The movie pretends the TV show never existed. It starts off with Miss Brooks arriving in town as a new teacher at Madison High School. But it does end with (SPOILER ALERT) Mr. Boynton proposing to Miss Books. Trivia note: The cast includes both Joseph Kearns and Gale Gordon, later the two Mr. Wilsons on "Dennis the Menace."

More recently, there's a trend to make a full-lenth movie from a sitcom, with an entirely new cast:

While scanning the list, it becomes abundantly clear that most movies turned into TV shows flop miserably. Very hard to recapture lightning in a bottle, especially with different actors years later in a different medium.

Not a direct version of the movie, but the drama Saturday Night Fever became the watered down sitcom Makin' It. David Naughton was no John Travolta but he did have a hit with the theme song. John Travolta's sister played David Naughton's mother.

In the 90s I went to that same disco in Brooklyn when it was, at that time, a gay bar. I was shocked at how small the bar and the dancefloor was. Hold me closer, tiny dancer indeed.

Gene Kelly, not Jack Lemmon, as already noted at R61. Jack Lemmon wasn't doing TV sitcoms in 1962.

"The King and I" (1956) was turned into TV's "Anna and the King" (1972).

Yul Brynner reprised his role as "King Mongkut," while Deborah Kerr's "Anna" was played by Samantha Eggar.

Hit movie to flop tv show

"Stir Crazy" with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor went to TV with Joe Guzaldo and Larry Riley.

Wasn't there another Richard Pryor late 70s comedy that got turned into a big flop starring Jimmie Walker? Can't think of it now.

R82, you are correct. I liked the underrated Exorcist tv show, but Gless as the mother of Geena Davis didn’t work.
