He's had an interesting career. He was allowed to play the lead in many big-budget films because he was so stunningly handome when he was younger, but he never had a genuine big hit when he was playing the lead.

He had a funny career when he was starting out as a movie star--he would go on massive benders, and would be interviewed by entertainment reporters while he was still hung over from them. They found him so disarmingly foul-mouthed, honest, unguarded, and generally sweet that he seemed a real breath of fresh air, and so they would depict him as he was but would also be very positive towards him. You can only get away with that kind of behavior for so long with the studios, though, and once the sex tape of him leaked, he had to pull way back and sober up and act more responsibly.

He seems content now to being a character actor who just happens to be very handsome like Christian Bale and Johnny Depp (though Depp has ruined his looks by partying too hard). Like Depp, he has had substance abuse problems, but unlike Depp (or Bale) he doesn't seem as bedeviled by dealing with externally directed rage.

My brother worked with him years ago before he went sober. His job was to actually "hang out" with him on set and keep him company as he got wasted at 10 in the morning. Said he was actually a really great guy if a bit of a mess.

I think his transformation into character is genius. He's REALLY good imo. Could go on to be one of the greats. I saw the remake of Fright Night and he was fabulous in it. And while Batman movies may be totally played out, he looks fucking intense (and unrecognizable) as the Penguin.

I have nothing but good will for Colin Farrell. He’s pretty damn close to my physical ideal, so I’ve seen pretty much everything he’s done, and I am genuinely impressed with how his skill has improved and his willingness to take risks. That and his obvious devotion to his family. He’s one of the good guys.

I see him as being in the same category as RDJ - a gorgeous, unusual and gregarious screw-up who managed to shake off the demons (at least partly) and keep going.
