She should be fuckin dead I tell you!

as long as that building still stands, and maggie can deliver lines, they might as well cash in on the franchise
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 15, 2021 3:40 PM |
Just hearing those first few notes of the theme song makes me smile
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 15, 2021 3:43 PM |
Well they aren't wearing black in the France photos, so Dowager isn't dead yet. Maybe they come home from their holiday to find her dead?
Where's Mary's boring husband?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 15, 2021 3:43 PM |
he ran off with the gay butler
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 15, 2021 3:44 PM |
Lord Grantham lost weight and also looks a bit GAY now.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 15, 2021 3:44 PM |
As the OP of the other thread (2 minutes later) I'll say here what I said there - it's well and truly a soap opera now. They already did the "Granny has a past" bit with the Russian guy. Now this. I believe this is known as a "retcon."
Of course I'll see it. But still.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 15, 2021 3:45 PM |
They should have done a prequel and had it set in the 1870's when Lord Grantham was a boy and his mother was a young woman.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 15, 2021 3:48 PM |
That'll be the next one, R8.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 15, 2021 3:49 PM |
Her character has to be in her late 90's by now. Which would be unusual but not unheard of for the time period.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 15, 2021 3:59 PM |
I have to say they paired Mary up with a very boring character. They should have hooked her up with Charles Blake (?) I think that was his name.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 15, 2021 4:03 PM |
Maggie looks great at 86.

Non Downton Downton. Ugh. When they run out of ideas they travel. SATC. I Love Lucy. Same as it ever was.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 15, 2021 5:46 PM |
I think they're playing a blinder. I think it's Carson who dies, possibly Robert, maybe Mary's tedious lame ass second husband. But as long as there's any chance they can get Maggie to Maggie, I would be surprised if they kill her off.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 15, 2021 6:10 PM |
You also gotta figure every time Maggie threatens to die, she gets another half million not to.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 15, 2021 6:13 PM |
R11 - I'm sure I remember reading that Julian Ovenden, who played Charles Blake, left the show earlier than Julian Fellowes had hoped. That may explain why the Mary/Henry romance was so rushed. A comment I read on reddit summed it up well: "Mary had more chemistry with Matthew's grave than she had with Henry."
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 15, 2021 10:36 PM |
Matthew Goode isn't in any of the shots in the trailer or the character list at the end. I think Lady Mary's death vagina may strike again.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 15, 2021 10:44 PM |
Not on the IMDB listing either.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 15, 2021 10:46 PM |
Thomas's love interest from the last film (Richard) isn't returning either.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 15, 2021 10:59 PM |
Thomas needs a man.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 15, 2021 11:09 PM |
Bonneville looks too thin. It doesn't flatter him.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 16, 2021 3:28 AM |
Talbot was listed in the characters from the first one even though he showed for about three minutes.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 16, 2021 3:39 AM |
Nice to see Tom and Lucy get married. Maud must be thrilled to the tits. AND Violet.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 16, 2021 4:06 AM |
Tom is now a SIL and a cousin by marriage.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 16, 2021 4:07 AM |
I love Downingtown Abbey.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 16, 2021 4:32 AM |
Is Bonneville sick or does he want to make sure he isn't the next one killed off...?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 16, 2021 12:49 PM |
I think he lost weight because of/during COVID... probably afraid he was too fat and old to survive it under his bigger weight but I really think he looks best with some pounds on him.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 16, 2021 5:08 PM |
Henry Talbot doesn't need to be there, that's for sure.
There will probably be weird absences due to COVID. Already it's interesting to see how everyone is spaced and placed in the trailer.
They should bring Spratt back and have Hannah Waddingham play Denker's replacement (so that Higgins and Rebecca from Ted Lasso are playing against one another).
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 16, 2021 5:12 PM |
I have to wonder how very old people are motivated to keep working this hard. I understand they love their craft and the money is great, but if it were me and I had the option to enjoy my last years on earth not dealing with the daily grind, I definitely would. What’s another million when you will probably be gone in the next few years?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 16, 2021 5:13 PM |
I would guess it's this. It's better than sitting home waiting to die. If the damn pandemic taught me anything, it's how nice it is to have something to do and somewhere to go.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 16, 2021 5:15 PM |
Plus it's not like it's a physical demanding shoot. Maggie Smith isn't doing GLOW or an action movie. She sits in a chair and says snarky shit.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 16, 2021 5:38 PM |
We're delighted!
by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 16, 2021 6:06 PM |
In both the movie promos Mary always gets the "What?!?" It must be in her contract.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 16, 2021 7:31 PM |
Lord Grantham: "Tom is getting married"
Mary "catchphrase"
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 16, 2021 7:35 PM |
If they go to France does that mean this is becoming the Brady Bunch? Because I love the Grand Canyon and Hawaii as much as the next gay but I have a heard time imagining Aunt Julian could imagine even an unconvincing way to get the Crawleys to either destination. Though I can imagine he'll give it a go.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 21, 2021 6:20 PM |
It appeared that Violet was quite the slattern. Two villas?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 21, 2021 6:45 PM |
Sad that they won’t continue Thomas’ romance from the first film. I was hoping Ed Speeler’s character would give Thomas a pity fuck after he softened to him during the series. Or they could have brought back the lovely Charlie Cox for a hate fuck or even let chunky Tom have some fun in his early windower years. So many missed opportunities for hot man love.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 21, 2021 7:00 PM |
My prediction: Two weddings and a funeral plot. Tom's upstairs wedding and perhaps a Daisy/Andy or Baxter/Moseley downstairs wedding. Then they come home from France and find Violet is taking her last breaths.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 21, 2021 10:13 PM |
I'm backing Lady Mary's death vagina. No credit for Matthew Goode anywhere.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 21, 2021 10:14 PM |
So is Violet going to die?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 15, 2022 2:24 PM |
It never works when a franchise tv show goes to a new location.
And there will be boycotts with Maggie Smiths line: Lawrence of my labia.
Heed my warning! This has disaster written all over it.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 15, 2022 2:31 PM |
What tragedy will befall Anna Bates? Battered wife is all Joanne Froggatt can play. It’s the niche she’s carved out in Brit tv.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 15, 2022 2:35 PM |
The problem is that the show's Boomer fans may still be shunning movie theaters in March. These people would watch a screen-saver for two hours if it was attached to the Downton Abbey franchise.
Michelle Dockery must feel like crap that she can't escape this role. She was supposed to be the break-out star. Why did Julian Overn bail? Not enough musical numbers? It looks like Dan Stevens made the right move, not because he's become a big star here but because his various projects make him a lot more money than he would on the BBC.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 15, 2022 2:45 PM |
Julian Ovenden, Sorry,

by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 15, 2022 4:52 PM |
Now, Mareh! Mareh! The sea is rough. If that bomb A-frames, don’t be too proud to bail out. Your fathah is very dear, but Downton cahn’t go on withoutchu!

[quote]Michelle Dockery must feel like crap that she can't escape this role. She was supposed to be the break-out star.
The paydays probably make her a very nice nest egg. She's worked steadily but definitely not particularly prominently. It must bore her, most of them, to have to deliver the same lines every script. But maybe they all get blind drunk on set and laugh at the easy money.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 15, 2022 4:55 PM |
Now pushed back again... to April 29 in the UK, May 20 in North America. To allow more wrinklies to feel safer coming back to the theaters after Omicron.
Granted, Downton is the dramatic equivalent of WonderBread but it's going from anodyne to worse with each passing attempt to make some money... this description lacks only Mrs. Hughes observing how the times are changing at Downton Abbey.
"The upcoming sequel will see the cast - which includes the likes of Hugh Bonneville, Dame Maggie Smith, Penelope Wilton and Michelle Dockery - travel to the south of France to uncover a mystery at a villa. (God, it sounds like when Laverne and Shirley moved to LA.)
"Downton creator Julian Fellowes previously teased some details about the movie, which is based on the acclaimed TV series. Speaking about the project, Julian shared: 'It's really a new era. The further the '20s went along, the more the world was changing in so many ways. Everything from entertainment to transport was really different by the end of the '20s. That's what we're referring to in that. He said: 'As we know from the last film, Mary may not be the titular head of the household, but she is effectively running the show. We take that further. We're trying to mark the change - the fact that Crawleys of Downton are nearly in the 1930s, which is merely the beginning of the modern world.'

They're doing it all for Americans, of course. Those tacky idiots will buy anything.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 27, 2022 2:37 PM |
Oh God, Hugh Bonneville looks so old. The once burly daddy is now a skinny senior citizen with old man eyes.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 27, 2022 3:05 PM |
They're doing it for money, R56, they don't care where it comes from.
Agree about Bonneville. His weight loss makes him look like he's ill, which I hope he isn't. Probably got scared over COVID, took the weight off too fast, and how he doesn't even look like himself.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 27, 2022 3:18 PM |
That villa she inherited -- at first I thought it was Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, but it is not.
The shooting location was another villa, this one in La Pradet to the west of Cap d'Antibes.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 27, 2022 3:57 PM |
The Villas are in BARBADOS!!!!
Violet, the Dowager Countess Grantham, inherits s sugar plantation with slaves. Thomas is put in charge to manage.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | January 27, 2022 4:10 PM |
The new trailer. No sign of Henry Talbot, and there's a hint of a flirtation between Lady Mary and another man. Also looks as though Thomas might get some action.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | February 15, 2022 3:29 PM |
I would love for Lady Violet to say something about having a room with a view. Perhaps they can fast-forward to the 1960s and either Edith or Mary is played by Dame Maggie. That would be a great way to end the franchise.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | February 15, 2022 3:36 PM |
Edith looks as unfortunate as ever.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | February 15, 2022 3:37 PM |

I can't believe Cora did that.
What's Mrs. Hughes supposed to say now?

He's not on the IMDB cast list either and you could argue in the family wedding photo (where he is not, again) Mary is dressed in late mourning.
I think the death vagina has done it again.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | February 15, 2022 3:45 PM |
Did anybody else think Thomas gets some bone from Dominic West? And has anybody told Lady Rose?
by Anonymous | reply 66 | February 15, 2022 3:47 PM |

Shirley, you jest. The franchise will continue until SIR Julian Fellowes munches dandelions from the root.
Two a decade until then. We will see Georgie, Lord Grantham and the last of the Debutantes.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | February 15, 2022 3:57 PM |
I saw the actor who plays Lord Merton on Prime in a show from the late seventies called The Duchess of Duke Street. He was handsome, no surprise.

We're not so far off the point the gang will be so old they won't have many offers of work, at which point I'd bet money on a series resumption.

Douglas Reith is dishy at any age.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | February 15, 2022 4:02 PM |
The premise of a film being shot at Downton seems ridiculous to me (if meta.) Can't imagine an aristocrat agreeing. They were barely opening their houses then. As usual, Fellowes tries to cram too much in to ensure each one of the hundred characters gets a full two minutes of dialogue.
