On the Part 31 thread, R270 asks whether that thread is really paywalled and says it's "ridiculous" after only 269 posts.
I'm a non-subscriber and I see at the bottom of Part 31 a blue banner that says: "Only subscribers can post to this thread. Click Here to update your subscription information." I assume that subscribers like R270 don't see that banner.
As for why threads get paywalled when they're nowhere near being full, I think it's DL's way of "encouraging" people to subscribe, or else they won't be able to post on popular threads.

by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 20, 2021 6:03 AM |
R16, she reminds me of those huge red animated mouths 👄 that dance around on-screen at the movie theater before Coming Attractions. Which used to be highly disconcerting. But I like her energy.

Juanita looks like she uses a very subtle perfecting filter.
Personally, I like her.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 20, 2021 1:50 PM |
Juanita Tolliver deserves her own thread!
I love her interchanges with Ari which always have a sexual subtext to them. Where does she live, what city? Is she married, partnered? That white room she zooms from looks like a mid-century banquet hall. I'm yearning for her to appear in the TV studio to get a fuller picture of her.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 20, 2021 1:55 PM |
Love Juanita. She is striking and smart. Her hair and makeup is always fantastic and every other female talking head could take note, especially Joy Reid. As noted above, she gives great facial expressions when she is in her talking head box just listening to the other panelists.
She's really into yoga on her Instagram. Check out this move. She's got it ALL going on.

by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 20, 2021 6:05 PM |
So glad to see the gorgeous Juanita Tolliver getting some much-deserved DL attention. She is so smart and always adds to the discussion; Ms. Tolliver is no "talking head" parroting worn-out cliches and that day's talking points. Instead we are presented with refreshingly original political analysis.
And yes, she and Ari share amazing chemistry.

by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 21, 2021 5:43 PM |
R40, isn't that an old Britishism? I don't see "veg" in America -- just "veggie", which really bugs me for some reason.
The last time I saw "Cheeseburger, or sub Veggie Patty" on a menu, I ordered it but said "with the vegetable patty, please". The waitress (who seemed to speak English fine) replied "Excuse me?". So I pointed to the menu item while repeating my request slowly and a little louder through my mask and she said "Oh! You mean the Veggie Patty?". At which point, I just said "Yes, please" while glaring (politely, I hope).

The Ari Melber fans here will appreciate the advice column at the link:
[quote] Tell [your co-worker] to check out the MSNBC talk show host Ari Melber. He is a straight-up hip-hop head. In defiance of stereotypes, Melber, a 40-year-old white guy, genuinely loves the genre and shines a light on it on a regular basis, often hosting hip-hop artists on his show. Perhaps letting your co-worker know that all kinds of people like hip-hop will get him to listen a little more closely.
There are 415(!) comments, which I haven't bothered to read since I don't like either hip-hop or Melber, but obviously some people take an interest in one and/or the other.

Mike Fanone is on Morning Joe right now. Love that guy. So straightforward, down to earth, selfless, edgy and of course on a superficial level masculine and hot as fuck. Wish I could see more of the tatts.
I dont know how he remains normal after being almost killed by Trumpetiers like that. I would be bitter as hell and want revenge. And to ad insult to injury, all the Republican congressmen he tired to talk to basically showed him the door. Disgraceful.

It is worth repeating, but Jose Diaz-Balart needs to go. I understand the "diversity" play going on at MSNBC these days, but can't we get a different "hard news from a Latin angle" person to deliver it?
Today, I lasted all of 30 seconds with him on the TV as I turned it on and tried to get Morning Joe to play off the DVR. He was signing off of an interview then segued into a quick tease about Queen Elizabeth. Mind you, Jose is the man who can easily breeze through Hispanic and Latin names and accents, as well as vociferously debate issues concerning his audience, BUT HE CLEARLY CAN'T COMPREHEND something as bland, white-as-Wonder-bread and privileged as the British Monarch and sounds like an idiot trying to deal with it.
"Coming up, Queen Elizabeth back to work after her ahhh, doctors, ordered her to rest. She is now, erm, rested, and back to work."

It is odd that The Gap names a pant style after a color and then offers other colors. Khaki is the color of dust in South Asian.
The Gap "Khakis" are a twill chino that comes in non-khakis colors.
What Kornacki wears are Palomino Brown twill chinos that are called Khakis by Gap.
I find the Lands End article informative.

I would agree, but I don't see many if any on what I watch. Rachel and Nichol seem relatively good about reading quotes rather than playing clips. Who's the most guilty? Morning Joe?

For Halloween I think the MSNBC anchors should dress up like the Fox Anchors. Whoever they're up against in their respective time slots. Chris Hayes could wear a bowtie and with a hangdog dumb expression on his face the whole time and be Tucker Carlson, Rachel could wear a Sean Hannity-like wig and throw a football, but Lawrence in a blond wig as Laura Ingraham.

Maddow told an absolute whopper last night. She did a long bit about the USPS suspending service to Australia and made a bit about President Biden not being able to send a Thank-you note after the G-20. At no point did she say that service was suspended due to the enormous spike in COVID cases in Australia during the month of October. Also, diplomatic mail is not suspended; so, President Biden could send a Thank-You note. This really is beneath her.

Mika needs to stop already, going on a rant non stop about how you should never point a gun at anyone even on a movie set. God, she is dim. It's a freaking western movie with gun fights. Baldwin was no horsing around apparently he was practicing the move before the shot. (no pun intended) What is us supposed to do pull out a light saber? Trying to shift the blame away from the dumb girl who handed him the gun?
Face it, Joe and Mika, it's not Baldwins fault, it was some stupid pee on. We know you want to riff on Hollywood, but it's just not the case. Actors are not responsible for the props they are given. Everyone heard the guy call out COLD gun. If only you were so on point when you were licking the boots of Trump over Hillary until you had your little spat and turned on him.
Sorry but that stupid 24 year old girl should go to jail if it was her fault. Any doubt if it was a young guy there would be a question? Plus she said she was very familiar with guns all her life.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | October 28, 2021 11:35 AM |
Isn't the question why were there live rounds on set at all - and who loaded the gun - was it prop girl? I thought there was an older veteran arms guy who had been cited in the past.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | October 28, 2021 11:48 AM |
Yes, even her legal experts were telling Mika that but she's trying to shift the narrative away from the stupid 24 year old and black Baldwin. Even her own TV experts said on set is the one place in America where it's ok to point a gun at someone. It's make believe not reality. The actor is not expected to know how to handle or firearm, it's suppose to be a prop. They are supposed to relying on the experts on set.
But Mika is as dim as that 24 year old bimbo. She just doesn't understand how a young woman could make a mistake like that and it not be the fault of a famous actor instead. " I just don't understand, explain that to me again, how is the actor not be responsible..." Because he was told it was a cold gun Mika, get it through your head, dozens of witnesses.

I'm sure she reminds Mika of her own daughters, so she's trying to deflect from the fact that this GIRL was unqualified, unprofessional, negligent, and RESPONSIBLE for the cinematographer's death.
Someone needs to be perfectly blunt with Mika, and call her out for whitewashing this girl's role in the death of the cinematographer.

I miss Katy Tur. I was home watching MSNBC when the insurrection happened and she and I said in unison, Oh My God when the camera showed the woman who was shot and later died, taken out on a stretcher and there was blood everywhere. Chuck Todd was on with her and droning on about nothing important and she couldn't get his attention. Finally she said loudly that they just took out a woman who appeared to have devastating injuries. That shut him up.

Yes, but when you are on a play gun fight on a set you still have to point your gun at someone, for that shot, it's a old western for fucks sake. It's ridiculous for Mika to not get that. She knows better, what she is really trying to do is set up a straw man argument to take the spot light off the real person responsible, a 24 year old woman who was not qualified or cared enough to do her job resulting in deadly consequences.
Know your worth, demand adult pay for adult jobs but if you fuck up, revert to just an innocent girl in circumstances beyond your control. In Mika's world you really can have it both ways.

R227 Black women’s hair issues is a whole topic but basically their scalps don’t make oil which makes their hair brittle and dry and prone to breaking off, which is exacerbated by the chemical straighteners some of them use and the pulled-too-tight braids and weaves they wear. Joy Reid’s natural hairline is exhibit A of this.
by Anonymous | reply 231 | October 31, 2021 11:44 PM |
The scalp makes oil, but by the nature of the hair, the oil doesn't travel down the shaft like it does for straight hair. The hair grows, like for other ethnicities, six inches per year. And of course, there are some people who grow a little more or a little less than. Just adding onto r231 response.

Khaki Kornacki is already working the 'Big Board' and it's only 9:06am! He's got about 10 hours to go and I hope he can keep up the pace. I wonder if there might be a wardrobe change in the works. I live in VA (South of C'ville) so I hope Terry takes the election home for the Dem's.

I am a bitter old bitch with a long memory so I always change to CNN when Claire McCaskill comes on.
[quote]Around cultural issues, the Republican Party, I think, very adroitly adopted cultural issues as part of their main theme. Whether you’re talking guns or issues surrounding the right to abortion in this country or things like gay marriage and the right for transsexuals and other people who we as a party have tried to look after and make sure that they’re treated fairly.
As we circle those issues, we’ve left some voters behind, and Republicans dove in with a vengeance and grabbed those voters. You’ve seen this shift. You see it in the South. I see it in the rural areas of my state. So we’ve gotta get back to the meat-and-potatoes issues. We’ve gotta get back to the issues where we are taking care of their families, and we’ve gotta stop acting like we’re smarter than everybody else. Because we’re not.

I hope McAuliffe wins tonight, too. But I change the channel when he comes on with his Clintonesque bullshit, too.
If I thought this opinion was a reasonable one, I would like not preceded it with "I am a bitter old bitch." Perhaps I should have remembered the Dear Readers here and realized that many would take that description as a claim to infallibility. Please pardon me. I ate a lot of edibles to prepare for this.

Nicole stated that the infighting within the Dems is what is going to give the Repugs the advantage and that Biden's 43% approval rating is related to the Dems inhouse catfight. Joy kept saying you have to fight, fight, fight and Nicole responded that public fighting within the party is dangerous. Joy and her racist bullshit is an embarrassment to MSNBC and she represents exactly why independents are now turning against the Dems.

Almost as bad as having bitch Barbara Corcoran on to talk about the real estate market. She should be barred from the media & profession, after she was everywhere in 2007 poo-pooing the notion of a bubble, offering financial advice to buy as much home as you can possibly get away with. Another trademark Rachelism is showing a clip of someone in the news saying something controversial or objectionable. And the camera cuts back to her, and then she repeats what that person said. At least twice. Usually in a "funny" voice or at the top of her vocal register.

She also has an obsession with people who have unusual names. She will say their names in a weird voice, as if she's mocking their names. With Rachel and Brian both leaving their nightly gigs, I imagine that Chris Hayes and Ari Melber will seize the opportunity ("I'm MSNBC's star anchor now!") to demand more air time and more money. And I imagine that the network will say no to both of them and tell them to stay in their current slots at their current pay. This tells me that something is seriously wrong with the leadership at MSNBC. Meaning: Rashida Jones.
Brian and Rachel are the leading talent at the network. She lost Brian, and she almost lost Rachel. She also lost Kasie Hunt, who was a young up-and-comer.
The woman clearly doesn't know what the fuck she's doing.
If this many people want to jump ship, it really doesn't bode well for the network.

I wonder if Brian knows something we don't?
Like we're about to have an ELE (Extinction Level Event). It makes no sense for him to leave.

Ari needs the drop the Rap fanboy shit if he really wants to go prime time. It's immature to classic Jewish boy wants to be cool by hanging out with the black guys. It would be like Rachael going on and on every show about baseball or something tonally unrelated. There's lots of people who love baseball but I don't want a lesson on all the players every time I tune into the show to watch actual news. Do it on your own time,
if I don't like baseball or Rap, harping on it at the end of even of every show and throwing in baseball terminology or history is not going to make me a fan. If anything it makes me want to flip the channel.

If I were Smirky Lemire I'd be a little pissed right now, giving up an established reputable reporting position to host WTE, and to serve as a prop on Morning Joe. I saw an opening segment last week where Mika just dogged him, critiquing his on air performance, and literally telling him he needs to grow a backbone. He just took it, with a sheepish smirk. Fuck that.

Working with married couples in the same office is the worst, especially if they hold the power positions. It's not like you can honestly complain about one without the other being a part of the equation. Oh sure," open door" Boomer BS line but, in in reality, one or the other will be offended and eventually lead to you being fired. Plus they don't want to share power because they are already King and Queen, why would they let anyone be equal to that? Maybe if you are lucky they will use you as the court jester. Hi Lemire!

"People" like Joy Reid? You mean people of color? Which is REALLY what gets in your craw, right? You're one of the sickening white homos whose own racism blinds himself to the fact that he, too, is in a group of highly marginalized, discriminated-against people. People like you forgive white celebs at the drop of a hat who've been caught saying homophobic things, but black celebs who've allegedly done the same thing continue to draw your ire even after they've publicly made amends or if the allegations have never even fully been proven. If all the Joy fanboys care about is the color of her skin, then Zerlina Maxwell is head and shoulders better than Joy, as is Tiffany Cross. Jonathan Capehart is fantastic. Any one of those anchors should have been given Joy's time slot. My dream anchor would be Maya Wiley if she was available.

* I meant "Q score." I think Q factor is some kind of physics or mathematical thing.
by Anonymous | reply 426 | November 12, 2021 6:15 AM |
I have to add that the Morning Joe format was what drew me in from the very beginning.
I loved the round table discussion, because it was so lively and fun. Joe was a total nutcase back then (he still is, but he used to be much worse), and Mika was a total doormat. They used to be very hostile to each other, and he would be.... I would almost say abusive, to her. Willie would not dare get in the middle of their fights.
Joe attracted the best guests from the very beginning. Between he and Mika, they were able to attract MARQUEE names from the Washington political scene. It was like must-see tv.
Another fun aspect was that because it was the 2007-2008 election cycle, they would go to New Hampshire, and Iowa, and other Primary Election sites, then on to the Convention sites, and they would occupy bars and restaurants, and have a live audience. It was amazing.
There was such a buzz and an energy surrounding the show.
Then came the election and Inauguration, and I'll always remember how excited I was watching Morning Joe on Inauguration Day 2009, and Joe and Mika were so excited, and all the guests were excited, and they showed the people running to get a spot in the viewing area, then the morning church service, and meeting at the White House, and the motorcade to the capital, and the introductions of all the former Presidents, the swearing-in, and finally the George W. Bush send off.
Those were some good times.
So yeah, I'd be very sad to see Morning Joe move to evenings, if it ever happened.
I don't think it would be the same, particularly because a lot of his big name guests all seem to be morning people.

Did you even really listen to what Joy said. Her apology?
She handled it poorly, no doubt about that, but what she said was that she did not recognize the person who wrote those posts. Probably because she is not the same person who wrote those posts. For those of you who write, have you looked at your past writing and wondered how you could have written such mess.
I just wish that some of you were just honest why you don't like Joy. If you say you don't like her because she was a homophobe, I can respect. But I can't respect someone who says she is a homophobe. Because she isn't, not now. And no one can point to one thing that would back up any claim that she is a homophobe now.
And don't point to the Pete thing, because if Joy is homophobe for not liking Pete in the primaries, then Maddow and whole bunch of other people are homophobes.

She should actually register as a Republican because she sure acts like one. Or maybe she "evolved" because it was a good career move. She sure showed her true colors when Pete was running for president. Nonstop attacks on him that she did NOT do to ANY of the other candidate. Why hasn’t Joy ever admitted that she made up the “hacked blog” story and also that she lied to the FBI, Joy’s fan club member who is all over this thread disparaging white gay men? If she’s such an amazing person, why has she never come clean about that?
Not liking Joy Reid does not equal an act of racism.

Nicolle went back to The View for Whoopi's birthday. She rolled out a cart with cupcakes and potato chips. They ran out to stuff to say at the end when they are usually short on time.

Watching Neal Katyal now with Jason J. and wondering why we never talk about him? He is soooooooo adorably sexy, would be soooooo much fun in bed.

Katy Tur's an unprofessional bitch.

r456, I think Neal is hot as well. Every once in a while he’ll give you a peek at that hot hairy chest with some of the shirts he wears.

I thought Tiffany Cross was working on modulating her voice; she didn't sound as sharp last week, but the shrill is back tonight. Our poor eardrums.
More red wine, please.

I agree that Costa is handsome.
Initially when he lost the weight, I thought his head proportionately looked too big for his body.
But something changed somewhere since then and now I think he looks really good.

It can be frustrating at times, along with his insistence on calling everyone by their title (Senator Klobuchar, Congresswoman Waters, etc.).
by Anonymous | reply 483 | November 14, 2021 10:50 PM |
He addresses people by their title, as he is really pissed that BLACK professionals ALWAYS get addressed by their first name. Obama is the only exception. The unintentional calling black men boy.

It's highly understandable as a homophobe like myself why Joy would come at him a little harder than Rachel, using the race card always works when you have nothing better to hid your homophobia behind. Although there are time when I have been more blunt and used the F=A=G term in public. - Joy Reid

R438, Do you have a selective memory or are you new around here? Rachel WAS slammed for how she treated Pete. She really went after him for coming out so late in life because, as she reminded everyone ad nauseam, she came out while still in college. She thought he wasn't authentic and it showed. She really looked down on him and treated him like trash.
When it comes to gay men, Joy and Rachel are birds of a feather.

by Anonymous | reply 507 | November 16, 2021 1:48 PM |
R505, Exactly! She wasn't the only Rhodes Scholar in town.
She was so smug about the whole coming thing. She thought she was better than him because she came out at an earlier age than he did. But, it's much easier for a woman to come out than a man and coming out is a personal decision anyway. He handled her questions well, but her pettiness very uncomfortable.
Maybe, like Pete, she always dreamed of running for office but didn't have the courage he did to actually do it. Still a great achievement, but all she'll ever be is a TV pundit while he's part of a successful Presidential cabinet who made history.
by Anonymous | reply 508 | November 16, 2021 2:17 PM |

Looking at that old Rachel-Pete interview again, I'm not seeing the hostility or discomfort that some others have . . .
by Anonymous | reply 511 | November 16, 2021 2:43 PM |
No, not a lovefest R510, but she was respectful and it was a somewhat dry interview. She let him speak and only tried to interrupt twice. When he starts talking about how infrastructure will help brown and black people, you can see her tense up a bit, like he has no right to talk about those issues and she wants to challenge him, but she held back.
Not the friendliest of interviews, but not hostile, either. Just a regular interview.

It's just one or two deluded fanboys on DL still crying about they Beloved Presidential Candidate not getting the red carpet, r511. Rachel was easy on him considering what a hack he is.
by Anonymous | reply 513 | November 16, 2021 3:15 PM |

Nicole is really being rough on Chris 'Hindenburg' Christie with her very effective questioning. He's been doing the rounds peddling his book and hoping to get some press for his potential run for the 2024 presidential race. The suit he's worn in all of today's interviews seems a bit tight on him.
by Anonymous | reply 516 | November 16, 2021 9:38 PM |
R516 She's doing a great job of getting under his skin.
by Anonymous | reply 517 | November 16, 2021 9:53 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 518 | November 16, 2021 9:54 PM |
Nicolle Wallace is kicking Chris Christie's fat ass live on-air, and the Schmidts (Mike and Steve), will annihilate whatever remains of the fat fuck at their first opportunity.
by Anonymous | reply 519 | November 16, 2021 9:57 PM |
Nicole is so sick of Republicans that she has become one of the best at ripping lying Republican ass. Every MSNBC and CNN interviewer who is going to allow fat fuck Christie on their shows to peddle his book should use Nicole's interview as a Master Class in Take no Prisoners. Outstanding.
I'll also reluctantly give Mika credit. She gave fat fuck enough attack dog questions this morning to make him sweat through his nasty ass cheap suit.
So, credit and kudos to two fired up women who took this man down today. Nicole was far superior but again, Mika was chewing his Hindenburg ass.
by Anonymous | reply 520 | November 16, 2021 10:05 PM |
Christie had lap-band surgery back in 2013 (or thereabouts) and his weight did decline some but he was still large. There was a special on CNN where Dana Bash interviewed him and they were walking down some boardwalk (in NJ?). I swear he looked like a hot air balloon in slacks and should he pursue any kind of presidential run, his girth is sure to take center stage. He's trying to make some coin off his book but it's contents can't be any more than we all lived through over the past Five years with the Orange Skidmark!
