I began selling antiques and vintage items in an antique collective after I retired. I've always collected and now I have an excuse to buy whatever I like. I'm in a high end shop in an expensive travel destination and we meet people all over the world. We each work as a cashier two days a month, the owners work more and a few people get paid for extra days worked.

There are 30-40 somethings selling in the store, very artistic and clever. More than a few vendors are gay and we have gay customers, too. It's a wonderful environment, creative and friendly.

The vendors are some of the nicest, most interesting people I've met, many are also artists or crafty and able to repair and enhance their items. They can be quirky but then I like quirky. It's really exciting to find items I know our customers will love. Many of our customers are young, too, and already have vintage collections going.

Part of what I like is the history behind the items, I like to research the items and often find what I buy is worth a lot more than what I paid. Customers are willing to pay for rare and unique items and it's fun to hunt for them. I keep some of what I buy for the shop, too, and my house is beginning to look pretty good as I replace ordinary things with antiques and vintage items.

Adam Calvert-Bentley's former patron was a connoisseur of pretty young men.

Adam isn't gorgeous. Just pleasant looking. He sells pleasant looking items in his online shop. Much of it looks like "treasures" indeed, that he finds in downmarket locations. He has a good eye.

So you've had a taste R23? Reminds me of the time one of our more pompous antique dealers came into the store gushing about his recent customer who had the taste of an 18th century scholar, and I said I'd never tasted one of those.

I went into an antique store last week and the elderly male cashier said to a customer, "Did you find a treasure?" I immediately thought of this thread.

last week I was in the French Riviera , feeling vaguely horny and I walked into an antique shop. There was a nice eldergay with big calves in there. he was welcoming and quite sexy. As I was walking out, he said " so did you have a coup de coeur for my nice trinkets ?" without missing a beat I replied, "yeah, I had a coup de coeur for your big calves, I love big calves". His jaw dropped. His eyes skimmed my bubble butt, liquid with thirst , but the dumb fool didn't say anything, and I walked out.

I detest antiques and antique dealers even more
