He was dreamy as a young man and now he's a hot daddy. Great face and body for his age. Sadly, straight, as far as I know.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 5, 2021 3:59 PM |
I'd do him.

Is he likely to be single soon?

If that’s the best, Heaven help the rest. Without the title, he’s nothing.

He could have picked a hotter wife. Sadly, the oldest son got her looks.

I would love to be the middle of a Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Carl Philip sandwich.

Yeah he's not hot at all and the Swedish prince got ripped off by his sister who took his throne.

I’d lick Prince Frederik’s and Prince Carl Philip’s royal shitters.

by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 7, 2021 2:54 PM |
He's very boring and not sexy at all, another one who looks like an insurance salesman or school superintendent.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 7, 2021 3:54 PM |
Danes are inclined to have that inbred look. I don’t think this princeling is any exception.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 7, 2021 4:15 PM |
His nephews are much hotter.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 7, 2021 4:16 PM |
Oh god, no, OP. As long as Sweden's prince Carl is still looking like he does at R6, the hottest royal is not this middle aged dork with a lopsided face.

Huuuuuge head.

He doesn’t even faintly ping, alas.

Fred is adorable. Very lovable.
Carl is fucking hot.
Two very different types.

The fraus at royaldish fucking hate him and his wife. But to be honest, most of the hate towards Mary seems weirdly classist and anti Australian. Frederick is sort of known as the Prince Harry of the Scandinavian royals
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 7, 2021 9:23 PM |
Anyone have the photo of Prince Frederik pissing off the side of a boat? I used to have it, but can't find it. Now it appears the photo has disappeared from the Internet. It clearly shows Frederik's intact cock as he relieved himself while on a sailing boat in his younger, carefree days.

R3 Wait for Crown Prince Haakon of Norway. His wife has a lethal lung disease. She's probably not got more than 3 years left.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 7, 2021 9:28 PM |
R35 Except Freddums is going to be King Frderik X of Denmark and that makes him very un-Harry.
I think Mary quite attractive and the nearly 16 year old next heir to the throne is growing up quite handsome.
He's the next heir. I'm saving him for Pss. Charlotte.

R31 He may have a peasant face but the Danish monarchy is the oldest in Europe.
I'll take the peasant face and his huge gorgeous apartment in the palace in Copenhagen, Frederiksborg Palace and Graasten after Daisy kicks the bucket, and the chateau in Caix, France.
You can see if you can get to Carl in the broom closet.

Crown Prince Haakon is a fox. He married that oversized milk maid with her shady past. I guess that he really loves her. Allegedly she has cheated on him. And now she’s slowly dying of COPD or something.

R46 Matter of opinion. Prince Christian is quite handsome in my opinion, tall, with dark hair but blue eyes, and the younger boy, one of the twins, is already handsome. Pss. Idalsella is moving quickly past her puxgy homely stage, with beautiful hair, eyes, and skin. It's the girl twin who so far looks like she got dealt the short straw.
Mary was quite attractive enough. In fact, it was no secret in Denmark that the Spare, Prince Joachim, had quite the crush on her. You can actually see him whistling in admiration when the doors opened at tbe church and she started down the aisle if you watch the footage. His second wife is a very similar looking small brunette whose name is Marie and whose birthday is only a day or two off from Mary's.
Full disclosure: I have friends in Denmark and on a visit years ago on early fall they took me to stand outside the Folketing to see the royals arrive for the opening of the Danish Parliament.
Mary was exquisitely dressed in a fawn coat dress, matching hat, was much prettier in person, and much smaller than in her photos. Very trim, very lively large dark eyes, beautiful hair.
Freddums knew what he was doing.

Gross.
People who talk about how hot Danish and Dutch men are need to be honest about their point of view...because they clearly think ALL white men are hot.
I've literally been to every single country in Europe and the men in Denmark were toward the bottom of the hotness scale. They're often pale with doughy faces and bad teeth.

Viggo Mortensen, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Mads Mikkelsen: ALL of them dogs!

Ok, ok. Viggo and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau are hot, but they're exceptions, not the rule. Meanwhile, Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Mads Mikkelsen ARE dogs...or at least not very attractive.
I'm just referring to the generalizations made earlier...all Danish men are hot. I've been to Denmark several times and just never really saw any men who made my jaw drop.
That said, I feel the same way about Dutch men, yet Michael Huisman is my personal gold standard for male beauty.

The scoop of Frederik is that his mother is a controlling tyrant behind her smile glasses and yellow teeth. Frederik famously is a self-absorbed, lazy and egotistical sort who has even shamed his wife in public when she seemed to be getting too much attention (shades of Charles). He's considered very difficult to try to work with, doesn't really give a shit, and has a horror of turning into another pathetic heir apparent for life.
And he fucks around one his brilliant wife. But no gay rumors.
He was such a handsome and charm-emanating younger man. Tsk.

Margrethe (who is genuinely a very impressive woman) seems like an intellectual-artistic type who probably wouldn’t have had children if she weren’t basically required too. Frederick often spoke about how unhappy his childhood was and how he basically never saw his parents until he was 18. I remember hil seeing his mom would always be pissed if someone left the dinner table before she did because she was the Queen
by Anonymous | reply 69 | September 8, 2021 5:29 PM |
R62 - Good idea. Sure - men like Erik Bruhn and Viggo Mortensen . . . merely cute.
You are a lying fuck. A Martian would look at these two men at least and realise how gorgeous they are. Either man's face would be appropriate on coin of the realm, especially Bruhn's. He looked like a fucking Norse God.
You can say they're not your top taste, but you'd have to be blind not to see their handsomeness. I never got, e.g., Pierce Brosnan's appeal, but I wouldn't be stupid enough to try to say he wasn't handsome.
You hate them BECAUSE they're Noridc AND great-looking. That's what's really eating at you: it's all tribal bullshit.
If we had a thread extolling the appeal of men like Idris Elba, Denzel Washington, Marcus Rashford, would you tolerate someone butting in to say you only like them because they're black?!
by Anonymous | reply 70 | September 8, 2021 5:48 PM |
Carl Philip isn't aging that great, but he's still handsome. He's always stood with Felipe of Spain as the hottest male royals (at least during my lifetime). Oh, and Crown Prince Haakon is very handsome as well.

by Anonymous | reply 72 | September 8, 2021 5:58 PM |
QEII and Queen Margrethe have something in common: superlative monarchs, lousy mothers. Both suffer from issues of personal emotional engagement, and all their children were marked by it.
She got on better with them as adults, and is allegedly a loving Gran, but the latter, of course, is rather easier.
Both ascended far earlier than they would have liked and had very young children She and Henrik had only been married five years or so when Christian IX died; QEII ditto - she and Philip were married only give years when King George VI died in 1952.
The jobs then took first place in front of everything else, and nannies took up the slack.
It's probably one reason why neither woman has been willing to abdicate even when it seemed practical to do so. Both wanted their heirs to have the time to bring up young families and not get thrown into the top job so soon - in QEII's case, this really means William and Kate. There was little expectation of Charles becoming King whilst still with two young children, as the Queen was only in her late fifties when Charles married.
One of the Windsors' biographers said that like ducks, they make bad parents: they trample their young.
It's probably more the norm than the exception that Sovereigns make bad parents.

LMAO, what are you going on about, R70? I already conceded Viggo and Nikolaj C-W are handsome. I also mentioned a Nordic prince I actually find attractive at R71 (Haakon of Norway).
Not all Danish men are ugly, sheesh. I might've leaned into my original comment to be provocative, but my larger point is that I didn't form my opinion in a vacuum. I also had several opportunities to check out the talent while in Copanhagen...and as the largest city in the country, I was shocked by the dearth of hot men.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | September 8, 2021 6:04 PM |
Yes, he’s knocking on a bit now and yes, his teeth are terrible (from smoking, I think) but as a younger man Lars Mikkelsen was very hot.

I had the opposite experience in Copenhagen…everywhere I looked there were tall, fresh-faced, clean looking hot men. Maybe it’s because I’m British…well, enough said.
I also love Denmark the country…everything about it except how expensive it all is. Yes, I would happily see out my days in Copenhagen with a hot daddy who looked a bit like Fred 🤷♂️

R73, you mean Frederik IX, not Christian IX. Frederik IX was Queen Margrethe II's father. Christian IX was an ancestor of hers, as well as an ancestor of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | September 8, 2021 8:18 PM |
To me CP Frederik has the same type of sexiness that Joshua Jackson has. There's a softness to his look, but an underlying hint of a man who can probably be quite naughty in private.

by Anonymous | reply 83 | September 8, 2021 9:28 PM |
It's interesting because we often think of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip as being third cousins through Queen Victoria, which they are. But they are also second cousins, once removed through Christian IX of Denmark. Elizabeth traces her ancestry through Christian IX's daughter Alexandra, who married King Edward VII of Britain, parents of George V, father of George VI, father of Elizabeth II. Prince Philip traces his ancestry from Christian IX through Christian's son King George I of Greece, father of Prince Andrew of Greece, father of Prince Philip. Given that royalty may now marry commoners, the union of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip may be the last time we have second and third cousins marrying each other among British royalty.

I must be missing something. I'm not saying Prince Frederik is ugly, but several degrees away from what I would consider to be hot.
Seems rare to have a good looking royal, I guess it's too much in-breeding? The shallow gene pool doesn't produce hotness.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | September 9, 2021 5:01 PM |
The Danish Royals are incredibly dysfunctional to they point they actually make the British Royals look like a squabbling middle class family. The difference however is that the Danish Press is far more differential to the danish royals than the British Press to the British royals. Part of the reason for that is that the Danish Royal Family is much more available to the press. Queen Margrethe and all the royals give regular interviews and are granted regular (up close) access to many family events that the British royals would deem private. Also the Danish monarchy is still hugely popular with the Danish people (I think it enjoys something like 85% support) so the press rarely openly attack it.
R73 In honesty, I think Queen Margrethe was a far worse mother than Queen Elizabeth II. Elizabeth was a distant mother who was not particularly affectionate with her children (although she was much more hands on with Andrew and Edward) and left a lot of the parenting to Philip particularly for Charles and Anne. But Elizabeth did enjoy spending time with her children, though somewhat limited due to her schedule, and with Andre and Edward she frequently gave them their bath and put them to bed when they were young.
Margrethe does not like children and was not heavily involved in her children's life. Frederik has claimed that it wasn't unusual for him to go weeks without seeing his mother as a child and he cannot recall his mother ever hugging or holding him. Prince Henrik was a bully (much more so than Philip) who wasn't above slapping the kids around. Whereas Elizabeth was distant, Margrethe was not involved in her children's lives to any significant degree until they were older.
As for the other gossip, it's pretty much an open secret that Frederik has fucked around on Mary several times. The true love of Frederik's life is Katja Storkholm (some people call her the Camilla of the North) whom he wanted to marry but his mother absolutely refused to allow it. It is rumoured that Katja's son is actually Frederik's and that's the reason Katja and her husband divorced. Also there has been rumours for several years that the Danish press has a "sex tape" involving Frederik and an eighteen year old blonde girl allegedly taken around the time his twins were born. There is also a rumour that Mary had an affair with a former danish cabinet minister whose name escapes me. In the early 2010s, he escorted her on a number of foreign tours which raised some eyebrows in some circles.
Then there have been rumours about Prince Joachim begin gay or bisexual for years.

All very interesting R96. Thanks. Can’t say that any of it surprises me.
I do still have ❤️ for Fred tho.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | September 9, 2021 5:56 PM |
R97 I think Fred is actually a good person screwed up by life circumstances outside of his control. He had terrible parents, intellectually more limited than his brother (his brother being his parents favourite), was forbidden from marrying the woman he loved, his marriage to Mary has not been overly happy (he was sort of pushed into it like Charles was to Diana) but unlike Charles and Diana I think they have both made peace with it (Mary loves being Crown Princess way too much to give it up). I do think though he's come into his own in the last few years. Margrethe is not in the best of health and I think in the last decade he's come to terms with his destiny and is ready to take over.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | September 9, 2021 6:12 PM |
Glad he’s come to terms with his destiny because he’s fucking 53 years old. The time to brood and pout should have ended in his mid-20s. He has access to the BEST therapist in his mother’s kingdom and money for any other treatments needed to get over himself. He’s faced with a future filled of money, jewelry, easy living, 3 hour work days (at the most), and endless privileges for him and his offspring. He has it fucking made and doesn’t even have to use his tiny brain, yet will get money and power.
I honestly can’t believe how ungrateful some people can be in this world. Sure, his mom’s a cunt of a mother and his faggy dead dad was no better, whatever, he wasn’t around them much so that worked out. He was spared their toxicity while using the royal credit card, win-fucking-win!!!

R99, jealous much?
by Anonymous | reply 100 | September 9, 2021 8:53 PM |
You have to take most of this with a grain of salt. Frederik and Mary dated for years before they took careful steps toward marriage. She went to Paris first after they'd dated a year or two, then shoved to Denmark for a year where she was pretty much left alone, and only after that did they get engaged. This wasn't at all like the six-month, saw each other 13 times, the press for her corralled him, type of speedy wonder that the Charles and Diana mismatch was.
Frederik took his time proposing to Mary, who played it cool and discreet. He may have wanted to get married and settled on her, but no way was he pushed into it.
As for the cheating rumours, I believe them about him, but not her and the Cabinet minister.
But I agree that Mary loves the life he gave her and accepts it all as it is. They seem very united as parents, and the Danes like her and respect her.
Meghan and Diana both could have taken some lessons from both Mary and Marie. The latter also knows how lucky she is, even if she got the Spare.
I doubt Joachim is gay. He looks a bit of a pain in the arse, frankly. But I do believe the stuff about his massive crush on Mary when she first came into the family.

R96 Really, any of us come up with a non-dysfunctional royal family anywhere?
As for cheaters, King Juan Carlos, King Carl Gustaf, ex-King Constantine, and King Harald all make Charles and Camilla, and a few side trips by Fred and maybe William, look like amateurs. Then there's the corruption in the Spanish court, and I'm fairly sure the elder Infanta, Elena, and her ex-husband were a lavender marriage.
The Belgian royal couple look rather happy, but the younger brother is a mess. The Dutch family look reasonably OK. Then there was Crown Princess Victoria's eating disorders before she found happiness with the personal traitor.
And we haven't even gotten to the Japanese court, which makes every royal house in Europe look like card- carrying Marxists. What they did to Naruhito's wife because she couldn't have a son was beyond heinous.
It's a totally fucked up concept. The marvel is that any kids come out of it reasonably OK.

What WAS up with them sending the kids to boarding school? It was only for 10 weeks and Mary stayed in their chalet in Verbier the whole time but it was out of nowhere. The twins were only 9 at the time. Many people thought maybe Margrethe was having health problems but that wasn’t the case.

R108 Yes all those Kings you listed have cheated on their wives, but I don't believe King Harald of Norway has. He and Queen Sonja by all accounts have had a very happy marriage (Harold had to fight to marry Sonja because at the time Norwegian royals could not marry commoners).
Frederik has cheated on Mary this is basically an open secret in Denmark particularly in posh circles in Copenhagen. The mainstream Danish press have never run the story out of respect for both the Queen and Crown Princess Mary but it has been hinted at if you know when to read between the lines.
R98 Katja Storkholm is a former lingerie model Frederik met in his early 20s and has apparently carried a flame for ever since. He proposed to her but Queen Margrethe and Frederik's grandmother Queen Ingrid, who Fred was very close to (think the Queen Mum with Prince Charles for British royal watchers) forbid the marriage partly because of Katja's risque past (there is rumours that Strokholm may have done some porn videos when she in her late teens early 20s) and the Danish royal have an unofficial rule that they cannot marry Danish citizens.
R101 Mary was initially a rebound fling but Fred liked her sense of humour and confidence. Mary actually first went after Crown Prince Felipe of Spain who was traveling with Fredrik for the Olympics before turning her attention to Fred. It's believed that Fred's parents and the royal court encouraged the relationship as she was a foreigner and someone with a far less controversial past, but Fred actually continued seeing other women even after Mary moved to Europe. While I don't think Frederik was pushed into marriage with Mary he had to get married and have kids and with Mary he had someone he liked spending time with and enough of an attraction to fuck her (at least for their first child) and get her pregnant. But it has never been a great love match. Mary loved the idea of being a Princess more than Frederik I think and to her credit has done a great job at it. But apparently Mary is, despite her public image, a total bitch in real life, in fact, no one in her family is on speaking terms with her anymore.
There is a book out by Trine Villemann (don't know if it's in English) a former Danish royal reporter who spills a lot of gossip in her books about Mary and Frederik's marriage.

R114 - Harald and Sonja nearly came to a divorce over his infidelities. That their were rocks in the mattress was fairly common knowledge, but they moved past it and now they're old. Remember, their kids didn't turn out so well, either: Princess Marthe Louis is an idiot, with a husband who committed suicide and now hooked up with some black shaman. Haakon had a wild youth and look who he married: a former waitress with a druggie past, a criminal father, and an illegitimate son. If those are the emblems of a happy marriage - ermmmm . . . Haakon's marriage to Mette-Marit has been through very rough patches, as well - they were living virtually separate lives for awhile.
By the way, Mette-Marit, Haakon's wife, was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis a year or two ago. It is nearly always fatal, depending on whether the sufferer is young and strong enough to weather a lung transplant, and even with that, it cannot always extend the prognosis much.
Trine Villeman is the Omid Scobie of Danish tabloids.

R114 - Links to proof that no one in Mary's family is speaking to her anymore. Her father just turned 80, by the way.
I think the assessment of how the match came about is a fair one. The thing is, Frederik was always a lazy sort who clearly wasn't thrilled with royal duty and could have lived his entire life sailing, yachting, and skiing. Mary brought energy to the job that Frederik didn't have (he was no Prince Charles), and she took to it like a duck to water and did more work than he did, even when doing the next generation obligations. Her mother-in-law seems to have a shrewd appreciation of Mary's ability to do the job, and if Frederik isn't ecstatically in love, too bad. In that sense, Frederik made the right choice.
I think you have to be made of chrome steel underneath it all to come in to a foreign country, learn a really difficult language fluently, be on view all the time, prove your worth as a brood mare, patroness, representative of an old monarchy, etc., and not get run over.
Mary and Maxima of The Netherlands are the prima facie examples of how it can be done.
Mary really knew she had to hit the ground running, and she did; Meghan Markle boasted about it but was, in reality, totally not up to the job and then blamed everyone around her for her massive failure to grapple with the role she was given, and she wasn't even in the hot spot that the two future Queens were.
Eggs were thrown at the golden carriage that Maxima and Willem rode back to the Palace with after their marriage, I saw the footage. A footman (who was probably a security man in a footman's uniform) walking next to the carriage wiped it off quickly with his glove. Maxima's father was attached to the brutal regime in Argentina and wasn't even allowed to attend his daughter's wedding, let alone walk her down the aisle. She had to make a speech about it on television after the engagement was announced. She was speaking fluent Dutch by the time the engagement was announced, I saw the engagement interview.
I admire these women for their unashamed ambition, guts, and willingness to do what it takes in return for the immense privilege they landed themselves in. The Dutch royal family is richer than the Windsors. I think only the Lichtensteinian royal family is richer.
The Norwegians and Belgians are the poor relations. The Danes, Swedes, Luxembourg are somewhere in the middle.
All in all, the two couples who look the happiest in Europe would be Maxima and Willem, and Philippe and Matilde of Belgium. I think Felipe of Spain is happy with his choice, although Letizia is not that liked in Spain and has a reputation of being a cold, demanding, imperious bitch.
Charles and Camilla are happy. I think William and Kate are happy. The Luxembourg Grand Ducal marriage is still in its early days, and he's reputed to be a fellow traveller and they waited some time before having a baby . . .
But for sure the most miserable royal wives are Charlene of Monaco and Naruhito's wife, Empress Masako.
Well, we seem to have created our own Royal Foibles thread out of the Frederik one.

R118 The Sonja/Harald almost divorced because of an affair was a rumour started on some random royal forum a few years ago. Harald and Sonja have had a happy marriage. Harald's father Olav, however, always hated Sonja and thought she was beneath them all because she was a commoner. Now it is true that Haakon and Mette-Marit's marriage has been all over the place. I think it's open knowledge that they were on the cusp of divorce in the early 2010s after MM allegedly had an affair. There was a period where the two were very rarely seen in public together. It's even rumoured that the King and Queen tried to push Haakon to divorce sooner rather than later in order to avoid complications if the King should die fearing that Haakon's popularity might temporarily wane if there was a divorce. But I think part of the reason they have stayed married is MM was such a controversial choice for a future Queen that he didn't want to publicly admit failure.
R116 Mary is very popular in the Denmark (and LGBTQ rights in Demark have been widely accepted for decades). The most frequent complaint against Mary in Demark is that she spends too much money on clothes. Mary is very image conscious but she also knew what she was getting herself into and she is willing to put up with a lot of Fred's crap because she loves the position she married into.
R120 Without a shadow of a doubt, the happiest royal couples in Europe are Charles/Camilla, William/Kate, Victoria/Daniel and Maxima and Willem. Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg and his wife have been married almost as long as William and Kate so I wouldn't call it early days...but yes there are rumours that Guillaume is gay and that the marriage is a sham. It's believed that the baby was not conceived au natural.
Philippe and Matilde of Belgium seem like a solid working couple but there have also been whispers about Philippe's sexuality for years. His marriage to Matilde came out of no where. Felipe of Spain is 100% in love with Letizia, I question if she is with him.

R127 Allegedly the British Court highlighted Mary as someone Kate might want to try and emulate but I don't think Mary and Kate are particularly close. I think they've only met in person a handful of times. The British royals aren't very close to their European relations. The Queen does host foreign royals privately whenever they are in London, but Edward and Sophie are they only two that seem to have ongoing friendships with the continental royals.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | September 10, 2021 7:52 PM |
[124] They’re not cash-poor by any means. Their private fortunes doesn’t compare to those of the British or Luxembourg royal houses, but they’re still substantial. All royal families receive some kind of stipend from the government, generally to cover official duties and the upkeep and staff of Royal Palaces (generally owned by the state, not the royal family itself). The exact organization and division of assets between the royal family and the state vary between countries.

R123 Given the lethal condition Mette-Marit has, I suppose it's good they didn't divorce. The daughter seems quite lovely. She has her father's softer look and colouring. I think Mette-Marit is hard looking the way some over-blonde women can.
I don't think the Danish monarchy is in quite the same tricky position that the BRF is in terms of politics. Queen Margrethe came out several years ago and condemned the concept of Denmark as a multicultural country. I don't say she'd come out and suggest people vote for the DPP, but it's not quite as fierce a thing as it is in Britain. But then. Denmark is still 90% white Danish-European. And it's come down hard on failure to integrate fully, cur back asylum benefits, and made naturalisation very hard. So Margrethe probably felt on safe ground saying that.
I really like Maxima. She just seems to love life so much. And considering she's not even pretty, I have to admire where her joie de vivre took her.
It's just too bad she married into a royal house whose national colour looks so ghastly on her.

R137, the article you linked indicates the press gathering took place after Josephine Charlotte died.

Mary first went after Felipe of Spain at the Sydney Olympics but was rebuffed, she then allegedly SLEPT with Nikolaos of Greece (another cousin of Fred's) before finally catching Fred's eye and the rest is history. Whether truth or not, I agree with the high assessment of her abilities and achievements as Crown Princess. She really took the the role and made it her own.
Guillaume and Stephanie of Luxembourg may/may not be in a sham marriage, but they are absolutely thrilled to be parents to their new baby boy Charles and look completely besotted with him in every photo and video clip. R141 Mary absolutely wanted to bag a Prince once that became an option for her and she did it. Despite that, I think she is grounded in a degree of self-awareness and clearly understood what the perks and disadvantages of such a move would be. Unlike a certain American actress turned Duchess she understands that her status in life comes from the institution she married into and not from anything particularly amazing about herself. She came in understanding this and was determined to be a success and she has done that. Her personal popularity in Denmark has ensured the monarchy will survive for another generation at least. I also believe Fred has cheated on her and while it might not have been easy, she will not leave him and he will not leave her. I don't know the state of their marriage, but they've clearly learned to make a successful professional partnership.

R142 I’m a fan of Meghan, cause I love anyone that drives Royalists crazy, but you are 100% correct. She failed miserably at an easy job of being a Princess/Duchess.
That said, Mary has my respect for being a gold digger that could see her plan all the way through. She seems lovely in public and learned the local language. She and the Swedish Crown Princess are my favorite crop of upcoming Queens. Kate also has nice hair and is doing an admirable job of making Williams’ branch of the family look good, cause I think he’s such an asshole and his foolish brother is no different.
This is to say that these future monarchs born in the 70s & 80s largely got things right in regards to future Queens or Prince Regents, minus that Prince that married the dying chick.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | September 17, 2021 4:12 PM |
R144 I don't like Meghan not because I'm a royalist but because it's so clear she's a fame whore who should never been allowed within 100 miles of the British Royal Family.
I do see some parallels between Mary and Meghan except Mary isn't narcissistic like Meghan. Mary has always known that she was nobody special and that her fame, money, and relevancy all come from being a member of the Danish Royal Family. Take that away, and she's back to being a nobody. This is why Mary has worked hard to be successful as a Princess(while clearly enjoying the perks of it as she loves expensive clothes) and why she will never leave Frederik regardless if he's fucking around on her because her relevancy would fade over time.
Meghan has always acted like she was a "gift" to the royal family. She has an enormous sense of self-importance. She is also fame and money obsessed and I think she thought royal life was beneath her. Despite the pomp, the British Royals (particularly minor royals) don't live in Hollywood glamour. The Palaces are actually dingy and the living quarters are tiny compared to the vast mansions of Hollywood, and most royal duties are boring (you know visiting seniors homes and cutting ribbons and making small talk with small town mayors). Also I believe the rumours that she's bitter with Catherine because secretly she wants William.
In the end, Mary will continue to be relevant long after Meghan. I've said it before, remaining within the royal family would have set Meghan up for life.

R145 I agree with you 100% but another difference is Mary is not emotionally manipulative with her husband and I believe she genuinely loves him.
R146 They were in love I agree with that for sure. Frederik is known to be very indecisive and I doubt would have married her if he didn't care for her. But I also think the marriage has cooled and turned into something more professional than deeply romantic. There were clues and rumours in the early 2010s that things were off between them, but I think as Queen M's health is on the wane they've regrouped knowing Frederik is going to be king soon.

Charles cried about his press coverage. Harry, cries about press coverage. William, cries about working and press coverage.
The women have the back bones in the BRF and bigger balls then their weak ass men. William gives off entitled brat and anger management vibes. R151 - Could not have stated it better myself!!
by Anonymous | reply 153 | September 17, 2021 7:58 PM |
I think William is a fairly decent-looking man, with good body and impeccable manners in public.
I really don’t care if he is entitled. He is Prince William of Wales, future king of the United Kingdom and sundry other overseas territories. He has been under a microscope since birth, and he has very rarely put a foot wrong. If he had, it would have made the UK papers the next day.
He really is the best of his grandmother and father, with Elizabeth’s dignity and graciousness and Charles’ earnestness. It makes him a strange mixture (both slightly stand-offish and also eager to please and do good), but it works. His brother may get plaudits for being informal, but William is never really going to be as off-guard. He keeps a distance, as his grandmother does. While he is very good at talking to all sorts of people on his engagements. He is always the future king.
He’s also cleverer than his parents and brother: he grew up seeing what celebrity did to his mother and how emotionally constipated his father was, and he has learned from their example. He holds some of himself back, never wears his whole heart on his sleeve, and has his emotional needs met by the family he and Kate have created. He doesn’t need Diana’s adoring crowds, or Harry’s podcast adulation.
The Queen must breathe a sigh of relief that her crown will land on his head in due course.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | September 17, 2021 8:51 PM |
R154 I don’t disagree that he’s good enough for the job. But the press go beyond kissing his ass, the literally rim Williams’ hole. They aren’t excited for A King Charles (who is?) so they and the conservative Royalists made William/Kate into a great white hope for the UK. Any scandal or criticism is largely surprised in exchange for access and gossip. We saw this with the Harry/Meghan vs William/Kate PR issues before they split their groups. Williams people feed the beast to keep the heat of off his court. He’s also had staff for rouge with negative pressure after the Queen said to cut the crap out. This is learned behavior from a Charles that uses to throw both of his sons under the bus, to make himself look better. Such a rotten family.
Of course someone will seem abs sound better when you’re favored, just like Elizabeth is treated with kid gloves. The Daily Mail never have anything really bad to say about William or Kate since like 2015 or so.
But, to be fair, it appears that like his grandmother, he keeps to the script in public. This is why it’s good that he was the oldest because he’s less impulsive, in public. But his team’s PR antics show his immaturity. Nothing but a spoiled, spiteful man, sad to see his looks and hair disappear. With a 55% approval rating, William doesn’t have much to worry about.

R148 I think your summary of Frederik's and Mary's relationship is spot on. by Anonymous | reply 168 | September 18, 2021 5:52 PM |
Harry was elfin looking as a child, he only briefly got handsome when wearing military uniforms. Charles apparently took one look at him and recoiled in disgust at the red hair, and the marriage to Diana died thereafter.

The Spencer boys do not age well. Diana's nephew, Louis, was hot, but now is turning into his father.
by Anonymous | reply 170 | September 20, 2021 6:32 PM |
R170 - what are you talking about? He looks really good in that pic.
by Anonymous | reply 171 | September 20, 2021 7:56 PM |
The Harrys of the British aristocracy were so useless they were banished to the remoter regions of the British Empire where they could go to the dogs (drink, opium, fornication) and not trouble the real heirs.

R171 He does look good in that photo but that was 2014 before he had a beard. Here he is in 2018 and the Dad genes are starting.
by Anonymous | reply 173 | September 20, 2021 8:22 PM |
R173 - oh, yeah, I can see it there.
by Anonymous | reply 174 | September 20, 2021 9:00 PM |
Louis Spencer's profile actually looks a lot like Diana's. If he were in drag he could be her doppleganger.

I’d still lick his aristo shitter at r173.

Thanks R52, I got my daily swoon in looking at Rudy. He was so drop dead gorgeous.

R6 Yes, Carl is hot and Frederik is sadly past his prime. Carl wins out every time.

Fredrik was never hot. He’s extremely average.

I'm not surprised to hear scuttle of some problem between Frederik and Mary around the time of their twins' birth. Look at the video of the christening and the mega-bitch look that Mary gives him at 20:35. Looks like he's in the doghouse in a big way.
I don't think it's a sham marriage at all. They've been married for close to 20 years in the bizarro world of hereditary monarchy and have 4 kids. I would think they'd give each other a pass for the occasional, benign fling (the King of Sweden is known to have done it), much the way that ordinary Danes are often willing to look the other way when their spouse or partner screws around at a julefrokost. Events like that "get-out-of-jail-free" cards for otherwise serially monogamous Danes, even those without the royal sense of entitlement (and opportunity).
I think Frederik looks hotter with the glasses and the five-o-clock shadow. He was kind of blah in his younger years. Haakon has always been my fave among the Scandi royals. Carl Philip is also smokin', and frankly I'm glad that he's not heir to the throne--otherwise there's no way in hell he'd have been allowed to marry Sofia, and they seem genuinely happy together.

Chiming in late on the Danish kids getting shipped off to boarding school. It wasn’t really reported but Mary was also staying in Switzerland and the younger kids at least were staying with her. They rented a house in town and Fred flew over when he could. Then COVID happened and they all came home. I’d like to be royal for the real estate. Mary and Fred’s place in Amailienborg is spectacular.

Mary went to some kind of charm school before marrying Frederik. So did it so she could learn manners and diplomacy as the wife of a prince. I thought that was kind of endearing.
by Anonymous | reply 184 | September 27, 2021 12:42 AM |
For a middle-class girl from Tasmania she's done quite well, in the learning and adaptation department. She went from an established adult life in her home country, to learning the language, culture and economics of a country she never dreamed of living in, all while under the most intense public scrutiny and spotlight. She married and raised children under same brutal spotlight, reasonably well (so far) and performs her royal duties like a pro. Really the blueprint role model for a commoner royal consort.
by Anonymous | reply 185 | September 27, 2021 2:02 PM |
Frederik met Mary in a bar. She was a real estate agent. Apparently she's upset that, as a royal, she isn't allowed to do anything substantial--like being named to policy councils.
As if becoming a royal automatically makes you an expert in anything.

Where has it been reported that Mary is upset at not being named to policy councils? I read Nordic news outlets every day in their respective languages and haven't seen anything to suggest that in the slightest.

Because they add depth and character to an otherwise nondescript and somewhat uneven face.
by Anonymous | reply 193 | September 28, 2021 12:31 AM |
I wouldn't be surprised if Mary was slightly frustrated (as I'm sure all royals are from time to time). Mary seems slightly more political than other royals but Scandiavian royals seem to be allowed to express their opinions a bit more than the British Royals.

She was cuter when she was younger but is not ageing that great. He was not so cute when younger but sexy now with that salt and pepper sexy beard and tousled hair. I don't know why none of their kids came out cute. The ones that favor him a bit might turn out OK.
by Anonymous | reply 197 | October 14, 2021 11:58 AM |
Being from Australia means that Mary is as far away from that questionable gene pool as possible. So even if the kids aren’t spectacular looking, at least they are not genetically tainted.

[quote] Apparently she's upset that, as a royal, she isn't allowed to do anything substantial--like being named to policy councils.
Why would she want to bother with that? No one would take her seriously anyway. Consistently show up to the big and small events of national life and look pretty doing it. That’s all that’s required of a princess apart from producing an heir.
by Anonymous | reply 199 | October 14, 2021 9:19 PM |
R199 she has lots of time on her hands and I think she’s already doing what you said above as patron of causes. But a patron is just the money person and fancy name on the website. She probably wants to actually join an initiative to give input on a topic or process, rather than attend one of their dinner galas. If you’re passionate about something or want to actually affect change from a position of privilege then her desires make sense.
What I want to know is who’s stopping her and what are the consequences of just doing it anyway? Will her husband divorce her? Will the Queen banish her? She’s produced an heir and is popular, her position is rock solid. I think she should take the risk because it’s not like they can toss her overboard. Though that bitch of a queen is probably a number behind closed doors. Her own husband didn’t even want to buried in her future plot, lol.

I wonder how fluent Mary really is in Danish - I've heard it's exceptionally difficult to pronounce.
by Anonymous | reply 201 | October 15, 2021 12:20 AM |
She has an accent and a fairly limited vocabulary, but makes her herself understood just fine, and she worked hard to get to the level she is at, which means a lot to Danes. It is not an easy language to learn.
by Anonymous | reply 202 | October 15, 2021 1:08 AM |
R201 & R201 Yes, Danish is a difficult language for English speakers. I would say next to Finish, it's the hardest language of the 4 major Scandinavian countries (Norwegian is probably the easiest for English speakers then Swedish). From what I've read, Mary speaks Danish well enough (probably about a high school level) but it's accented. Her former sister-in-law Princess Alexandra (Prince Joachim's fist wife) won over the Danes because she learned to speak Danish almost flawlessly.
by Anonymous | reply 203 | October 15, 2021 1:15 AM |
Alex won over the Danes with her language skills, but she left Joachim in scandalous fashion for a much-younger scoundrel and drunk, all while collecting a large yearly "apanage" (stipend) which put the long-term desirability of a "large" monarchy itself into considerable doubt. She and her brilliant language skills caused tremendous scandal.
Mary is hardworking, as down-to-earth and easygoing as a future Queen Consort can reasonably be, and has made no ripples.

What kind of cigarettes does HM Queen Margrethe smoke?

R205 Karelia an unfiltered Greek brand of cigarettes that are imported to Denmark specifically for her.

"Her own husband didn’t even want to buried in her future plot, lol."
R200 - Prince Henrik of Denmark (11 June 1934 – 13 February 2018) was in the second or third stage of dementia when he made that statement and died not long after he made this statement.

by Anonymous | reply 210 | October 15, 2021 6:00 PM |
Her teeth are monstrous, but the rest of her looks pretty good for 81 years old. They’re a hardy race, those Danes.
