I have a friend who is a die-hard DOOL fan and who spent his childhood and teen years (the 90s and early 00s) recording the current show, carefully labeling his tapes, and also ordering dozens of classic Days tapes from old tape collector sites. He needed a place to store the numerous boxes and I live in a big old house with lots of closets, so when lockdown hit I had this voluminous DOOL tape archive in a closet off the dining room. By mid-March 2020, I hauled out an old TV/VCR combo, set it up in the kitchen by the kitchen table, and spent the next year working my way through the archive. It started with the first week or two in 1965, then jumped to the mid-70s for Doug and Julie's wedding, then he basically had half a dozen tapes for each year of the 80s and then most of the 90s and early 00s intact.

Last winter, he showed up with a shopping bag full of DVDs he burned of 2004-2009 and I managed to watch most of those while stuck at home (to be fair, I was usually cleaning or doing homework/studying during it). When John and Marlena bailed out in 2009, I lost interest. He's talking about digitizing them soon.

R185, it's a mystery to me, too. You can see old film-type countdowns at the beginning of each episode and time stamps/counters at the bottom. Maybe there were production reels/copies converted to videotape at one point? There's no commercials on these (ditto 1976). They're also kind of greenish/ghostly in color, like off an old monitor. I don't think commercials turn up on the tapes until the 80s.

Some of those old tape collectors/traders had weird bootleg stuff. I've seen a big portion of Marie's 1966 storyline online, too, and it has the same look.

The first week or so has circulated for years, so I would assume that is some of the ones you said he purchased from a collector. The Internet Archive has the premiere episode, for instance. I didn't realize that Julie, then played by Charla Doherty, was actually the first character introduced to the audience. So it is especially amazing that she is still appearing regularly in 2021.

Philip lost his leg in a bizarre Iraq mission in 2004 or 2005, which involved Sami as Dan, if I recall correctly.

Philip returned home, but he had lost the lower part of his leg in connection to a Tony DiMera plot. He was thrilled to learn of Belle's pregnancy. Claire Kiriakis was born at St. Luke's on what was supposed to have been her maternal half-aunt Sami's wedding to her paternal half-uncle Lucas. Unfortunately, the wedding never happened.

Philip, Belle and the baby were transported to the hospital, and it was there that Belle and Philip chose their daughter's name -- it was a mutual favorite -- and Shawn and Mimi consented to be the child's godparents. When baby Claire became ill, Kate learned that her blood type was AB- and after talking to a medical student realized that there was no way Philip could be Claire's father, and soon realized that it must be Shawn. Unfortunately for poor Claire, her health continued to deteriorate, and it wasn't long before Lexie Carver realized that if Claire didn't get a liver transplant, she wouldn't survive. Luckily for Claire, Zack Brady was a match, and she received his liver after he died.

Claire recovered, and her parents were thrilled, but when the truth finally emerged about her paternity, thanks to Chelsea's intervention, Philip left town for a number of weeks, and Shawn tried to adjust to being Claire's father. Belle and Shawn finally began to reach an agreement about Claire when she was kidnapped from a diner. This terrified both Belle and Shawn, who then fell under scrutiny from social services. Unbeknownst to anyone, on the occasions when Belle would allow Victor to visit with Claire, she was also spending time with Philip, who had been injured in his duties as a Marine and needed reconstructive surgery.

When the case finally went to court, Philip showed up, having just had a face transplant, and won temporary custody of Claire, who was legally his daughter because he was married to Belle at the time of her birth and was named as her father on the birth certificate. Shortly after, Shawn and Belle kidnapped the little girl and fled the country, with Philip desperate to find out what had happened to the child he'd raised for the first year of her life. Philip was willing to use any methods to get Claire back, including teaming up with E.J. Wells.

Philip began his attempts to win Belle back, but she still maintained her relationship with Shawn. Belle and Philip even became lovers again after her father, John, died, but Belle chose to marry Shawn. When Shawn messed up at a crime scene, Philip offered to do anything he could to help Shawn with his career -- if Belle would sleep with him. Belle agreed to do so, but at the last moment, Philip felt guilty and told her she didn't have to go through with it. Shawn, Belle, and Claire left Salem soon after to bond as a family.

Why are there two Belles? Is one Kristen with Dr. Rolf's magic mask? And I want Claire back, the crazy one with the eyes.

I’ve started watching this on Peaccock again regularly after not watching for years. I have a couple of questions.

1.) Why does every scene seem to occur at night? The show looks so dark, and it’s not just that every set is painted grey. Is that deliberate ?

2. One most soaps the front burner storyline would air daily. I feel like Marlena hasn’t been onscreen in several days. It seems like In the internet of keeping so many characters on the canvas the show has all the characters on this odd rotational schedule. Is that what is happening?

2. Yes, MarDevil was last seen on Friday a week ago in the cabin with Ben and Ciara along with guardian angel Gabriel. This week she's not featured at all because the Phllip murder case is featured instead this week. MarDevil will return next week.
