Henry Cavill is compared to a Westworld robot in Hollywood Reporter coverstory

The Aspergers is supposed to get more pronounced as one gets older.

“‘What is something that you wish you had known at the beginning of your career that you know now?

“This time, Cavill asks for a moment to think about the question. He goes silent. He gazes at the carpet, looking a bit like a Westworld robot that’s powered down. Seconds tick by. Is this awkward? Well, yeah. I’m sitting with Superman in a hotel room and absolutely nothing is happening and it feels like something has gone terribly wrong in this interview, even though it hasn’t (has it?), but damn this is uncomfortable and probably my punishment for not simply asking another Witcher question. The tape recorded Cavill’s contemplative pause as lasting 42 seconds, but I’d have sworn it was at least two minutes.

SCORCHINGLY HOT GOSSIP! THANKS OP!

by Anonymousreply 1November 10, 2021 3:10 PM

God forbid someone stop to consider an answer rather than regurgitate talking points! Mental illness!!!!

by Anonymousreply 2November 10, 2021 3:19 PM

Henry Cavill is not very animated. Several years ago during the Bucket Challenge (to promote some disease which I've forgotten) he and Superman co-star Amy Adams had buckets of water poured over them and he just sat there and said not one single thing. She did but he was like a robot. I've never forgotten how wooden he was.

The disease being promoted was Glaciesitulitus.

The reporter sounds like an insipid asshole, highly unprofessional, immature. He's clearly writing as if he's posting to Gawker or Vice, trying to inject cutesy commentary between the lines, a tired trope that Millennials both crave and popularized.

THR should be embarrassed that this is the caliber of writers they've resorted to having to hire. Cavill may or may not be robotic, awkward, difficult, I don't know. I know nothing about the guy. But the "journalist" who did this story is embarrassing. Not even worthy of a serious college newspaper.

by Anonymousreply 6November 10, 2021 3:33 PM

The next Bond will be Henry Golding or Idris Elba. Or perhaps an unknown. Cavill is entirely too white and boring for today's audiences.

by Anonymousreply 7November 10, 2021 3:34 PM

How much did his people pay for that cover? What a random person for them to put on their cover.

by Anonymousreply 8November 10, 2021 3:37 PM

R5 Guess so. He’s staying in that closet for the rest of his life.

by Anonymousreply 9November 10, 2021 3:38 PM

Why would it be random? Witcher Season 2 comes out soon.

by Anonymousreply 10November 10, 2021 3:38 PM

R10 And it’s just one of a million different series on Netflix. I don’t know of anyone except you fangurls who give a shit about it.

by Anonymousreply 11November 10, 2021 3:39 PM

R4 Henry looks and acts like a very quiet gay man in that clip.

by Anonymousreply 12November 10, 2021 3:41 PM

They made me remove that line from the article r12 but that’s what I was going for.

by Anonymousreply 13November 10, 2021 3:45 PM

[quote]The tape recorded Cavill’s contemplative pause as lasting 42 seconds

Imagine being SO worried about your image that you take 42 seconds of silence to figure out how to answer a fucking simple question because god forbid you say the first thing that comes to your mind. This is why his tv interviews are always so boring - he can’t ever just let the conversation flow.

by Anonymousreply 14November 10, 2021 4:06 PM

I don’t think he’s taking the time to formulate a glib PR answer as much as he’s taking the time to formulate ANY answer.

I suspect a similar pause would take place if he went to Starbucks, was told his usual drink was no longer available, and he would have to order something else.

by Anonymousreply 15November 10, 2021 5:43 PM

Remember the awkward bbc radio interview? I’m not a fan of the interviewer but I still can’t get awkward how robotic and awkward cavil is. And honestly he took that stupid superman role so seriously, it’s not Shakespeare!

Henry is my number 1 crush but even if he wasn't I'd defend him over that twatty Nick Grimshaw interview.

Those junkets are just so ridiculous, the actors get asked the same questions over and over again and Henry have boring replies to boring questions.

Jimmy Kimmel gets him going.

[quote] The next Bond will be Henry Golding or Idris Elba.

I agree it is likely to be someone who is non-white, but I think it's extremely unlikely to be Elba. He's 49, and they won't start shooting until next year. That's too old to re-start the franchise again, since they will want someone who can play the role for ten years or longer.

It's far more likely it would be someone younger like Golding or Regé-Jean Page (I am betting on the latter).

I also think if they do go with another white man, Cavill is too associated with both Superman and the Witcher to have him be a THIRD franchise action hero.

100%. This is what a lot of journalism reads like nowadays.

by Anonymousreply 22November 10, 2021 9:06 PM

I really wish he would shut up about Bond and Superman, at this point it’s just chasing windmills. He has three films in development and a series to occupy his time, it makes him seem retarded to keep going on about things that will never happen.

by Anonymousreply 23November 10, 2021 9:50 PM

[quote]...Cavill’s brawn is quickly contrasted by his genteel demeanor that his colleagues say is typical of the 38-year-old Englishman.

He's not even English. He's from Jersey. They're called Islanders.

by Anonymousreply 24November 10, 2021 11:40 PM

Bond and Superman keep being mentioned because what else will garner attention?

by Anonymousreply 25November 10, 2021 11:44 PM

I'd like to see the Cavill that article tries to sell us because the real one is not a star. He's a lump of wood.

by Anonymousreply 26November 10, 2021 11:46 PM

He actually liked the article, if he is to be believed

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 27November 11, 2021 1:10 AM

Of course he liked it. It tried to paint him as a contendah.

by Anonymousreply 28November 11, 2021 1:11 AM

OMG. Of course he liked it! That’s some high-priced PR he’s paying for there. You think THR was like “Let’s make Henry Cavill our cover boy!” For the 2nd season of a Netflix series? Please. He’s playing Sherlock Holmes as a supporting role to fucking Millie Bobbie Brown? This was his Bond play. Barbara Broccoli may be saying it’s not on until next year but the race is on and he obviously still believes he should be in contention.

But all the stuff they go on about in that interview, military this and military that, those are the very reasons he’s so limited as an actor. He’s a plank of wood.

by Anonymousreply 29November 11, 2021 1:39 AM

The military stuff makes no sense in light of his wanting to go on the stage. But that's not butch enough, of course.

by Anonymousreply 30November 11, 2021 1:42 AM

[quote]I really wish he would shut up about Bond and Superman, at this point it’s just chasing windmills.

Yeah, it’s getting almost creepy how he keeps obsessing over these two fucking characters. Move the fuck on!

by Anonymousreply 31November 11, 2021 2:04 AM

Why does he even give interviews? They’re SO rehearsed and he says the same damn thing each time.

Too bad he’s such a pussy and is so worried about his image and what people think of him that he doesn’t just show his real personality (if he has one).

by Anonymousreply 32November 11, 2021 2:05 AM

He's made some prize ignorant comments. His career would be over if he spoke his mind more.

by Anonymousreply 33November 11, 2021 2:08 AM

R33 At least it would be more entertaining than his acting.

by Anonymousreply 34November 11, 2021 2:09 AM

The interview -- or the cheeky rehash of an older interview -- at R16 has 1.5k "thumbs up" and 4.4k "thumbs down".

Do the math.

by Anonymousreply 35November 11, 2021 2:12 AM

I feel if he were cast as James Bond it would be a step back for the brand instead of forward. He could have been James Bond in the 90s, he’s a throwback to the pierce brosnan and Timothy dalton bond although in my opinion not as charismatic as brosnan. I just think it would be regressive of them to hire him. He could play bond in an advert maybe, perhaps that would suit him more- a martini advert.

by Anonymousreply 40November 11, 2021 6:09 AM

If he were cast as Bond he would be the equivalent of a 21st century Roger Moore without the charm and charisma.

by Anonymousreply 41November 11, 2021 6:12 AM

I’d love them to keep surprising people with someone unexpected like they did with Craig. Honestly it was pretty boring to me for so long and when Craig was cast I think It really shook things up. What gets boring now is even their ethnic choices are sort of safe and boring - Henry golding and rege Jean page. Idris is almost too established in my opinion, but I guess he would be more interesting than the other two. I can already see them arching their eyebrows and delivering their lines in a very predictable way.

by Anonymousreply 42November 11, 2021 6:19 AM

Casted.

by Anonymousreply 43November 11, 2021 6:34 AM

[quote]I agree it is likely to be someone who is non-white

It won't be anyone nonwhite. That would piss off the bedrock fan base: white males. Neither would it play in China. The US Gen Z fanbois and gurls cheering for it don't comprehend that in the rest of the world -- where 77% of Bond's earnings come from (it's a unique franchise in that respect), whiteness is still seen as beautiful and aspirational, and they enjoy seeing a white man playing the role.

by Anonymousreply 44November 11, 2021 7:43 AM

Poor R44 better brace himself. You’re being replaced, mate.

by Anonymousreply 54November 11, 2021 11:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 55November 11, 2021 11:14 PM

by Anonymousreply 56November 12, 2021 12:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 79November 13, 2021 2:11 AM

Does Henry shove a dildo in his ass and masturbate while thinking of Corey?🧐

by Anonymousreply 80November 13, 2021 9:41 AM

R80 Graham Norton should ask Henry that next month.

by Anonymousreply 81November 13, 2021 12:07 PM

Were they real boyfriends? He used to look so happy when he was out and about. I wonder if he looks back at those pictures and misses being free. I know I would.

No job in the world is worth the humiliation. I'd never out someone but these people are also very selfish forcing their friends and lovers to lie. I empathize with people in the closet because I've lived in it too but I never asked anyone to lie for me except some exes who were also in the closet and didn't mind doing it.

[Quote] very selfish forcing their friends and lovers to lie.

by Anonymousreply 84November 13, 2021 7:26 PM

Lie about them being straight, about not being involved with them, etc. Many celebrities are out to family and friends but not to the public. They live under constant pressure and anxiety over not outing the celebrity relative or lover, they change their whole lives so that these assholes can live a sham.

It's very selfish to impose this on everyone, I think.
