by Anonymousreply 46October 10, 2021 1:47 AM

[quote]Tammy: Movies-Debbie Reynolds and Sandra Dee. TV: Debbie Watson

Debbie Watson previously starred in a sitcom called "Karen," but I don't think that name had the same connotations more than 50 years ago as is does today.

Eve Arden/Eve Arden/Eve Arden - "Our Miss Brooks." Reverse order, however, to OP's guidelines: in this instance the project began as a radio show, was adapted to television, and then became a movie.

by Anonymousreply 62October 10, 2021 6:51 AM

"Down and Out in Beverly Hills"

- Richard Dreyfuss to Hector Elizondo

- Bette Midler to Anita Morris

- Nick Nolte to Tim Thomerson

by Anonymousreply 63October 10, 2021 7:04 AM

I’m too lazy to type out the names, but here’s the Ferris Bueller tv show.

Jennifer Aniston played the Jennifer Grey part, and then they were on Friends together.

[quote]Eve Arden/Eve Arden/Eve Arden - "Our Miss Brooks." Reverse order, however, to OP's guidelines: in this instance the project began as a radio show, was adapted to television, and then became a movie.

The movie pretends the TV show never existed. It starts off with Miss Brooks arriving in town as a new teacher at Madison High School. But it does end with (SPOILER ALERT) Mr. Boynton proposing to Miss Books. Trivia note: The cast includes both Joseph Kearns and Gale Gordon, later the two Mr. Wilsons on "Dennis the Menace."

by Anonymousreply 67October 10, 2021 7:15 AM

More recently, there's a trend to make a full-lenth movie from a sitcom, with an entirely new cast:

The Beverly Hillbillies

Car 54, Where Are You

The Addams Famly

The Flintstones

by Anonymousreply 68October 10, 2021 7:20 AM

R67 There was a gay couple on Dennis the Menace?

by Anonymousreply 69October 10, 2021 7:20 AM

R66, are you also R9?

by Anonymousreply 70October 10, 2021 7:22 AM

"Female Trouble"

Divine to Wendi Jo Sperber

Mink Stole to Kaleena Kiff

Edith Massey to Elaine Stritch

by Anonymousreply 71October 10, 2021 7:35 AM

There was a 2003 TV series planned based on the film "Fargo." Edie Falco was cast in the Frances McDormand role. It didn't get picked up, though, and what they had was subsequently released as a TV movie instead.

by Anonymousreply 72October 10, 2021 7:38 AM

R71 made that up. But I wish it had been real.

by Anonymousreply 73October 10, 2021 9:24 AM

"Going My Way"

- Bing Crosby to Jack Lemmon

- Barry Fitzgerald to Leo G. Carroll

by Anonymousreply 74October 10, 2021 9:49 AM

Harry and the Hendersons

John Lithgow / Bruce Davison

by Anonymousreply 75October 10, 2021 12:36 PM

BAGDAD CAFE (1987) -

CCH Pounder to Whoopi Goldberg; Marianne Sägebrecht to Jean Stapleton

by Anonymousreply 76October 10, 2021 3:56 PM

While scanning the list, it becomes abundantly clear that most movies turned into TV shows flop miserably. Very hard to recapture lightning in a bottle, especially with different actors years later in a different medium.

by Anonymousreply 77October 10, 2021 3:58 PM

FOUL PLAY (1978) -

Chevy Chase to Barry Bostwick; Goldie Hawn to Deborah Raffin

by Anonymousreply 78October 10, 2021 4:17 PM

Not a direct version of the movie, but the drama Saturday Night Fever became the watered down sitcom Makin' It. David Naughton was no John Travolta but he did have a hit with the theme song. John Travolta's sister played David Naughton's mother.

In the 90s I went to that same disco in Brooklyn when it was, at that time, a gay bar. I was shocked at how small the bar and the dancefloor was. Hold me closer, tiny dancer indeed.

by Anonymousreply 80October 10, 2021 5:06 PM

[quote]"Going My Way" / Bing Crosby to Jack Lemmon / Barry Fitzgerald to Leo G. Carroll

Gene Kelly, not Jack Lemmon, as already noted at R61. Jack Lemmon wasn't doing TV sitcoms in 1962.

by Anonymousreply 81October 10, 2021 5:22 PM

I’m sorry, Sharon Gless is not old enough to be a mother to Geena Davis.

by Anonymousreply 82October 10, 2021 5:39 PM

"The King and I" (1956) was turned into TV's "Anna and the King" (1972).

Yul Brynner reprised his role as "King Mongkut," while Deborah Kerr's "Anna" was played by Samantha Eggar.

by Anonymousreply 83October 10, 2021 9:25 PM

Hit movie to flop tv show

by Anonymousreply 84October 10, 2021 9:44 PM

"Stir Crazy" with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor went to TV with Joe Guzaldo and Larry Riley.

by Anonymousreply 85October 10, 2021 9:58 PM

Wasn't there another Richard Pryor late 70s comedy that got turned into a big flop starring Jimmie Walker? Can't think of it now.

by Anonymousreply 86October 11, 2021 1:56 AM

R82, you are correct. I liked the underrated Exorcist tv show, but Gless as the mother of Geena Davis didn’t work.

by Anonymousreply 87October 11, 2021 2:30 PM

R86 Yes. The follow-up sit-com with Walker was "Bustin' Loose."

by Anonymousreply 88October 11, 2021 8:58 PM

"Weird Science"

Anthony Michael Hall's character was played by John Asher. IIlan Mitchell-Smith's character was played by Michael Manasseri

by Anonymousreply 89October 11, 2021 11:47 PM

"Freebie and the Bean" (black comedy film to action comedy TV series):

James Caan and Alan Arkin changed to Tom Mason and Héctor Elizondo, respectively.
