily show.

Sorry, R13--I love Katy and am glad she's back.
Have you ANY idea how many people have no relationship with certain family members? Including a huge # of DLers? You don't know what their dynamic is/was, and it isn't fair to judge her decision based on the teensy amount of knowledge we have about the situation.

R28, Claire sat in for Nicole a few times and she seemed uncomfortable. Or maybe she just didn't like doing it. She did have to follow a "script" and lead the discussion rather than chiming in every once in a while and getting in a good one liner. Plus, I think she likes being at home and cozy in her kitchen. So, I doubt she'd even want her own show.

That's why she should host a show from her kitchen -- part baking, part political commentary. She could invite politicians into her kitchen to show off their favorite recipes and then chat with her about the latest political news over pie or cake.

You do realize that kitchen is in St Louis don't you? Just how many politicians are going to travel to St Louis to chat over pie or cake. Honestly you people are delusional if you think Claire is just dying to host a daily show. Now a weekend show, maybe you could talk her into that if she could do it from St Louis but Claire neither needs the money or the hassle of hosting a show.

When MSNBC goes looking for new hosts I hope they consider Jen Psaki, current White House press secretary. She has said that she won't be staying much longer than a year at the White House. I am not saying she deserves the top spot that Rachel holds but since they will probably move someone currently at MSNBC into that spot they will need to back fill, they should consider Jen.

They aired a "Deadline White House" with Nicolle Wallace that was pre-recorded and featured excerpts from previously aired interviews from the past few months (basically a "Best of" retrospective), but the graphic at the bottom of the screen still labeled it all as "BREAKING NEWS."

[quote]They aired a "Deadline White House" with Nicolle Wallace
Will someone explain to me Nicolle Wallace's show?
EVERY time I tune in to it she's talking about three things: Trump, "The Big Lie", and January 6th.
It's the same stuff repeated over and over, day in and day out. It's like she's trapped in a time loop. How can anyone sit through it. Who is the audience for that? She's like an autistic kid who's focused on one thing and can't shut up about it.
OK, January 6th is important and any new info or progress needs to be reported, but it was nearly a year ago and other things are on people's minds right now. It's as if she's got nothing else.
And we all know how horrible Trump is.
Nicolle dear, we got it already.

You also won't find the campaign spokesperson declare victory before the candidate does.

I am so tired of Morning Joe and marry band of Capitalist like Stephanie Ruhle on their mission to guilt people back to work from the perspective of their MSNBC bubble. They did it again last night. Stupid examples about brainstorming and mentors and getting ahead because you "showed up". They have no clue most offices are not run like fast paced media outlets where the hard workers with talent and fighters rise to the top overnight. Where older workers with power and seniority often act as mentors. Where salaries can quadruple if you are chosen to be in front of the camera.
Most office type jobs these days people are hired for one thing and one thing only. There is not recognition, because that means a pay raise which is why the most common way for an office or knowledge worker to get a raise over cost of living it to switch jobs. There is no mentoring because they expect you to not stay long and you should already know what you are doing. No one suddenly doubles or triples their salary no matter how much of a superstar you are, it's your job to be good at what you do. Congratulations, you get a piece of paper that say best working of the year. Oh, you wanted a raise for that? A bonus maybe? How about a round of pizza for the office on Friday (after work hours) to celebrate your success. Bring whatever you are drinking. No alcohol.

One of the reasons they do that is so they can differentiate themselves from Fox and Friends on at the same time who have two douche bros and always a blond bimbo with no real background in what they are talking about AT ALL. Because you have too many Trumpeters saying all the media is the same when you point out someone on Fox doesn't know what the fuck they are talking about.

I think Chris Cuomo could make a comeback at some point (a la Brian Williams), he'll just have to wait a while to do it.
by Anonymous | reply 254 | December 5, 2021 7:07 PM |
What Cuomo did was far more serious than Williams’ exaggerated personal stories. It seems he used his CNN staff to investigate his brother’s accusers and sought to spy on other journalists. He also lied to his bosses about these matters.
He’s not coming back.

Better than some Repug from fox that no one will watch no matter how much they get other anchors to vouch for them. Remember that disaster with Gretta Van Sustran? They put Rachael all over the air talking about what a great person she was and give her a chance, bla, bla, bla. Show died in a grease fire. No one watched.

r265, It used to be the Bachelor’s Mill but that closed down. Most queer POC do hang out upstairs in The Fireplace, a place I haven’t been to in years. JRs is supposedly a tad more diverse than it was in the 90s but still, no surprise Eugene goes there. I’m sure Don Lemon would probably go there if she’s in DC. Most of these black cable and local gay newscasters seem to be with white men. Interesting.

I really like the structure of The 11th Hour. First segment: 5 minute summary of the day's news events followed by a 15 min discussion of the 2 or 3 top stories; 2 segments of commentary; a health segment; finally "Last Thing Before We Go".... (often I'll ff thru most of the show but I always watch that segment).
I hope they keep the structure no matter who they replace B Williams with.
by Anonymous | reply 316 | December 9, 2021 7:49 PM |
BW's show's strength was how much it was guest-driven. Unlike a certain "star" who appears as a predominantly self-indulgent solo act two hours before.

If MSNBC is smart they'll try out lots of different hosts on the 11th hour over the next several months, some old faces and hopefully some new ones, and see if ratings go up or down. What's the hurry to find a permanent replacement? Give each guest host a week or two.

Last night Lawrence O'Donnell said he knows he'll accidently say Brian's name when introducing "The 11th Hour with Brian Williams" as opposed to the replacement "Ali Velshi...or whoever." Interesting.
In Brain's typically witty, and classy, 'farewell speech' did anyone else notice how much he enunciated "with" when he thanked "All those I've worked WITH." Perhaps some subtle shade toward those he worked FOR?

I love Nicolle Wallace and Rachel Maddow for how well-prepared they are. But I'm saddened to see that Nicolle had plastic surgery and I don't think it looks great. And along her hair extensions, she looks like Melania. Now I see that her boyfriends, Michael Schmidt, if finally letting his receding hairline show but he's coloring his hair. I'm probably in the minority, but I'd like to see people as they really are. Bob Dole was coloring his hair up to the very end, and he looked silly.

They could pick various topic, both current and historical -there is A LOT these gentlemen could teach us!! So much of the country is woefully ignorant about our own history.
I'd say call it THE HISTORY BOYS, but I think that's already taken - but I'd watch it for sure!!!
by Anonymous | reply 406 | December 13, 2021 2:29 AM |
Great idea, R406 -- too bad networks other than PBS have no interest in educating the public. The other important subject of which Americans are ignorant is civics, how their government is designed to work. In a democracy, where the government is theoretically run by the people, the voters should understand the system they're participating in but it's obvious that many/most do not. Immigrants who become citizens are required to pass a test on basic U.S. history and civics, but those of us who are born citizens never have to do that, apparently not even in order to graduate from high school. So much for compulsory public education!

R436 Tucker was such a whiney entitled Yuppie twat when he was on CNN in the 90's, I can't understand how he has now amassed a huge following, especially among Fox viewers. I won't be watching to find out why.
Just seems so like the kind of douche that Fox good-ole-boys would love to mock-lynch, to watch him wet his self.
by Anonymous | reply 444 | December 16, 2021 7:07 AM |
R444 "especially among Fox viewers."
It's BECAUSE it's Fox viewers. Fox is the only network where bigoted white supremacists can succeed. Fox viewers are very lazy. They'll watch anyone who is placed in the Prime Time line-up as long as hate and division is being spewed. Tucker, Hannity, and Ingraham are successful ONLY because of their time slots. If they were to leave Fox, they would fail miserably.
Remember Bill O'Reilly? Megan Kelly? Fox viewers don't. And their ratings were huge until the very end.
by Anonymous | reply 445 | December 16, 2021 7:34 AM |
Carlson replaced Van Susteren, and then Kelly in 2017. He spent the next 5 years massaging Trumps's prostate and spouting white grievance. If you can stoke white grievance on Fox you are golden.

To which journalist/author Anand Giridharadas replied: "The trends are so bad, you and I now sound the same talking about these issues. Just think about [bold]that[/bold) for a second."
by Anonymous | reply 448 | December 16, 2021 2:02 PM |

With Brian gone and with Rachel soon to stop doing her nightly show, MSNBC is in trouble. They have several perfectly competent people, like Chris Jansing, they could promote or move into a prime time slot, but nobody who's very compelling and would make people want to tune in every night. They need to look outside the network and find new people to shake things up, but I have no idea who those new people would be.

I just don't know about Rachel moving to the weekends. There's just something so desolate about weekends on MSNBC -- what are they going to do, sandwich her between Mehdi Hasan and documentaries on a Sunday night? Would anybody really care enough to seek her out every week? Or would she, after a few weeks of feeling like she's yelling into a vacuum, want to move back to weeknights?

Wait, really, R506? I didn’t set up my DVR to record that and I’m already out of town. They NEVER used to show them before Christmas. It was always in between Christmas and NYE (like, Dec 29th or whatever).

Heileman is not gay, R509. Have you missed his quite obvious crush on Nicolle during his appearances on Deadline: White House which is viewable from space?
