Why do so many men here hate tattoos?

You guys are old.

by Anonymousreply 393October 26, 2023 5:20 AM

They're an obvious sign of poor taste, low breeding, and lack of individuality, OP. And they ruin what would typically be a lovely body, much like those chocolate santas you bought for Christmas presents but got too early so you've been devouring them as fast as your fat little fingers can unwrap the protective foil.

by Anonymousreply 1November 16, 2021 1:24 AM

Yes you foolish trash, we are old, and we see how pathetic they look on people as they age.

by Anonymousreply 2November 16, 2021 1:25 AM

Old? Tattoos were a thing in 2001. Where have you been grandpa?

by Anonymousreply 3November 16, 2021 1:25 AM

'Lack of individuality' - but plain unadorned skin is original? Okay, Gramps.

by Anonymousreply 4November 16, 2021 1:26 AM

I don't hate a tattoo. Or two. Or a few.

The tattooing thing has gone way overboard to the point of making me dislike them altogether, though, if it's more than just a minor accessory.

Look at this guy. He should be gorgeous but he's a disgusting mess. I can't tell what's hair and what's ink.

People who get tattoos think that these tattoos will bestow them with - Coolness, Hipness, Edginess

But it bestows NONE of those things

What it bestows them with is AVERAGENESS.

by Anonymousreply 11November 16, 2021 1:34 AM

Klan Granny Troll thread.

by Anonymousreply 12November 16, 2021 1:34 AM

They truly are a sign of poor breeding. One handsome, muscular gentleman I was conflicted about dating a few years ago, mostly because he was below my station (I'm white collar, and he's blue collar), removed his shirt to reveal a body riddled with ink. At that point, the attraction dissipated and I was no longer conflicted, as the ink just reinforced for me that he too below my station to quality as a suitable romantic/life partner. I eventually did find a fella up to my standards (MBA; no tats!!) and we've been together for five years now.

by Anonymousreply 13November 16, 2021 1:43 AM

Tattoos equal white trash. It’s just a fact. I can’t wait to see all these pathetic tatted freaks at age 60.

by Anonymousreply 14November 16, 2021 1:44 AM

Tattoos also equal poor decision making. That may be ok for a street whore, but I would never hire or marry a tattooed person. There’s something inherently wrong with them.

by Anonymousreply 15November 16, 2021 1:46 AM

Walmart is full of the tattooed now.

by Anonymousreply 16November 16, 2021 1:47 AM

It's for trashy sheep.

by Anonymousreply 17November 16, 2021 1:49 AM

I don’t mind a few artfully placed tats and some people can go overboard and I still find them insanely hot. But it’s cool to me when guys go without getting them, since having them seems to be the norm. No one likes him anymore, but a man like Colby Keller, for instance, has none and is all the more beautiful for it (in my opinion). No distractions, just man in his natural state.

Spanish porn star Juan Lucho has some pretty amazing art, and so far hasn’t let it grow up his neck and face. Still, at the end of the day he looks like he’s wearing a body suit, so he doesn’t look nude even when he’s nude.

by Anonymousreply 19November 16, 2021 1:54 AM

I don't hate tats. It just depends on how many, how big, and where they're placed. A tattoo on the shoulder (or even both shoulders) as long as it's not huge can be quite sexy on a man with a fit body. But once they leave the shoulders they start getting trashier and trashier as they multiply. IMO, if you have tats (other than shoulder tats) that can be seen if you're wearing a short sleeve shirt and shorts, then you've moved into the trash arena. If you have tats anywhere above your collarbones you should be lobotomized.

Hank Hightower from the glory days of gay pron had the perfect sexy tattoo. One nice looking one on his shoulder.

A couple of tattoos are fine but most people get carried away, or get a collection of images that don't go together so they just end up looking like a series of doodles in a page margin.

by Anonymousreply 27November 16, 2021 2:11 AM

How in the hell is this a Klan Granny thread? Tattoos show short sightedness, lack of ambition. Who is going to hire someone with a throat tattoo or one on your neck?

by Anonymousreply 28November 16, 2021 2:12 AM

Aren't tribal tattoos considered to be outdated?

I know of guys who got them when they were in their teens or early 20s, and later covered them up or got them removed.

by Anonymousreply 29November 16, 2021 2:13 AM

It’s strictly a class thing for me. I couldn’t get close to anyone with tattoos because they just wouldn’t fit in with the circles I run in. My family, friends, and associates would not approve.

by Anonymousreply 30November 16, 2021 2:16 AM

I am not opposed to tasteful tattoos.

by Anonymousreply 31November 16, 2021 2:16 AM

R31 - “tasteful tattoos” is an oxymoron.

by Anonymousreply 32November 16, 2021 2:18 AM

by Anonymousreply 33November 16, 2021 2:18 AM

Are tattoos something guys get to attract girls?

by Anonymousreply 34November 16, 2021 2:19 AM

The younger gay guys I know that get tattoos, do it to appear “straight” at the gym and out at the jogging trails. Then they open their mouth and their purse falls out.

by Anonymousreply 35November 16, 2021 2:20 AM

My straight married FB has a few strategically placed tats are are ultra sexy. His little bitch of a wifey-poo doesn't care for them, but as long as she's getting that good dick, she doesn't say much about them.

by Anonymousreply 48November 16, 2021 3:36 AM

Tattoos on ugly men are interesting. Tattoos on handsome men are unnecessary. Either way, they show insecurity.

by Anonymousreply 49November 16, 2021 3:37 AM

I don't hate tattoos in and of themselves. But there's a line between Lenny Kravitz and a carny with pyorrhea. Your average tatted up person looks like the latter.

Plus, as a child of the 80s, nothing looked more dated and disgusting than dirty, burned-out 70s biker-types that littered the streets. That era was over but not their wrecked skin.

by Anonymousreply 50November 16, 2021 3:38 AM

I tend to agree with Dr House, when a prospective Fellow accused him of having "a problem with non-conformity" because of his tattoo:

"Nonconformity, right. I can't remember the last time I saw a twenty-something kid with a tattoo of an Asian letter on his wrist. You are one wicked free thinker. You want to be a rebel? Stop being cool. Wear a pocket protector like he does and get a haircut, like the Asian kids who don't leave the library for 20-hour stretches. They're the ones who don't care what you think. Sayonara."

by Anonymousreply 54November 16, 2021 3:45 AM

by Anonymousreply 56November 16, 2021 3:48 AM

Yeah, I knew this guy who got himself all tatted up coz he was in a rock band and thought that would make him cooler. Fast forward 3 years, he is no longer in the band and now lives in another state, driving a truck for a living.

by Anonymousreply 57November 16, 2021 4:02 AM

And you never saw any females with them except poor white trash.

R43, they may be hot on young people, but many of those young people are going to get old, some very old. Do you really think that they’ll so hot on these people when they age?

by Anonymousreply 63November 16, 2021 4:13 AM

They are a sign of low intelligence, and a permanent reminder of a temporary feeling.

by Anonymousreply 66November 16, 2021 4:21 AM

Love of tattoos is not a sign of youth.

Disdain of tattoos is not a sign of old age.

You’re trying way too hard to justify your own ageism.

by Anonymousreply 67November 16, 2021 4:34 AM

According to DL School Of Psychology people with excessive tattoos were abused as a child.

I'm somewhat agree with that.

by Anonymousreply 68November 16, 2021 4:38 AM

If someone put the same graffiti on your house or car that you put on your body, then you'd be ready to take that person down for disrespecting your property. You and your body are incalculablly more valuable than those material possessions, so you are disrespecting yourselves by mutilating your bodies.

What is the verdict? Stick a tattoo pen in 'im - HE'S DONE!

by Anonymousreply 69November 16, 2021 5:13 AM

I don't consider myself anti-ink. Also, I do feel that, under the right circumstances, tattoos can be appealing, both visually and sexually. However, for me now (in my late 30s) I am extremely thankful I didn't get tattooed, and there were plenty of times where I was very ready to get inked. I have always been needle-phobic so I chickened out every time, and looking back it wouldn't have been the right fit for my personality. I don't know if it would have necessarily hindered my life in any meaningful way, but as I've aged, I've really come around to liking my body as it is. I think for most people in my situation, while we don't necessarily HATE tattoos, we do see it as a youthful impulse that we are glad we didn't fulfill. So when you see people, particularly the younger, getting them so early on, there is that nagging thought that they should have waited. And let's face it, most should have waited. Generally I don't like to make impulsive judgments when it comes to tattoos because a lot of friends have them and they're meaningful to them. Two of my girlfriends (sisters) have matching ones as a memorial to their deceased father. And one of my other friends has her two kids' birthdays tattooed on her arm. I can't say that's the way I'd memorialize such events, but the tattoos are meaningful to them.

by Anonymousreply 70November 16, 2021 6:13 AM

Smooth, naturally toned human skin is a work of art all its own. It’s not a sheet of paper or canvas which was made for the purpose of having something put on it. There is and will never be a tattoo that improves on that. I doubt that anyone has ever looked at another person and thought “He’s/she’s pretty hot, but they don’t have tats, so I’d have to pass on that”.

by Anonymousreply 71November 16, 2021 6:19 AM

Tattoos are ugly. That's why. Every additional tattoo you get makes you that must less attractive. There's also no justifiable reason to get one. They're stupid... a permanent solution to a temporary whim. They're nothing more or less than ugly graffiti on the work of art that is the human body. And the more tattoos you have? The more clearly mentally ill you are. They're like waving huge red flags: "Avoid me, I'm disturbed".

And worse, while they used to symbolize rebelliousness against society, they're not just symbols of a pathetic sheep following the latest trend... a lemming.

by Anonymousreply 72November 16, 2021 6:25 AM

[quote] tattoos are hot, you people are crazy

Could you please explain what exactly makes tattoos”hot”? I’ve never understood the reasoning behind that. They aren’t a sign of a rebel who refuses to conform to society, not when every other person has at least one or two. They’re not a sign of discrimination and taste, since many of them are ugly and look like shit. You want to be a nonconformist who doesn’t give a fuck what people think? Then DON’T get them.

by Anonymousreply 73November 16, 2021 6:31 AM

It doesn't matter how "artistically' they are done, or what the symbols "represent", or what the quote "means", they always look gimmicky and jokey. And gimmicks and jokes age VERY quickly.

by Anonymousreply 74November 16, 2021 6:36 AM

I went through the whole bumper sticker phase in my twenties. Why be a walking, talking one?

by Anonymousreply 75November 16, 2021 6:48 AM

Oh come ON, guys - literally no one under 40 even bats an eye at visible tattoos anymore. What *I* find stomach turning - is the obesity epidemic.

by Anonymousreply 76November 16, 2021 6:51 AM

Excellent thread, OP. I remember being shocked (Mary!) @ the strong antipathy DL denizens showed toward tattoos after I became a subscriber here. My hunch is that it is a generational and/or class issue. I am an eldergay myself (60), and have a couple tattoos that are concealed from the general public. Pearl clutchers are a big turn off to me, so I am not aware of anyone in my circle who disapproves. I will also acknowledge that the prevailing attitude toward tattoos in my youthful environment(s) was one of strong disapproval. Tattoos were for the trashy, unclean, and incarcerated, especially if they happened to be female. A great example of this sentiment from Rocky Horror: Frankenfurter asking Brad and Janet if they “have any tattoos?” The crowd I was with howled. Lol…So yes, I am an old, but not a constipated one.

by Anonymousreply 77November 16, 2021 6:52 AM

by Anonymousreply 80November 16, 2021 7:08 AM

I know someone who recently had her eyebrows tattooed. It didn't go well. I know her to be a good person, but I am afraid others might not see what is behind the eyebrows.

by Anonymousreply 81November 16, 2021 7:10 AM

Another sign of the times. The decline.

by Anonymousreply 82November 16, 2021 7:12 AM

R23 No. The tribal tattoo are the dumbest thing ever. Just like Asian letters. What tribes do those white guys belong to?

by Anonymousreply 83November 16, 2021 7:13 AM

R81 That's different. Did she had poor eyebrows or some disease that made her hair fall out? Those tattoos aren't made to be "art" but to make you look more like the rest of the people. People with alopecia or cancer patients get those sometimes. And those are different type.of inking. Not real tattoos. Different ink, different needles. They fade over time and don't turn blue with time, like regular tattoos do.

by Anonymousreply 84November 16, 2021 7:18 AM

Reply 84, she lost eyelash volume from over plucking. Her tattoos are permanent, finger sized and angrily misshapen :(

The fading ones are a thing of beauty. A rectification.

by Anonymousreply 85November 16, 2021 7:32 AM

R85 Well then she's an idiot. You don't get your eyebrows done at a tattoo shop, with regular tattoo ink and needle.

by Anonymousreply 86November 16, 2021 8:35 AM

They are so conformist to the peer group of the wearer.

by Anonymousreply 88November 16, 2021 9:28 AM

Tattoos were for men from the service or circus performers when I was young. Later, I began to see them adopted by folks released from the prison system. Then they exploded as a general public fad, like rat tail hairdos and single diamond stud earrings. Tattoos don't accessorize well with anything. except for freak show accoutrements like crayola colored hair and sex shop piercings. They fit in fine with the carny crowd, but APPEAR trashy and unprofessional on anybody else, which is sad because of course these tragically hip victims can be genuinely sweet and intelligent people, but damn if it's not a HUGE obstacle to overlook. Now I see the entire generation that way, whether their body art is visible or not, I grumble,"that bitch has a big ol' tramp stamp" and walk on by.

by Anonymousreply 89November 16, 2021 9:35 AM

If you like an image, have it printed on your t-shirt.

by Anonymousreply 90November 16, 2021 9:56 AM

It's like they don't understand that their skin and body shape will shift over the years, and ink fades.

by Anonymousreply 91November 16, 2021 10:05 AM

I don't hate tattoos in general, I just don't like bad or excessive tattoos - the problem is, more often than not the people who get tattoos have zero taste or ability to limit it to one or two, and they just end up like graffiti. It's extremely rare for me to think someone looks better with tattoos than they would have been without.

by Anonymousreply 92November 16, 2021 10:24 AM

I've admired tattoos that were done by talented artists, but those are the exceptions. Too many people get ones that look like something you'd doodle in your notebook in school. If someone has several amateurish tattoos randomly covering much of his/her skin, it really looks bad. Instead of art, it's graffiti, as several here have already mentioned.

Excessive tattoos, excessive piercings, excessive plastic surgery, excessive displays of material possessions are all broadcasting the same thing. They reveal to the observer that these people are tryhards overcompensating for their significant insecurities or for their lack of an interesting personality. The impression they give is not one of confidence; it's the opposite.

Sure, it's your choice to alter your superficial surface however you wish, but don't think that what you've done is unique or edgy or new. Everything's been done already by generations long before you existed.

by Anonymousreply 93November 16, 2021 12:27 PM

Bad tats look like prison tats. I will move away.

by Anonymousreply 94November 16, 2021 12:33 PM

I don't mind them at all. It's a clear indicator they've been molested or abused as a child so I know to steer clear.

by Anonymousreply 95November 16, 2021 1:26 PM

They never appealed to me, although almost everyone I knew when I was younger was getting them. As a nurse I have seen too many ancient, puckered and faded tattoos to convince me that they will not stay looking good.

by Anonymousreply 96November 16, 2021 1:38 PM

In the early 1970's, the CBS Evening News had a feature story on what was then the LAST tattoo parlor in Los Angeles.

by Anonymousreply 97November 16, 2021 1:49 PM

As a man who likes to “rescue” damaged men (it never works out well in the end, but I’m still trying) tattoos are an identifier of a damaged person. Especially if they also smoke cigarettes and drink beer. So I like tattoos.

by Anonymousreply 98November 16, 2021 2:04 PM

I'm 29, so not an elder gay, and I think tattoos are trashy, piercings too. The only people who should be allowed to have tattoos are Holocaust victims, and they didn't ask for them. Tattoos and piercings are class indicators, as in you have none. Nose rings are for livestock, but at least you can take a piercing out. Tattoos are a permanent fad, as if you had to wear shoulder pads from the 80s for the rest of your life (unless your Joan Collins of course)

by Anonymousreply 99November 16, 2021 2:44 PM

Nose rings are worst when your waiter is wearing them in a restaurant. They look like enormous boogers about fall on your pizza Margherita or salade Niçoise.

by Anonymousreply 100November 16, 2021 2:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 103November 16, 2021 4:15 PM

To me a tattoo is like wearing the same outfit every day. You can't really change it, so it's there forever. I think I reached my peak of disgust when i went to a water park two summers ago and it seemed like every other person had horrendous ink somewhere on their torsos. And don't get me started when you go to a nice affair (like a classy wedding) and there are young women who should look gorgeous but their arms are covered in ink. Ugh.

Years ago I saw a small huddle at my local gay bar. I went over, curious as to what was going on. Some grossly overweight tatted out guy was unzipping his pants and showing the new tattoo that he had gotten on his dickhead. He gleefully announced that he was HIV positive and felt he had nothing to lose buy getting a dick tattoo. True story. That cemented my opinion that people who chose to get tatts are trash and treat their bodies as dumping grounds. I wish I was making this up.

by Anonymousreply 109November 16, 2021 8:10 PM

This thread is by the idiotic poster who loves to insult and name-call - there is no purpose other than him getting off on each response, because then he can post something stupid and insult people. You can tell because his gotos are "klan granny", "grandpa" and a grand sense of self-importance and smugness you can smell from space. He doesn't care about the question he asked or any of our answers because that is not the point of the thread.

He is a broken youngish person of color who needs extensive psychiatric help, shock therapy, and lobotomizing, before being committed to an island insane asylum where he is never heard from again.

by Anonymousreply 111November 16, 2021 10:36 PM

R111 - Why hasn’t he been banned from posting? And how can we make sure that happens?

Call me old all you want. I suppose at 56 I am to most of you. I loathe tattoos. Growing up in the 70s they were an indicator of a trashy person. It’s hard to shake that mindset, I admit. I’ve never seen anyone who looks better WITH a tattoo. They’re not like glasses. The more you have, the less I’m impressed by someone.

by Anonymousreply 118November 16, 2021 10:59 PM

I have also been taken aback by the large number of people here who are anti-tat. I mean I know real grandmas who aren't as anti-tat as some people here.

I notice a lot of people here have very restricted tastes in men overall, almost as if your tastes never developed beyond the very first man you saw that was attractive in your adolescence. I guess that's a result of growing up in the stone age with no internet porn.

by Anonymousreply 119November 16, 2021 11:30 PM

To those here who are pro-tattoos, are there any tattoo turnoffs? Too many, perhaps? Tattoos on the neck and/or face? Or is it all good?

People hide behind tattoos like they do with facial hair. There are endless topics of discussion detailing why and when certain tattoos were engraved, as if anyone cares, to deflect from asking anything personal

I always say, if I want art, I can go to a museum. Or view it online. I don't need to see it on me.

And plus, they don't really have the whole panoply of colors. You're basically limited to dark shades of blue, green, and sometimes red. When do you ever see pink, yellow, orange, white, black, brown, tan, light green, light blue?

by Anonymousreply 131November 17, 2021 12:30 AM

Or rather, tattoos are lame😑

by Anonymousreply 132November 17, 2021 12:32 AM

R125, I detest the recent emergence of "body art," which debases the traditions of tattooing among the cultures and classes for whom it represents various social values and rites of passage.

BUT using a reference from 1990, well before current trends altered the place of the tattoo in American culture, is distorting and a sign of the kind of dishonest cherry picking that we sensible people abhor worse than a tramp stamp popping from a buxom lass's bum cleavage.

What next, cunt? A treatise from 1970 on the need for incarceration of gay people or a paper from 1927 on the low intelligence of black people based on the shape of their temporal bones?

Fuck you.

1. The undercut haircut

2. The giant clavicle tattoo

Tattoos are the no F,F, or A on Grindr. There is so much ink on everyone that people are fetishizing white, natural, no ink and will put no tattoos in their profiles. Lately, it's one of the first questions I get.

by Anonymousreply 141November 17, 2021 4:50 AM

I won’t even wear a shirt that has lettering or a logo on it. I’m sure not going to ink it onto my body.

by Anonymousreply 143November 17, 2021 4:56 AM

I don't mind one or two tattoos that are meaningful, well-drawn, and moderately sized. But unfortunately many people just get run-of-the-mill designs and it does become an addiction to some people and they'll continue to cover their bodies. And of course, they look terrible as they lose fade/discolor along with skin changes you get older. I'm 26 btw and not an eldergay.

by Anonymousreply 149November 17, 2021 5:29 AM

The only thing that comes close to the DL obsession with tattoos is the endless and meaningless debate over circumcision.

by Anonymousreply 150November 17, 2021 5:46 AM

For me, it's a sign of bad taste and/or stupidity. My chubby niece has an ugly one on her fat, rounded, pimply shoulder, thus drawing more attention to a problem area. If you get your favorite things/current pop culture obsessions/family affiliations tattooed, you are stupid. I know a woman at work who announced she was getting her son's name tattooed on the nape of her neck. I thought her hair would always cover it up, but nope, she wears her hair up now so everyone can see it. Stupid.

by Anonymousreply 151November 17, 2021 5:58 AM

OP, for those who like that sort of thing, that is the sort of thing they like.

by Anonymousreply 152November 17, 2021 6:06 AM

The real question is why it so obviously bothers OP that older men don't like tattoos.

If he were confident in his taste, he genuinely wouldn't care whether other people disliked them, nor would he need to accuse them of being old.

by Anonymousreply 153November 17, 2021 6:09 AM

I guess I'm old for this purpose and what makes me retch isn't the look of tattoos, anymore than the look of clothes, hair etc.

It's the permanence of them, and the sense that they're not going to look as good or as stylish in 30 years.

by Anonymousreply 154November 17, 2021 6:53 AM

I find it hilarious that so many people these days get tattoos as a way to mark their "individuality"; yet they walk down the street and look exactly the same as all the other tattooed people.

R154, exactly. It's the permanence I have an issue with as well. I think "they sure better like that design when they're posing for the future child's wedding in 30 years!"

So many good-looking men ruined with hideous random tattoos.

by Anonymousreply 155November 17, 2021 6:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 157November 17, 2021 7:57 AM

Can we talk about how obnoxious and stupid piercings are next?

I can't take anyone with nipple-rings seriously. They look like drawer-pulls. And dick piercings make the dick unusable and annoying. Not only are they ugly, I don't want to fucking chip a tooth. Take that shit out. And I will never not laugh at anyone with a nose/septum piercing. God, you look stupid. And ear-gauges are the symbol of the total douchebag.

by Anonymousreply 158November 17, 2021 3:27 PM

I will never understand why anyone gets a tattoo or piercing.

by Anonymousreply 159November 21, 2021 4:45 AM

R158 I've never understood why an attractive man gets ink or piercings. Right or wrong, I've always associated both with poor self-image.

by Anonymousreply 160November 21, 2021 4:57 AM

R127 Having facial hair is more natural than dragging a steel blade across your face every morning. So tattoos are closer to shaving than they are to having a facial hair.

by Anonymousreply 161November 21, 2021 10:38 AM

[quote]I find it hilarious that so many people these days get tattoos as a way to mark their "individuality"; yet they walk down the street and look exactly the same as all the other tattooed people

For the people here who aren't old, you may remember when Chris Brown got wings tatted on his pecs. So many dudes went out and got wings on their titties after he did it, it spread like a virus lol. Do you work in a nursing home? It's literally impossible to find anyone under 30 who doesn't have at least a couple of tattoos. I've seen doctors, cooks, Wal street types, everyone has them.

I do think is a generation thing and also a prissy thing. Old gays from this site tend to have all sorts of ridiculous pet peeves, which explains why so many are bitter and alone.

by Anonymousreply 174December 13, 2021 11:18 PM

I don't mind my tattoos or when others have them. I needed to get mine as a sign of allegiance to the gang I'm in and we all have them. They're not obviously visible though because otherwise we'd be much easier to identify after we've been up to our usual mischief.

by Anonymousreply 175December 13, 2021 11:22 PM

R173 - “What a bunch of conformist old hags you guys are.”

Umm you’re embarrassing yourself. The conformists are the ones getting the tattoos.

by Anonymousreply 176December 13, 2021 11:25 PM

Tattoos are just the most obvious indication that someone is trashy.

Oh, and "It's literally impossible to find anyone under 30 who doesn't have at least a couple of tattoos."

Where in hell do you live? One of the outer boroughs?

by Anonymousreply 177December 13, 2021 11:27 PM

'I do think is a generation thing and also a prissy thing. Old gays from this site tend to have all sorts of ridiculous pet peeves, which explains why so many are bitter and alone.'

Well said. This site is awash with the most conventional gay guys who have a fixed stereotype of what a man should look like - 6ft, muscled, no tatts or piercings, short hair, clean shaven. Any variation from this and you start seeing comments about the guy being 'grubby', 'needs a shower', 'trashy' etc.

There is also a large contingent of Klan Granny fraus who have the same standards.

by Anonymousreply 178December 13, 2021 11:29 PM

I'm in my fifties, don't have any tattoos, but I like a lot of tattoos and have nothing against them, or anybody who has them. I think it's a kind of weird fad, in some ways, though. I never thought I'd see people with the sheer amount of tattooing some have. But subjectively I find them kind of cool, in general, and on some guys they're hot. If I was younger I'd probably do it, too. I still might.

by Anonymousreply 179December 13, 2021 11:30 PM

[quote] It's literally impossible to find anyone under 30 who doesn't have at least a couple of tattoos

Probably true, and definitely a great reason not to get them! In a few times you will really stand out from the crowd

Of course if you're a sheep by nature that may be a drawback

by Anonymousreply 180December 13, 2021 11:31 PM

'Where in hell do you live? One of the outer boroughs?'

Assuming you're some wizened hag huddled in your tiny Hells Kitchen apartment. What a vile snob you are.

by Anonymousreply 181December 13, 2021 11:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 183December 13, 2021 11:35 PM

No, it's not literally impossible. There are a lot of YouTubers, models, actors who are under 30 who don't have tattoos, for ex.

by Anonymousreply 184December 13, 2021 11:45 PM

I work in development for film and TV and covering tattoos is now part of every set as it has become quite hard to find young actors who don't have them, specially males.

by Anonymousreply 185December 13, 2021 11:49 PM

It really shows your age if you think people who were born after 1995 are getting tattoos to show non conformity, this hasn't been a thing since the 1970s, when you were young.

No one looks at a 20 year old today and thinks they're being non conformist for having a tattoo, that's how mainstream and common they are today.

by Anonymousreply 186December 13, 2021 11:54 PM

Tattoos on a beautiful body are like graffiti on a beautiful building. Tragic.

by Anonymousreply 187December 14, 2021 12:29 AM

by Anonymousreply 190December 14, 2021 12:42 AM

by Anonymousreply 191December 14, 2021 12:46 AM

R188 conformity. Because everyone else is doing it

by Anonymousreply 192December 14, 2021 12:49 AM

Tattoos are so overdone now. Even grannies have them...and not subtle, hidden ones. I don't mind one or two, I guess. Covering an arm or the body is a red flag for me, especially on the face. I can't imagine someone wanting to do that to themselves, when it's permanent. It does look trashy to me.

by Anonymousreply 193December 14, 2021 1:26 AM

Man made things are contrived. Nature has the purest beauty. I prefer an unmarked man.

by Anonymousreply 194December 14, 2021 1:27 AM

Tattoos...yuckers!

by Anonymousreply 195December 14, 2021 1:29 AM

I think what some people (like me) find strange is that people on here are so resistant to accepting that tastes change and fashions change. Customs change. You don't have to like it, but you do have to accept it. The reality is, the majority of people don't agree with you. They like tattoos, they like to get them, they aren't mentally ill, they're functioning, and they don't care about what you think. You need to accept that and move on.

by Anonymousreply 196December 14, 2021 1:32 AM

I don't have to like or need to accept tattoos. I'm just turned off by them. Get them if you want...I have my opinions. I'm sure there are some things people don't like about me and don't accept. If it makes you happy...fine. Still don't like them...don't care if I'm in the minority.

by Anonymousreply 197December 14, 2021 1:43 AM

I'm saying there are a lot of people here who are in denial about tattoos being a mainstream thing. If they said, "I don't like tattoos, I think they look ugly" then that's a matter of taste. But saying people who get them are mentally ill, or are lowlife trash, is not provable and probably not true, and was never true.

by Anonymousreply 198December 14, 2021 2:28 AM

Tattoos ruin a man’s looks to roughly the same degree as being 100 pounds overweight.

Only poor hygiene/being a maga is a bigger turn off.

by Anonymousreply 199December 14, 2021 2:36 AM

Well...they are mainstream now...and I get your point. You can't lump everyone in one category.

by Anonymousreply 200December 14, 2021 2:37 AM

by Anonymousreply 201December 14, 2021 2:37 AM

To me, it looks trashy and I wouldn't date a guy with tattoos. I was raised a certain way and tattoos will always be low class to me.

by Anonymousreply 202December 14, 2021 2:49 AM

It seems like the highest incidence of tattoos occurs in the 25ish to 35ish age group. I don't see as many on college kids so maybe the trend is fading or else the college kids' parents are paying them to not get a tattoo (I have heard of these parental bribes.)

by Anonymousreply 203December 14, 2021 2:53 AM

I could never bring a man covered with tattoos home to my mother. They’re ok for a hookup, but not a relationship.

by Anonymousreply 204December 14, 2021 3:00 AM

by Anonymousreply 207December 14, 2021 3:16 AM

by Anonymousreply 208December 14, 2021 3:17 AM

R203 Maybe college age kids are seeing how bad their parents' tattoos look now that they're in their 50s and the canvas is getting stretched or sagging.

by Anonymousreply 209December 14, 2021 3:18 AM

Whenever I see a tattoo I flash back to the walls inside a Times Square subway station.

by Anonymousreply 210December 14, 2021 4:05 AM

They're fucking ugly.

The mental process one has to go through to actually get one on their body is fundamentally diseased.

I don't care how wide-spread that disease is, it's still diseased.

Tattoos are repugnant. And there's just something wrong with people who would do that to themselves.

by Anonymousreply 211December 14, 2021 4:59 AM

OP is stuck in the 2010s. Tattoos are trashy. Now the trend is NOT having them anywhere. Lots of foolish trend followers will soon be desperately trying to get them removed so they can be current.

by Anonymousreply 212December 14, 2021 5:01 AM

Is OP over 30? Nobody under 25 thinks tattoos are a thing. They are viewed as something old people did.

by Anonymousreply 213December 14, 2021 5:04 AM

They're self destructive for the most part. It's an act of violence against your body. Sort of like going trans (if you are a trans who has gender identity disorder, that is, and not an autogynephile trans).

Look at the messes that usually have a medium-to-large number of tattoos. Sure, not everyone, but it's not a good sign of a stable individual.

by Anonymousreply 214December 14, 2021 5:07 AM

R213 you realize that there's far more people older than 25 than there are under 25 and of tattoo age, correct?

by Anonymousreply 215December 14, 2021 5:08 AM

And your point is what R215?

by Anonymousreply 216December 14, 2021 5:12 AM

Because there are so many crap tattoos.

Great tattoos are like art.

Really good ones are rare, a few are works of genius.

Most of them are awful.

by Anonymousreply 217December 14, 2021 5:19 AM

R216 I have no point, apparently.

by Anonymousreply 220December 14, 2021 6:11 AM

R217 Really good rundown. I would only add that even with some of the few that are works of genius, they're often ruined by hanging next to ones that are crappy.

In your dreams. Just look at all the musical artists aged 18-21 who have them. Girls too.

by Anonymousreply 226December 14, 2021 10:22 AM

I'm in style and on trend.

by Anonymousreply 227December 14, 2021 12:15 PM

Mainstream tattoos became popular in the 90s. It started with kids getting a small one or a tramp stamp. This trend had a long run...25 to 30 years. Unlike trends that you can change easily, you're stuck with them for life. It's not like changing your clothes or getting a new haircut. Even piercings can close up if you're tired of them.

by Anonymousreply 228December 14, 2021 12:22 PM

[quote] Why do so many men here hate tattoos?

Because they are so incredibly ugly and trashy.

by Anonymousreply 229December 14, 2021 12:34 PM

There are two types of tattoos that I don't mind at all:

1) Traditional tattoo for people whose culture has a history of tattooing (e.g. tā moko on Māori people)

2) Apotropaic, folk traditional tattoos on people who seriously practice the corresponding religion (e.g., a sak yant/yantra tattoo on a devout Theravāda Buddhist)

Outside of these examples, I usually find tattoos tacky and banal as hell.

by Anonymousreply 230December 14, 2021 12:45 PM

OP - Why do you care so much?

by Anonymousreply 231December 14, 2021 12:51 PM

Actresses, pretty young things, who pay big bucks to a hair stylist and makeup artist and wearing evening gowns costing thousands of dollars and they have random black line art tattoos scattered up and down their arms. It looks like dirt or a child scribbles with magic marker.

by Anonymousreply 232December 14, 2021 1:00 PM

If I'm on the beach and see a good looking person with zero tattoos I know that might be a person worth knowing.

by Anonymousreply 233December 14, 2021 2:36 PM

Tattoos are gross.

by Anonymousreply 234December 14, 2021 2:47 PM

Lots of people tried to convince to get one over the years. Never fell for the peer pressure.

by Anonymousreply 235December 14, 2021 3:49 PM

[quote] what the fuck makes you think rich people can't be trashy?

Who said they can't be? The comment was meant to the poster who said wealthy people wouldn't do it or accept it. It's nonsense from a nouveau riche person living in a McMansion.

Halsey has tatts like this. Thin line drawing scribbles all over her body.

Famous TikTokers like Vinnie Hacker and Chase Hudson have tattoos, and they're 18 or 19. Who says under-25's aren't getting tattoos?

[quote]To me, it looks trashy and I wouldn't date a guy with tattoos. I was raised a certain way and tattoos will always be low class to me.

I was raised to have good manners, and I do. But I was also raised to be straight, or, on the assumption that I was straight, and I'm not. It's okay not to think like your parents.

[quote]Famous TikTokers like Vinnie Hacker and Chase Hudson have tattoos, and they're 18 or 19. Who says under-25's aren't getting tattoos?

You mean "famous" trash.

As much as you're trying to make tattoos still be a thing, they're not. They're rapidly becoming viewed as something old people do.

by Anonymousreply 239December 14, 2021 5:53 PM

[quote]You mean "famous" trash. As much as you're trying to make tattoos still be a thing, they're not. They're rapidly becoming viewed as something old people do.

I'm not trying to make them still be a thing. I'm saying peopleunder 25 people get them. And yeah, they're famous. Famous means "known about by many people" and they are.

by Anonymousreply 240December 14, 2021 5:57 PM

It's a consumerist trend. They're expensive and painful and it's one more accessory you can buy to be cool and make yourself feel "different" from the drones about you. It's the height of narcissism.

by Anonymousreply 241December 14, 2021 8:36 PM

Yuck. Trashy looking. Go to a Walmart and you will see fat obese cows covered in them with fluorescent hair and squeezed into shorts 3 sizes too small with their guts falling over the waistband. That's what I think of the people with tattoos.

by Anonymousreply 242December 14, 2021 8:54 PM

I've seen a lot less of those ear gauge things lately. Those are so disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 243December 14, 2021 8:59 PM

Someone needs to invent a new body modification that is also expensive, like a subdermal microchip tattoo that glows, powered by wireless energy or something.

by Anonymousreply 244December 14, 2021 9:01 PM

The sort of people who love body art don't hang out on DL.

by Anonymousreply 245December 14, 2021 9:09 PM

It's just not for me because I see it as trashy. If you like tats, go ahead and get inked from head to toe. No one gives a shit. But no one is ever going to convince me that tattoos are a good idea. You asked the question and we all answered, OP. Sorry you don't like the answers you got. But we are free to have our opinions on what is tacky and what is not and there's not a damn thing you can do about it. Live and let live.

by Anonymousreply 246December 14, 2021 9:34 PM

I think what R241 says catches some important elements of this awful trend. I remember friends in the mid to late 2000s going nuts over some sexy guy with tattoos- but then the sexy guys kept getting more and more, and so did others to try to look sexy. It got out of hand. Tattoos are an instant turn off for me now. I cannot even engage in the idea of fancying the guy, because it symbolises so many shallow traits.

by Anonymousreply 247December 14, 2021 9:36 PM

The people who say it's "self destructive"...please explain. If it doesn't cause ill health or other destructive effects, I don't get what's supposed to be self-destructive. I work with a woman who got a tattoo that says "hope". How has she destroyed herself?

by Anonymousreply 248December 14, 2021 9:49 PM

Having ear gauges stinks! Literally stinks

by Anonymousreply 249December 14, 2021 10:59 PM

I prefer piercings, sorry.

by Anonymousreply 250December 15, 2021 12:23 AM

Chasten also has a tattoo. What does that say about Pete ?

by Anonymousreply 251December 15, 2021 12:27 AM

Maybe Pete likes tats. Or maybe he loves Chasten enough that he doesn't care. We'll never know.

by Anonymousreply 252December 15, 2021 1:08 AM

I pray to god that Pete doesn’t have a tattoo. I respect him so much and a tattoo would taint it.

by Anonymousreply 253December 15, 2021 1:11 AM

Chasten has two tattoos. One is a black infinity symbol on his right calf for his mother. .. And while it was done in memory of his father, the Jif peanut butter label on his arm is a mess.

by Anonymousreply 254December 15, 2021 2:25 AM

R223, "I come from a very wealthy family, my grandfather was a banker and the other one is a dean to a big university. Most of my wealthy cousins have tattoos, including the women."

So what are you trying to say, that your family is wealthy, yet thoroughly trashy? Congratulations, your wealthy cousins, "including the women" (!!!) could be Hiltons or Kardashians. Do they also have multiple babies with deranged hip-hop "stars?"

And yes, I'm like SO totally impressed at how wealthy your extended family is.

They are generally ugly, and detract from the beauty of natural human skin.

R206 Is this a joke? That's one of the ugliest tattoos I have ever seen. The placing, the SIZE..and why would anyone get a tattoo of an octopus? Are they a marine biologist that is specialized in octopuses?

by Anonymousreply 269December 16, 2021 11:25 PM

Eh—who cares what other people think. If you are doing any kind of body modifications like tats or piercings to impress others, or because of what people will say, positive or negative, it means you are immature and/or addicted to external validation. It should be about you and your own expression, despite what people say or think. It’s an art form, and if done right by a talented artist, it can be amazing. But there will always be people who put the equivalent of bumper stickers on their body. I don’t have tattoos, but I appreciate the medium.

I survived a plague that killed damn near everyone around me, including my best friend from when i came out, so ‘old’ isn’t the mark of shame you seem to regard it as, but a badge if accomplishment.

It’s really obvious that people like you fixate on ‘old’ as an insult because you’re TERRIFIED of getting older yourself, and you should be! You’re going to have a rough time of it; something to look forward to.

And the guy says something like, "In a heartbeat."

I think a lot of you doth protest too much.

by Anonymousreply 288December 26, 2021 6:06 PM

I’m not old (well, THAT old…I’m 42) but I’m not a fan of tattoos unless they’re subtle and very few in number. Some guys ruin otherwise great bodies with garbage graffiti. Justin Bieber case in point,

by Anonymousreply 303January 10, 2022 3:07 PM

They don't age well. The lines soften. Skin stretches. Ink can degrade over time. It's something for the young and those who plan to die young.

by Anonymousreply 304January 10, 2022 3:08 PM

I like some tattoos, but with very few exceptions, most people that have tats are not a "some" tattoos kind of person. No, they are not satisfied until their body becomes a human Etch-A-Sketch.

It's less about age/propriety or any sense of "prisspottery" and more that I just have a particular aesthetic. I am a big fan of symmetry and tattoos by their nature are rarely symmetrical, because the person adds to the canvas as their life moves forward.

There ARE guys who have very intricate and substantial tats on their arms/back that I have appreciated because they ARE symmetrical or look nicely done and not random.

by Anonymousreply 305January 10, 2022 3:08 PM

Since I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet (?) they are a great conversation starter. Not saying this is a reason to get tattooed, but it may be a reason not to hate them so much. Though if you hate them you won't want to talk to someone who has them, I guess. People do comment on each other's tats or piercings. If your comment is sincerely complementary you'll usually get a friendly response that can lead to getting to know each other.

by Anonymousreply 306January 10, 2022 3:32 PM

I don't necessarily mind tats. Some can look good; however, most become dated rather quickly. Why not just use temporary tattoo methods the current styles? Then switch out to something different.

by Anonymousreply 307January 10, 2022 3:44 PM

R307 Because that's not the idea behind getting a tattoo. It's not like a haircut.

by Anonymousreply 308January 10, 2022 3:50 PM

R308, I guess that explains why tattoo removal is such a huge and grown business?? Moron.

by Anonymousreply 309January 11, 2022 12:37 AM

Putting he-man tats on skinny arms always gives me a laugh. Which is why I find Justin Bieber hysterical.

by Anonymousreply 310January 11, 2022 2:10 AM

I got turned off tattoos early. I have a female cousin the same age as me and she got one when she was 14. She showed it to me, it was a daisy on her lower stomach. I was starting to think she was trashy, and the tattoo confirmed this. She's 41 with two kids now, I can't imagine that tattoo has held up.

by Anonymousreply 311January 11, 2022 2:36 AM

I thought you had to be 18 to get a tattoo.

by Anonymousreply 312January 11, 2022 2:39 AM

[quote] I guess that explains why tattoo removal is such a huge and grown business?? Moron.

Unless people are getting tattoos removed soon after they get them, and replacing them with other tattoos, then tattoo removal has nothing to do with the discussion of "why don't people get temporary tattoos that they can change?"...Genius.

What an excellent example. SO MANY people with tattoos look like a three-year-old drew on them with a marker while they were asleep. No balance, or proportion, or artistic unity! I genuinely wonder how they can stand looking at themselves. It’s all so fucking RANDOM!!!

Let’s not even get into how it makes the overweight look even WORSE! Ugh!

Tattoos can look great, depending on the quality of the tattoo, the quality of the body underneath it, and the placement of the tattoos. I even like some full body or sleeve tattoos when they are nicely done and the body used for the canvas looks great.

But indiscriminate tattooing all over the body looks stupid. Lena Dunham's tattoos look like a child scrawled all over her while she was sleeping, and her body is about as sexy as a sack of potatoes.

by Anonymousreply 340September 18, 2022 10:37 PM

Tattoos are called 'tramp-stamps' for good reason.

by Anonymousreply 341September 18, 2022 10:42 PM

I don't hate tattoos. But it is funny seeing all the 50 years olds with wrinkly old barbed wire tattoos around guns that are now flabby pistols. Or fraternity letters on backs of 50 year olds. What's fun in your 20s can look a little sad in your 40s and 50s.

by Anonymousreply 342September 18, 2022 10:48 PM

Leg tattoos are the worst. They should give out free manacles with every purchase.

Everyone being edgy together. And the piercings. Conforming non-conformists. Yawn, sigh, SCREAM.

by Anonymousreply 343September 18, 2022 10:49 PM

I blame Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson. Tattoos took off about 10 years ago, just when he was becoming huge at the box office.

Also, I agree w/the majority here. They don't add anything, all they do is make one look insecure, like they need some decoration to be 'somebody', to be noticed.

They're noticed all right, but not for the reasons they imagine.

by Anonymousreply 344September 19, 2022 1:26 AM

The WORST are those tats that wind around the neck, right up to the chin.

The only thing that's missing is a sign around their neck: Desperate for Attention.

by Anonymousreply 345September 19, 2022 1:27 AM

I had this older guy come to measure for new windows. He had the ugliest tattoos all over, like very prison tattoo look of random images. I just thought they looked horrible and really classless. But I’ve seen younger guys with them, which were nicely done, and they didn’t bother me. It is an age thing and the amount and area. On women, however, I think they mainly look really trashy.

On a side note: Brad Pitt is probably the most gorgeous 58 yr old, but the tattoos on his stomach and legs are an abomination.

by Anonymousreply 346September 19, 2022 1:38 AM

Because they all become mistakes sooner or later.

They look trashy. One tattoo is acceptable for men who have been in the military. It should be unobtrusively placed. These overly tatted up people, I can't imagine what they'll look like at 80 if they look this bad at 25.

by Anonymousreply 348September 19, 2022 2:02 AM

[quote] I had this older guy come to measure for new windows. He had the ugliest tattoos all over, like very prison tattoo look of random images. I just thought they looked horrible and really classless.

I hope you stared at them and said, "Icky! icky poo!" so he knew how far you stood above him.

The idea that only the lower classes are tattooed is just plain wrong.

Tattoos have been popular with royalty and with the aristocracy since King Edward VII was Prince of Wales, and even after:

[quote]In 1862, King Edward VII journeyed to the Holy Land to receive his first tattoo from a local master artist. The trip to have a Jerusalem cross placed on his arm made such an impact on him, he continued to tell the tale for years to come, and so impressed his sons that they made their own visit to the same tattoo artist 20 years later to have their own tattoos done.

[quote]In Russia, Grand Duke Alexis also made regular trips throughout the world to have his own tattoos done by master artists, including a journey to Japan to get an elaborate tattoo of a dragon that covered his entire right arm. The Grand Duke so enjoyed his tattoo journeys, he continued to take more and more, and so became the most tattooed man in all of Europe at the end of the 19th century.

[quote]Lady Randolph Churchill, the mother of Winston Churchill, also took part in the tattoo trend amongst the upper classes by having a small snake tattoo placed around her left wrist, although she was known to hide the tattoo with a bracelet while out amongst the more “proper” social circles around Wales. Sir Winston himself had an anchor tattoo on one of his forearms.

[quote]The draw of tattoos amongst royalty didn’t slow down in the 20th century. If anything, it sped up with the appearance of tattoos on some of the world’s most famous monarchs.

Archduke Franz Ferdinand was very proud of the “lucky” snake tattoo on his right hip, although it turned out to be not so lucky after all when it caught an assassin’s bullet and caused his death in 1914.

[quote]In Spain, King Alfonso XIII and his son, the Count of Barcelona both had tattoos. King Frederik IX of Denmark was also heavily tattooed, with multiple anchor tattoos, a Chinese dragon and his family crest found on various parts of his body.

[quote]The fascination with tattoos has continued on in today’s royalty, despite the old stigma remaining in place. Some of the most popular and influential modern royals have tattoos.

[quote]There is photographic proof that Princess Stephanie of Monaco has at least 6 tattoos on various parts of her body, including her upper back and ankle, and Juliana Guillermo, daughter of Princess Christina of the Netherlands has a small tattoo on her ankle. The royal rumor mill has also put out the word that Prince Harry, Prince Charles, and Zara Philips, daughter of Princess Anne, all have at least one tattoo. ?

Both King George V and his brother Prince Albert Victor had multiple tattoos.

Queen Camilla and the Princess of Wales both had henna tattoos, which were impermanent. William wanted to get a permanent tattoo, but Kate persuaded him not to get it.

Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark currently has permanent tattoos.

The vast majority of them are kitsch. It's like hanging black velvet Elvis paintings in your living room or driving around in a 70s-style airbrushed van, except you're never without them.

Tattoos are stupid, ugly, pointless, and painful.

There is not a single man who is hotter with tattoos than he'd be without them. They ALWAYS make you uglier. ALWAYS.

by Anonymousreply 355September 19, 2022 5:06 AM

Exactly R350! Young men are getting tattoos today because they're obviously inspired by Lady Randolph Churchill.

by Anonymousreply 356September 19, 2022 5:15 AM

My feeling is that everyone thinks they’re cool with a tat. But they probably thought the same thing when they bought their Jeep and drove to Burning Man. Sure, if this was 1986, they would be cool. These days, it’s tired and conformist, and an easy way out of developing something really interesting about one’s self.

by Anonymousreply 357September 19, 2022 5:24 AM

Yes and the royals constantly drink, hunt, breed dogs and marry their cousins. Royals, just like us

by Anonymousreply 358September 19, 2022 5:43 AM

They're sooo common now that I predict a coming trend of having NO tattoos. Young people will rebel against whatever is mainstream, and it will be a huge thing to have perfect, natural, tattoo-free skin. Tattoo removal will be big business.

by Anonymousreply 359September 19, 2022 7:57 AM

Start with lots of temp tattoos. Then go around and check out the suppressed looks of horror of every intelligent and decent person you meet.

by Anonymousreply 360September 19, 2022 9:09 AM

I think there is something in the ink that makes people want to get more tattoos. I have one tattoo and the artist said that I’d get addicted to them. I know what he meant. The whole process was painful but I found myself thinking of a second but decided against it. I’m 48. I got the tattoo in 2013.

by Anonymousreply 361September 19, 2022 9:25 AM

Getting a tattoo is a sign of bad decision-making skills.

by Anonymousreply 362September 19, 2022 2:57 PM

I'll say it again. Trashy. Every fat, walmart looking woman in tiny shorts, flip flops and tank top with gunts and muffin tops overflowing has them. They are always on govt assistance yet have money for tattoos.

by Anonymousreply 363September 19, 2022 3:05 PM

You described the entire cast of Teen Mom, R363. Talk about trash.

by Anonymousreply 364September 20, 2022 12:19 AM

I saw a hilarious movie the other night called The Roommate. The psycho roommate gets a tattoo that says Emily . Lo and behold, her roomie has one - it was her dead sister's name.

by Anonymousreply 365September 20, 2022 5:17 PM

Tattoos have been around for thousands of years. A lot of you are acting like it's some new phenomenon.

by Anonymousreply 366September 20, 2022 6:44 PM

Wouldn't mind if tattoos were easily removed. But it's a fashion and fashions ALWAYS change. What's hot today is laughable and ridiculed tomorrow. What are you all going to do when it goes out of fashion? Expensive laser removal?

by Anonymousreply 367September 20, 2022 6:53 PM

Not only do the bulk of you haters sound fun, you must be absolute thrills in the sack.

by Anonymousreply 368September 20, 2022 7:27 PM

[quote] Why do so many men here hate tattoos. You guys are old.

And you’re ugly.

by Anonymousreply 369September 20, 2022 7:29 PM

Because men with class, style and looks don't need tattoos. Why cover up perfection? Btw, I am absolute thrills in the sack, well I used to be before I got old.

by Anonymousreply 370September 20, 2022 7:31 PM

R366, the trend has been growing by 8%/year over the last 10 years. THAT is what's new.

by Anonymousreply 371September 21, 2022 7:09 AM

The real question is why do so many people LIKE them? They're just so ... ugly. Nasty. Painful. What even is the point? Why? What a complete waste of money and time.

by Anonymousreply 372September 21, 2022 9:09 AM

by Anonymousreply 375September 21, 2022 11:33 AM

Defacing the natural beauty of the human body is not my thing.

by Anonymousreply 376September 21, 2022 12:37 PM

When I was a child, the only people who had tattoos were lower-class people like sailors and people in freak shows. My grandparents rented a room to a man who had been in the Navy. He had tats. He was very nice, but always reeked of alcohol. I can't say I hate all tattoos, but many people get too many and don't have taste. My sister-in-law has a couple and they're just crude. Fortunately, she has to be wearing shorts or a sleeveless shirt for me to see them. And how are they a sign of originality when everyone gets them?

I also don't understand piercings and body modifications. Those gauges that some people get really gross me out. In regard to piercing, I know I'm not completely logical because if I don't have a problem with normal pierced ears, what's my issue with piercing other places? (Hygiene partly).

by Anonymousreply 377September 21, 2022 12:53 PM

When I see someone smoking I think, I'm so glad I quit. When I see someone with a tatoo I think, I'm glad I never got one.

by Anonymousreply 378September 21, 2022 1:24 PM

They're TRASHY. Seldom well done and even then- why mar beautiful skin?

by Anonymousreply 379September 21, 2022 1:31 PM

Tattoos are like Guy Fieri’s hair.

Agree with R359. Eventually young people will rebel against their old tattooed parents. Tattoos will be seen as uncool, except for the groups that originally had them (bikers, military, prisoners, etc.)

by Anonymousreply 382September 21, 2022 1:38 PM

Hand tattoos are sad.

by Anonymousreply 383September 21, 2022 1:42 PM

Tattooing is gilding the lily.

by Anonymousreply 384September 21, 2022 1:45 PM

I've started to see tattoos that are just a big black area in an arm or leg. What's the point of that?

by Anonymousreply 385September 21, 2022 1:47 PM

"Why do so many men here hate tattoos?"

I think they serve a valuable purpose-they're like a billboard, advertising how cheap and tacky their person is.

by Anonymousreply 386September 21, 2022 4:11 PM

R386- Love you.

by Anonymousreply 387September 21, 2022 5:21 PM

Tattoos are just graffiti on the human body... ugly and trashy and gross and something that should be cleaned off whenever found/seen.

by Anonymousreply 388September 21, 2022 10:26 PM

As I stated before tattoos fall into two general categories. The ones that look like you got from rolling around in a dumpster all night and the ones that resemble the graffiti on the walls of a Times Square Men's room.

by Anonymousreply 389September 21, 2022 11:55 PM

Old queens who are weird anti social bitter relics born in the 1930s.

by Anonymousreply 390September 22, 2022 12:08 AM

I’m a millennial, and 9 times of 10, i find them hideous. Also prefer porn without them (other than small ones that aren’t distracting).

by Anonymousreply 391October 26, 2023 4:47 AM

If god wanted us to have tattoos our skin would be etch-a-sketches and our fingers would be crayolas.

by Anonymousreply 392October 26, 2023 4:50 AM

My BFF (with benefits) gifted me with a tattoo of my dog for my birthday. No regrets. Even though it wasn't on my bucket list.
