Marcia Brady's Vision Of An Oder Man (circa 1970)
In the episode where Greg has a crush on his maff teacher, he asks Marica what women want in a man.
She replies:
women look for the rugged readiness of Steve McQueen, the well dressed style of Gene Berry, the romantic ways of Paul Newman, the innocence of Dustin Hoffman and the worldliness of Dean Martin.
What a sad time to be alive if that was the best of the lot. Who the hell is Gene Berry?
She concludes by saying: the number one thing a woman looks for in a man is a moustache.

Marcia was probably talking about Gene Barry. Usually played a dapper gentleman-type.
He also created the Broadway role of Georges in "La Cage aux Folles."

I agree with Marcia, a good porn mustache still works for me

Gene Barry starred in the films The Atomic City (1952) and The War of the Worlds (1953), but was most famous for starring in a string of TV shows: Bat Masterson (1958 - 61), Burke's Law (1963 -65), The Name of the Game (1968 - 71), and as the very first murderer in the Columbo pilot "Prescription: Murder" (1968).

Marcia had a thing about mutches. Unfortunately this was before Tom Selleck was a star, so she had posters of Gene Shalit above her bed.
All Jan had was Yogi Bear.

Celebrities are much better looking now. They might be worse actors and singers but they are at least goodlooking.

Gene Barry, for what it's worth, was relevant in 1970 because he had a TV show, The Name of the Game.

Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, and Dean Martin were quite fuckable men. That slut Marcia knew a thing or two.

Newman, Brando and McQueen were definitely outliers of their time which is why they stood out. Beefcake actors are far more common now and none of them stand out.

Marcia sure had a lot of types. I guess you could say that Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, and dreamy football captain Doug Simpson all fit into one category of the all-American blond and blue-eyed type; but then Gene Barry and Davy Jones and Desi Arnaz Jr. were all brunets (as was her dentist), and none of them look anything alike. And none of them had mustaches.

Timothee is no different than all the other homely long-haired twinks of the 1970s. He seems to be a throwback to that.

I think most actors from the 60s and 70s were kinda ugly. The fashion then was ugly too and all the long hair and beards didn't help either. But filmmakers were going more for realism then not aspiration. Old Hollywood seemed to prefer plain-looking everyman types like Bogart or Stewart though hunks like Brando, Hudson, Newman and Tab Hunter were around, I don't think that was the standard. I do agree that as a whole, actors since the 1980s have more consistently better-looking almost to the point that they're unrelatable. Timothee is not a sex symbol, no matter what the deluded fangirls or his PR says.

R16 — hot picture! Steve McQueen was a gorgeous guy. All-American guy with what seemed like a warm personality. He was amazing in ‘The Cincinnati Kid’. Totally my type.

Where is Poitier, Belafonte and Greg Morris in this, Marcia, you racist whore.
Even Alice used to pearl-dive in Miss Hattie McDaniel's lagoon once in a while.
