No other words for him.

I loved Sterling Holloway.

by Anonymousreply 1August 31, 2021 2:11 PM

Yeah, and dat HAIR!

by Anonymousreply 2August 31, 2021 2:11 PM

He seemed very gay in a 1951 appearance on The Fred Waring Show.

by Anonymousreply 3August 31, 2021 2:44 PM

He was always awful and ruined everything he was in. He even fucked up an old episode of Superman with George Reeves.

I avoid him as much as possible.

by Anonymousreply 4August 31, 2021 3:07 PM

OP: You hate Winnie the Pooh?!?!?

by Anonymousreply 5August 31, 2021 3:33 PM

Yes.

by Anonymousreply 6August 31, 2021 3:33 PM

His Bird Man of Alcatraz on that Gilligan's Island episode is a classic.

by Anonymousreply 7August 31, 2021 3:40 PM

Great line in a Joan Blondell film called Blondie Johnson. She asks him if he's honest and he replies, "On occasion, and usually by accident." Funny cameo as a hat delivery boy in "Gold Diggers of 1933".

by Anonymousreply 8August 31, 2021 3:45 PM

Oh so THAT's the inspiration for Martin Short

I routinely put his name on any "actors you can't stand" threads that we have.

by Anonymousreply 11August 31, 2021 3:51 PM

Peter & the Wolf wouldn’t be the same without Sterling Holloway

…and hello, as R5 said, Winnie the Pooh???

Did he get along with Crawford in "Johnny Guitar"?

by Anonymousreply 13August 31, 2021 4:47 PM

You gays only like the WtP episode where is ass is sticking out and he's defenseless. Sickos

Dear God, does DataLounge now have a Sterling Holloway troll?

by Anonymousreply 15August 31, 2021 6:05 PM

The only reason to watch WtP was for ME

by Anonymousreply 16August 31, 2021 9:28 PM

You still haven't told us what's awful about him, OP.

He was a "confirmed bachelor" and he died of a "generic heart attack."

That means AIDS.

by Anonymousreply 18September 1, 2021 12:56 PM

r17 Watch anything he was in.

by Anonymousreply 19September 1, 2021 12:56 PM

Agreed. Sterling Hayden, on the other hand, had a much more agreeable screen presence.

R8, speaking of Joan Blondell, Sterling Holloway appeared with her and William Demarest in an episode of classic 'Twilight Zone' called 'What's In The Box' (Season Five, Episode 24).

This episode was the first time I'd ever seen what he looked like. Gay as hell, IMO.

He had a younger lover who he adopted and who inherited his estate.

The usual "didn't want to upset my stable life to get married to a woman" reason.

by Anonymousreply 22September 1, 2021 1:20 PM

Thanks to this thread, I have just realized that Kaa in The Jungle Book was not voiced by *Stanley* Holloway...

by Anonymousreply 23September 1, 2021 1:45 PM

[quote]R17 Watch anything he was in.

I love “Peter & the Wolf” and “Alice in Wonderland” + “Winnie the Pooh” mentioned by R5, I don’t understand the hate and still haven’t read an actual reason for it.

by Anonymousreply 24September 1, 2021 3:12 PM

Interesting that folks who LOVE him only love his voice overs where they don't have to look at his bizarre face and mannerisms.

by Anonymousreply 25September 1, 2021 5:14 PM

He would've been perfect as Jed Clampett except he was awful whilst Buddy Ebsen wasn't.

by Anonymousreply 26October 7, 2021 3:09 AM

still awful

by Anonymousreply 27January 16, 2022 6:59 AM

I don't know him!

by Anonymousreply 28January 16, 2022 7:44 AM

Voicing all those animated films isn't a bad legacy. But what strikes me is the resemblance to Harpo Marx, who never uttered a word on screen.

by Anonymousreply 29January 16, 2022 8:01 AM

He's fine doing voice work, hard to watch when onscreen. Weird affect and mannerisms.
