Oof...hope the Kun is fine.

Oh, mierda! ¡La cagué! ¡Tenía la intención de maldecir a Ramos, no a Kun!

This is football karma because Barça sold Messi, isn’t it....
Spurs-y of them!

He’s now expected to retire from football, as his condition has made continuing to play too dangerous.
Wonder how that affects his sex life? Vigourous fucking can’t be easy on a dodgy ticker.

Covid?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 15, 2021 5:33 PM |
R6 we haven’t had confirmation or denial of COVID-19 yet, though considering how many footballers are anti-vaccine and how much they travel for games it wouldn’t be at all shocking.

Is he gay?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 15, 2021 6:22 PM |
r7 any idea why so many footballers are anti-covid-vaccine?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 15, 2021 6:40 PM |
Apparently you do, R9..

The article at the link at R9 provides seems to be from a Trump/G0P supporting clickbait site. Just saying.

I have Afib which can result in frequent bouts of arrhythmia and breathing difficulties. Both those symptoms are also associated with covid, so it's important to have it properly diagnosed. (Even with Afib, I can still jog. And fuck. Just not at the same time.)

R8 doubtful considering he was married to one of Maradona's daughters and had at least one kid with her.0

The Argentina team showed their support before the Brazil match.

Agüero has announced his retirement, as expected. Don't fret, R13, we'll always have this moment.

Another top, fit sportsman with sudden heart problems. What's going on?? A sad end to a brilliant career.

The only person I could forgive playing for Man Shitty😔

Smart move. He gets to live. Ruben de la Red had a promising career be ahead of him at Real Madrid, but he had an event on the field. I was watching live -- terrifying. He started to convulse on camera -- his eyes were rolling to the back of his head. He had an undiagnosed cardiac condition and retired at 22 or so.
I was thinking to myself that there's no other professional sport known for on the field deaths. And I was just thinking of recent casualties like Antonio Puerta, Marc Vivien Foe and Dani Jarque I didn't realize until now there's a whole Wiki page devoted to the subject. The list goes on and on. Note that not all are on professional teams. Still so many.

R18, see the link at R20:
[quote] A study, commissioned by FIFA and carried out by Saarland University, named the FIFA Sudden Death Report (FIFA-SDR) was published in 2020.[7] The report recorded worldwide deaths attributed to Sudden cardiac arrest or other unexplained sudden death while playing (or shortly after playing) football *between 2014 and 2018*. There were 614 cases during the four-year period. In the majority of cases where an autopsy was carried out, the cause of death was Coronary Heart Disease.

Oh no, side effects

After Antonio Puerta died, I recall discussion that a lot of players are either expected by their clubs or they push themselves to play before fully healed. This requires injections of pain killers. There was speculation that overuse strains the heart. I can't remember detail since it was nearly 15 years ag. I have no idea if this is true.

According to Wikipedia, under “List of association footballers who died while playing”, in 2001-2020 there was an average of 4.2 deaths per year attributed to SCD or SUD, the vast majority being SCD. In contrast, in 2021, according to Real-Time News‘ list, there were 21 cases of SCD/SUD among FIFA players. In other words, instead of 4 SCD/SUD deaths per year (according to Wikipedia data), or 5 cases per year (calculated according to the BMJ) during 2001-2020, 21 players have died so far this year.

R12 so is it fake news? None of these deaths or situations actually occurred?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | December 17, 2021 11:27 PM |
R25 believe what you want, baby. Just be careful of the source, and don’t say no one pointed it out to you.
Personally, I would put this down to overscheduling of games and tournaments. Training at top-flight is very intense (there’s a reason most men can’t continue it beyond their mid-30s), and players across the League trained hard through every lockdown (stressful conditions). Then there’s the fact that FIFA and UEFA try to cram as many games into their tournaments as possible to maximise TV time (for revenue/advertising), without allowing much time for players to rest before or after return to their domestic Leagues.
Everyone assumes that due to footballers’ pay-grade and training quality, they all must be able to cope with the intensity, but that doesn’t always hold. Footballers are simply playing and training harder and more than they ever have in history, and the science/medical treatment hasn’t caught up.
