Harry was so beautiful in his heyday. At 93, he still looks good.

In his memoir, Harry talked about briefly living with Farley Granger. They got along well but he said Farley didn’t make any passes at him. Maybe he would’ve been receptive if Farley did.

Gosh Harry was very sexy and handsome back in the day. wasnt he?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 20, 2021 2:48 AM |
R10 Harry turned 94 this year. So did his good friend Sidney Poitier.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 20, 2021 3:35 AM |
Sidney and Harry. Now these men deserve the moniker of LEGEND. When the Kennedy Center Honors are being given to the likes of Lorne Michaels and LL Cool J, one really has to wonder.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 20, 2021 12:41 PM |
Sidney and Harry's friendship cooled many decades ago due to Harry's extreme egotism.

by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 20, 2021 2:11 PM |
I heard it from a old show business insider guy 20 years ago, R16. Harry is a well known diva who is very difficult. That means difficult to work with, to be friends with, to be related or married to kind of difficult. Harry is just not a nice guy.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 20, 2021 7:33 PM |
R17 I can believe that. Eartha Kitt didn’t have nice things to say about Harry.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 21, 2021 2:34 AM |
R15 Harry was kinda shady towards Sidney in his memoir. I got the impression he was jealous of Sidney’s talent.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 21, 2021 2:38 AM |
R18, what did Eartha have to say about Harry? Did they hook up?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 21, 2021 3:37 AM |
R20
M: Do you think you faced a lot of resentment just because you were married to a white man.
E: Oh yes, that caused the resentment. I was married to Bill McDonald in 1960. People would say ‘Why didn’t you marry a Black man?’ I would reply “because the white girls had them!” The men I wanted to be with, Sidney Poitier, Harry Belafonte, dated predominatly white women. I’m talking about the 50s. When Harry Belfonte picks me out of his bed in Philadelphia and said: ‘I don’t want you to take me seriously because no Black woman can do anything for me’. I could not help him to progress into where he was going to go. “A black woman would hold a black man back’, that’s what he told me. If I wanted to marry a black man there wasn’t one because the white girls had them.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 21, 2021 4:05 AM |
They all did things.
All kinds of things.
That's all I'm saying.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 21, 2021 4:29 AM |
I was surprised at what a hot body Danny Glover had in Beloved. There's a scene where he rises from the tub and he had a great ass. This was the late '90s so he was already in his 50s.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 21, 2021 4:57 AM |
Wow r20. Didn’t know that Harry was that ignorant. He has spent a huge chunk of his career being so pro-black. Even to the point where he jeopardized his career. But he said this shit to Eartha? I’m gobsmacked!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 21, 2021 1:10 PM |
Belafonte dumped his white wife of over 50 years to marry a much younger white woman about 10 years ago. The previous one was Julie Robinson, who everyone thought was black but was really white and Jewish (pic below). Of course their marriage had been up and down from the beginning...the divorce is why he sold their apt at 300 West End Ave after 50 years of living there.
[quote]Harry was kinda shady towards Sidney in his memoir.
He hardly mentioned Lena Horne with whom his career was intertwined - two albums together, a TV special, a Las Vegas show, and they lived in the same NYC building for years. But Lena was a Diva too and they had a love-hate relationship. Toward the end of her life she denied knowing him well. Belafonte didn't show up at her funeral.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 21, 2021 6:45 PM |
Those of you saying ANY Black man was difficult to work with in Old Hollywood need to consider the source and then consider the time period. Imagine how difficult the White people were for THEM to work with!
Yeah, Harry Belafonte & Sidney married White women, but they both had a lifetime of supporting civil rights.
Eartha was pretty fucked up. I don't believe her. She ended up whoring herself out to a lot of White men in the biz. Her lifestyle suggests she was the one that rejected Black men for her "career."
And for the record, Danny, Harry & Sidney look like they were good fucks and have big dicks. Just sayin 😂
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 21, 2021 7:20 PM |
It looks like Danny and Harry Belafonte are the inspiration of a lot of the youngsters "gay" antics on TikTok!!!
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 21, 2021 7:22 PM |
Bullshit, R25. Poitier didn't work with Harry Belafonte, they were friends. The friendship didn't last. Lena Horne worked with Harry Belafonte on stage and in a New York recording studio. They ended up hating each other. This is not "Hollywood," and these are BLACK stars.
As for movies, Harry Belafonte's movie career mostly ended in the 1950s. He was not popular in the business, and it was not only because he wasn't as good as actor as Sidney Poitier.

R28 Harry and Sidney did work together in Buck and the Preacher (1972).

Harry should’ve gotten with Dorothy Dandridge. They had great chemistry.

R31, they also worked together in the monstrosity called Uptown Saturday Night (1974), though not the sequels. That movie was almost 50 YEARS AGO.

Diahann Carroll took an interviewer to task for asking questions about her interracial relationships. I think that it was on BET. She mentioned that she had seen him interview her male contemporaries, but never about the white women that they dated and/or married. The shade she gave him was icy and elegant. She had a good point.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 23, 2021 4:56 PM |
R36 Diahann had a 9 year affair with Sidney. He treated her like shit from what I’ve read.

Harry Belafonte's got a looking head but a strange body.
He looks though he's got a broken pelvis or wearing a back brace in the scenes In the movie 'Island In The Sun'.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 24, 2021 1:32 AM |
They are considered to be elder statesmen in black Hollywood. You have to respect them for the inroads they helped to create. But man, what assholes they were.
And I would not doubt for a minute that Farley at least made a pass at Harry.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 24, 2021 2:18 AM |
R28 What the fuck are you talking about? Are you talking to me?
I never said anything about Harry and Sidney working together.
My point is about how awful they must have been treated working with openly racist White people. The DL people "believing" these Black men were "difficult" to work with need to consider that the people reporting this were racist - as racism was LEGAL at that time. There was no Civil Rights Act so I am sure they were openly hostile and resentful of having to work with Black actors.
Their marriage to White women is their business. I would never judge them for that. They can marry whoever the fuck they want and for whatever reason they want.
I believe Harry's career crashed and burned because he was a lot more political than Sidney. They both were political, but Harry wasn't taking the bullshit. He has always been very outspoken. He was a confidante of MLK. He stood up for his rights and they labeled him as "difficult to work with." Fuck Old Hollywood!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 2, 2021 7:12 PM |
Politics SAVED Harry Belafonte's reputation, R43. No one ever went after him and exposed what a difficult asshole he is because of his involvement with King and the civil rights movement. His career crashed and burned only because his style of singing went out of style.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 2, 2021 8:11 PM |

Miriam Makeba also had serious issues with Belafonte.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 3, 2021 5:11 PM |
R244 Bullshit! If you think Harry Belafonte was not dealing with racism everyday in the 40s 50s and 60s in Hollywood, you're outta your mind.
A lot of White people saw MLK as a troublemaker. They even labeled him a communist. MLK only reached the levels of respect in America after his death. He and Harry were fighting in the trenches together.
Let me be very clear, racism was not just something existing in the South. It was nationwide (as it is now). There was NO CIVIL RIGHTS ACT when Harry started his career. Try to comprehend that.
Belafonte was an amazing, singer and actor. He was the whole package. You can still find his old recordings on youtube performing with the greats! Black folks always have to be twice as talented to get half the opportunity. People labeling him as "difficult" are just racist assholes!
