DL fave Alok Vaid-Menon to educate Netflix about trans issues!

[quote]Another Netflix employee, who like other employees interviewed for this story asked not to be named for fear of reprisal, confirmed to The Times that the demonstration will follow a virtual event on Oct. 19 that will be open to all employees and will be hosted by gender-nonconforming writer and performance artist Alok Vaid-Menon to discuss the Chappelle special's impact on the trans community.

I'm sure Netflix workers will enjoy meeting our Alok!

My favorite Alok story, worth repeating:

Around the time Alok came onto the scene (2015? 2016?) I had to do teaching observations of grad students in my department (humanities). One of the classes I observed was held in an engineering building (classroom space at the university is at a premium and they schedule classes wherever they can).

Anyway, the kid teaching the class was a recent SLAC graduate and earnest enough. He was teaching a unit on "identity" and the day that I observed him, showed his class a few Alok videos.

To each his own ... but the funniest thing was when an engineering professor walked by, paused (the classroom door was open), and watched three seconds of the Alok video with a huge "WTF???" expression on his face before scurrying away to the safety of his engineering lecture.

Even I was a little bit embarrassed for the humanities in that moment.

Well, that should cement the support for Netflix.

We just had to watch diversity vids for work that were supposed to be about LGBTQQIAA+ (can we just add WTF to the end of that bullshit at this point?). Pretty much went there are some gay people but now let's talk about T and pronouns and how everyone loves to be called queer now! This has gone so far around the bend it's giving itself surprise anal at this point.
