No other words for him.
I loved Sterling Holloway.

Yeah, and dat HAIR!

He seemed very gay in a 1951 appearance on The Fred Waring Show.

He was always awful and ruined everything he was in. He even fucked up an old episode of Superman with George Reeves.
I avoid him as much as possible.

OP: You hate Winnie the Pooh?!?!?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 31, 2021 4:33 PM |
Yes.

His Bird Man of Alcatraz on that Gilligan's Island episode is a classic.

Great line in a Joan Blondell film called Blondie Johnson. She asks him if he's honest and he replies, "On occasion, and usually by accident." Funny cameo as a hat delivery boy in "Gold Diggers of 1933".

Oh so THAT's the inspiration for Martin Short
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 31, 2021 4:50 PM |
I routinely put his name on any "actors you can't stand" threads that we have.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 31, 2021 4:51 PM |
Peter & the Wolf wouldn’t be the same without Sterling Holloway
…and hello, as R5 said, Winnie the Pooh???
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 31, 2021 5:25 PM |
Did he get along with Crawford in "Johnny Guitar"?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 31, 2021 5:47 PM |
You gays only like the WtP episode where is ass is sticking out and he's defenseless. Sickos
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 31, 2021 6:50 PM |
Dear God, does DataLounge now have a Sterling Holloway troll?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 31, 2021 7:05 PM |
The only reason to watch WtP was for ME
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 31, 2021 10:28 PM |
You still haven't told us what's awful about him, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 31, 2021 10:41 PM |
He was a "confirmed bachelor" and he died of a "generic heart attack."
That means AIDS.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 1, 2021 1:56 PM |
r17 Watch anything he was in.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 1, 2021 1:56 PM |
Agreed. Sterling Hayden, on the other hand, had a much more agreeable screen presence.

R8, speaking of Joan Blondell, Sterling Holloway appeared with her and William Demarest in an episode of classic 'Twilight Zone' called 'What's In The Box' (Season Five, Episode 24).
This episode was the first time I'd ever seen what he looked like. Gay as hell, IMO.

He had a younger lover who he adopted and who inherited his estate.
The usual "didn't want to upset my stable life to get married to a woman" reason.

Thanks to this thread, I have just realized that Kaa in The Jungle Book was not voiced by *Stanley* Holloway...

[quote]R17 Watch anything he was in.
I love “Peter & the Wolf” and “Alice in Wonderland” + “Winnie the Pooh” mentioned by R5, I don’t understand the hate and still haven’t read an actual reason for it.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 1, 2021 4:12 PM |
Interesting that folks who LOVE him only love his voice overs where they don't have to look at his bizarre face and mannerisms.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 1, 2021 6:14 PM |
He would've been perfect as Jed Clampett except he was awful whilst Buddy Ebsen wasn't.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 7, 2021 4:09 AM |
still awful
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 16, 2022 7:59 AM |
I don't know him!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 16, 2022 8:44 AM |
Voicing all those animated films isn't a bad legacy. But what strikes me is the resemblance to Harpo Marx, who never uttered a word on screen.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 16, 2022 9:01 AM |
He's fine doing voice work, hard to watch when onscreen. Weird affect and mannerisms.
