The Newsreader

Any Aussies watching this? A rare Australian production, this is really well made.

The 1980s costumes are really good, as well as the lighting and tone. Acting is top-notch.

[quote] The Newsreader … 1980s

We don't need "news-readers" any more. We can all read our own news from the great variety of sources available to us now,

Revisionist, fake and unwatchable unless you're into fake 'girl-power'.

Where are you watching it?

by Anonymousreply 3September 11, 2021 11:39 PM

R2 obviously didn't watch. Not a 'girl-power' show at all, it's more like Broadcast News with big news stories from the 80's such as Lindy Chamberlin (dingo ate her baby), The Challenger explosion and Chernobyl. Anna Torv and Sam Reid are both fantastic in this. It just started airing on The Roku Channel and I can't recommend it enough. I'm now looking forward to seeing Sam Reid in Interview With A Vampire.

The gay character needs to get naked. The show itself, is very dry and self important, and plays twenty years out of date.

Season 2 just started in Australia. Unfortunately, it's premiering right at the same time that Roku pulled the first season from their platform in the US. Hopefully it finds a new home, though, as I absolutely loved the first season and season 2 seems very promising. And Sam Reid ain't bad to look at either.
