Did I just choose a bad one?

It's like a raw potato. I don't see the appeal.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 10, 2021 2:40 AM |
It looks on the inside as bland as i imagine it would taste.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 10, 2021 2:41 AM |
The article says it has a taste similar to a kiwi and pear combination. I love some types of pears but kiwis have absolutely no taste to me.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 10, 2021 2:43 AM |
It tastes amazing when you add sugar.

Anything tastes amazing when you add sugar.

It's all about cherimoya.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 10, 2021 2:48 AM |
Nope, I do not get them at all.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 10, 2021 2:49 AM |
One of my least favorite fruits.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 10, 2021 2:50 AM |
One word....meh.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 10, 2021 2:50 AM |
I agree that a good one should taste something like kiwi/pear. Nice change from the usual fruits. The skin should be a bit soft and evenly colored when ready to eat.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 10, 2021 2:51 AM |
They are very boring and pointless
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 10, 2021 2:52 AM |
OP deserves to have a flaming dragonfruit shoved up his hemorrhoidal ass for using the word "underwhelmed."
What did you want, cunt. To be overwhelmed by a fruit you had never met before?
Not with your looks, cunt.

r12 was dropped on his head as a child.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 10, 2021 2:56 AM |
why are they so expensive?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 10, 2021 2:57 AM |
r14, it's because dragons lay only one fruit each year and their nests are high in the Tibetan alps.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 10, 2021 2:59 AM |
Dragonfruit tastes bland. I live in Asia and travel constantly across the continent. You find this wretched fruit in every single breakfast buffet in hotels (and we’re talking 5 star hotels). I always eat one or two and have always been underwhelmed too.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 10, 2021 2:59 AM |
The pink tastes better , much sweeter , the white one is trash.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 10, 2021 3:01 AM |
Yellow-skinned dragonfruit is delicious and worth seeking out. The white-fleshed red-skinned variety is rather bland. It needs a squeeze of lime and maybe a squirt of agave syrup. There is also a variety with red skin and ultra-bright fuchsia flesh. It tastes better than the white variety, but not as good as the yellow.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 10, 2021 3:07 AM |
Also, R15, extracting a fruit from the nest is very delicate work unless the dragon has stepped out for a moment.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 10, 2021 3:10 AM |
I buy frozen pieces for smoothies but that’s it.

The quality of R13's mind:
OP, I went passed this thread three times, because I felt to open it and read your OP would rip my heart out again. I’ve lost two over the last 4 years (brother and sister). But then I thought if I could help in some way, it’s my obligation to be there and give you virtual hugs knowing what you’re going through.
When I lost the first one I cried like a little schoolgirl for DAYS. The first day I was all the time. The next days I had to go to work with no other choice, so I would find the bathroom or a private place at work and cry some more. To look at me you’d get quite a, well I don’t know what (a laugh?) from seeing this big burly blue collar guy crying over his cat, but guess what? I had to. I didn’t think the pain would ever go away. The good news is, while it never goes away, it does lessen a bit. You’ll always remember George as I do mine, and there will always be a tug at your heart when you think of him, but I promise you, soon you’ll remember him and smile rather than cry. You’ll remember something he did that’ll make you laugh until you cry and those will be happy tears.
George will always be with us in our hearts and minds.
I wish I had sage advice to make you feel better, but I really don’t. I just ducked in here to let you know two things: you’re not alone and it truly does get a little better with time.
**hugs**

As a dried fruit pretty good. Sorta tart, puckery & sweet as well.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 10, 2021 3:27 AM |
Damn R22 really fucking likes her some dragonfruit!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 10, 2021 3:27 AM |
I've had a few and they're ok.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 10, 2021 3:27 AM |
R15 thank you for a much needed smile
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 10, 2021 3:28 AM |
R22 I sure hope you're in the wrong thread - if not, godspeed.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 10, 2021 3:30 AM |
It's over-rated and over-priced.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 10, 2021 3:31 AM |
It looks like it would taste like watermelon.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 10, 2021 4:05 AM |
R29 Without the flavor
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 10, 2021 4:07 AM |
IME, not great. Had it at a Vietnamese restaurant. The texture is nice, but I don't remember any great flavor.
Rambutan is another exciting-looking fruit that lacks flavor.
Lychee, on the other hand, absolutely delicious. If you get a chance, try it. Chilled is better. Even the canned ones taste pretty good.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 10, 2021 4:08 AM |
I’ve had the white flesh and the fuchsia flesh versions and they are both watery and tasteless. I like kiwis and pears just fine. Rambutans also have plenty of flavor.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 10, 2021 4:27 AM |
[quote] the white one is trash.
The white-trash dragons are the worst. Instead of living in castles, they live in trailer parks. And they're all Trump supporters. No surprise that their fruit sucks.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 10, 2021 4:29 AM |
That's what Portia calls me when she's drunk.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 10, 2021 4:36 AM |
Why all the posts about dragons? Did they really evolve from dragons or have anything to do with dragons at all?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 10, 2021 4:54 AM |
The taste reminds me of that white middle part of Bomb Pops (I think it was allegedly supposed to be lime flavor?). It's a faint taste, but then the appearance of the fruit is about 95% of its appeal.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 10, 2021 4:54 AM |
Are dragon fruit the same thing as pitaya?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 10, 2021 6:55 AM |
It's a very subtle taste, far more underwhelming than you'd assume from how exotic it looks. I like it, but I'd only ever eat it in a tropical country where it's grown - I think it loses even more flavour when exported.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 10, 2021 10:37 AM |
I think they're best used as a display in a big fruit bowl or tray, because they look so much more impressive than they taste. Like the Buddha's hand citrus.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 10, 2021 1:35 PM |
R36 is whimsey-impaired.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 10, 2021 1:58 PM |
R40, thanks! Pitayas in South America are amongst the best fruit I've ever eaten. The ones sold in American supermarkets must be a different variety.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 10, 2021 5:44 PM |
As my great-Aunt Inez used to say about her son Wally, "that boy would eat shit if you put a little sugar on it".
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 10, 2021 5:53 PM |
I thought lychee and rambutan were pretty much interchangeable?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 10, 2021 6:49 PM |
It's still not as bad as a starfruit.

I may be old, but I still got it.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 11, 2021 12:37 AM |
Dragonfruit is considered a superfood and it looks cool in a tropical fruit salad, even if it isn't all that distinctive tasting. I hope the better-flavored yellow variety becomes more available (and less costly).
by Anonymous | reply 50 | November 11, 2021 1:10 AM |
R50 Its appearance was the most appetizing part.
