His more notorious pool parties were from a different time, which almost sounds silly, but seeing as it was 20 years ago, not far off. Pre-#MeToo, pre-social media. I don't know if I see that happening now where everybody is so confessional on social media, everything is recorded, and there is just more attention/awareness of sexual improprieties in general.

r45 Singer has lots of people like that. They're not as much friends as hangers on who can bring a few cute guys for dinner. More the merrier type of thing. You can still find lots of photos of Singer eating dinner with 10 twinks around a table. He'd probably be friends with anyone who could reliably deliver a bunch of hot young guys to dinner.

These young men might be homeless in terms of having moved to LA and are crashing on friends couches...Then they're approached on grindr or other gay apps and invited to hang out. They come over to a cool pad with a bunch of bedrooms and soon they find themselves crashing there, meeting celebrities who come to the apartment, going to dinners with famous directors like Singer. I would suggest they're being victimized but its not illegal. Its not like someone would come to the apartment with the specific offer to fuck an 18 year old. And when you see 10 twinks at a dinner party table with Singer, they're not all fucking him.

The only crime being committed is furnishing alcohol to someone under 21. No DA in a major city would look to prosecute a successful gay man (who can afford an army of top attorneys) for that. It's still a taboo subject, but i don't think there's much of a difference. James Franco, Stephen Collins or Jared Leto aren't in jail and they're all creeps.

Girls and young women are absolutely exploited and abused in the entertainment and modeling industry. Yes, people are bit more sympathetic to female victims of rape than male victims. But there's still huge stigmas and tons of slut-shaming and being seen as "damaged" which can destroy a career before it starts. So both young men and women rather would remain silent on sexual abuse than speak up and have to live with that reputation of being a victim. Sometimes, rape victims would rather walk away from it and leave it a distant memory. But that said, I would say most people in the industry aren't sex fiends and are just working a typical 9-to-5 jobs. There are predators at the top in every industry.

I don't condone child abuse or the exploration of minors but am I the only one on DL who sought out the company of older men when I was too young to get into a bar? I totally knew what I was doing and what I was after. I sincerely doubt that the majority of these twinks are/were "wide eyed innocents" unaware of both the risks and the rewards of attending dinners and parties hosted by much older guys. Before I was 18 I knew I might have to put out for a nice meal and maybe a night in a "fancy" hotel. (At the time, anyplace with clean towels and unlimited hot water.) Having older guys paying attention to me, buying me drinks and telling me I was attractive was a huge boost to my fragile young ego. I grew up in a different era but I don't think my mindset at the time was much different than the young men who hang around BS and his type.
