LaBeouf is around the same age as Hammer. Both were about 30, but playing 24. Hammer looked older than 30 and LaBeouf looked younger.

Regardless, I loved the performances and the film. But, knowing what we know now about Hammer, the movie just doesn't have the same bite.

Shia ruined his career. I think he's a very good-looking man and can be charming. But he is crazy as fuck. Unlike Christian Bale, Shia wasn't able to contain the crazy long enough to build a heavily acclaimed filmography.

Armie is handsome but there’s something clumsy about him. He’s extremely tall so he has the same awkwardness you see in Jason Segel, who’s really big too. When Hammer was dancing and running on the hills and through the streets, it was awkward. I don’t know how else to describe it.

Scott Eastwood has “all American looks” but his acting is so / so but then again, Armie isn’t all that great either.

Armie Hammer was perfectly cast. It’s why the movie works so well. It’s a shame they will never make a sequel now, since he is disgraced.

Luca gave precedence to superficial presentation, instead of focusing on depth of acting abilities and character development.

Shia LaBeouf is half Jewish and looks like it. Hammer bragged about being Jewish but he has some great great grandfather so a few percents of Jewish blood, and doesn't look Jewish at all. He looks more like a Nazi than Jew and he had to play a guy who is 100% Jewish.

I didn't like the size difference and age difference seemed even bigger since Chalamet looked younger and Hammer older then he is. It all seemed like a relationship between a young boy and an older pervo. With Shia it wouldn't have looked like that. Shia looked younger than Hammer, is of normal size and is way hotter. He has something, some soul, emotions, sex appeal.

And, ironically, he turned to be a much more normal guy than Hammer.

He's very cute. Has big green eyes and a nice body. He's not conventionally handsome though and he would not fit this role. This is what LeBeouf looked like around the time that they would have been casting the film, circa 2015. He has changed quite dramatically since then, it's fair to say.

He was sexy, charismatic and can be a great actor when given the opportunity. Also, unlike Hammer, he would have looked the right age and build for the part. I've read elsewhere that they couldn't get insurance for LeBeouf, which is why he was dropped from the film.

What a film that could have been.
