The unsolved murders of Ron Goldman’s coworkers

Brett Ross Cantor (November 5, 1967[1] – July 30, 1993) was an American record label executive, concert promoter and nightclub owner. He was born in New York to Rhonda and Paul Cantor, who managed acts such as B. J. Thomas and Dionne Warwick. In the early 1970s, he and his family moved to the Los Angeles area. In the early 1990s, he served as an A&R executive for the Chrysalis Music Group.

After signing Rage Against the Machine, Cantor left Chrysalis to work briefly as an agent and then a promoter, putting together some of the largest concert and dance events in the city at that time.[2] He also entered the nightclub business, taking a 10% stake in Dragonfly, a club known at the time for its 1970s and hip hop theme nights. At that time he was involved romantically with actress Rose McGowan.[3]

Cantor was found dead in his Hollywood home on July 30, 1993; he had been stabbed repeatedly in the upper body. No suspect has ever been identified and the investigation remains open. His death was the subject of renewed interest a year later, when, during preliminary motions in the trial of O. J. Simpson for the killings of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman, Judge Lance Ito ruled that defense lawyers could have access to the investigatory file in the Cantor case. The defense had argued that the similarity of the three killings suggested the same person or persons had committed them.[4] It has also been argued in books on the case that Cantor knew both Goldman and Nicole, and thus they may have been killed over mutual involvement in possibly illegal business activities.[5][6]

Michael Nigg (April 28, 1969 – September 8, 1995)[1] was an aspiring actor who worked as a waiter at a Beverly Hills restaurant. He was shot and killed during an apparent robbery attempt in Hollywood.[2] The Los Angeles Police Department later arrested three suspects but soon released them for lack of evidence. No other suspects have ever been identified, and the killing remains unsolved.[3]

The case attracted some media coverage at the time, because Nigg had formerly worked at the Mezzaluna restaurant in Brentwood, where he had been a friend of Ronald Goldman's. Almost 15 months earlier, Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson had been found slain at her home near the restaurant, after he had gone there to return her mother's eyeglasses, which had been left behind at Mezzaluna. Simpson's ex-husband, former football star O. J. Simpson, had been charged with the murders, and his highly publicized trial had reached closing arguments.

Simpson, who has consistently professed his innocence in the Brown and Goldman killings, was acquitted of the murder charges almost a month after Nigg's death.[a] Alternative theories of the murders, supposedly shared by Simpson, have suggested they were related to drug trafficking in the Los Angeles area,[4] and that Nigg's was as well; Nigg apparently lived very well for a waiter,[5] and there were some allegations he, too, had been involved in the drug trade while working at the Mezzaluna branch in Colorado before.[6] Nigg and Goldman, it has also been noted, were not the only waiters at Mezzaluna to be the victims of criminal activity during the mid-1990s.[6]

by Anonymousreply 2September 17, 2021 6:45 PM

So O.J. murdered Cantor too?

by Anonymousreply 3September 17, 2021 6:46 PM

I believe OJ was stalking Nicole and was suspicious of every male friend( especially white) she had . He had the resources to get private investigators find addresses, you never know he’s a homicidal maniac. we know that already.

by Anonymousreply 4September 17, 2021 6:51 PM

OJ killed Nicole, then he killed Ron because he had the rotten luck of showing up at the wrong time. Those other killings are unrelated.

The '90s were a crazy time in LA.

R8

Do you think O.J. was framed?

I don’t know if he was necessarily framed. I think O.J. may know something about what happened, but I just don’t think he did it. I think it was more than one person, just because of the way she was killed. I don’t know how he could have just left that bloody scene — because it was bloody — and got back into his Bronco and not have it filled with blood. And then go back home and go in the front door, up the stairs to his bedroom … That carpet was snow white in his house. He should have blood all over him or bruises because Ron Goldman was definitely fighting for his life. He had defensive cuts on his shoes and on his hands.

O.J. only had that little cut on his finger. If [Goldman] was kicking to death, you would think that the killer would have gotten some bruises on his body. They showed us photos of O.J. with just his underwear just two days after, and he had no bruises or anything on his body.

by Anonymousreply 10September 17, 2021 7:16 PM

Both Nicole and Ron had defensive wounds. Ron in particular was in hand to hand combat and even kicked out at his killer. OJ had no injuries indicating he was in this kind of struggle. The cut on his finger wasn’t seen by anyone who interacted with him at the airport, on the airplane ride to Chicago, or when he immediately landed in Chicago. This includes people who got autographs from him, shook hands with him, and observed his hands. A broken glass & bloody towel were found in his hotel room & it was documented he asked for a bandage at the hotel.

by Anonymousreply 14September 17, 2021 7:25 PM

Only delusional black people think OJ is innocent . OJ rejected and resented black people before the trial . Virtually all his friends were white, and When the defense brought the jury to O’Jays house they replaced all his pictures with white people with Black people.

by Anonymousreply 15September 17, 2021 7:27 PM

Whoever killed Brett also killed Ron, and Nicole happened to walk-in on the murder and got killed herself. Then this killer put OJ's blood on the scene.

Anyone who watches the ACTUAL trial instead of slanted documentaries and TV shows would realize there was plenty of reasonable doubt in the case and the not guilty verdict was correct. The only reason people like yourselves talk about this case with such fervor and act like they saw OJ murder Nicole and Ron with own eyes is because of racism. It goes back to that racist “black brute” narrative. No one would give a shit if it had been OJ’s first wife who ended up dead. No one even gives a shit about Robert Blake who was similarly acquitted of murdering his scammer wife Bonnie Lee Bakley and then found liable for her murder in a civil trial.

Brent was killed by drug people, and the same drug people stalked and killed Ron and who they thought was Faye Resnick, a known coke-whore prostitute con-woman who'd tricked Nicole into letting her move in to her condo. But it was Nicole they killed, not Faye.

by Anonymousreply 24September 17, 2021 7:49 PM

HOLY SHIT. Cantor signed BOTH Jane's Addiction AND RATM.

by Anonymousreply 25September 17, 2021 7:54 PM

R22 you sound simple. A dude who is known as “The Mayor of Brentwood” and gets off the hook for beating his wife AND fleeing a crime scene was discriminated against? Sure. He wrote a book called “If I Did It”. It is basically his confession. Not to mention the blood evidence in his Bronco and in his home. Not every case is about racism. This was about celebrity. Robert Blake was never on the same level as OJ.

by Anonymousreply 26September 17, 2021 7:59 PM

The case was poorly handled by Clark and Darden AND the LAPD. Simpson was overcharged and Cochran was savvy as fuck.

R16 How the fuck did the killer get OJ's blood? I hope you're kidding. R26 is correct. There was blood everywhere and the goddam LAPD literally walked through it. Not that it matters but the Kardashians (Kris and the father) knew OJ did it b/c Kris and Nicole were BFFs. Kris knew what was up with OJ and Nicole.

by Anonymousreply 27September 17, 2021 8:04 PM

Also, OJ was the LEAST Black person in the universe

by Anonymousreply 28September 17, 2021 8:05 PM

I skimmed the article with the juror. It was interesting to me how the Furman perjury landed with so many of them. He was attached to a lot of the major evidence. As I interpreted her, they believed he lied which required them to discount his testimony in all things, creating reasonable doubt. I don't agree with the verdict, but in that context, I can understand the outcome.

R26 If I Did It was ghostwritten by Pablo Fenjves, a neighbor of Nicole’s who testified in the criminal trial for the prosecution. If you bothered to watch the actual trial you’d know 1.5 millimeters of OJ’s blood went missing from its vial and that Phillip Vannatter had the blood vials of OJ, Nicole, and Ron in his possession for several hours before booking them into evidence. There was also only 1/8th of one drop of blood ever found inside the Bronco, which is physically impossible if you just murdered two people and were covered in blood. John Meraz and William Blasini also encountered the Bronco at the lot where it had been impounded days after the murders. They both looked inside it for blood & testified they saw none. No blood found on OJ’s white carpeting or drains.

by Anonymousreply 36September 17, 2021 8:22 PM

What’s crazy is even before Ron and Nicole were murdered, black people made jokes about OJ being white. I was binge watching The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, and Will Smith made a couple of jokes at OJ’s expense. Arsenio Hall was another person in the community who ragged on him for it. Obviously the African American community was well aware of his snooty attitude towards them.

by Anonymousreply 37September 17, 2021 8:25 PM

R29 Fuhrman was also heard bragging about sleeping with Nicole to other LAPD officers before the murders and said on those infamous tapes where he uses the N word a million times that he was the key witness in the trial of the century and that if he goes down, so does the prosecution’s case.

The OJ “trial of the century” continues to cast strange shadows. Patti Goldman, Fred’s wife and Ron’s stepmom, made news when it was reported that her former husband, Marvin Glass, a headline-grabbing defendant in his own right, died of AIDS in Chicago May 16.

Glass was dubbed a “one-man crime wave” by lawyer-cum-bestselling novelist Scott Turow, who led the prosecution when Glass was on trial in the mid-’80s on racketeering charges. Once a high-rolling Chicago attorney, Glass was brought to trial on accusations that he was in cahoots with his drug-dealer clients, acting as a middleman for a $100-million marijuana-and-cocaine smuggling ring. Once his “business associates” got busted, Glass racked up huge legal fees defending them. One of the trial’s crowning moments occurred when Turow called a man to the stand who testified that Glass paid him $2,500 to shoot an ex-partner.

Confined to a wheelchair in 1985 after he was struck by a truck on a Florida highway, Glass was accompanied at the lengthy trial every day by the ever-loyal Patti, who divorced him after the trial. The couple had three children.

The last time OJ beat Nicole was 1989, 5 years before the murders. After the 1989 beating, OJ added an addendum to their prenuptial agreement which stated that if he struck Nicole again, she would‘ve been entitled to a settlement of more than 5 million dollars. Nicole herself told the police that he hadn’t hit her in 4 years when they responded to the 1993 911 call, in which he was mostly yelling about drugs and hookers being in the house.

by Anonymousreply 54September 18, 2021 7:07 PM

Whatever really happened that night at Bundy drive one dark and unsettling question has not only remained unanswered, but also largely unasked - was there a drugs connection to the murders?

Johnnie Cochran briefly broached a drugs angle at the trial when he asked about Nicole's neck would resembling the Colombian necktie, a form of killing favoured by drugs gangs that involves slitting the throat from ear to ear.

Aside from this, both sides retreated from any connections the drugs underworld may have had in the crime and the subject was not mentioned again. However, from a look at the various key players involved, and both OJ and victims’ social circles, it’s quite clear that the environment in which the crimes committed was steeped in drugs.

Perhaps it is the sheer scope and breadth of the drugs connections that made both sides reluctant to touch the subject; many unifying truths could be uncovered by delving too deep into that world. But with the murders occurring in a time and a place that was an epicentre of drugs related violence it would clearly be foolish to dismiss the avenue of investigation altogether.

It was well known in Hollywood circles that OJ Simpson and Nicole Brown were heavy cocaine users. But it appears for both of them their involvement in drugs had progressed beyond the kind of casual use you would except in the world they lived in.

Nicole, according to friends, was just days from entering rehab at the time of her death. Like her friend Faye Resnick, it appeared her drug use was becoming reckless and dangerous. On one occasion the pair even freebased coke whilst driving through LA.

OJ himself had been suspected or caught actually dealing drugs both before and after the murders. In 1975 he was the target of an FBI sting when he was suspected of dealing coke to NFL players. Simpson’s friend and confident Al Cowlings, who was in the White Bronco with OJ during the famous slow speed chase down a south LA highway, also used to work for Mafia drug kingpin Joey Ippolito.

Caught up in that 1975 drug sting was an associate of OJ's named Casimir Sucharski, who would later become one of a string of people to be brutally murdered around the same time as Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman.

Just three weeks after the murders at Bundy Drive, Sucharski and two others were slaughtered in Sucharski’s Florida home in what looked some kind of drug burn or hit. Whilst the connection to what happened at Bundy may be tenuous, what of the Ron Goldman’s friends Brett Cantor and Michael Nigg?

Cantor, a local nightclub entrepreneur, was a mutual friend of both Ron and Nicole. He was brutally stabbed to death a year before Goldman was also stabbed to death in remarkably similar fashion.

A year after Goldman's death another friend of his, fellow Mezzaluna employee Michael Nigg, was gunned down at a cashpoint in LA. Nothing was taken and it appeared the motive was not robbery.

That four middle class white people from the same social circle, all from solid family backgrounds, would be brutally murdered gangland style in a relatively short two year period seems suspicious, equally so since none of the murders have ever been solved. Could there be a connection?

by Anonymousreply 55September 18, 2021 7:08 PM

There has been speculation that perhaps some kind of small scale drugs ring may have been operating out of the Mezzaluna, and its participants may have gotten in over their heads with the bigger operators in the LA drugs underworld. As fanciful as it may seem, there is some evidence to support it.

Because most people are so adamant that OJ Simpson is guilty, it is inevitable that Ron Goldman often gets overlooked as a possible target of the attacks in his own right. But as author TH Johnson discovered, local residents had reported to a nearby tennis club that Goldman had been selling drugs in the area, could he have encroached on the territory of some bigger players?

It is rarely reported that at the time of his death Ron Goldman had an extensive criminal file, including outstanding arrest warrants. Johnson tried to obtain this file during the course of his research but discovered it had been classified under a Californian law designed to protect confidential informants.

Who or what had Goldman been informing on? One possibility is Goldman’s convoluted family background. His father Fred Goldman had married a woman named Patti Glass, the ex-wife of a Mafia lawyer and drugs dealer named Marvin Glass.

Goldman had married Patti Glass shortly after Marvin was jailed for his part in a huge drugs money laundering operation, and took custody of three of Glass’ children. According to one of the sons who became part of this makeshift new Goldman family, Fred was cruel and abusive to them.

Was Ron feeding the authorities information about Marvin Glass? Or was Glass, released and in LA on the night of the murders, directly involved in them? According to Glass’ son Brian, his father had developed a deep resentment to Fred Goldman about the perceived mistreatment of his sons whilst he was in prison.

Glass was by the court’s own account a psychotic individual, who by 1994 was dying of AIDS obtained during a blood transfusion. Did he arrange to wreak the ultimate revenge by depriving Fred of his own son Ron?

Simpson himself now apparently promotes the drug theory, at least according to Jeffrey Felix, a prison guard who says he befriended Simpson following his incarceration for armed robbery in 2007. Felix says OJ told him drug dealers had murdered Nicole and Ron over unpaid debts.

If there was anything to this, it is not surprising it was never pursued. The murky nexus of Hollywood, drugs and organised crime has always been Los Angeles’ darkest secret. The tentacles of illegal narcotics dealing spread deep into every aspect of power in the city and as would be uncovered in the years after the trial this very much included the LAPD.

The Ramparts scandal that blew in the late 90s led to the biggest corruption investigation in American law enforcement history. By the end of it dozens of LAPD officers were implicated in various cases of misconduct, many of them involving the theft and dealing of narcotics.

Valid leads that pointed to drugs as a motive for the crime may well have been overlooked by all concerned, precisely because it risked airing too much dirty laundry, whether relevant to the case and not.

Dear O.J. I'd like to see you, to talk to you in person. But I know you can't do that. I've been attending these meetings to help me turn negatives into positives -- to help me turn get rid of my anger . . . . I've learned to "let things go" (the most powerful, helpful thing I've ever learned). I've learned that all things that upset & bother me are just a mirror of what's going on in me. I always knew that what was going on with us was about me -- I just wasn't sure why it was about me -- So I just blamed you. I'm the one who was controlling. I wanted you to be faithful and be a perfect father. I was not accepting to who you are. Because I didn't like myself anymore. I'm not sure exactly what went on with me these last few years. I know New Year's Eve started it. I sank into a depression that I couldn't control. I also agree with you now -- that I went through some sort of mid life crisis -- "that 30's thing," you called it, my own self esteem . . . ect. I know it was a combination of all of these things. But mostly, due to all of these things, I know I gave up. I gave up treating you like I loved you. We started taking each other for granted -- and I didn't know how to put it all back together. I never stopped loving you -- I stopped liking myself and lost total confidence in any relationship with you.

I really needed this time in my life -- It's allowed me to get to know and like myself (again). It's given me a chance to go from a non-person, (the past 3 years) to a whole person.

There's so much I want to say to you. It's very hard to express myself in this letter. I wish we could be taking a walk around the block like we used to. It would be so much easier to speak to you face to face.

I want to put our family back together! I want our kids to grow up with their parents. I thought I'd be happy raising Sydney & Justin by myself -- since we didn't see too much of you anyway. But, now, I [missing text].

I want to be with you! I want to love you and cherish you, and make you smile. I want to wake up with you in the mornings and hold you at night. I want to hug and kiss you everyday. I want us to be the way we used to be. There was no couple like us. I don't know what I went through . . . . I didn't believe you loved me anymore -- and I couldn't handle it. But for the past month I've been looking at our wedding tape and our family movies -- and I can see that we truly loved each other. A love I've never seen in any of our friends. Please look at the 2 tapes I'm sending over with this letter. Watch them along & with your phone turned off -- they're really fun to watch.

O.J., I want to come home -- I want us all to be together again -- We can move wherever you want -- we can stay here -- I just never want to leave your side again.

I've almost come home 20 times since I left -- but I was never totally sure about us until now. I know I love you and know I'm in love with you and know I want to [missing text] and be with you forever.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 60September 18, 2021 7:44 PM

Please watch the tapes -- I know you have major anger against me -- but you owe it to your kids and to us. I had that same anger. . . I'd never let this happen to us again. Without this year, without this growth, I don't think we'd have had a chance together -- We let it die. And through death . . . something new always grows. I agree with what you said 6 or 8 months ago. The next time around will be the best. I totally feel that now. We want to come home -- we'd be there tomorrow if you'd let us. I'm not embarrassed about anything -- I don't give a hoot what anybody thinks. I only know I love you and our kids would be the happiest kids in the world.

If you're totally happy with your life now -- I'll understand -- especially if you're truly in love and know that's going to work. Then, I can't mess with that. If I don't hear from you soon -- then I'll assume that's the case and I'll never bother you or ask you to have [missing text] way to find out -- I had to ask.

O.J. You'll be my one and only "true love." I'm sorry for the pain I've caused you and I'm sorry we let it die. Please let us be a family again, and let me love you -- better than I ever have before.

I'll love you forever and always . . .

Me.

[Drawing of smiling face.]
