Elton John To Undergo Hip Replacement Surgery ASAP
Sir Elton John has announced via Instagram that plans for his 2021 Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour have been postponed following an accident that will require him to undergo surgery.
“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I am forced to reschedule the 2021 dates of my Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in Europe and the U.K. to 2023,” wrote John in his statement.
“At the end of my summer break, I fell awkwardly on a hard surface and have been in considerable pain and discomfort in my hip ever since. Despite intensive physio and specialist treatment, the pain has continued to get worse and is leading to increasing difficulties moving. I have been advised to have an operation as soon as possible to get me back to full fitness and make sure there are no long-term complications. I will be undertaking a program of intensive physiotherapy that will ensure a full recovery and a return to mobility without pain.”
John ended his message by acknowledging his fan's understandable frustration while also looking to the future. “I know how patient my incredible fans have been since [the pandemic] halted touring last year, and it breaks my heart to keep you waiting any longer. I completely feel your frustration,” he said. “I promise you this – the shows will return to the road next year and I will make sure they are more than worth the wait.”

Nothing says cutting edge rock star like "hip replacement surgery."

Sir Elton has reworked his hit, "I'm Still Standing" due to his medical condition. It will now be known as "I'm Still Standing with the Help of My Zimmer Frame."

This makes me chuckle because he announced his farewell tour less than 48 hours after Neil Diamond rushed to announce he had to retire immediately due to illness. I got the impression that Elton had been planning on announcing HIS retirement and he panicked when another big 70s oldies act retired first.
Also his farewell tour has gone on for years at this point. Went for 1 1/2 years already and has 2 years to go, I believe.

I heard somewhere that Elton was planning to use his farewell tour to fund his retirement. Covid screwed things up and now he has to deal with his body failing. I wonder if he regrets spending so much money on knickknacks.

He could fund his retirement by just selling most of his residences and keeping one main residence and a vacation home.

I saw him for the first time last year just before covid hit and was amazed how well he sang and how he sounded just like his recordings and the stamina he had for his age.

He’s 75. I can’t imagine the stress of being contractually obligated to do 350 more shows. David Furnish is really greedy and probably abuses Elton physically at homeS

He won't be doing any tours after the hip surgery. How do I know? I had my first replacement at 75, then broke the other hip, then the 1st one became necrotic and had to be redone. The aging you go through coupled with the rehab after (6 weeks each surgery). tears you down. The rate of aging seems to increase after 75. So, goodbye yellow brick road, Elton! His experience hopefully won't be as bad as mine, but you can't get out of physical rehab and hit the tour circuit.

Given the fact that Elton just had his hip replacement surgery, we’re not likely to see him perform live with Dua any time soon.
But à fan has cut and spliced a vid of the two of them seemingly singing together, which isn’t half bad

I think he probably starts off with good intentions and likes to use his pull to push new acts he likes into the foreground. In intention he seems genuine and generous. They doing duets and joint songs he finds them slots in good venues, but inevitably it seems he asks too much and they don't show at his house for a brunch or they ask too much and he's not in a mood and the whole thing becomes a bitch fest in short order. The offending party's name is never mentioned again and they are on their fucking own in a quick minute.
Dua Lipa (whoever she is) should watch her step, because one day you're in... This song is in every supermarket in Europe.
