Injured Concertgoer Sues Travis Scott & Live Nation Over “Predictable” Astroworld Tragedy

In a petition filed Saturday in Harris County District Court, Astroworld attendee Manuel Souza sued Scott himself, as well as organizer ScoreMore and concert giant Live Nation, over the Friday night incident, which left eight dead and dozens more injured.

"Predictable" or "reasonably foreseeable" is a standard by which liability for negligence is determined.

by Anonymousreply 6November 8, 2021 6:10 PM

Fugly Travis is only worth 60m so he is gonna be bankrupt by these claims. Kylie will have to lend his broke ass some of her 900m.

by Anonymousreply 8November 8, 2021 6:35 PM

It is not the norm for other performers to see unconscious or dead bodies at their shows. That should have been a CLUE to Scott.

Ideally he would never perform again but we will likely not be that fortunate.

McDonalds and Fortnight should drop him. Today.

Insurance only covers so much. The defendants better have some huge reinsurance policies. Otherwise they're going to get their own deep pockets emptied. Scott's history of inciting violence at his concerts is easy pickings.

by Anonymousreply 13November 8, 2021 6:48 PM

Kylie will end up bankrolling him through this. She's worth 900m to his 60m.

by Anonymousreply 14November 8, 2021 6:51 PM

Also, I don't think you can insure against gross negligence or willful misconduct.

by Anonymousreply 15November 8, 2021 6:52 PM

Exactly, R13, and Drake has also been named as a defendant.

Both Houston LE and LN are claiming they wanted the show stopped.

The city signed off on security plans and taxpayers are likely to take a hit for liability too.

But, the deep pockets will be Scott and to a lesser extent, Drake. Scott's history and convictions and the issues that day as early as 2pm re: crowd control and security, the numerous videos from that night, the fact that he could see emergency vehicles in the crowd and the performance continued for 40 more minutes likely cost lives.

The Houston Police Chief warned Scott before the concert.

by Anonymousreply 24November 8, 2021 11:56 PM

From NYT:

HOUSTON — Concert organizers and Houston city officials knew that the crowd at a music festival planned by Travis Scott, a favorite local rapper turned megastar, could be difficult to control. That’s what happened two years earlier, the last time Mr. Scott held his Astroworld Festival.

For months, they braced themselves, adding dozens more officers from the Houston Police Department and more private security hired by Live Nation, the concert organizer.

The Houston police chief, who knows Mr. Scott personally and felt the musician had been trying to do good for his hometown, said that he visited Mr. Scott in his trailer before his show on Friday and conveyed concerns about the energy in the crowd, according to a person with knowledge of the chief’s account.

by Anonymousreply 25November 8, 2021 11:57 PM

Sounds like it was reasonably foreseeable.

by Anonymousreply 27November 9, 2021 12:15 AM

Hope the chief has it in writing, the taxpayers of Houston should not be on the hook for this.

by Anonymousreply 28November 9, 2021 1:16 AM

If anyone has video of this moment it will be key for the case. Reportedly someone on his team approached Scott and spoke to him re: the crowd. Scott then said something to the effect, "you know you came here to rage, make the ground shake." This is while people in his line of vision were dying and while emergency vehicles and responders were struggling to reach those in need of help. Then Scott continued the show.

Obviously someone should have cut his mic and possibly the stage lights and brought the lights up on the crowd. There are videos all over SM of other performers engaging in crowd safety talk, stopping shows as needed, telling crowd to chill, to back up, etc. Scott, in the midst of a mass casualty event, upon notification, did the opposite and FURTHER incited the crowd, allegedly.

[quote] What the Hell was a 9 year old doing being at something like this???

For r34 and everyone else asking this: Besides their parents not being as active in their child's life as they should have been... The children were there because apparently Travis Scott advertised his concert on Fortnight or one of those games that young kids usually play because their parents don't want to be bothered with actually raising them. Apparently, he's notorious for encouraging his fans to break through the gates and force their way into the venue if they couldn't get tickets and that's allegedly what he did when advertising this. It's not out of the realm of possibility that the parents (if they looked the event up and didn't just hand over their CC) thought that this was just some rap carnival and not an event that should only be attended by adults.

by Anonymousreply 44November 10, 2021 1:56 AM

The 9-year old victim's dad is a huge fan of Travis Scott, so he went to the show and took his kid, too. IOW, this wasn't a case of an unsupervised kid or uncaring parents, it was a case of stupid parents deciding it'd be fine to take a child into a dangerous* adult situation.

* Drugs, violence, no reserved seating, everyone else in the mob being bigger/taller/older/stronger than a child.

by Anonymousreply 45November 10, 2021 3:15 AM

If this event was so "Predictable", then why did they believe it was safe to attend the event?

by Anonymousreply 46November 10, 2021 3:24 AM

Travis advertised this event as safe for ages 2 and over, that's why all these kids went.

by Anonymousreply 47November 10, 2021 3:29 AM

[QUOTE] Scott then said something to the effect, "you know you came here to rage, make the ground shake."

One of the main reasons why Travis dumped his manager Irving Azoff was because Irving was prioritising Harry Styles' career over his.

Last month, Harry played five sold out nights at Madison Square Gardens and each time the entire building and the building next door shook from all the fans dancing and jumping up and down. Even back in the nosebleeds fans were doing this. There were articles about it. Travis got jealous and wanted the same thing, although it's a lot harder to achieve in a field.

But Harry talks to the crowd throughout his concerts - actually banters to and fro and has whole conversations with them - so would spot a surge situation straight away and stop the show. He's stopped it when individual fans have fainted and asked security to help them.

by Anonymousreply 48November 10, 2021 6:32 AM

I saw video of some dude dancing about with a toddler on his shoulders at this show. No apparent ear protection for baby. Don't think these people were injured but wtf, why take wee kids to a night time mayhem concert?

Also saw video of TS burbling into his autotuned microphone by himself (no band playing) while sick/ODing/injured people were being carried out. What a turd.

by Anonymousreply 49November 10, 2021 8:33 AM

Play ghetto music, win stupid prizes.

by Anonymousreply 50November 10, 2021 1:12 PM

He did stop a few times, briefly and he did acknowledge people in the crowd asking/chanting for him to stop the show. I think it was a combo of his ego, his being inured to injuries at his shows in a way other performers try to avoid, and the Apple stream, did not want to interrupt the flow of the broadcase/show is my guess, esp with Drake coming out at the end.

The Chester Bennington clip where he coaches the audience on picking up people who fall was quite different in orientation. He even had a little call and response - what do we do? PICK THEM UP! That creates a very different and obviously safer environment. There are clips of everyone from Adele to boybanders doing something similar in a focus on crowd safety during their shows.

That Scott went to Dave & Busters after is trippy, first of all, isn't that more for kids? And the declaration of a mass casualty event at the show had to be relayed to him after (as it seemed to be during when his team approached and spoke with him) so WTAF was going to play video games in public about? No sense of appearances even or just did not GAF. Surely he can game on a tour bus, in a hotel or with family, he is from Houston after all.

by Anonymousreply 51November 10, 2021 6:47 PM

Drake purportedly "hosted" the afterparty at Dave & Busters. No way were they not told 8 people had died at the show. Guess that news did not dent their appetite for wings and gaming

“This tragedy will affect Travis’ image and brand deals moving forward,” a hip-hop marketing expert tells Billboard. “Over the last couple of years, Travis Scott has become one of music’s biggest brand ambassadors by inking partnerships with Nike, Anheuser- Busch, McDonald’s, and General Mills, to name a few. We are already starting to see brands trying to distance themselves. Epic Games [Fortnite], with whom Travis had a partnership with a few years earlier, removed the games’ Travis Scott music emote — the feature that allows gamers avatars to dance to specific songs.”

Scott’s touring career is taking a hit too. On Monday, he canceled his upcoming headlining performance at Day N Vegas, and the festival promptly filled the spot with Post Malone. According to Variety, Scott also canceled a private performance in Saudi Arabia, which would have netted him $5.5 million, and thousands of fans have been petitioning AEG-owned promoter Goldenvoice to drop him from next April’s Coachella lineup.

-------

So from this it seems he's finished. What a money grubbing whore he is. All those deals with zero quality control. Dior AND Macdonald's? Harry Styles is his rival in terms of chart sales and global domination and he has ONE brand he reps despite numerous offers - Gucci.

Maybe that's why security guards were hired by text, with no ID and at the last minute. One person hired told his bosses about the fans storming the barricades and they just shrugged. Apparently, Scott didn't place too much importance on security. He wanted his fans to storm the barricades. He loves it.

Travis may not have known about the tragedy but it also shows the failure of his organization to provide proper communication. A Washington Post article said the event planners delivered the plans at the last minute and didn't provide proper communication, only gave cell numbers to the Fire Department. The cell phones did not work in this event; they usually have walkie-talkies which the Fire Department asked for but the Astroworld organizer didn't provide. The safety plans weren't even signed. How this event got pushed through is anyone's guess. This event should have been cancelled.

It screams shades of hideous Mamma Jenner, trying to make him more palatable to the public. I pray that people will now stop buying and watching Kardashian/Jenner. The blood of those 10 kids are on their hands.

Reese Puff Cereal had a limited edition of Travis Scott on the cover. This is how he appeals to kids. Some people are selling their used boxes for thousands of dollars.

I can't believe people on Twitter are defending this POS. He had pics of unconscious fans at his concert on his IG, calling them heroes. He has now deleted those pics.

by Anonymousreply 96November 13, 2021 7:43 AM

I thought festival seating had been banned since the 1979 Who concert disaster in Cincinnati.

by Anonymousreply 97November 13, 2021 8:21 AM

In what definition of the word were they "heros?" Victims, yeah, that fits.

That the police were recording the show on their phones like they were 15 yr olds, indifferent or unobservant re: people needing help is astonishing and beyond unprofessional. That the fire department had no means to communicate? And the claim that Scott did not know about the deaths until hours AFTER the show? None of this seems plausible. That he and "Drake" went to Dave & Busters for an "after party" is beyond lame. What are they going to get a tie in there too, to resonate with middle school fans that Scott is pitched too?

Garbage human beings.

by Anonymousreply 98November 13, 2021 2:28 PM

I think they need an independent investigation.

by Anonymousreply 99November 13, 2021 2:36 PM

Travis Scott is Houston's OJ Simpson.

by Anonymousreply 100November 14, 2021 2:03 AM

This is an astonishing article. Why on earth not is an excellent question.

[quote] Travis Scott's Astroworld event that night was not a sovereign entity, where emissaries negotiate a conclusion to a concert. It was an unfolding disaster on public property, where police and fire officials must necessarily have the power to step in and shut things down immediately to end the dying.

The police chief does not want an independent investigation, that would likely mean less control over the outcome.

The AA 10 yo died today. I guess marches will happen now?

by Anonymousreply 103November 15, 2021 3:11 AM

OMG, it's so sad and tragic. But he's no longer suffering. it was better that the 10 year old (they say nine year old?) dies because what kind of life would he have?

by Anonymousreply 104November 15, 2021 3:24 AM

Just saw that r103. Horrible. Only 9 years old and his life cut short.

Ezra Blount, the 9-year-old boy who was placed in a medically induced coma after being injured at Travis Scott's Astroworld Festival in Houston, died Sunday, Houston's Mayor Sylvester Turner confirmed in a tweet. He is the 10th, and youngest, person to die from injuries related to the concert.

by Anonymousreply 105November 15, 2021 3:42 AM

With the crowd surge like that, breaking barriers like a stampede, that wouldn't be tolerated in any other state. But it's Texas. For example, that would not be tolerated in California-- no baggage checks, no Covid vaccine confirmation. Texas seems very lenient when it comes to business and the Almighty Dollar. If they're carrying guns, no problem.

by Anonymousreply 106November 15, 2021 3:50 AM

Similar had happened elsewhere when TS was involved, he was convicted for inciting riot type behavior in IL and was it Arkansas?

[quote]"Ghetto music draws bad elements" How do you explain that most of the fans seen at his concerts have been white? There's a lot of college kids, notably the ones that died. It was interesting to see that there are not a lot of black fans in his concerts, mostly whites.

White people can be ghetto fool. You sound racist to assume only black people listen to ghetto music. It's about the music, it draws a certain criminal element, of ALL shades of skin color.

by Anonymousreply 109November 15, 2021 4:03 AM

The interview Travis Scott doesn't want anyone to see.

"I'm all about the blood." Interviewer asks who's blood? "Not mine, the fans, they're giving their bodies."

He wanted mayhem, rage and blood and he got it.

What I don’t understand is why he was marketed to kids? I don’t really follow him so I was unaware before this that he was involved in video games, McDonald’s etc... I mean WTF? No 9 yr old or 14 user should be listening to that crap, much less attending these concerts.

by Anonymousreply 111November 15, 2021 4:31 AM

He's one sick fuck for saying that. He sounds like like Trump in black face.

Here is Kylie's Halloween pic as she posed nude in blood. Like a disturbing premonition. The stupid girl left Travis during the night, it's only a matter of time before she dumps him. Stupid girl had to get herself pregnant with the 2nd child. He will be in her life forever as well as the 10 deaths. Hope this is the end of the Kardashians or will they survive this like the cockroaches they are.

R111, almost all modern music is marketed to young people, they have the most disposable cash and are the most willing to blow it on things like that. Been an industry mantra for the last 40 years.

Do you know anyone in their 50 that spends as much money and time as a teen or pre-teen on music like that?

by Anonymousreply 114November 15, 2021 4:36 AM

I will never go to a concert again where it's general admission. All shows should be ticketed and each person should have their own seat. There have been so many problems with these kinds of concerts. Imagine if there's a fire or an emergency. Plus the pandemic is still going, so being that close to people is not ideal. They are recipes for disaster.

by Anonymousreply 115November 15, 2021 4:36 AM

Most rappers make most of their money through endorsement deals and contracts outside of music.

Travis Scott had a line of clothes with Dior which they were about to ship out. Now it's been delayed and they will lose millions. . I don't know why Travis Scott started reaching out to kids but it seemed to happen around the time he hooked up with Kylie, could be Mamma Jenner's influence?

JayZ is one of the biggest investors in Live Nation which is being sued.

R114, I get what you’re saying, but this guy was marketed to young kids through McDonalds! How much spending money do 9-14 year olds have? The parents have some part in this tragedy.

by Anonymousreply 117November 15, 2021 4:49 AM

I think McDonald's needs to read their lyrics first before they partner with anyone.

by Anonymousreply 118November 15, 2021 4:52 AM

Spaz, kids aren't the only people in Macdonald's. Travis accepted any big brand deal he was offered, uncaring about who the brand is aimed at. He just wants the money.

Kylie has grotesque taste in men, as do Kim and Khloe.

R114, middle age ladies who are into boybands from yesteryear spends money on concerts and cruises.

Hip Hop performers have become more hedonistic, nihilistic and criminally dangerous than rock stars in their heyday of the 70s and 80s. Also, they have completed whored themselves out to big corporations.

by Anonymousreply 125November 16, 2021 1:29 AM

Wow, R110, good find. The fact that he is marketed heavily to elementary school aged kids by Fortnite, McDonalds and Reeses cereal makes his agenda beyond the pale.

If Nike eventually releases the Travis Scott shoe to the market, how are they going to promote it? As the ideal shoe to trample on people at festival concerts? That may not go over very well.

Travis is off his face on strong sedatives most of the time. That's why he gets the heavy lidded look.

Travis' days with Kylie are numbered. She is obsessed with Kim and has followed her in all things, even getting surgery to resemble her. Now Kim has dropped black lovers and is dating a white guy, Kylie will drop Travis and get with someone similar. Maybe NIall Horan so her third kid can have blue eyes.
