New gay movies

One hears Brokeback Mountain is promising.

Most gay movies sucked overall honestly. The only good ones I have found is Love, Simon and Call Me By Your Name.

King Richard.

CMBYN isn't even good. God's Own Country is much better.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 27, 2022 11:47 AM |
R2 Both of those movies were terrible. Especially Love Simon. I couldn’t tolerate more than 20 minutes of that dreck.
I will say that Dekoo has some interesting finds on their platform.

I'll watch a couple of these because the young men look very attractive but ordinary too. I don't mind kind of lame marginal gay movies if they attempt to tell a story about average young guys.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 27, 2022 12:28 PM |
R6 The guys in God's own country were handsome and sexy, particularly the Romanian one.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 27, 2022 12:49 PM |
Isn't it more fun to just watch Joanie? Or something?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 27, 2022 1:11 PM |
That movie in R13 is very good, but I hated the ending, ugh. Well worth the watch though, some hot sex scenes too.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 27, 2022 2:27 PM |
Shelter is always going to be one of my go-to gay movies.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 27, 2022 2:47 PM |
Zach's sister in Shelter, Tina Holmes, also played Maggie in Edge of Seventeen. Also had a recurring role in Six Feet Under.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 27, 2022 2:57 PM |
I'm still waiting for a middle aged gay romance. Gay teens and young people bore me and the Eldergay films are too macabre.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 27, 2022 3:18 PM |
R21 I just suggested on another thread that a good couple for gay erotic movie would be Armie Hammer and Tom Hardy. That would be a nice (early) middle aged couple.

BROS, un film de Billy Eichner.
A ground-breaking film humanely depicting white gay men in all their humanity, a first in world film history.
(According to Billy Eichner in interviews).

I hear that Dawson‘s 100 Load Weekend is in preproduction but had been delayed due to a writer‘s strike.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 24, 2022 11:10 AM |
Here are the NEW 2022 gay films. Notice how the Latin films look much better than their American counterparts? US gay cinema used to exist at one time.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 24, 2022 11:23 AM |
You can't tell much from a 10-second clip and brief summary, but a lot of those films look quite interesting to me.
And how can DLers resist a movie set in a caftan store ("The Blue Caftan")?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 24, 2022 11:53 AM |
R34 Same goes for tv shows. American tv shows suck when it comes to gay representation. It's so bad that most of the so-called "representation" is borderline offensive. Either gay characters are barely there, neutered or stereotypes. To add insult to injury they also kill them off (like House of Dragon). The CW shows are horrendous when it comes to gay (as in male) representation. What they did to Kevin on Riverdale is unforgiveable. Funny how they didn't have any trouble giving the lesbians a good storyline. It was only the gay male character they treated like shit, as usual. The only good gay character to come out of the US this year has been Tyler on Partner Track, and even that storyline wasn't perfect. I would have liked to see a more masculine guy play Tyler (once again there's a femme character). However, at least he got plenty of screen time, he got to kiss and have sex. He was treated the same as his straight counterparts, been a while since that happened, at least on American tv. I'm actually surprised this show was on American Netflix because American Netflix doesn't have a good track record when it comes to gay characters. Foreign Netflix is usually better. Now there's that American Vampire show coming out in October. From the trailer it looks good, but I'm afraid I'll only end up disappointed. We'll see.
Sorry for my rant. Tl;dr. Short version: avoid American tv shows and American movies if you wany good gay storylines and good representation. Foreign tv shows and movies are usually better. Miles better.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 24, 2022 11:54 AM |
America hates gay males. They have gone back to stereotyping gay men. It’s back to pre-90s era.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 24, 2022 12:05 PM |
R37 your film is not a new gay film. I’m sure it’s better than any recent American gay film but it’s not what the thread is asking
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 24, 2022 12:09 PM |
R33 Lol!
On another note, I can’t think of any particularly good gay movie. I think I’ve been too destroyed by porn. I really enjoyed Law of Desire (Ley del Deseo) by Almodovar. For those who’ve not seen it, it’s worth it just to see a young Antonio Banderas’ when he’s about to get fucked. Jesus!

My fake boyfriend is a new gay movie this year. Watching it now. It's avilable on Prime Video.

Dylan Sprouse looks good. I thought it was Cole at first lol.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 24, 2022 5:23 PM |
Just finished the movie. It was a good movie, sweet and cute and funny.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 24, 2022 6:32 PM |
I really enjoyed the recent Italian film [bold]Mascarpone[/bold]. It's about 30-year-old Antonio, who is suddenly dumped by his husband. Since they've been together for 12 years, Antonio finds himself with few friends of his own, no job, no residence, and no experience with the current gay scene. He ends up renting a room from a gay sex worker, gets a job as an apprentice to a hunky baker, and begins to find himself and explore what it means to be single again.

Saw Exploited yesterday. Didn't expect anything, but wow, what a nice surprise! It was very entertaining. Suspense, gay sex scenes, hot guys, some nudity. It had everything! Loved it!

R69 Not threatened. I just don't care. This is a gay website for gay men. But if you want to make a thread about lesbian movies you can. Nobody is stopping you.

I'm one of the rare people, I think, you has not seen CMBYN and I have no interest really. I read a little bit about it, and I dunno, the most annoying plot in gay movies to me is "gay men sleep with women" which I believe happens in this movie, so I really have no interest now. Plus, I know this makes me weird compared to most, but I don't find either of the leads very interesting.
I realise I'm talking about something I haven't seen, so I could be very wrong here, but this is how it strikes me.
R78 there is no way I could watch that. I find the trailer upsetting enough as it is. Too close to my childhood, I think. Having close friendships ruined like that at school really did a number on me.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | February 26, 2023 6:58 PM |
R79 I haven't seen it either. I've read about it though. I don't think I'm missing out tbh. It didn't even have a love scene. One movie that's very underrated and came out about the same time as CMBYN is God's Country. That was a very good movie and well worth the watch imo.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | February 26, 2023 7:02 PM |
This one looks interesting... gay movie from Norway.

Jacob Elordi's other gay movie: On Swift Horses.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | March 7, 2023 3:13 PM |
I enjoyed The Gays Of Inisherin, All Quiet On The Stonewall Front, Pelvis, Gays Lisping, but I though Gay Everything, Everywhere All At Once was overrated.

This movie looks good. It's about gay priests.

I can't watch "Dawson's 100 Load Weekend" movies anymore, now that they're all CGI.

I watched "Of an Age," "Mascarpone" and "Wildhood" over the past week. I thought all were worthwhile in different ways, but Of an Age is the one that really stayed with me.

Of and Age is amazing. The chemistry is electric between the two guys. Had a decent run at the cinema here in Sydney.
We’ll with a watch.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | May 25, 2023 9:03 AM |
Sorry R93 but I couldn't watch it, as soon as the obviously synthetic voice starts up the desire to throw myself off some dark moody sea cliff in a rainstorm becomes far too intense.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | May 25, 2023 2:14 PM |
Thanks, R97. Being of Polish descent, I look forward to seeing that. I also enjoyed the Polish film "In the Name Of" from 10 years ago.

Another recent Polish film. I haven't watched it yet, but reviews have been good.

R98 You need to watch Floating Skyscrapers if you haven't already. It's a Polish gay movie from 11 years ago. The movie is beautiful but heartbreaking. It doesn't have a happy ending, just so you are warned.

Watch some non-American gay-themed films, then. I agree that the American movies have a lot of gay stereotypes, which is a big turnoff.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | April 6, 2024 12:23 AM |
R102 Foreign gay films are usually better than American. Better acting, better stories, more explicit etc.

Femme - 2023 British film out in American theaters now
I just saw it yesterday. Excellent. And the two leads were hot in the multiple sex scenes
by Anonymous | reply 105 | April 7, 2024 12:58 PM |
Maybe this one was mentioned above. If so, sorry for the repeat. The other night we were looking for something new and ran across Slay, low-budget (though watchable, maybe just barely) "Tubi original" movie. It's kind of a Priscilla meets To Wong Foo meets From Dusk Till Dawn - a silly drag queen vs. vampires comedy horror film. It's pretty bad but might be worth a look if you're into this sort of thing.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | April 17, 2024 9:19 PM |
R105 Femme was good, but very dark and depressing. And once again I hated the ending. The actor in the main role in this plays gay on the Disney+ show Culprits. May be worth checking out.

'Femme' is good. The lead tattooed actor George McKay does a great job.
