Favorite candle scents?

Now that we are entering fall, I love "hearth" and "Birchwood pine" from NEST.

Also generally enjoy "baies" from Diptyque but that's really pricey.

Anyone else?

by Anonymousreply 123December 24, 2022 5:53 AM

Your lungs are full of soot.

by Anonymousreply 1October 4, 2021 7:37 PM

I like any combination of spicy/woodsy and honey scent, without vanilla.

by Anonymousreply 2October 4, 2021 7:41 PM

Witches Brew from Yankee Candle. It's a subtle patchouli smell that only comes out in the fall.

by Anonymousreply 3October 4, 2021 7:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 4October 4, 2021 7:43 PM

Mrs. Meyers' Acorn Spice, bar none. It is amazing. I have a stockpile of them in my cabinet. They're usually only available in the fall, though they were available on their website all year last year. Anytime I see them in the store, I buy a couple. I am a certified addict. I've seen them around in the last month or two, but the stores that do/don't carry them seems to be inconsistent. I've seen them most often at Target and Fred Meyer (Kroger). Wal-Mart sometimes gets them too.

R3 "Witches' Brew" is one of my favorites as well. Well, it used to be. Yankee candles have no throw anymore, and haven't for years at this point, unfortunately.

Anyway, "Witches' Brew" is just Yankee's "Patchouli" dyed black, with a different label. I was disappointed, but also pleased when I discovered that. I could have it all year long, without buying extras in that seasonal scent!

In addition to the previously mentioned candle, I LOVE Archipelago Botanicals' "Stonehenge", which is similarly dark...

"Create an atmosphere of magic and mystery when you light our Stonehenge Glass Jar Candle. Inspired by the beautiful scenery and mystery behind Stonehenge, we created a fragrance blend of Smoked Cedar, Bergamot, and Amber."

And this one actually has throw.

by Anonymousreply 39October 5, 2021 9:00 PM

I don't do candles. My friend's house burned down years ago and ever since I stopped using them. Plus they're a hazard to my cat. I use soy wax melts and they're divine.

I like the "soy DOTS" brand on Amazon. They're high quality, not overpowering like Glade wax melts and they smell divine. My favourites are French lavender and roasted hazelnut espresso.

Ghost Stories from DW Candles

by Anonymousreply 41October 5, 2021 9:04 PM

My favorite is Diptyque's Oliban (Frankincense), which was a Christmas limited edition scent a number of years ago. I was able to find one or two additional candles on eBay or somewhere like that. Smells like church incense, a scent I hated when I actually used to go to church, but now it's nostalgic for me.

by Anonymousreply 42October 5, 2021 9:21 PM

by Anonymousreply 44October 5, 2021 9:32 PM

BBW/White Barn Pumpkin Patch (it has also been called Perfect Autumn Pumpkin, Heirloom Pumpkin, and Pumpkin Carving through the years.) I also use Wallflowers in that scent year-round. I had a friend move away, join the Army, and then come back to visit 4 years later, and he walked in and said "Your house still smells the same. I missed it." Then he moved away again and I haven't seen him in 5 years. But I hope one day I'll get to see him again so I'll keep my house smelling like Pumpkin Patch.

by Anonymousreply 59October 7, 2021 5:52 AM

A gay guy thing yes R59. We like our homes to smell good. Why should that be something only fraus are interested in?

by Anonymousreply 60October 7, 2021 11:42 AM

Except candles don't make your place smell good. They make it stink.

by Anonymousreply 61October 7, 2021 12:25 PM

R50 I like midsummer night too. It’s so manly.

by Anonymousreply 62October 12, 2021 5:34 AM

Whenever I smell strong candle scent in a home I assume they're trying to hide something. Like a body in the closet.

by Anonymousreply 63October 12, 2021 6:03 AM

BUMP.

I want to buy a nice Christmas/holiday scented candle. Which ones do you all like?

by Anonymousreply 64November 8, 2021 2:30 AM

Not necessarily a holiday scent but I like Yankee Candles’ Burning Frau, inspired by the Salem Witch Trials.

by Anonymousreply 65November 8, 2021 2:44 AM

I second the love for Acorn Spice by Meyer. I had it burning when a small group of friends came over and several of them commented on how much they liked it. I also love the hand soap and dish soap.

I'm not such a candle person but after seeing a you-tuber unboxing her favorite scent from Jo Malone I got curious. was looking for a holiday scent that would mimic the scent of a Christmas tree. after doing some research I cam across Yankee candle and decided to give them a try.

well I have to tell you the scent singing carols is like they stole a thousand x-mast tree souls and bottles it in that jar of deliciousness, it took me all the way back to when I was little and would impatiently wait for when we put the tree up.

by Anonymousreply 74November 8, 2021 7:05 AM

I do like a carefully chosen large Yankee Candle jar candle in my kitchen during the fall and winter months. I like the smell of their Christmas Cookies candle.

by Anonymousreply 75November 8, 2021 10:17 AM

For Thanksgiving I’m doing Cranberry from Aldi. (It smells great for $3.99) For Christmas season I’ll alternate between balsam fir, spiced gingerbread from White barn. I have a small Nest holiday candle I’ll save for Christmas morning.

by Anonymousreply 76November 8, 2021 10:30 AM

In high school I bought the Om candle from the Gap at the mall on the dl.

I kept it sequestered in a closet, unburned, and even brought it to college so I could smell it every once in a while.

I only burn candles when it's cold (October - March) and I don't bother with single or double wick candles as I can barely smell them.

A recent favorite is Hot Cider Donut from Harry Slatkin. It's a beautiful 4-wick candle that smells like a Krispy Kreme store. I hadn't purchased any candles from Bath & Body Works in years but made an exception for Under the Christmas Tree. I think it may be new this year? It smells like Christmas.

What is everyone's opinion on the cheap candles, do they smell the same as the $100 stuff? I don't want to spend the money on diptique, jo-malone or Dior.home if I can get a reasonably smelling one.

by Anonymousreply 92November 16, 2021 12:43 AM

Honey you don't need 100 candles but you don't need 1 dollar candles either. Even GLADE has soy candles that smell ok, nowadays. Go to any big store and look around and smell. You an get a quality candle for 10 bucks or under.

After burning my Yankee candle I'm not so impressed with it.

It doesn't burn al the way trough not even with a foil sleve and the smell is weak.

I loved it at first but now I am hankering for the €160 Dior

by Anonymousreply 98November 19, 2021 9:46 PM

I'm assuming you all have smelly pets and that's why you need scented candles.

Is there an international standard for throw? Is it a ten point rating scale? Is this federally regulated?

by Anonymousreply 99November 19, 2021 9:59 PM

My sister-in-law uses a Glade plug-in something, and it smells so strong all over the house it’s difficult to breathe. I guess that means it's throw-ful.

by Anonymousreply 100November 19, 2021 10:03 PM

R101 unless you have pets, I wouldn't worry about it. Candles don't spontaneously combust (or they SHOULDN'T). I fall asleep on the couch (or pass out from MY edibles, lol) all the time with candles burning. My friend ALWAYS has candles burning...even when she leaves the house (which even I don't do).

by Anonymousreply 109December 3, 2021 5:38 PM

My favorite candle is Cypres by Rigaud

“Introduced to the White House by Jacqueline Kennedy in 1960, this is a blend of lavender, the woody, crisp notes of pine needles, and the aroma of cedarwood. This fragrance is deceivingly mild--not at all overwhelming--but a lovely, elegant, fresh scent suitable for any room or occasion.”

I think 1 other person has mentioned Harry Slatkin.

His candles are great. Expensive, though. The jars they come in are worth the price.

Even in 5 payment installments 😛😛
